Tecra A9 - Which F key activates the restore disk?

I need a Vista reinstallation on my Toshiba Tecra A9 and I've done one before, but forgot which F key activates the restore discs.
I've tried them all, but don't see anything I recognize. I found the BIOS for instance, and I see under F8 'restore your computer', and Safe Modus, but no choice whatsoever for formatting and installing by CDRoms.

Hi!
Please wait a moment: You have already reinstalled Vista but now you want to make a new installation again?
And what disk did you use for reinstall Vista?
If you have created the Toshiba recovery disk you have only to boot from it and follow the screen instructions. Then you get back factory settings.
But you can also restore factory settings if you use the HDD recovery option but this is only available if the original Vista from Toshiba is still installed. So if you installed Vista using a Microsoft disk you cant use this option.
Normally you can start the HDD recovery option on European notebooks if you go in advanced boot menu if you press F8 and then select repair my computer. Then it takes some time and a new screen appears where you can choose the Toshiba recovery option.
By the way, what Tecra A9 you have exactly? What is the PTSxxx code on the bottom side?
Bye

  • Restoring Vista O/S from Win 8.1 upgrade. Will the restore disks still work?

My HP G60 came with Vista. It has been upgraded to Windows 8.1 but the audio function has become non-functional. Is there a need for a new driver to solve this issue? If not, I am thinking of restoring Vista from restore disks. Can the restore disks still work now that it has Windows 8.1 in it?
    This question was solved.

Restoring with Recovery Disks with work and take back the system to Windows Vista. However, If you need drivers, please follow these steps:
    1. In the Run box type devmgmt.msc.
    2. Unknown devices would be listed as such and marked out with a yellow question mark.
    3. Select the unknown device or other device for which you need drivers and right click to access Properties.
    4. In the Properties window click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id  or Hardware ID from the drop down.
    5. An alphanumeric string like this PCI\VEN_1217&DEV_7130&SUBSYS_012F1025&REV_01\4&6B16D5B&0&33F0 is the identification marker for the device.
    6. Please provide this number so that we can suggest the appropriate driver.

  • Update my software with the restore disk?

    Hello everyone,
I am thinking of purchasing a new MacBook Pro and was wondering if I can use the restore disc to upgrade my OS 10.3 and my ILife 03 on my desktop G-5. I asked a technical support guy at MacMall and he said it would not work. He said the restore disk will only work on a MacBook Pro. Is this accurate? I know Apple probably frowns on this, but it seems to me that if I purchase a new computer, I should be able to upgrade my old software without having to purchase it separately.
    Dual 1.8 GHz. G5   Mac OS X (10.3.8)

    Thanks,
I was suspicious that the new MacBook Pros being based on the Intel chip design might require a slightly different software package. So the only way to upgrade the old G-5 is to purchase the software upgrades separately, right?

  • I was resetting my macbook pro 17 (early 2009) to factory settings but does not restore due to a problem with the restore disk. Please advice me on what to do next.

I was resetting my macbookpro 17 (early 2009) to factory settings but was indicating problems on the restore disk.  I erased my macintosh hd drive so the hd is empty.  What do I do next?

Get an external drive and make a clone of your internal, erase the internal, set it for 1 partition (OSX Journaled) and restore the clone.

  • How to select on which server to run the restore job?

    Hello gurus!
    We run OSB 10.4.0.2.0 (Solaris)
There are several media-servers in configuration one of them is temporaroly unavailable.
When I issue a restore job on the admin server it tries to be execured on that media server which is unavailable, see the output of lsjob -l:
    admin/3:
    Type: restore 1 item
    Restore to host: istore
    Media file number: 198
    Volume: OSB-CATALOG-MF-000014
    Restore original path:
    To path: /tmp/111
    Scheduled time: none
State: retryable at 2012/12/12.13:18 ("lsjob --log admin/3" for details)
    Priority: 100
    Privileged op: no
    Run on host: mxdb-fin-2
    Attempts: 0
I was unable to find any option which may tell OSB to run on istore server. Could you suggest any?

