Tecra A3X appears 'dead'

Hi
Just picked up a Tecra A3x sold as spares or repair.
Ok, pop some memory in,plug the adapter in and fire up.
I get all the lights across the front, I can hear the HDD whirr but no screen. An external monitor shows nothing too (FN+F5 does nothing). The DVD is working, it spins up a disk quite happily
At first look it seems it may be ok but................remove any memory and I get the same actions. lights on but no video output.
There are no beeps, The only keyboard light I get is if I press the FN button, then the light just below F11 will illuminate whilst FN is pressed
Is there a common failure on these Tecra models as there are on the SP6xxx models for example.?

Just to update this a little.
According to the Toshiba spec sheets. this laptop should have a Intel SL7SA chip fitted (M740 1.73Ghz) This is confirmed by the number on the underside of the unit.
However, the chip fitted is a Celeron 1.2 SL6F8.
So, that needs correcting of course.
But..............surely if the wrong CPU was fitted, the laptop would do nothing at all ?

  • Distribution appears dead!

Does anyone know what the error message "Distribution appears dead!" means?
I have several distributions applied to several servers. They are set to
refresh hourly. All of them worked perfectly at one time, but now each
distribution is returning this error message for some, but never the same
    servers.
    For example:
Distribution 1 (inventory policy) reports the error on servers a,b, and c.
Distribution 2 (file distribution) reports the error on servers d, e, and
    f.
Distribution 3 (file distribution) returns the error on servers g, h, and
    i.
I've checked the KB, but found no reference to this error message.
    Thank you for your assistance.

  • IPhone appears dead

My phone appears dead. There is no activity on the screen. Nothing happens when I hold down the power and home buttons. There is no response to being charged by my computer or outlet. I took the SIM card out and put it back in. Still no activity. Is there a way to get the phone working again? Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Connect it to the wall charger for 30 minutes. Remove, then hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons for at least 10 seconds. An Apple logo should appear and the phone should reboot.
If it doesn't the battery may be bad, the cable may be bad, the charger may be bad, or the phone may be bad. So eliminate the ones you can; try a different cable and different charger. If it's still dead take it to an Apple store (make an appointment first) or toss it and get an iPhone 4.

  • Tecra A3x: Is the IrDA Port available?

Hi can any one confirm whether or not the Tecra A3x (PTA3XE-01D00NEN) has an infra red port or not.
    Thanks Jason

    I can confirm this information.
No IrDA port on the Tecra A3X
If you want you can use a USB - IrDA adapter.

  • Tecra A3X-112 : Fn + F1... Touch pad stop working

    Hello everybody,
I have a Tecra A3X-112 on which Windows XP has been recently reinstalled.
I have installed Windows XP before with other different copies, but this is the first time I experienced some misadjustments.
My problem is that the Fn key combined with F1, F2... keys stopped working, as well as the Assist bottoms placed on the top of the keybord.
Besides, the Touch Pad works, but I cannot disable it.
I have been looking at the messages of some other users and it seems that it is a problem of downloading the proper drivers from Toshiba webpage.
My question is: which drivers for which keys?
    a. for *Fn + Function keys* should I intalled *Utilities* or *Hotkeys Utilities for Display Devices*? There are even some users who recommend to installed a BIOS update or a Common Module driver, but I am not sure about that. By installing the proper driver, are all the combinations of Fn + Function keys work, or just some of them?
    b. for *Touch Pad*, should I intalled only *Touch Pad On/Off Utility* or *Touch Pad Driver* is also necessary?
    c. for *Assist bottoms*?
    Send me some answers, please.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello
The FN keys functionality depends on few different factors. At first it is important to have installed Common modules. It is so called base for other Toshiba designed tools and utilities.
Just for example: for using FN+F2 (power saver options) you must install Common modules and Power saver tool.
So as first step I recommend you to install Common modules again.
When you are finished check FN functionality and post the result.
For FN+F9 you need to install TOSHIBA Touch Pad On/Off Utility. Before this it must be installed ALPS Pointing-device Driver.
You know, it is not easy to offer simply solution to this. All drivers, tools and utilities shuld be installed in right installations order. After doing this everything should work well.
One more thing, for assist buttons try with TOSHIBA Controls.

  • 2950 appears dead System Light Flashing stat light stays on

I think I have a dead switch. However, I figured I would see if anyones had a similar situation. When I power the device up the stat light comes on and stays on. Then the port lights flash once then the system light starts flashing. Once the system light starts fashing the switch appears to hang. It's not responding from the console port. The other switch is I have is a 2950 as well and it's responds via the terminal emulation settings I've set up. I think I know the answer, but I'm indulging in a little wishful thinking. Lastly I hold down the mode button for 15 to 30 sec and I dont get any change in status. Should I feed this switch to my garbage can?

If the console port does not respond, there is not a whole lot you could do. If you have a service contract, open a TAC service request and get it replaced.

