Tecra A4: Bios passwords rejected: keyboard layout trouble?

Before traveling I have decided to protect my professional laptop (Tecra A4) with both a Bios password and a harddrive password.
I went into the Bios, entered the main password, went on page 2, enter the disk password, rebooted, got prompted for the password, type it... rejected. Tried 3 times and the laptop stoped.
What is going on here? I *know* the password I typed, plus I typed it twice in the Bios screen, so I am *sure* of what I typed.
Sooo I am suspected a keyboard layout issue, as I have an Azerty layout.
Is it possible that when in the Bios admin the layout is one way and in the initial password screen, another way? I have used "a" and "m", letters that move between Qwerty and Azerty.
Of course I have tried typing my password with "q" instead of "a" and ";" instead of "m", but to no avail.
I am locked. This is driving me nuts.
Any help welcome,
David

Hi
I have investigated a little bit on the Toshiba website and found this Toshiba document:
http://support.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB5A0164000IR01.htm
Well, if you will not solve this issue you have to contact the Toshiba service.
He can downgrade the BIOS or remove the BIOS password.

  • Tecra-A8 bios password reset

    Hi. some days ago i deactived the fingirprint enrollment. i was expecting that there is no need to fingerprint and bios password.but now it need to enter the bios password to enter the laptop and i have forgotten this.i dont know what should i do.there is no any toshia service center in our country.now i cant do any thing with my laptop.is there any way to reset this password ?   could any one help me?
    thanks

    Unfortunately, that is the one area where we are not allowed to help you.  The terms of service forbid anyone here to help a user bypass, or reset a bios password for security reasons.
    All I can suggest is to try contacting some local PC repair shops and see if they can help you.
    If it was just a windows password, that would be totally different.

I know the keyboard layout is UK, but I don't know why it doesn't want to work, because if a choose the input language as portuguese and the keyboard layout as UK it should work, isn't? • Unlock BIOS and change Keyboard layout MSI laptop GS70 2OD-002US

    Confirmation: 2CS96102H81542105
    My model is GS70 2OD-002US with Dual SSD RAID 0. I also have Ubuntu 14.04 installed in the RAID array besides Windows 8.1 (updated from Win 8 that came with the Laptop.
    Could you please fully unlock my BIOS and add all the extra stuff you have? I also need to reconfigure my keyboard. I have attached an image of the layout I need, and the following are the changes explained.
    1. Swap Left CTRL and Left ALT
    2. Swap Fn and Windows Key
    3. Convert the "extra \ key" next to the spacebar into a HOME key
    4. Convert Right ALT GR key into an END key
    5. Convert Right CTRL into Right Click (pop-up menu key)
    6. Swap the Caps Lock Key and LEFT SHIFT key
    I installed the lastest BIOS from the MSI Site using the DOS method (70E) update. BIOS info is in the screenshot. After unlocking will I be able to set fan speeds from BIOS? If I want fan speed tweak should I give you the fan percentage that should be mapped to the temparature in C?
    Thank you so much for your effort. Hope you will PM me with further instructions.

  • Tecra 9100 -I forgot my BIOS password - what can I do?

    Hello, I hope I'm posting my thread in the correct part of Your forum...
    My question is - is there anything I could do if I forgot my BIOS password for the Toshiba Tecra t9100 LapTop?
    Model no: pt910e-0049g-dk
    Thanks in advance for Your swift reply

    No, the problem isn't caused by the dirty laser lens...
    When I power-On the LapTop, it displays big red
    "Toshiba in touch with tomorrow" logo
    (and the CD Rom led flashes),
    but then it displays:
    "Ide #1 Error" message
    (and the CD rom stops flashing then.)
    Then I'm stuck as the following message is "Missing Operating System".
    Hoverer - it might be interesting to mention that right after the "Ide #1 Error" message is displayed - the CD Rom appears to be completely "dead" then (won't even eject the disk by pressing the eject button UNTIL I RESTART THE LAPTOP?!)
    I guess that the LapTop attempts to address the CD rom, and due to some reason it can't address it, then it kills the power supply to the CD rom (or what else could explain rejection in ejecting the CD Rom door AFTER the "Ide #1 Error" message)
    I will try to get another CD rom just to clear is this the problem on the CD Rom side or on the LapTop side...