You could simply take the media server out of service which means OSB won't try to use it. When it is available again, you can put it back in service.
Or, you could restrict the backup to specific media server and tape drives.

  • My hard drive died on Mac Book Pro and I do not have the restore disk?

My hard drive died on my Mac Book Pro and do not have the resore disk?

do you have a backup of your data?  You can get the discs that came with your mac by calling AppleCare and giving them the serial number of your mac.  For a small fee, they will send them to you.

  • Restoring Backed Up files in the program from the Restore Disk 1

My computer was having some serious issues so i decided to restore it but before that I chose to backup some of the files.  It (the program that came with my HP) gave me several options of things I could choose to back up like emails, documents, photos, movies, etc.
I chose to backup emails, browser settings, documents, etc to an external source (a docked hard drive).  When th process was done I saw that a backup with a date listed was showing on the hard drive.   I then went about restoring my computer back to factory.  Afetr all was said and done, I updated my computer back to where it was initially before the resore than went about restoring the files I had saved or backed up I thought.
I went into the folder that was was saved and foound a program listed that said RecoveryMgr.  I clicked and started what I thought was the process to restore my emails, documents, etc.  It completed but I found none of the backed up items I had tried to save.  I only found a folder on my desktop labeled System Recovery Files - shortcut.   What am i doing wrong?  I need those files back.

This is the procedure to restore back up files:

  • I've lost the restore disk for my iMac OSX. Where can I locate one?

I want to restore my iMac (2008) to factory settings, but have lost original system disks. Any options?

    Call AppleCare and purchase replacements:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support visit online support site.
Is this for your purposes or to sell the computer? If all you want to do is erase the drive and reinstall OS X, then you can do that with your Snow Leopard DVD.

  • I have a Mid 2009 Macbook Pro 13 with no restore disk; it has OS 10.8.4 I believe there is something wrong with the OS due to I can not install flash player to view Youtube videos and the when we plug in a Bose headset the sound out will work sometimes

I bough a used Macbook Pro mid 2009 that came with OS 10.8.9 it didn't have a backup restore disk with S/N W8******66D
When trying to view some youtube videos; a window would pop up saying "it needs adobe flash player is required for video play back get the latest flash player" but after downloading the file and during installation would have errors and will not installed.....tried to reboot and install again.....but still the same.
The othe thing I had noticed is when using a good Bose headset with mic the sound output would noticed the headset and then switch from headset to Internal speekers and headset.....thinking that there might be something wrong with the plug in port of the computer or the headset.....the headset works with no issues on my iPad so there must be something wrong with the computer.....tried to move the plugin around the port but no change....while the headset is plug in can hear a short clicking noise and the sound would get lost and back again......but with nothing plugin to the port there is no issue with the sound or mic.
Thanks for your feed back......it looks like I have two different issues one is a software issue and the outher is a hardware issue

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

  • Re: Satellite L300-18D - How can I get a Vista Restore disk?

    Hi everyone
My laptop (Satellite L300-18D) was seriously infected by viruses, everything corrupted. I need to resinstall Vista but don't have the restore disk. After searching around I managd to download a restore disk from some site, but when I used this disk, it gave me an error code which meant the product key was wrong. I used the product key from the bottom of the laptop (I trust this is an OEM). So I guess I need a restore disk that will work with my OEM product key.
How can I get this restore disk that will work with my OEM licence?
Also, I tried to install XP on my laptop, but it kept giving me a message saying it could not detect the hard disk, there is nothing wrong with the hard disk, I have tested it on another laptop. Is there any sort of barrier o installing XP on this laptop which came with Vista originally. Is there a security meassure somewhere that stoped me from installing XP?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
The original Toshiba recovery disk can be purchased here:

