Tecra A11 - No Video via mini DisplayPort

Hi There,
I've recently aquired a Tecra A11 through my company that has two external video ports: VGA and mini DisplayPort.
With my previous laptop I ran two External displays while the laptop was closed and I would like to achieve this with my new Tecra A11. In attempts to achieve the same setup I have purchased a mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable from MonoPrice.com.
Unforunately when trying to use the mini DisplayPort->HDMI cable with the HP monitor I cannot manage to aquire a signal or get anything to display. This happens both when trying to run dual monitors miniDP/VGA and when I only try to run a single external display with the mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable.
I have downloaded the latest Video Drivers for the Tecra A11 but it still cannot see the External Monitor through the mini DisplayPort. Is there something special I have to enable in order for the mini DisplayPort to pump out a signal? or am I missing something here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I greatly miss my large monitors.
Regards,
Lando

Hello Lando,
I have exactly the same problem with an S11-160 Tecra laptop. Did you find any solution ??
Thanks

  • Tecra A11 - No Video via mini DisplayPort

    Hi There,
I just recently purchased a mini DisplayPort -> HDMI cable to be used with my Tecra A11 Notebook. My intention was to run two external displays by running a VGA cable to my LG W2242 Monitor and run the mini-DP to HDMI cable to my HP 2509m Monitor. Unfortunately I cannot get my HP monitor to recognize the Video Signal from the mini DIsplayPort.
I have downloaded the newest drivers for my laptop, but still no luck. Is there anything special I need to do to get the mini DisplayPort to send a Video Signal?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Landon

The Tecra A11 I have purchased (the A11-00N) only has two external video ports; A mini DisplayPort and a VGA.
I am currently running the Tecra A11 hooked up via the VGA Port to my HP 2509m Monitor. When unplugging the VGA cable and attempting to use just the mini DisplayPort to attach a SINGLE external Monitor I still have trouble getting a signal.
@Andrej - I'm currently attempting to attach 2 external monitors while closing the lid of the built-in display. In any case this should work as the laptop would still be only running 2 displays total.
What troubles me is that the mini DisplayPort doesn't work in a single display setup. I am going to attempt using the cable with a MacBook Pro later today and hopefully it will help in pointing to the root of the problem.

  • Re: Tecra A11-10D video memory

    Hello all,
I have a Tecra A11-10D and in windows it show's that my graphics card is using 1200MB of RAM as shared video memory. I do not need so much memory for my graphics card, i think 256MB will suffice tacking in account that the onboard card has 64MB of dedicated video memory.
Now on all the computers i know that in bios there is an option to assign RAM to the video card but in the BIOS of my computer I see no such option. I think / hope that an updated bios will give me this option. On the download drivers section I see a new BIOS but I don't want to flash it until i see the BIOS update specifications.
Can any one point me to such a document?
Did anyone have this issue and solved it?
    Thanx,
    Dan.

    Hello
As users already wrote the video memory usage is controlled automatically and you cannot change anything. I really don't understand why do you think new BIOS will have some additional options.
I am 100% sure with new BIOS you will not have any new options so if the system is running well dont change anything. BIOS update will be offered mostly to fix some unexpected issues or offer better support for notebooks hardware. It has nothing to do with additional options.
Maybe you are right about video RAM. I also think that every of us should be able to make decision how many memory will be used for video operations but obviously Intel engineers have different opinion about it.

  • Tecra A11 - Video/Latest BIOS issues

    Hello All,
I just received a Toshiba Tecra A11 the other day which is out of warranty (Refurb). When I got the laptop there was an issue where the picture was displayed at 1024x768 and off centre (In BIOS). The image was 1-2cm off screen to the left, with about 5-6cm black space to the right of the picture, the bottom 2-3 cm's of the picture were also off the bottom of the screen.
I installed Ubuntu Studio initially and attempted to force the display to a widescreen resolution. I didn't have any luck, I also installed Win7 but still with the latest drivers I had no luck.
This was strange because BIOS was displayed the same way so naturally I decided to upgrade to the latest BIOS version. The BIOS on the laptop was quite old (End of 2009).
I downloaded the BIOS update from Toshiba's web site, and ran the update.
The new BIOS was installed and the machine rebooted.
However there was no picture displayed on the LCD panel, windows did successfully boot, if I connect an external monitor to the laptop I get picture. When starting the laptop the LCD backlight does light up.
My question is: What can I do to resolve this issue? Is there a BIOS recovery or downgrade tool available? Is it possible to reflash the bios? What is recommended?
    Thanks.