  • [Solved] Can't login with current keyboard layout and `@` in password

    Hi, I'm a new arch user. I followed archwiki to install Enlightenment17. All went fine but I have a problem to login since during setup I inserted '@' in root/regular user passwords. During setup I selected the Italian layout and all seems ok, except grafical login through entrance (from aur, but I tested also kdm, with same results): password not recognized. Before asking, is not a CAPS/NUMLOCK issue since the password works using it in console login. I discovered that I can type '@' with the following combination: SHIFT+2; in an italian keybord this should print a double quote (") but in entrance (and kdm) it correponds to '@'. After login this way, the keyboard works normally (for instance using 'su'). So the problem is limited to graphical login (entrance and kdm) during which a different keyboard layout is used.
    Did I miss some config file?
    For the sake of clarity:
    1) /etc/locale.gen has "it_IT.UTF-8 UTF-8" uncommented
    2) /etc/locale.conf contains "LANG=it_IT.UTF-8"
    3) /etc/vconsole.conf contains "KEYMAP=it"
    4)
    $ locale
    LANG=it_IT.UTF-8
    LC_CTYPE="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_NUMERIC="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_TIME="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_COLLATE="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_MONETARY="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_MESSAGES="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_PAPER="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_NAME="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_ADDRESS="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_TELEPHONE="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_MEASUREMENT="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_IDENTIFICATION="it_IT.UTF-8"

    Thanks for any help.

    cfr wrote:Have you tried specifying a variant?
    I exclude a variant problem considering that in any other condition the keyboard layout is right. The system is configured for an it KEYMAP but it is obvious that in entrance/kdm is used an 'us' map. Is this hardcoded somewhere? I also tryed to comment out any entry in /etc/locale.gen except 'it_IT.UTF-8 UTF-8': still 'us' keymap in graphical login screen.
    Probably a kind user with a non-us keyborad layout could create a dummy user with password containing '@' or '#' or any other special symbol to verify that this condition is reproducible, a first step for a bug report.
    Cheers

  • Safari changes my keyboard layout when on password field

    Hi,
    after upgrade to Safari 5, I got really strange problem.
    I have two keyboard layout configured, U.S., which I use regulary, and Czech, to which I switch on rare occasions when I need to write something in my native language. I have configured keyboard shortcut Shift-Cmd-Space for switching between those layouts.
    Now, the problem is that whenever I enter a password field on a web page form in Safari, it immediately switches to the Czech layout and disables the U.S. one, so I even can not switch back! The keyboard shortcut does not work and the "U.S." item in the keyboard indicator menu is grey.
    This is extremely annoying. Does anyone have an idea what is causing it and how can I fix it?
    Also, I think (but I'm not sure) that I have sometimes seen this before. But now (probably after Safari 5 installation) it happens on all the passwords fields I tried (even on pages I never visited before).
    regards,
    Bob
    mid-2008 15" MacBook Pro, Snow Leopard, Safari 5, all available updates. In the Language & Text section of the preferences, I have following settings:
    Language: First English, then Czech, then the rest.
    Formats: Region: Custom (mostly czech with some tweaks)
    Input Sources: Keyboard & Character Viewer checked, Czech-QWERTY checked, English checked. Selected "Use the same one in all documents", checked Show input menu in menu bar.

    Problem solved! I have installed Keywurl some time ago (I really missed Firefox's bookmark keywords). After I upgraded to Safari 5, Keywurl said "Ooops, I'm not tested with Safari 5, disabling myself", so I did not suspected it. But out of deseperation, I tried to remove the plugin completely from the disk. And it worked! No more problems with keyboard layout in password field. Strange, but at least it works.

