Tecra fan runs after laptop shuts down

I have a Tecra A8-S8314 that works fine and the fan works normally during operation. When I shutdown Windows XP Pro the notebook shuts down and the fan will then start and run at a fast speed. It will continue to run until either the battery goes dead or I hold the power button down for about 5 seconds. We have done a complete recovery including reformatting the hard drive and the problem continues. Any suggestions?

Just in case it isn't, then try loading a backup of the library. FCP X backs up your libraries about every 15 minutes. Backups by default are stored in ~/Movies/Final Cut Pro Backups. Look in there for a folder with the name of your library and try loading the most recent backup.

  • Why is Firefox continuing to run after I shut down the internet connection?

I am having a problem with Firefox not shutting down. I shut down the internet, then go back on later and I get an error message that Firefox is already running and that I will need to reboot my system to clear the problem. I am running Firefox 3.6.17 on Windows Xp with sp3. I tried running Firefox 4.0 and it just did not run at all so I went back to the previous version.

Sounds like it is hanging when you exit and later try to restart Firefox.

I recently installed XP SP2 for the first time.  Now, when I shut down Windows, the OS shuts down fine and the screen goes blank, but the computer itself keeps running for about 15 seconds.  This has never happened before.  Any ideas?

Try a more powerful power supply.  It normal rated load on the 12v rail is only 4.5 amps with a max of 16.

Really hope someone can help me with this. Not gonna bore you with the heart ache of how much I put into this project because I am sure everyone will hate this situation and know I how I feel.

The laptop turn off mid edit. So I put everything in my bag to go home to charge it. When I got in to reopen the project there is literally nothing there. All my footage and everything is there. But not one project. Zero. Just the events.
Anyone know why? And how to fix this? Or can it not be fixed!

  • Laptop shutting down? Fan overheating?

    Hi all.
I have read many topics on this forum about the fan on any laptop not working, the laptop overheating or the laptop seemingly randomly shutting down.
I have had this problem for about three months. I tried propping up the laptop so the fan (stupidly positioned on the middle of the base of the laptop!!) could get air. It didn't shut down, but it was ridiculous having to prop my laptop up everywhere I went, and fan was also ridiculously loud.
I took my laptop to a doctor and it turns out there was a fault with the chip on the motherboard that controls the fan. This caused the fan not to work properly, causing overheating, and the laptop shutting down.
I got it fixed and my laptop is now nice and quiet and I don't have to prop it up and it doesn't shut down.
Sorry if this is bad news! Hope you can get your laptops fixed!!

  • Laptop shuts down after sleep mode, help please!

When I close the lid or press the sleep mode button, my laptop goes into sleep mode and everything is ok. However, when I open the lid or press the power button to awake it... after a few seconds, my laptop shuts down! I just formatted my laptop to the factory settings hoping to fix the issue, but it persists. Please help!

When any problem persists after recovering to factory settings, it's often indicative of a hardware problem.

  • G575 - Fan stoped working, CPU overheats and Laptop shuts down

    Hello!
I've bought a Lenovo G575 three years ago, my warranty isn't active anymore.
The fan in my laptop stopped working yesterday, and now when I do something that is CPU intensive, the Laptop shuts down because of the overheat.
Is there a way to buy a new fan?
Should I open the laptop and take a look at the fan, to see if it can be fixed without changing the fan.
    Thanks for the replies.
    Solved!

Yes, the listed fan will fit your model laptop.

    jean156,
I am a little confused, you are posting in an iMac forum however your profile only indicates you have a MacPro. While I agree a SMC reset may help please carefully read the link The hatter provided because different Mac's have a different processes for resetting the SMC.
In the mean time you may want to update your profile (Your Stuff in upper right and click Profile) and also please post in the correct forum to avoid confusion.

  • My laptop shuts down immediately when i unplug the charger

Okay so I got my macbook air laptop about six months ago, so it's relatively new. About a month ago the harddrive inside failed and i took it to the aple store and they replaced the harddrive free of charge since i was still under the year warranty. I lost all my data since i didn't back it up but it worked normally after that. Now, about a month later, I'm having this charging problem. My computer charges very very slowly when its plugged in (i think it charged about 7 percent over like 15 hours), and the second i unplug the charger, the computer shuts down. I tried looking around the internet for solutions and some people with the same problem say they have like a red or black x where the battery is, but nothing looks out of the ordinary on mine except for the fact that it charges so slowly. In all the time that I've had and used it it's only gone fully dead and shut off by itself a few times (what i mean is that, i almost never let it go completely uncharged, when it was low on battery i charged it instead of letting it die). Also, when i unplug the charger, right before my laptop shuts down, i can see that the battery percentage without the cord plugged in is 0 percent even though that makes no sense because when the charger is in it says 85 percent. The only thing i can think of that I've been doing differently on my computer recently is that two days ago i couldn't find the wall piece for my iphone charger so i charged it via the usb port in my computer a few times. I didn't think this would affect my computer though? This could be totally unrelated, but it's the only thing i can think of that's different than usual. Also, the computer works totally fine when the charger is plugged in. I've had this problem for a few days now and i think it's getting worse. When it first started, the computer would only shut down a few minutes after i unplugged the charger, but now it shuts down within seconds of the charger coming out. I'm very hesitant to open the computer up because I'm not the best with computers and I'm afraid I might mess something up inside. If it really is a problem with the battery and it has to be replaced, I guess that's okay because I'm still under warranty, but I'd prefer if i could fix this on my own. Thankyou so much for your help and all answers are appreciated