    > The new BIOS was installed and the machine rebooted.
    > However there was no picture displayed on the LCD panel, windows did successfully boot, if I connect an external monitor to the laptop I get picture. When starting the laptop the LCD backlight does light up.
Does this mean that everything is ok using external monitor?
Can you access the BIOS pressing F2 and can you set it to default settings?
Usually you can switch between external and internal display using the key combination FN + F5. Does it work?

  • Tecra A11-11N does not boot after CPU upgrade

    Hi,
I would like to do a processor upgrade for my Tecra A11 11N from the i5-430M to a probably much faster i5.I thought the i5-580M would do, but the laptop did not boot when i installed this processor.
I reverted back to the 430M, did some research on the internet and found out that the 580M has a very high FSB speed and that is what probably made it not to work/incompatible with my machine.
    http://ark.intel.com/products/43537/
    http://ark.intel.com/products/49653
    http://ark.intel.com/products/49652
    and also at http://ark.intel.com/
Now i went back to the computer shop, returned the 580M and got an i5-560M as i compared it's specs and saw it would be compatible as it has the same FSB speed with the 430M.
I then later on in the day tried to install this cpu as an upgrade BUT alas!
    It STILL WON'T BOOT ALSO.
I was left dumfounded.Processors in the same familly line are supposed to be compatible with one another provided:Lithography, FSB and socket type are similar.
Or what am i missing here?
I have done processor upgrades in many instances for both desktops and laptops and this is the first one that has left me with no words to say!
    please offer some help/advice.

I solved this processor upgrade problem on my own.
I did some little research on what limits processor upgradability on computers and i
found out that BIOS was one of the factors that play a key part.
    So,i went on a mission
to see if i could upgrade my BIOS and whether it would solve my problem.
I found this link to be very informative:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=66624
I then downloaded the latest BIOS version for my laptop from this link:
    http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_bios.jsp
The following link gave me proof that the BIOS update would not bring any problems to my
machine and that there is already someone who had done it and not encountered any problems.
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=62459
Just to make sure that you are on the safe side, before carrying out the procedure to update
your BIOS,make sure you have a fully charged battery in addition to the AC plugged in.A power
outtage during this procedure would instantly kill your machine.
The BIOS installation took less than 3 mins.I copied the executable on the desktop and run it
    from there.
On rebooting, the new BIOS was installed. The new BIOS version was 3.40 dated on 05/18/2012 while
the older one was version 2.0 dated on 04/03/2010.
    From Intel's website,the i5-430M was released on Q1 2010 while the i5-560M and i5-580M were
    released on Q3 2010.
It is pretty obvious that by the time BIOS version 2.0 was release, these two newer processors
had not been released and that explains why they were not being recognized when i installed them.
I finally swapped the 430M with the 560M,assembled back the machine and powered it.
Voil!,the machine booted to it's new life.Everything is as was before!
So far i have not seen any problems even to do with overheating or the cooling fan spinning any
faster that before. It is all the same as before. There is considerable performance gain with the
uprade.I am a software developer and my various development enviroments including compilers,
debuggers, database and deployment servers have all been running way way faster than they were!
I believe the 580M can also work but unfortunately i had returned it back to the shop.
There is no reason for buying new machines when we can upgrade the ones we have. What will
happen to the older ones? This means more electronic waste and so does new machines.Let us try
to make better use of the ones we have a in turn,SAVE OUR ONLY PLANET EARTH FROM GLOBAL WARMING!

  • HDTV won't  display as mirror or extra display via mini-dvi to HDMI

    Hi
I have a MacBook running 10.5.7 connected to a 1080P-capable Toshishba TV (model 42XV555). I also tried this with 10.5.6 with same results.
They are connected via a "shuttlez" mini-dvi to hdmi dongle and then via a "wegi" hdmi to hmdi cable.
The TV has three HDMI inputs, one designated for computer input via HDMI with a separate input for analogue sound.
THE MB recognizes the TV and displays a separate Toshiba-specific control panel with display control panel is up. It defaults to 1600x90 and 60Hz. The Macbook adjusts every time the tv is connected - there is communication - flashing screen, MB screen re-adjusts.
S-video works fine, via mini-dvi to s-video donglr, then svideo cable.
It has worked twice with the MB and connected with HDMI - just twice. I have spent hour after hour tweaking resolutions, re-booting, changing cables, HDMI ports on the TV etc! When it worked I could mirror and use the screen as a separate, larger display. It worked in clam-shell mode too.
My question is - are there any know problems getting this combination to work (ie MB, mini-dvi to HDMI)? It can work but I am missing some knowledge on the exact combination required.
What are the optimum settings to have this TV display HD from the MB, or come to that any HD 1080p-capable TV??