  • Tecra A10 - Setup BIOS Password Remotely

    I need to set the BIOS password on every machone on my network!!!
    Is there any way i can do this remotley via sccm or something to save me going around every machine and doing it manually?
    Thank you in advance

    Hi
    To be honest Im not sure if this will be possible.
    But as far as I know the Tecra A10 has a preinstalled tool called: Toshiba Security Assist.
    This tool can be used for settings the BIOS user password, HDD user password or fingerprint authentification.
    Maybe it would be possible to get access to this tool using the Active Directory.
    What do you thing about this idea???

  • Tecra M3: How can I reset or bypass a unknown BIOS password

    My brother passed away last year and left a Toshiba Tecra M3 protected by a Bios password. How or where can I resest this password.
    I have good computer background by this one proved to be a chalenge please help.

    Hi
    I am afraid that you will be not able to bypass or to delete this unknown BIOS password
    Of course, the BIOS password could be deleted on the desktop PC by removing the BIOS battery but the notebook technology is simply different and this procedure will not help
    You have to contact the ASP in your country who is able to do it.
    or ask you brother for the password ;)

  • BIOS password issue on Tecra A9

    My laptop Toshiba Tecra A9 have a problem with the BIOS password and I was wondering if you could provide me the password since I can not access anything without it

    BIOS password is very important security feature and such issues cannot be clarified on public forum.
    All problems with BIOS password must be clarified with Toshiba service provider.
    If your notebook is blocked by password and you cannot access it please contact nearest Toshiba service and they can remove it for you.

  • BIOS password removal on Tecra M11-11M

    I have a Toshiba Tecra M11-11M which has been password locked. I have stripped the notebook and removed the BIOS battery for 10 min but the password still remains ie on the screen it still reads PASSWORD- ****.
    There is no way to enter the BIOS via any key combination.
    There are no markings or letters on the motherboard whatsoever ie: C35-C36 or J12-J13 to short out which would in most cases remove the password and allow access to the BIOS.
    Any techies out there with any ideas would be much appreciated.
    Some people asking for help with a bios password are not thieves but just forgetful fools.

    As far as I know Toshiba uses several methods for BIOS password removal. On business machines like Tecra or Portege the method is not the same as on Satellite models.
    BIOS battery removal maybe works on desktops but not on mobile machines.
    Mobile machines must have better protection due to fact that can be pretty easy stolen and it is very important to prevent fraudulent use.
    > Some people asking for help with a bios password are not thieves but just forgetful fools.
    Thats correct but you cannot expect that BIOS password removal method will be described on public forum. Contact nearest Toshiba service provider and they will do this for you. All you must do is to show valid bill and prove that you are real owner of this Tecra machine.

  • How to reset BIOS Password on Tecra A10?

    Hi,
    Is there any way to reset the BIOS password on a Tecra A10-112?
    Thanks!

    Of course there is way but this kind of info is top secret and definitely not to be posted on public forum.
    This is very important security feature and cannot be discussed here.
    Contact nearest Toshiba service provider and they can remove it for you.

  • Re: Removing BIOS password on Tecra A8

    Greetings,
    It was recently purchased two secondhand laptops Toshiba Tecra A8with serial numbers Y6091612H and Y6091296H. Both were passworded (there is no opportunity even to go into the BIOS). On the Internet I found the information that it may reset the password using the response code.
    Is it possible to get the response code?

    Im afraid as*** is right.
    As far as I know Toshiba uses several methods for BIOS password removal and one of them is based on entering response code.
    With other words Toshiba service provider sends unique code to Toshiba and after short period of time ASP receives response code that can unlock certain notebook.
    With other words: notebook owner cannot do this on its own. It can be done by Toshiba service only.
    Contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. Addresses and phone numbers you can find on http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/ASP_SUPPORT/
    Bye and good luck.
