Tecra A8, WinXP SP2 - issue with built-in speakers

Hello there,
I know this issue has been brought up a few times, but I can't find a solution.
I recently inherited a Toshiba Tecra A8. Problem is : the built-in speakers can't seem to work, but the sound is just fine on external speakers or headphones. The speakers used to work at some point in the past, but the previous owner can not tell me what caused the sudden change.
Here's what I did, chronologically, after browsing multiple forums :
- SP3 was installed when I got the computer. I tried to revert back to SP2.
- I've reinstalled XP (had to, machine was too slow). SP2 came with the install CD.
- I've installed two XP hotfixes that were supposed to solve the problem : KB835221 and KB888111
- I've re-installed the Realtek Audio HD codec
- I always try muting/unmuting after everything I do, even before or after a reboot.
Here's what I can tell so far :
- Sound icon is present on the system tray. All volumes are up, whether on the Windows sound manager or on the Realtek one.
- I do not have DOS beeps.
- I'm still on SP2. Didn't try moving on to SP3 (on this new XP install, of course).
- Before I did reinstall Realtex Audio HD, the "internal" option listed under "I/O audio" was shown, but I couldn't access it. After the reinstall, it simply disappeared.
I think that's pretty much it. I came across the same solutions on different forums or group discussions. I've been searching for two days now, to no avail. The computer has never been dropped or damaged, and since it seems that a lot of people experience(d) the same problem as mine, I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware problem. Well, I hope it's not.
So there. I urge you, nay, I beg you to work your magic and come up with a flawless, absolute solution that will give me back the joy of listening to Justin Bieber in peace. Or something else.
Thanks in advance !

The speakers dont work but the sound is coming from headphones and external speakers?
Well, this would mean that your sound driver is OK and this is probably a speaker related problem. I think it speaker hardware malfunction :(

  • Models with Built in Speakers

It seems that the only iPod with built in speakers is the iPod Touch. Is this correct?

If you want a speaker you either have to go for the iPod touch (all generations except the 1st gen) or the 5th generation iPod nano. (only the 5th gen includes a speaker - this model was sold from 2009 - 2010.)

  • Can I connect a monitor with built in speakers to my macbook air?

Can I connect a monitor with built-in speakers to my macbook air?  What would you suggest in the 22" - 24" size for everyday use?

If you say that there is built in speakers. Most probably the connection is HDMi. You will need an adapter to connect the MacBook Air to the monitor through HDMI, at the same time, the adapter needs to support video and AUDIO.

  • External speakers with built in speakers?

Is there a way to have audio come out through both built in speakers and external speakers?

The only way that comes to my mind is in the latest versions of iTunes using Airtunes, and this obviously applies only to sound comin from iTunes.
When using a pair of external speakers connected to the AirportExpress, you click on both "Computer" and "Airport" in iTunes output menu (next to the buttons for Equalizer, Full screen, eject). Now everything that goes through iTunes will be heard on the computer and on the external speakers.
This does not work with any other source of sound in your computer (quicktime, DVD player, VLC, etcétera), only with iTunes.

  • Help with Built in Speakers

HI!  WE moved into a new home two years ago and it had five built in speakers in the living room.  We have never done anything with them becasue they are just wires coming out of a port in the wall.  I want to buy my husband a blu ray player for Christmas but I don't know if I can buy one with a connection for those or if I have to buy something else?? Please help!

You will need a 5 channel amplifier/receiver to power those speakers, or one of the 5 channel surround blu-ray disc combo's sold by Best Buy.  If yo don't understand how such things are accomlished, shuggest you have Geek Squad come out after purchase and hook it all up for you.  Enjoy!

