Tecra A2 - Question about different batteries

Got a problem with getting a new battery for a Tecra A2 PTA20A-20R002. The battery that came out of the laptop is a PA3356U-2BAS. On Toshiba's product sheet is says the battery is a PA3356U-1BAS or PA3357U-1BAL (high capacity).
Is the PA3356U-1BAS the same as the PA3356U-2BAS and the PA3356U-3BAS (for that matter)?
Also can I can use the PA3357U-3BAL instead of the PA3357U-1BAL?
I'm finding it difficult to source the battery numbers listed on the Toshiba datasheet in Australia (only seem to find compatibiles). The PA3357U-3BAL seems to be quite easy to find.

I agree with Akuma. I have also two batteries for my Toshiba notebook and both fit perfectly in the notebook.
I think the difference is maybe only the capacity or manufacture but it shouldnt be a problem to use both batteries.
And if the PS3357 batterie is listed for Tecra A2 on the Toshiba website it should fit too.

Please see this question, I'm somewhat confused about the different
wim files.
I can see the default winpe.wim and a different wim next to it which has name winpe then environment then number (winpe.sccm0022.wim), what is this file.
And, like in my post, why can't I use this image to import into a pxe and boot from that?

What is your goal with this? boot to SCCM and do OS deployment or what is your purpose? when dowloading the boot .wim file from a DP parameters are passed along like MP and so on. So you cannot use that .WIM file and pxe-boot from another PXE solution and
do OSD from ConfigMgr.
That is why Johan's unsupported solution would be the way to try it.

Tecra 8200: Question about screen 14.1 replacement

Hi, my screen only shows the left hand side, a line goes down the middle and the right hand side is blank. If I hold the screen outer tightly on the top left hand side, the whole screen lights up as normal. I have attached a remote screen and this works fine. I have been told this is a screen fault.
The screen part No is LTM14C438, they are very expensive. I can get a different screen number (LTM14C433), which is a 20 pin toshiba from a TE2000, and I am told it will work.

Thanks for reply. I saw a screen on Ebay and asked the question, the reply was that he did not know for sure, however if it was a 20 pin connection and the conection was in the same place, he was sure it would work. I was just trying to confirm. I rang Toshiba, they gave me 3 compatibale Part No's. They then informed me a new screen would be about 284. I am persisting with a remote screen until I find out one way or another. Thanks again. Allan

Question about different query results with wildcard

Hi, I'm working with a third party app on SQL Server 2000, and from what I can gather, programmed in C# & VisualFoxPro.
When we search with
    Note contains 94949
we get 571 results, when we search with
    Note contains 94949*
we get 575 results.
There should be at least a hundred different entries that start with "94949-1" so I expected the query with the wildcard to return something like 680 results, not an additional four rows.
Searching with
    Note contains 94949-1*
got 483 results
    Note contains 94949-10*
got 0 results
Could someone explain or point me to more documentation on the difference results we get?

My situation is more basic than what appears in your example. Unfortunately, I am working solely through this application so I do not have access to the SQL to test out what you supplied, so my question is more of a need for an explanation of the search results. I do find lots of references to LIKE, Wildcards and pattern matching, but I don't find a way to explain to the users the best and most complete way to search. They mostly need a "this will always get us the results without missing anything" search technique and then to be able to select from a smaller group. I guess I need a basic course in understanding search results: how to get different ones and what they mean.

returned one more result than when using an asterisk. I don't understand this difference.

brings nothing nor does not using quotes. But there are hundreds of records which have the string starting with 94949-1 and a varying number of characters after that.
?Does the dash read not as a character in the string but as an expression?
When I use WITHIN 3 characters, I get too few results (eight). If I use AND, I get text unrelated to the account number I am looking for.
Again when I tried to narrow the search by adding one digit to the string to be matched, I did not get any results, but 500 results from the more general search is too much to scan by opening individual records.