Its not expensive as far as I know its about 30Euros

  • Power Mac G4 no iMovie and no restore disk

I purchased a used Power Mac G4.  It is running OS 10.4
The problem is that it does not have iMovie installed.  Online help states that I need the restore disk, which I don't have.  Is there a way to get it, or is there another alternative?
The other problem is that updating the software requires a password from the former owner.  The machine boots to desktop without a password, it's just needed for updating Safari.  Is there a way to reset that?
The machine is in other wise fine shape and I'd like to make it useful.
    Thanks,
    Jay

If you are in the US call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775, provide the Serial Number and specifications of the Mac, and for a reasonable fee, they will supply a replacement set of system discs (if available).
The discs will be for the original version of the OS that was pre-installed when the Mac was manufactured.
If you are in another country:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
Have you asked the vendor for the password?
iMovie is part of iLife. You should be able to purchase the relavent version on eBay or Amazon.

  • New hard drive, Leopard upgrade, restore disks needed?

    Hi
I have a macbook which shipped with Tiger and ilife 06.
Several months ago I upgraded to Leopard and ilife 08 - both great.
Now I want to upgrade my hard drive to a bigger one, so I just need a bit of advice please.
There is plenty of advice here and on the apple support site about how to upgrade your hard drive, but not when you have upgraded the OS.
The simplest way would be to use CCC to clone it, but I want a clean install. I hope that I don't have to use the restore disks, then upgrade both OSX and ilife - that would be painful!
    Anyway, here goes.
    I have a SATA enclosure.
What is the best way to proceed? Do I need either of the restore disks that came with the macbook, or do I just need the new Leopard and ilife (retail) upgrade disks?
I am happy with taking the old drive out (after doing a last time machine backup - just in case!) and putting it into the external enclosure and putting the new drive in the macbook.
Then, what is the best way to restore my data? Time machine? Migration assistant? Dragging and dropping everything? (what about preferences & settings?)
    Thanks for all your help.

Thanks - do I need the old restore disks that came with the mac at all, or are they just Tiger, ilife 06 and a bit of free software, therefore not needed. I am a little concerned that they contain some drivers etc that i might need.
I have retail disks of Leopard and ilife 08, bought separately.
    Thanks

  • Blue Checkered Screen after using the Recovery Disks

I have a Compaq Presario SR2034NX XP Media Center computer. I followed the instructions and installed all the recovery disks. The screen then said to remove all disks and that it's going to reboot several times to finish the installation. During this process I got a blue checkered screen. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I took a picture of what the screen looks like and I'm enclosing a link to the picture here.

Thank you for your help and time!

I run into the same problem with fresh installation of W7 Pro on T530 with 1TB samsung disk.
    This solution worked for me:
Running check for updates will trigger this error message:
“Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.”
    Solution:
    1.    Go to Administrative Tools/Services, and stop the Windows Update service.
    2.    Then go to the folder c: /Windows/SoftwareDistribution and delete all of the files and folders.
    3.    Then go back to Services and restart the Windows Update service which will recreate all of those folders again.
    4.    Then manually run the Update Service and everything should work.

  • Recover from restore disk I made to ssd

Can I restore my system to a ssd drive from the restore disk I made when I purchased my computer or will it not work on anything but a hard disk drive? The drive is a intel 330 model that I was using and got some corruption or something and need to reinstall the system. The ssd is smaller than the disk drive which is why I am unsure if it will work. I have read that it will not clone data to a smaller drive. I think I previously used the windows 7 disk to do a clean install. If I do that again I will need to reinstall the drivers and I cant get on the hp support site to get all the updated drivers because it is not working and has been down for a while. I can not wait for a month or however long it is going to take hp to get their site problems fixed. I need to get this laptop up and running now. Any help would be greaatly appreciated.

Erico I appreciate the reply. Good to know that it will work fron the restore disks. I tried the link again for the support site and it did not work for me. It just spinns forever and then finally stops with no results. Thanks for your help.
Try a different browser, perhaps Chrome or Firefox.
I tried Chrome and had no issues with the download web page.