  • PI 73 sp2 - issue with multimapping

We are having a strange issue in PI 73 sp2. We recently upgraded from PI 711 to PI 73 and migrated all our development artifacts over to the new instance. We have a multimapping scenario (1:3) which was working fine in the PI 711 instance is not working anymore in the new PI 73 instance.
    It is a
                                       SOAP (AE) -> IE -> JDBC/ABAP Proxy
    scenario.
We can see the payload in the RWB in Comm Channel monitoring but when it comes to the IE, mapping runtime is receiving an empty payload and the mapping fails.
Has anyone encountered any such issue ? I am hoping that someone can point me to a OSS note as it doesnt seem like anything is wrong with the interface as such. It was working just fine in the PI 711 instance and no changes were made in the new instance.
    Thanks
    Sridhar

Gabriel .. we are using the SOAP Adapter, we did update the meta-data to the PI BASIS 7.30 version. We are able to see the payload in the RWB in the SOAP Sender channel.
On further research, we noticed that the mappings migrated over from the PI 711 box to the PI 730 box are not working as designed as the contexts seem to be messed up. Hence, the sequence of execution is haywire and causing lot of errors. I am not sure if anyone else is facing similar issues.
    Thanks

  • T5I Issues with built-in flash

If I take photos in a dark room or in low lighting, the camera's built-in flash does go off but the image comes out dark. I tried two lenses and it is the same thing (so I know the problem is not with the lens). This was fine just a few weeks ago. I did reset all the settings.

The built-in pop-up flash is intended for relatively close distances... perhaps around 10'.   A vast assortment of externally mounted flashes (on or off camera) are available however -- and that's one of the advantages of a DSLR camera (most point & shoot cameras tend to have no ability to take advantage of supplemental lighting.)
The flash in your camera is rated with a "guide number" of 13 meters.  A "guide number" is the distance that the flash can adequately illuminate a scene EXCEPT it assumes a base ISO of 100 and also a base aperture of f/1.0.  Your lens will not be able to use f/1.0 -- but the reason the industry uses this as a standard is because it makes it very easy to determine the effective distance using any f-stop.
All you do is divide the guide number by the f-stop you are using.  So for example, if your lens is using f/5.6 then you'd divide 13 by 5.6.   13 ÷ 5.6 = 2.32.  That value is in meters (since the guide number was in meters... some older flashes were represented in feet.)   If you convert 2.32 meters into feet, you get 7.6 feet.
You can increase that distance by increasing the ISO.  Each time you increase the ISO by a stop you get to increase the distance by a factor of 1.4.   That means at ISO 200, your flash will cover distances out to just shy of 11' (at f/5.6).  At ISO 400, you can get out ot about 15'.
Canon makes it easy to determine the speedlight guide number because if you omit the trailing "0" from the model number (e.g. on the Speedlite 430EX II you'd just take the "43" and omit the final "0") those values actually represent the guide number in meters.  BTW... most other companies do NOT do this... don't attempt to use this if you evaluate a 3rd party flash.  But for that means a 430EX II has a guide number of 43 meters (again... ISO 100 and f/1.0).   43 meters works out to about 141'.  At f/5.6 that's still about 25'... and that's still using the base ISO 100.  The 430EXII is considerably stronger than the built-in pop-up flash.  The 600EX-RT provides even more coverage (60 meters).
The other VERY nice advantage of these external units is that the head both tilts and swivels.  You can "bounce" the light off a ceiling (the ceiling needs to be white otherwise the color of the ceiling will tint the color of the flash and create a color cast on your subjects.)  But this creates a nice soft shower of light on your subject so they don't get harsh / flat lighting from using on-camera flash.

  • Dual monitors issues with Built application

I made a vi that uses both monitors.  I set the run time position to the second monitor on one vi and the first monitor on the other vi.  The vi running on the primary monitor calls the second vi on the second monitor vi the Vi Server.  This works great when working in the development environment.
But when I build the application, the vi that is supposed to be on the second monitor, shows up over the vi on the primary monitor.
Did I miss a setting in the Application Settings??

  • Issues with headphones and speakers under Windows

Sound Card: Sound Blaster Li've! Value (Came with an older Gateway PC)
OS: Windows XP Professional with SP2
    Problem:
When installing Windows XP on a clean dri've(Fresh Install) I am unable to get sound from my speakers and headphones at the same time. After numerous testing I've determined that this is simply a Windows XP/SB Li've Value issue of some kind.
My temporary fix for this has simply been to switch my headphone and speaker plugs on my sound card with each other and go under the sound properties and turn off Digital output. Not a big deal just annoying having to do this.
I've had this card installed with Windows ME on my system and Windows 2000 and did not have this issue as described above. I simply turned on digital output plugged in both my headphones and speakers to the back of my sound card and had sound from both with no problems what so ever.
I read somewhere that switching the devldr.exe (which I actually tried) that was installed with windows over to the devldr.exe on the XP setup cd. This actually worked for a moment. Once I rebooted I no longer had sound from both my speakers and headphones.
What I'm wondering is if I could switch the devldr.exe with either the Windows ME version (not sure if it uses the file) or with the Windows 2000 version would this fix my problem, or has anyone had this problem and found a solution other then what I have stated?
    Thanks