Accessorie NYKO Charge Base Xbox 360 question about the batteries

I am sorry, I couldn't find the right forum for game accessories. I recently bought nyko Charge Base for the xbox 360 from best buy, when I got home I open the package then charged the nyko battery using nyko Charge Base, because the battery showed 3 bars that is why I was charging it. While the charger showed a green light, I went ahead and clicked the guide button that showed 4 bars.. I was playing one of my games, I notice that their was only 3 bars left while it was fully charged this is the same day I charged the battery then used it while on the guide button showed a circle ring from acting like their was 2 bars left. From sunday morning the 13th I had 3 bars left, the afternoon I only had 2 bars left from using the microsoft xbox 360 controller. For some reason the batterie act as it was dead shut off 3 times like a hour or so, while the green circle from the guide button was active.. Sunday night using the same controller same batterie showed 1 bar left . On monday morning the 14th using the same controller same batterie, I just left the controller on just to see what would happen, while the controller turn off I did press the guide button again just to see if the controller would turn on um it was out of juice. So I was charging the battery again, clicked the guide button, saw 3 bars on the screen, I clicked the guide button once again then showed 4 bars then 2 after.. I understand this wasn't a question, but it hasn't been 24 hours.. Mostly everyday I have seen the green circle while it showed up 3 bars. Did anyone had a similar problem like I had? While the battery was fully charge from monday at 3pm, I started to use it around 4pm and kept on playing a game till I stopped at 4 in the morning tuesday. Now it shows 3 bars while a green circle. From this nyko charger I had to charge the batterie almost every two days. What I don't get or understand, while I had a microsoft battery with kit and charge, I sometimes would charge the battery, meaning I don't have to use a charge for 2 or maybe 3 weeks. I would have 4 bars for 3 days at least then 3 bars for another 3 days but while it was 3 bars, it never once showed the green circle also never once shut off my controller to. Tecra A2: Question about DVI and external monitor

Hello,
I'm trying to get a DVI Signal from the Tecra A2 using the advanced Port Replicator III but without luck. Does the A2 support DVI anyway?
Another question: Is it possible to set the primary display to the external Monitor when using "extended Desktop"?

Hello Ralph
Your unit doesnt support DVI port and you can not use it. As far as I know just ports that you can find on the unit you can use in Port Replicator because the signal is just loop through.
The problem with primary display is that notebook is set to primary one and it can not be changed (on my Tecra M1 neither). The Windows will starts on external one but box for password will always appears on notebook display.

Questions about different issues on a Satellite A30

Ok, to start, I don't know much about computers let alone laptops but my husband is "usually" good with them but right now we are having major problems.
I have a Satellite A30 (not sure if it's a pro as it doesn't mention it in the manual and Stephen is about to have a heart attack right now and isn't on the laptop so can't check the BIOS).
Anyway. Problems started quite some time ago, in fact not long after the warranty ran out. I bought it second hand and I loved it when I got it.
Ok
Problem 1. - Overheating, we finally solved that by hoovering it out every now and then, problem solved.
Problem 2. - USB 2.0. Some things work some don't. My Nikon camera won't work via USB but my Lumix does. My mobile struggles. Just bought a card reader, worked on Stephen's laptop but not the A30. Bluetooth dongle doesn't work. All these items used to work.
Problem 3. - I can set my processor speed to either 1.6GHz or 3.06GHz. Overheats really easily on 3.06 and tends to slow down and seems to be faster on 1.6GHz and doesn't overheat on 1.6 so end up keeping it on that. Pain though. Even with extra under laptop fan cooler base.
Problem 4. - Not that I'm an expert but I think my power supply is gone. I always have my laptop plugged in about 90% of the time. I can put the laptop on and it will use the AC Adaptor for a while then goes on to Battery Power. If the AC Adaptor was in that was what it used, not the battery. Then when the battery gets to the end of it's power it just goes and I have to wait until it charges again before I can turn it back on. I find that really annoying.
Problem 5. - As from 2 days ago it has went totally and utterly kaput. Won't even log on. It goes as far as Windows XP booting up then an error message saying something about a missing .DLL file. Stephen said he sorted that but hasn't resolved the problem. We decided it was a hard drive problem so bought an external case for it and Stephen after 2 whole days managed to upload everything from the HDD to his laptop. It was a 40gig HDD. Some of the files were warped and had to be deleted so thought that was the problem so went out to buy a new one but went for a 120gig. Stephen formatted that on his laptop then went to transfer it to my A30 but same problems. Now I am wondering if 120Gig is too much. At the mo Stephen is taking out his HDD to put in mine and vice versa. His laptop is recognising it as a 120GHz but according to him my BIOS is not very clear and doesn't tell you anything. As I said I know nothing about computers. I'm really clutching at straws here. Stephen has been brought up on computers but is more used to desktops and we decided to sell our laptops and buy a high spec up to date desktop but I doubt I'd get much money now for my A30 if it doesn't work.
Any ideas would be sooooo helpful to get it rolling again.
Sorry for this thread to be so long but although Stephen won't admit to it, he really needs help and I can try and give any info you need to help us out.
BTW I read in my manual that it can take up to 80Gig HDD but larger ones in the future so we thought it would be fine with 120 by now since they are available if that is any help to you.

do you have still warranty on that machine? If yes then bring it TOMORROW to an authorized service partner.
Why? The problem is that this machine has an Pentium 4 which really gets hot and if the cooling system is clobbed with dust, then the cooling paste which transfers the heat between cpu and cooling module gets dry and cannot transfer the heat accurately to the copper cooling module.
I would suggest you to go to an technician and advise him to exchange the cooling paste, it will really raise your system stability.

