Haven't asked Verizon.  I think it is in my settings for Airport.  Need to know proper settings.

  • Is anyone having trouble with internet on the new macbook air and an old modem?

Is anyone having trouble with internet on the new macbook air using an old modem?
I live in NYC and have an old modem/router and keep getting kicked off the internet. I have time warner as my internet provider.

    Hello there adell723,
I suggest taking a look at this article we have named Troubleshooting Wi-Fi issues in OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6 found here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628?viewlocale=en_US.
Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly
Your Mac may not not stay connected to your Wi-Fi network reliably.
Your Mac may stop accessing the Internet during use.
    Solution
Use these steps if your computer disconnects from its Wi-Fi network unexpectedly.
Check your range to the Wi-Fi router and reduce the effect of interference. If your computer is too far from your Wi-Fi router or your environment has too much Wi-Fi interference, then your computer may not detect the Wi-Fi network properly. The easiest way to check for range limits with your Wi-Fi network is to move your computer or your Wi-Fi router closer together and make sure that there are no obstructions (such as walls, cabinets, and so forth) between the router and your computer.See Potential sources of wireless interference for more information about interference and solutions.
Try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network. If your computer works fine when connected to a different Wi-Fi network, then the issue may be related to your network router or ISP. In that case, contact the manufacturer of your router or your ISP.
If you have Mac OS X 10.8.4 Mountain Lion installed then I would recommend using Wireless Diagnostics tool which is on your computer already.
Here is the article for it and how to use it to assist with wifi connectivity issues.

  • Trouble with DNS set up

    Hello !
I've got a real trouble with my dns configuration... and i can't understand! so, i need some help....
well, qutie newbie in mac os server, i run in on a G4, and i had not noticed any trouble until i've decided to run open directory as a master with LDAP, wanting to have a kerberos protection for the users.
Kerberos doesn't want to play with me !
I've been in console mode to have a look, and, actually i've seen this :
"Oct 17 11:31:08 wakan servermgrd: servermgr_dns: no name available via DNS for 192.168.0.109
Oct 17 11:31:08 wakan servermgrd: servermgr_dns: no reverse DNS entry for server, various services may not function properly"
Ok... my DNS has a trouble... but i don't know how to fix it ! Is there anybody in this world who can help me?
I don't want to have a real DNS for my little server... but i understand that my config is not good. I can understand that having a caching DNS can improve the quality of my config, and, in other hand that it is necessary for having the services of OSX server in an effeciant way, but i don't know the way and the parameters i've to put in my config to fix it.
Now, just some words on my config...
First, i've got an adress provided by my FAI (the frenchy workd for ISP, i think) is "193.252.209.135". This adress is set on a d-link modem router via PPOE. The DNS of my provider (wanadoo.fr) are 80.10.246.1 and 80.10.246.132.
After this there is my G4 With mac osX server.
    • en0, the "extenal gate" and the internal ethernet on the computer is plug on the modem with the adress "192.168.0.109". the router is set on "192.168.0.1". the dns are 80.10.246.1 and 80.10.246.132.
    • en1, the "internal gate" for the network, an PCI card in the computer, has the parameters : adress "192.168.3.1", subnet "255.255.255.0", router "192.168.3.1". no dns records. (no VPN service for the moment). After this, i've a switch for the macs behind the server. (without any link agregation)
All those parameters have been set by the gateaway assistant.
And now the parameters inside the admin server :
DHCP : en1 - adress from 192.168.3.2 to 192.168.3.254, name 192.168.3. no static card. Router 192.168.3.1. No name for domaine by defaut, name servers 80.10.246.1 and 80.10.246.132 No LDAP, no WINS.
DNS : No zone transfert, recursivity is ON. No zone records.
NAT : set on full, Transfert and Network Address Translation.
When i've been on the terminal, i had those information:
    "wakan:~ st$ sudo changeip -checkhostname
    Password:
    Primary address = 192.168.0.109
    Current HostName = wakan.local
The DNS hostname is not available, please repair DNS and re-run this tool."
All my "main" services are working fine (AFP, Firewall, DHCP, DNS, Update) Open Directory is running without Kerberos. By the way, all the macs after the G4server can have a corect access to internet, and share information via LDAP of Open Directory, but i've to say that, a couple of days later, a friend of mine, who has a PC computer, can't have a DHCP dynamic address when he plug on my little network. I think that it is an other trouble, and i've decided to have e look to this later... but if someone knows how to resolve it...
So here begins the nightmare for me... so if anybody can help me... i realy need some help to fix this mystery!!!
    Special thanks!

As the router modem is already doing NAT why use NAT in the server?
If you want to use OpenDirectory and other services you should/need to set up the DNS correctly using the server's private IP (and others in the same range the server is setup with). The domainname used internally can be different than your public one.
And then use the server as the only DNS for you LAN clients and the server itself. Forwarders (your ISP DNSes) in /etc/named.conf usually speeds up lookups of external addresses (also turning off IPv6 can help that too).