  • Next step? iPod appears dead

Last night, while I was listening to the iPod (fifth generation 60GB), it stopped midsong (I was charging it at the time). After I tried to toggle back to a directory and then to shut it down, it brought up the sad icon and the prompt to the apple.com/support/iPod link.
I've tried recharging with no change of status. I've also tried to connect it with my iBook but iTunes won't come up and it won't connect (a first for me).
I've got a feeling it's dead, but before I send it in for restoring (and wiping out 5,800+ songs), I thought I'd check to see whether anyone else has any other suggestions? (I have most of the music on CD, so I can reprogram, but before I go to that step, I thought I'd see if there's anything else less drastic I can try.)
    Thanks.
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4)

Sounds like you might have to restore it, but you can do that yourself. Backup your library before you do restore it, that way you wont have to go back and burn all the cd's over again and it will save you a LOT of time. The link below is how to restore your iPod. Good luck.

  • Nano appears dead 3rd gen

was playing fine then screen went blank. I have tried the 5 wotsnames, have plugged it into the PC...nothing other than an error message ....usb device not recognised. I have also plugged it into a seperate power source..but still dead..Is there anything else I can do ?

Whoa! Fixed! I just saw another related thread and I got mine to work again. Try pushing the center and menu buttons simultaneously for about 10 seconds (this time I used a finger on each button, straight down). Worked for me. Good luck.

  • Shuffle appears dead

    My shuffle stopped working today.
It was fully charged last night and filled with music.
I plug it in to my car stereo on my way to work and then hook up the headphones for the walk from the car park. On the way home, when hooked up to the car stereo through AUX port, the music stopped right in the middle of a song for no apparent reason. Total play time today was just over an hour.
Since then no lights, not recognised in iTunes and unable to reset.
Any suggestions on what could be wrong or how to fix before I decide it is really dead and send it off the the recycler.

take it to an apple store or where you bought it because if the USB broke on it they won't work.

  • Z22 Appears Dead

My Z22 stopped working.  I did not have any warning that anything was going wrong, but one day recently I tried to  turn it on and nothing happened - blank screen.    I tried recharging it (using a charger I had used several times in my car's lighter), but there was no sign of any life.  Left it plugged in for several hours.  Still nothing.  What could be wrong?  Dead rechargeable battery?  If so, how can I get a new one?  Have I lost all my data anyway?
I had many important phone numbers and addresses which I need and, unfortunately, I did not have back-up.
Am I out of commision or is there still a chance to salvage something.
    Thanks for your  help!

    Post relates to: Palm Z22

The Z22 should not lose any data while it is powered off.
Try this procedure to see if you can wake up the Z22.  With the power supply plugged in, press the reset button on the back of the handheld several times in a row to see if the handheld will power on. If that does not work, plug in the Z22 to the AC power supply and let it charge overnight and then try the reset button procedure again.
If you get the Z22 to power on, I would suggest you sync to the PC to backup your data.

  • Nano appears dead

I have a second generation Nano. I have only had it for 3 months and I went to play it in my car and it went completely dead, or so it seems. I had it fully charged before plugging it in, and now the screen is black. I tried plugging it into my computer and there is no change. It is not recognized by iTunes or the computer. I have also tried resetting it and there is no change. Any solution to my problem?
    Second generation Nano   Windows XP

Wow! I can't wait to see what that looks like. I was just at the Apple store and they only have the 3rd generation Nano for sale
Let's first figure out what iPod you have. Go here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
And pick the one that looks most like yours. Also, under settings, click on about and tell us how much memory it has.
Then, let's make sure you went through all the proper steps for trying to unstick an iPod. Click on the one that looks like yours, and do everything in order.

  • IPhoe4 appears dead after plugging into laptop

After I plugged my iPhone4 to my laptop (XP), it did not start charging. The screen looks dead and I cannot power on/off. However when I call my number from another line, it rings! I have been using my iPhone to charge from laptop, wall socket for 3 months now.
Before I plugged into the laptop, the charge on the ipHone was showing at 49% - so there is some bit of battery still left in there.

First plug your mini on an USB-Power adapter NO PC!!
Than normally it will start, load the mini's battery for a while.
Than instal the latest version of itunes on your pc.
Open itunes than plug your mini in...
And it normally shows up.. Restore and done!
When it doesn't work the mini has a wrong format! That happens when you restored it on a mac!!!
Maybe you've done that. Than plug it into a mac open Disc-Utility than change the format to FAT.
Than again in your windows and will it work...
Ask again when it won't or you does'nt understand

  • Iphone freezing/appearing dead

When pressing the lock button...or once it locks automatically, my iphone screen goes black and responds to NOTHING. The only way to see the screen again is to plug in the charger...but once the phone locks again, the whole process is repeated. This means I have no working phone (which is also needed for my work) and no ipod etc etc. I would really appreciate an answer since I can't even see how to remove the sim card to put it in an old, functional phone.
    Thanks.

    penders,
When the iPhone goes into sleep mode, the only way to wake it up is to push the Home button on the front, or the Sleep/Wake button on the top. If neither of those options are waking the phone, you may want to try some basic troubleshooting steps:
Try resetting your iPhone. To reset the iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time until you see the Apple logo.
If that doesn't work, then try to reset all settings. To reset settings, Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. Note: This will reset all settings. No data or media will be deleted.
If that still doesn't work, you can try restoring the iPhone using iTunes. To restore, connect the iPhone to your computer. When it appears in the Source list, click on Restore in the Summary tab. Note: This will delete all media and data. All settings will be reset as well. If possible, sync iPhone with iTunes before restoring to back up your most recent settings.
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.