Simple, You have a hardware problem that only Apple can fix. So you need to take it back in to an Apple store and have it fixed by Apple. If it is still within it's one year warranty period it will be free.
If you khaven't bought the Apple care Extended Warranty, Applecare, then I suggest you do that before the standard one year warranty runs out. You can't buy it after that one year warranty runs out and to fix any Mac out of warranty is Very Expensive.

  • Laptop shuts down when I start FCP

Two days ago in trying to resolve an issue (Which I did solve by reading and following another solution later) I "reset my computer's PRAM by doing the following:
    1.Shut down the computer.
2.Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3.Turn on the computer.
4.Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5.Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6.Release the keys.
This did nothing that I could notice....Anyway as I said earlier I was able to fix my problem by another means.
BUT TODAY WHEN I TRIED TO OPEN FCP... THREE TIMES IN A ROW THE COMPUTER STOPPED (AND TOLD ME TO RESTART MY COMPUTER by HOLDING DOWN THE START BUTTON FOR SEVERAL SECONDS....BLAH BLAH BLAH ERROR MESSAGE IN ENGLISH FRENCH GERMAN AND JAPANESE!!)
BOTTOM LINE IS THE COMPUTER GOES FROZEN WHEN I TRY TO START FCP
I suspect that reseting my PRAM as per above screwed up my instalation of FCP...?
WHAT IS THE SIMPLEST WAY TO GET MY FCP BACK UP AND RUNNING....
ALL OTHER PROGRAMS SEEM TO WORK FINE, I MOVIE, SOUNDTRACK PRO...FCP IS THE ONLY ONE I'VE NOTICED THAT CAUSES THE COMPUTER TO TELL ME TO RESTART...
IS THERE A GURU OUT THERE THAT KNOWS WHAT I SHOULD DO TO FIX THIS SOFTWARE ISSUE....?
    THANKS...

    Hi ,
I bought Toshiba Satellite P505-S8950 model 4 months ago.
I notice my laptop shuts down intermitently while straming videos especiaaly in 'full screen' mode and while using skype with video chat.
My laptop is still under warranty and I have not created any back up since I bought. Now,
Because system is unstable so doing back up now may not be useful.

I am running windows 7 home edition premium with 64 bit and RAM test after every restart is good so far.
Please can anybody help to the system stable and help my experience while browsing more enjoyable?
    Thanks.

I have European Satellite P500 almost 2 months now and use it with original preinstalled Win7 home premium 64bit. I use it daily for work and some multimedia activities. I also use Skype almost daily.
Until now I didnt notice any similar problem.
It is not easy to discuss about such problems because none of us know how you have configured preinstalled OS, which applications do you use and if there is some software conflict that can be responsible for this.
Have you installed something that can be responsible for this behaviour?
To be honest I cannot imagine you have had this problem from the first day. Maybe you should install recovery image again using HDD recovery option.
I dont know what kind of back-up do you mean but what you can do is to start recovery DVD creation.

  • Reinstall Wireless Every Time Laptop shuts down

So I have now had my Linksys wireless router up and running (sorta) for about 1 week.  Someone please tell me if this router is a piece of junk, or if all routers are so inconsistent?  Everytime my wireless laptop shuts down, I have to reload the set up again!  It's sooo frustrating.  I am afraid to update anything, or change any channels, because it took me hours upon hours to get it to work at all!  Any suggestions would help.
It's the WRT54GS router.  I'm beginning to beleive that it's a piece of junk , because I read, and read, and read about problems with it.

First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
However, your difficulty sounds like a problem with your laptop.  Download and install the latest driver for your wireless adapter.
After you setup the new driver, reboot, then go into the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use.  Delete your current network.  Reboot computer.  Then return to "Preferred Networks" and re-enter your current network info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".  Reboot computer.  It should login automatically, usually within the first minute (may take up to 3 minutes) after you boot up.