I'm attempting to connect my MB to a plasma 50 inch Panasonic TV, and am about to purchase the necessary cables from www.monoprice.com.
I've discovered so far that the HDMI connection directly between the MB and the TV (using the appropriate mini DVI adapter of course - product # 4852 at monochrome.com and an Apple HDMI cable which I'll return to get a better price at monochrome) transmits only video/pictures but not audio.
So far, an old, short RCA (red/white) 2-way audio test cable (again using the appropriate adapter to connect to the headphone jack on the MB) does not transmit audio directly to the TV.
    1) Could audio be transmitted from the MB to the TV using a "Coax (RCA) to Optical Toslink Digital Audio Converter" (product ID # 2947 at www.monochrome.com) to connect directly to the TV (in which case, what digital audio cable would I need to connect the converter to the TV)? And if so, would it be stereo or mono?
    OR...
    2) Should I wait until I get my Onkyo surround sound system (later this week) to see if the RCA cable will transmit directly from the MB to the sound system?
    Thanks.

  • Toshiba tecra a11-17c refusing to boot from LAN

    Hello
I am working on a Toshiba tecra a11-17c. We currently have about 18 of the same laptop and the person who originally built the computers has left the office we are currently working at.
The issue I am have is that I  want to boot the computer from lan and do a windows 7 installation on the laptop but I keep getting the error "Media test failure, check cable"
I know the cable is working because I was able to build a Toshiba satellite pro l20 perfectly fine
The other Toshiba tecra a11-17c laptops have the same issue when trying to rebuild them too
I am fully able to log into a Toshiba tecra a11-17c and connect to the internet via the same network cable and port when in windows.
I have also tried to swap the hard drive with a different tecra a11-17c but it just kept getting a blue screen as soon as the windows flag appeared.
I then tried a format of the hard drive and a reset to default of the bios settings as suggested in a different forum.
I then tried to clone a fully working hard drive from a different fully working tecra a11-17c and it just dose the blue screen as stated above.
I then used an old windows XP recovery disk for the tecra a11-17c it did the build fine no issues then when it came to build to windows but as stated above it just dose a blue screen the same as windows 7.
Now I have no idea what to do but to believe it is something Toshiba has done with the tecra a11-17c range because its the same issue for all 18 of the tecra a11-17c laptops I have here.
Any way I am at a loss and have no idea what to do it seems to be something as simple as the network card need to be turned on during the boot phase but I can not find anything in the bios.

I'm sorry but I have no experience doing what your attempting to do.  However, for your information, this site is for U.S. models only and I would suggest you also post in the appropriate regional Toshiba Support forum to get better suggestions.  Good luck

  • IMac 27" (Late 2009): getting audio to HDMI receiver via mini DisplayPort

I just got my first iMac 27" and I'm in the process of integrating it into my home theater system. Here is my setup:
iMac 27" connected to HDMI receiver (Yamaha RX-V1800) via mini DosplayPort, using miniDP-to-HDMI adapter + HDMI cable
Optoma HD20 video projector connected to HDMI receiver (HDMI out) via HDMI cable
I have Windows 7 installed via Bootcamp 3.2, so that I can take advantage of Windows Media Center. With the above setup, I am not getting audio or video signal to my receiver and video projector when I'm using Windows 7. However, when I am in OS X environment, I can get both video and audio signal to my receiver and video projector, and either mirror or extend my video diplay. When I do plug in my iMac straight into my video projector or LCD monitor with built-in speakers while in Windows 7, I get both audio and video output. So why doesn't it work -- and only under Windows 7 -- when the signal goes through the receiver?
My immediate thought was that it must be something about the receiver, but since the setup creates no problem under OS X I don't think it is. Could it perhaps be the Windows driver for mini DisplayPort, because it looks like iMac is not 'recognizing' my receiver and therefore not establishing connection? Is there a driver of fix available that takes care of this problem?
    Thanks!

