Tecra A8-EZ8312 DVD Drive Replacement Compatability??

Hi All..
Working on a clients Tecra A8-EZ8312 to replace the dead DVD drive.
For whatever reason Toshiba apparently is hardware specific?
What's so special about the DVD Drives that the Bios wont recognize a basic DVD replacement Drive?
Does anyone know what drives are compatable with the Tecra?
Please don't answer with "Call Toshiba for a replacement drive".  There's a better answer out there.
Anyone have experience with this?

Tecra A8-EZ8312 (PTA83U-03202C)
These two part numbers will for sure work.

  • DVD drive replacement on Satellite A100-646

    Hi all,
I want replace the DVD drive on my laptop. (I have many problems never solved)
Do you know if exist a list of compatibility model for the A100-646?
    Model to suggest me?
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards
    Fabrizio

    Hi!
In your case I would only choose a DVD drive from the list of the user manual. Otherwise the drive could not work and/or recognized.
By the way, if you have lost your user manual you can download it on the Toshiba website:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
You can also look on eBay for a second hand drive. Maybe there you can find a good offer.

  • New Mac Mini dvd drive replacement

hey has anyone tried to replace the DVD drive with the Sony BC-5600S bluray drive
its sata and the right size and its a slot drive, i really want to give it a shot
the drive can be had online for around $100. anyone tried this or think its possible?

Well I got a bluray drive in my PC rig I could pull out and connect to my mini and test this out but that's way too much work besides I could just google it and find out which I did:
It looks like it works in bootcamp just need to make sure to watch out for some stuff
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1213777&tstart=4
Someone was even nice enough to write a step-by-step on how to do it:
    http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=84989
p.s. Since the 9400 video that comes with the 2009 mini is HDCP compliant you should be able to use the DVI adapter it came with and you'll get smooth video since the 9400 was designed for high definition playback!

  • DVD Drive Replacement

So... the situation is I can't use my DVD drive... I don't need any help on how to fix it or what to check since I've already gone through the problem/situation... does anyone know a different way where I can access/use my dvds... such as cd/dvd sharing on a different computer and use it from there... I would like any idea/suggestion... when I say that I mean like EVERYTHING/ANYTHING. I want whatever ideas you have 'cause I don't have any and I really badly want to use my dvds. If all else fails I will buy an external dvd drive or get a dvd replacement...

    See if this helps:

  • Macbook pro unibody dvd drive replacement

Hi guys, im new here, looking for some advice.
My dvd drive on my macbook pro 13" unibody is playing up, it makes a odd noise when a disc is inserted, like something plastic is scratching.
my DVD burner is GS23N SB03, i think i need to replace mine. Ive found a burner on the net but its a GS23N S23NA, does anyone know if i can swap mine for this? and would i need to do something software wise to get it to work?
    many thanks
    Gary

How new is your MacBook Pro?, if it is a mid 2010 you can bring it to the apple store to have them take a look to it. If this is the case (having a 2010 MBP), you'll most likely be under the 1 year hardware warranty, and if an error is found with your MBP internal DVD drive, Apple will replace it at no cost.

  • Satellite L30-134 - CD/DVD drive replacement

    Hello All
I hope I can get a little help here.
I recently lost my CD-ROM drive on my L30 and want to replace it. What I could do with is an exploded diagram for the nuts and bolts bit, and the model number of the CD-ROM drive or a compatable replacement if anyone knows of one?
I have carefully removed the screw from the case but seem to have some sort of fixing in the centre that I cant fathom, no screw showing, but it seems firmly attached.
    Thanks for any advice
    John

    Hiya Luke
Yeah, i should imagine a user manual would list compatible replacements, but unfortunately, i dont have one.
I kinda figured that not every cd rom drive would work, there are a fair few on ebay and just wondered if anyone knew of a good replacement having had to do a similar job.
I still have the problem of not being able to get the laptop apart enough to get to the mounting hardware,
so if anyone has a good idea of how this unit comes apart i would be very grateful.
I have triple checked that all the screws are out, but there seems to be something bang in the middle of the unit holding it together, almost directly underneath the "space" bar, yet i cant find any trace of a screw. Most annoying, as if i could get the unit apart and remove the cd drive, THEN i could get the model number of the drive and do a little more of an informed search.
    Cheers all

  • IQ500 Supermulti Slimslot DVD Drive Replacement issue

I replaced my drive with a Super Multi DVD Rewriter, Model: GS30N, and when I start up the drive will accept a disk, and can read information from it.
However, the eject button on the side panel will not work.  (The eject button that is wired directly to the motherboard and not through the disk drive.)
I have to use either the Eject... command or remove the side panel and use the disk drive eject button to eject a disk.
Is there a firmware update needed to get the eject button to work?  Or is the GS30N not compatible with this system (for the button anyway)?