The other thing with USB is: sometimes there is no enough power in the system and I assume that the problem lies on the AC-adapter. Purchase an new AC-adapter and you probably wont have problems with stability, USB and some other things anymore. I cannot tell it for sure, but I solved a problem with a Satellite 2430 which I had and which is quite the same model like yours, it has just some other colors but the model is the same.
I had that heat problem and I solved it by exchanging the cooling paste, but then the machine was not in warranty anymore and I am a little bit familiar with computers.
I had problems with my AC too, but my error was another because it mades some noise and after a while it stops working. At this time the system did not worked properly and after exchanging the AC everything was fine again.
Regarding the HDD: I cannot tell you something about since I am using just a 60GB drive. You will probably find it our on your own or a experienced user here in the forum could maybe help you.

Tecra 750: Question about Infrared and TV remote control

I am wondering if anyone can help. I have an old Tecra 750 which I am using as an audio system to play my MP3 collection. It has an Infrared detector on it and I was wondering if it is possible to use this to receive IR from a TV remote control so I can use a remote to navigate my audio files. Does anyone know how to do this or where I could find out how? Is there any freeware to help perhaps? Is it even possible?

The computer uses IRDA infra red and this is not compatible with the type of infra red used by normal remotes.
You could get an external infra red remote control which will plug into the USB port.

Satellite 2410: Question about different ways to use BlueTooth

Hi,
I'm having trouble finding somewhere to purchase a bluetooth module for my Toshiba Satellite 2410 - the handbook says I can, and I know there is space on the underside of the laptop to insert it.
I just can't seem to find one to buy - does anybody know if they actually exist, as I am beginning to think not??!...or is the cheapest way to bluetooth enable the laptop to buy a USB adaptor?
If so, will a cheap one affect the download rate when using the Internet?? And what is the difference between an SD card and a USB bluetooth adaptor?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, with the detailed name I mean the full notebook number Satellite 2410-xxx.
However, you ask what a difference between Wireless Lan and Bluetooth.
The WLan is technology which allows you using or/and to create a LAN but without the cables.
;) The Wlan routers for example allow you to connect to the internet without the cable connection.
Bluetooth technology:
If device like (mobile phones, printer, etc) support BT technology and you notebook uses also a BT so it's possible to connect these devices without cables. The devices should be placed in the available range.
I would recommend searching a little bit in the internet for more information about Wlan and Bluetooth

Tecra 8000: Question about AC adaptor

In bad englisch sorry.
The power suply of my tecra 8000 isn't working it's not the wire but the reciever? in the notebook. I have a new notebook but there are some files inside the tecra and because I don't have power I can't reach it. Does anyone nows a solution that doesn't cost me a lot of money?

If a new charger doesn't fix this problem, another solution would be to use a Tecra 520 docking station if you can find one cheaply. This also supports the Tecra 8000 (but not Tecra 8100, 8200). This will power the laptop via connections on the underside of the unit and so avoid the broken DC socket.
Of course you wouldn't be able to use the laptop as a portable, but it would at least provide a solution to enable you to retrieve valuable data.
Another thought: If the data is important to you, you could remove the hard drive and insert it in to the caddy of another (working) Tecra 8000 laptop.

Tecra 8000: Question about the Windows XP performance

My Tecra 8000 is just within the Microsoft minimum specification for running Windows XP.
I am concerned that by installing XP the machine will perform badly with XP eating up resources.
I would welcom hearing from others who have experience of putting XP on this or similar spece'd laptop.
PC used for internet/email and general office use - no processor/memory hungry software used.

Hi Paul, i'd installed XP Professional for my user n so far so good. Her broadband is also working well too. when this laptop was using Win98, i had to install a driver every time i added some new hardware. Now with XP Pro there is no need, she even managed to install the new printer herself without help. The same goes with the memory stick etc.
i re-built the Tecra 8000 (192 MB RAM) from scratch (XP Pro only, bypassed Win98) so i dont know how well it'd cope with dual OSs. Bear in mind that it's not that "roomy". i just like it super "clean". btw, the installation was much simpler than Win98 (not much to add). One more thing, i don't know how well it'd cope if it had a virus checker on it (might slow down the machine considerably). I just installed Sygate Firewall version of 5.5.2577 (downloaded from http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=sygate ) without any virus checker. it's a good Firewall n she's a sensible user (i've warned her all the things not to do etc). u might like to install that firewall (n turn off any unnecessary XP services) too BEFORE u go online.

All .xls must be sent to departmentB(a)companyname.com.
I use Mail Package and keep attachment, without ASMA.
In Mapping I create UDF as below:

Question about different versions

I was just trying to clean up my computer a bit and saw that I have versions 1.4.2_04, _05 and _06. They are 107MB, 108MB and 108MB, respectively. Do I need all three of those or can I delete 4 and 5?

Each version is independent and does not interact with other versions.
If you don't want or use a version it can be deleted.