I've tried a few times and it hasn't worked so far...
23" Cinema Display (ADC) connected to Apple's ADC to DVI adapter/power box then connected to Apple's DVI to mini Display Port adapter.
Trying to output extended desktop from iMac to 23" Cinema Display.
No signal or anything on the 2nd monitor so far.
USB port on Cinema Display works with the setup.
Checked system updates and all up to date as of 01-10-2010.
    OS X 10.6.2 build 10C2234

  • Getting no sound from TV after connecting Macair via mini DP to HDMI port....pls help

I've tried connecting my 2011 Macair to my LED tv via mini DP to HDMI port. The video works fine but there is no sound. I tried opening network preferences and went to the sound section but it does not show my TV to be selected as an output option. Please help!!!!!!

Did you try on another device, like a computer monitor? To verify the problem is not with the adapter or cable.
Off course you switched on the external screen using WinKey+P?

  • Tecra A11 - Bios Update offered - necessary?

Hi - I've just been offered a BIOS Update for my Tecra A11-17N (Via Toshiba Service Station) - BIOS Update v3.10....
Clicking on the update doesn't offer any details as to what it contains/fixes/improves - it just says basically "install, and computer will re-boot a few times".
My Tecra is running perfectly - no issues at all. Should I ignore this?

    Hello
    > My Tecra is running perfectly - no issues at all. Should I ignore this?
Youre right. In this case you can ignore this update because everything works perfectly.
BIOS update is always a little bit risky so it shouldnt be done just for fun. It should only be done if its really necessary and in your case you dont need it.
So have fun with your Tecra A11 and you can forget the update :)

  • [SOLVED] - Package xf86-video-via is missing from repositories!

    Hi,
I have a VIA card as follows:
VGA Compatible Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. S3 Unichrome Pro VGA Adapter (rev 01)
My X doesn't work except in VESA mode. But in Vesa mode, when I play videos in mplayer, I can't fullscreen them.
When I checked the sample xorg.conf files mentioned in the Xorg wiki, I find that I am advised to use the xf86-video-via package.
But the package xf86-video-via is missing from repositories!
pacman -Ss xf86-video-via doesn't give results!
    Please help.
    Thanks.

  • Tecra A11-17V can't connect to WLan

I have a Tecra A11-17V 15.6 inches and the problemis that i cant get WLan conection at home.
With all other devices I come in my WLAN and the Tecra also in others, but not in mine.
It is a WPA2-PSK with AES and 128-bit encryption.
    What can be causing this?
    Best regards

Is it not possible with this settings?
Obviously your WLan router encryption settings are not supported by the WLan card and therefore you have to change the encryption!
As suggested by Jeffrey; try another settings.
    For example:
    Network Authentication: WPA2-PSK
    WPA Encryption: TKIP
    Encryption Strength: 64-bit

  • TECRA A11 - low sound quality earphone to AUX

Tecra A11 provides *low sound quality* (iTunes) connecting with my hifi system *via earphone out to AUX* in. An Apple MacBook connected in the same way does much better. Any idea how could enhance the quality? Thanks in advance!

Hmmmmm...... have you tried to change sound settings, player equaliser?
Open control panel and check if there is Realtek sound manager (Realtek soundcard) and play a little bit with sound effects settings.

2009 24-inch iMac 3.06GHz (EMC no. 2267).   I don't get any audio when connecting my Sony HD TV to my iMac via mini DisplayPort. Is there a fix or hardware upgrade?  I'm using a Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable w/ audio support.

You can connect the audio from your iMac to your TV using a mini jack (like headphones plug) to rca (regular red and white audio connectors used on every TV,DVD, etc) cable.
On your TV, you need to be able to set the audio for the HDMI input you will use to "analog" and connect the rca end of the cable to the analog inputs on your TV.

  • MacBook to TV via mini-DVI to HDMI?

I bought these items to connect my macbook to my Sharp Aquos 52" LC52D85U 120Hz 1080p LCD HDTV:
    644 3.5mm Stereo Plug/Plug M/M Cable - 6ft,
    4029 High Speed HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified Cable 28AWG - 10ft w/Ferrite Cores (Gold Plated Connectors) - WHITE
    4852 Mini-DVI to HDMI Adapter
I have it plugged into input 6, but it doesn't appear to be working. Do I need to adjust the settings? have some type of software? what am I missing here?
    thanks!
update: my background screen from the computer is now on the TV, but not the movie that I am playing.

I just hooked my macbook up to my sony xbr6 tv via mini-dv to hdmi. I had to go into system preferences, then displays. A sony display window appeared, then I went to arrangements, and clicked on mirror displays, and it appeared....I'm still trying to figure out how to get the sound through my tv...I thought I might get sound thru the hdmi cable, but I think I might have to use an rca cable...