    Hello Jaconus,
What is your product number and operating system?
    Thanks!

  • DVD drive replacement on Satellite 1400

I have Satellite 1400-153E Laptop. Where are the fixing screws for the DVD player located please?

To remove optical disc drive you must disassemble the whole notebook. The optical disc drive is connected to mainboard and you need access to right connector. Unfortunately maintenance manuals document is not public document and there is no step-by-step explanation how to do this.
Google a little bit around. Maybe you will find instruction how to do this.

    Hi Rob
It is pretty complicated to explain how to remove optical disc drive. Before you do this you must remove top cover. The optical disc drive is fixed with two screws. When you remove both of them you can pull the ODD out of its bay.
Sorry but without exact maintenance manuals is not easy to explain this. Disassembling procedure for this notebook model is pretty complicated. Have you already disassembled your Satellite Pro?

  • Satellite A200-21t CD/DVD drive replacement with an Blu-ray reader

    Hi,
I have a Satellite A200-21t notebook that came with the mat****a UJ-850 drive.
My original drive isn't working anymore...
I'm planning to buy a new one, but i would like one that has a buit in Blu-ray dvd reader.
I heard that not all players work with Toshiba's laptops, so i would like some help to find a bluray drive that would work with my notebook.
    Two drives caught my attention:
the Panasonic UJ-120 and the Sony BC 5500A.
Do these drivers work with Toshibas?
    Does anyone has another suggestion?
Thanks very much for the help!

    Hi
    > Do these drivers work with Toshibas?
I think you will have to test it yourself.
As far as I know Toshiba didnt mention anything about compatible Blueray drives for Satellite A200.
The point is that not all drives are compatible due to different master/slave/c-sel settings.
Using not compatible ODD you will get an IDE #1 error message and the drive will not be recognized by BIOS.
But I read here in the forum that some guys managed to upgrade the own Toshiba units with a blue ray drive
Therefore Im thinking that youve got a good chance to upgrade it.

Booted into OS 9.2. Had to install Toast 5.1.3 from CD as I have not installed the program while started from my 9 volume. Used 110D to install. Restarted machine and burnt CD at 32x. Burn successful. Did not try a DVD-R.

  • DVD RW Replacement at Bluewater

Anyone had a DVD Drive replaced in their G4 iMac at Bluewater!
Is this a case of drop it off AM & collect PM :?:
My 4 year old drive has given up the ghost (was looking at replacing it myself). Looked into it, scared the Bejesus outta me.

FWIW and I don't know if you investigated this Apple would probably have charged you £185-£195 (plus around £70 for labour) to replace it with a Pioneer 106 drive. The Pioneer 115 is double-layer and much faster.
The money saved is signficant for those who take their time and learn how to do the upgrade themselves.
    Glad it went well.

  • Replacement DVD drive for a Portege A100

    Hi
My Portege's DVD drive is making horrible clicking noises and appears to be on its way out. I have read from a thread on here that universal drives might not work as the Portege's BIOS has assigned the DVD drive as slave and that the new drive must be slave in order to work. Is this correct? I really do not want to be doing the soldering fix!
I have another laptop which has a TSST drive in and i plugged this in and the portgege showed an ide error. Is it just a matter of having the correct firmware or is the issue regarding the ide settings mentioned above.
I have shortlisted a Toshiba dvd drive PA3162E-2CD2 but it says it is compatitble with the Portege 4000, 4010, M100 and Tecra 9000, but does not list the A100 as compatible. Does anyone know if this drive will work on my machine?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi again
You are right. I have checked users manuals and there is nothing about compatible ODDs (optical disc drive). I recommend you to replace it wit the same model. Portege A100 is not known to me (I believe it is designed for UK market only) but ODD replacement is pretty simply. I believe ODD is fixed and it is mostly done with one screw that you can find on bottom side. After removing the screw you can take ODD out of notebook.
New drive must be placed into same place, fixed with screw and the job is done. If nobody offer any help here you can see if you will be able to remove ODD alone.
    Bye and good luck!