I'm not sure how to post a message. I hope this might interest someone. The situation; 3 floors,I am having trouble with an an Airport Extreme, 802.11n on the top floor and a Mac Pro 3.1 on the bottom floor. Not always but often it has trouble seeing the Airport and making a connection. I have an older Airport Express, would it help to install it? would it work best if it was installed in the same room? should it be installed half way in between? Get another Extreme? The Mac Book Pro on the middle floor can see 11 networks in the neighbourhood if that might be causing a problem or would if I installed the Express. Thank for your consideration.

Thanks for your time ... I appologize for the font and colour, I compossed the question in pages and failed to notice the font colour as grey ... there are a variety of computers of various ages so I think it is using a setting that allows both 5G and 2.4 ... the connection to the Airport is thru a cable modem and cable does run throuhout the house ... maybe those hard wires would be a place to look at ... do you think that putting the 'Express' on the second floor might help ... thanks again ...

  • Trouble with e-mail

I've noticed that I'm having trouble with my .mac/.me account in that I can't seem to send messages anymore. We haven't changed service providers or modems or routers...and it's a problem on the imac and the ibook (4 year differential in age). I've checked all my ports, etc., and I can receive mail but can't send it. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Hi, Amy, and welcome to the Discussions.
This forum is for old, pre-G3 Apple hardware and so probably not the best place for you question. I'd suggest you ask in the MobileMe forums. You'll be more likely to get help there. When you repost, make sure to include information about what you're using to get and send your mail; the Mail application that comes with Mac OS X, a web browser, or something else (and if so, what).
    Regards.

  • Tecra M1 - Modem doesn't work (can't open a port)

I have a problem: After reinstalling WinXP and drivers on my Tecra M1, modem doesn't function. It even can't diagnose itself - there always comes a warning: "Can't open a port (COM). It may be used by another device or application". I installed the latest Toshiba drivers for the modem, but nothing changes. How can I fix it? Looking forward for your advices!
    Best regards.

    Hi
Did you install the drivers in the right order? Not? So do it!
Did you install any additional devices or software which could has a bad influence on the modem?
Check the modem status in the device manger. Can you see any yellow exclamation marks?
Try to start the modem test within the Operating system.
    Check the Modem function under
Start -> Control Panel -> Phone and Modem Options -> Modems Tab -> Properties -> Diagnostics
by pressing the "Query Modem" button.
If the Modem Information window contain a list of AT commands (including ATI2, ATI3, ATI4 etc.), then the modem is correctly installed. The ATI5 command ends in with the number for the selected Regional settings (for example Germany = 06).
To change the Regional Setting please use the Toshiba Internal Modem Region Select Utility.

  • Still having trouble with audio on Macbook Pro

I had posted a discussion board earlier on this issue. I've been having trouble with audio for certain videos on youtube and basically any website embedded with a video. The audio works for a few seconds that doesn't or it doesn't work at all. My volume is up, not on mute, and the one on the video isn't on mute either. It's funny because I just tried watching a video on Firefox (as opposed to Safari) and it works. Could it possible be something with the settings for safari?

Try restarting your Mac, resetting your router, and resetting your modem. My cable internet has gotten slow at times as well, and when I reset my router everything cleared up.

  • Trouble with a Linkysys Wireless-N Router WRT-160W After a black out

So like the subject says I am having trouble with the router. Last night there was a major storm in my town and the power and cable were out for hours. When it came back (it was only for about twenty minutes) the network was there but I was not able to connect to it from any of my computers. The desktop however that was hardlined to it works fine on the internet. I've tried restarting the modem the computers, and the router, pushing the reset buttons, even holding the reset button to the point it made the router act like its being used for the first time and creating a new network but I still can't connect to it. I only bot this router a couple of months ago so I'd hate to have to buy a new one.
    Any help would be appreciate.
    Thanks.

Are you using Cable connection or DSL connection ?
If you are using cable connection then follow this link and if you are using DSL connection then follow this link to configure your router. This should fix the issue for you.

  • Re: BIOS version 3.30 Tecra A11/M11: Problems with Ubuntu systems?

I just got the invitation to update to BIOS version 3.30 on my Tecra A11/M11.
I'm still running Win7 right now but plan to add a dual boot with Ubuntu when the next LTS hits in April.
Is anyone having trouble with the new BIOS?
Should I upgrade, or leave 3.20 intact?
I find no evidence of trouble with 3.20.

Why to upgrade the BIOS if everything is OK?
Furthermore as far as I know Toshiba does not support the Linux OS and I doubt the new BIOS would improve any Linux performance so if you are happy with the v3.20, stay with that

  • Trouble with bridge mode and port forwarding

I have a Westell Model 6100F DSL modem in bridge mode into my network and I'm having trouble forwarding ports. Is there any general guidance available to do this. I have set many of my friends networks up to allow port forwarding but all have been on other service providers, mainly cable. (my experience) My network is the only one I have had trouble with.
Basically, my question is, while in bridge mode, does the modem forward all incoming traffic to my NAT router or do I need to apply special port forwarding settings in the modem to allow this?
If bridge mode is the reason I cannot forward the ports, can someone explain how to set the WEstell 6100F back to factory defaults so I can start over.
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
    Paul

If bridge mode is set up correctly, your router should be holding the Public IP address (basically not something that is a 192.168 address) as shown at http://www.whatismyip.com/ and compared against what IP your router has.
If your router has the public IP, all problems lie with either your router or your PC's firewall and configuration. I'd check out portforward.com for some guides on forwarding ports for your router or poarticular application if you need some additional help.