  • Sound quality issue with 5.1 speakers and a g

I have an XtremeMusic sound card. I also have a 5. surround sound speaker system by Dell. After testing the system with the diagnosis tool before running NASCAR Racing 2003 Season, all speakers work. Center, right main, left main, sub and rear. After launching the game and getting down on all fours to listen, this is what I've come up with. In driver mode, only the two mains (right and left, no center, no sub, no rear) are working, thus creating the weak tinny sound at high rpms. Now, on replay, only the center works, no right, left, sub, or rear. There is no distortion on replay with the center speaker as there is in driving mode with the left and right. What is causing this? I've talked to other game owners with similar setups, and they say they are getting sound from all speakers during their play. Any insight would be appreciated.

"I thought maybe it was some kind of speaker problem but when i switched the 2 rear with the 2 front then the rear worked but front didn't."
Does this not indicate two of the speakers are not physically working? Or have a mis-interpreted?

  • Problem with OBI Apps v7.9.5 installation on WinXP SP2

We are attempting to install OBI Apps v7.9.5 on a WinXP SP2 machine. However, upon clicking the setup.exe file, we get the following error message -- Unable to load the launcher file index. Invalid file type in the index.
As a pre-requisite for OBI Apps, JDK 1.5.x and OBIEE v10.1.3.3.1 have been installed without any issues. Hence, not sure why we are getting the above error for OBI Apps. We have searched Oracle documentation, blogs and forums, but not found any reason or solution to this problem.
Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you..
Edited by: OBIGuy on Nov 2, 2009 1:00 PM

Thank you for the input. The contents of the installation directory are as below:
    Oracle_BI_Applications
    |- doc (folder)
    |- createResponseFile.bat
    |- installWithResponseFile.bat
    |- media.inf
    |- setup.exe
    |- setup.jar
    |- version_apps.txt
Before posting this query, I did run the setup.jar file. However, when the installation process reaches 100%, it terminates with the following error - */version_apps.txt does not exist*. Also, it rolls back the complete installation, so I do not get the OBI Apps files/directories such as DAC, dwrep, RPD, Web Catalog zip, etc.
As shown in the directory structure, this file does exist. My guess is - since I am running the JAR file and not the EXE, it is unable to resolve the path of version_apps.txt correctly and hence throws this error. Having gone through related blogs and posts, I understand that OBI Apps can be installed on Win XP SP2.
    Any inputs?

  • Java Plug-in not working with WinXP SP2 Registry Key Missing Error Pop-Up

I have WinXp PRO with SP2 and the Oct 12 Security Update Patch for SP2 loaded and I went to my Control Panel and saw that the JavaRuntime Environment 1.4.2_04 icon was missing and when I went to click the Java Plugin icon to Open it, I got the following message in a Error Pop-Up window:
The system cannot find the registry key specified:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java pPlug-in\1.4.2_04\JavaHome
I then went to Chage Access Program Controls and when I clicked on the Change box for the program, it wanted me to re-install the whole environment.
Prior to doing this, and potentially screwing up my MS winXp environment, I went to the Sun support page for Java Plug-in and I did get the dancing elmo appear as they said I would but I noticed that my environment was MS VM, not Java and that I was out of date and a newer update was avaliable.
The downloads page for the plug-in states clearly that it supports WinXp SP1 and NOT SP2.
SO, my question is, do I need to re-install anything or wait till the whole SP2 issue and java with (BITS) issue gets resolved and just use the MS VM engine during my browsing time? Is there a workaround and what impact will this have on my system? I am not developing Java Apps but am a Power user in Windows who is wondering if applets and general browsing might be easier, faster and more fluid if the Java Runtime was enabled as opposed to the MS VM solution?
Any ideas or thoughts on this very timely issue would be greatly appreciated as I see others have tried to post related issues but none that succinctly combines what I have asked for here in this post.
    Thanks from NYC -Phil