  • Trouble with Extreme N base station and Express station wireless

Upgraded extreme base station with new extreme "N" base station. Currently have the extreme "N" base station connected to cable modem on 2nd floor. I have wired the house to have the demarc on the 2nd floor. I purchased the express base station to be placed on 1st floor to extend the wireless range from the extreme "N" base station.
Prior to this setup, I had a wired bridge on the 1st floor to the main router on the 2nd floor. I was able to connect all wireless connections to the bridge where there was weak signal to the main router on 2nd floor.
The trouble I am having is that whether I have the express base connected or not. My signal is near the same as having only the main base station on 2nd floor. I can be seated right next to the express on the 1st floor and have only 1-2 bars on the signal.
I have updated and running the latest utilities for the airports. I have also been seeing the same trouble with other Mac's and PC's.
Also, I have been noticing the extreme "N" base station blinking amber when no Mac's or PC's are accessing the network or even when they are.
So, even when both the extreme and express have solid green LED, I still have the problem.
I am not sure if I am setting up this incorrectly or if I have hit a brickwall with this setup in my house.
Could I hard wire the express from the extreme from the second floor as I did with the bridge I use to have? I am not sure if the express would work as a wired bridge.
Just appears to be performing less then my prior PC networking products.
Thanks everyone...hope to get some insight. I have read all the prior discussions and still not getting good results.

    Tesserax....Thanks for the quick clarification on using the expresss as a wired bridge. I did avert back to a wired bridge now using all apple products. I was trying to get away with reusing the hard wire from the base station since I was running out of ports on the base station. {Apple has to be difficult with only having 3 ethernet ports.}
So I had to run a linksys switch off the extreme "N" base station.
    Thanks again..
Guess I have to live with the quirks...

  • Trouble with connection to Airpot Express on new Macbook

Hello my fellow Apple users! I hope one of you can help me. I purchased a new Macbook last week and I love it except I'm having trouble with the connection to my Airport Express. I originally set up the Airport on my old iMac, which is located on the 2nd floor of my house. The Airport is plugged in to the modem on the 1st floor. Since I have a new Macbook, I boxed up the old iMac and put it in a closet on the 2nd floor because I'm not using it anymore.
The weird thing is that my wifi connection works just fine on the 2nd floor but can't find a connection on the 1st floor; where the Airport is plugged in.
So I'm thinking I need to uninstall the Airport on my iMac but I don't know how to do that. Any tips?

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Once an Apple AirPort base station is configured it retains no history of the computer that originally configured it. So "uninstalling the AirPort on your iMac" would not accomplish anything useful, even if you could do something that could be described that way.
How is your AirPort Express connected? Is its Ethernet port connected to a broadband modem?

  • Using 3.6.23. When i upgrade, trouble with Lloyds tsb site.

Using 3.6.23. When i upgrade, trouble with Lloyds tsb site. One of my accounts has code like>br all over it. Also when i want to access a specific account it logs me out. Cannot upgrade as cannot use internet banking. Any ideas? edit

After I loaded 5.5, then removed it and loaded 3.6 again, I had no problems.
Then my hard drive died and I installed a new one.
Then I downloaded ONLY 3.6 since I already knew I didn't like the changes that 5.5 had made and the kinks hadn't been ironed out. That was in July.
The hesitation problem started recently, toward the end of Sept. I have wireless cable modem that runs 36-54 mbps but in Sept/Oct I was visiting family and distance from their router sometimes meant running at 12 or 24. I thought the hesitation/lagging was due to that. BUT
Since coming home in mid Oct., although nothing about my home connection has changed, I am finding this lagging/not responding/hesitation problem continues AS IF the connection were slow but router/modem/internet connection are all intact.
This is what made me wonder if anyone else is experiencing this/reporting it to Firefox. Apparently not.

  • Mavericks bugs, trouble with computer

I installed Mavericks two days ago and since than my computer is living his own life. My mouse is all over the place clicking on things.
I can't use my computer after downloading this new software, never had trouble with Mac but this is really annoying.
Now I want to delete Mavericks but I just found out there's only one way to make a back-up and re-install everything.
Others have the same problem? Is there going to be an new update to get this problem fixed?
    Cheers, Marja

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not apply in your case.
    1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
    2. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and in that case the unit must be serviced or replaced.
    3. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
    4. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
    5. Reset the System Management Controller.
    6. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
    7. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
    8. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
    9. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
    10. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
    11. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.
