Tecra M1: boots to Toshiba splash screen - then constant beep!

when 'switching on', the Toshiba splash screen appears, then nothing else happens. Any key pressed after that, just makes a constant beep. I purchased the machine from a dealer, 2nd hand (500) with XP Pro pre loaded, all updated etc, everthing worked fine till switching it on yesterday. This is my first laptop, and first time using this forum, 'be gentle please'

Hi Alan
I think what Nicky said might not apply to the M1. The trick probably works for Phoenix bios machines, but the M1 has Toshiba BIOS and will only enter the BIOS settings when ESC is pressed at a certain timewindow.
Back to your problem, you say the Toshiba logo is shown then othing else happens.
Most common is that the machine stops (but is still listening to keystrokes) when there is a problem to establish contact with the IDE-devices. The devices have a certain amount of time to respond correctly before the BIOS times out and gives you an error message.
Did you try to leave the machine like this for say 1-2 minutes? Did you look at it the whole time?
If not, please do. It is possible (although not certain) that you have a problem with either the HDD or optical device. Try removing the optical device from the Selectable bay. Any change to the problem? If yes, then there is either a problem with the optical drive or the IDE channel #1 (number 2 in human language). That means motherboardproblems.
So to clear it up and summarize: most probably you have a problem with either the HDD or the CD/DVD or the IDE channels on the motherboard.
The best way to check this is to look at the machine and wait some time and see if there is a timeout error message from the BIOS.
Good luck
Tom

  • Boot to Platinum splash screen then freeze

I'm suspecting the MB has gone south, but would like some assurances that I am on the right track and that I haven't missed something obvious.
    The system is fairly generic:
Antec Sonata Case w/stock 380W PW
    MSI MB
    A64 3200+  Stock HS&fan
    512Mb * 2   OZC RAM
    CDRW, DVD-rom
WD 120 SATA HD,  WD 40GB ATA
    SCSI card
    ATI 9800 Pro
Systems been running fine since July, today, needed to reboot after installing a printer driver and it froze on the reboot.
Before I cleared the BIOS it would come up with the BIOS version, and the processor description and then halt.  After clearing the BIOS, it comes up with the Platinum splash screen and halts there.  All the fans are going including the PS.
There is no response from the kybd, as in numlock/scrlock/capslock  don't respond (no lights on the kybd.)
I've tried the following in steps and trying to boot between each change:
     - reset BIOS
     - swapped out my memory sticks
     - disconnected the optical drives
     - disconnected the HDs, one at a time
     - removed the SCSI card
Have I thought of everything that I could try?  Does it sound like the MB is dead or is there a chance it could be the CPU? or something else?
    Thanks in advance,
    Zen.

    Contribute with some thoughts :
The board post bios logo , aka ' cpu works , gfx works . If not all would be dead.
    But it freeze :
This can be memory or memory slots e.g vdimm ref voltage to dimm slots duff(not in spec)
It can be parity check that bios post does on the memory.
It can be halt caused by "halt on all but keyboard" i.e PS2 , mouse , fdc controller .
When this cmos reset was done , was the board totally isolated , i.e
all devices removed including memory , gfx , cpu , drives , pci cards .
(if it's a bitch leave the cpu as the only item mounted)
I recommend clearing the motherboards cmos while it is totally bearbone
and also with the 20pin/4pin power connertors removed .
After it is cleared just connect 20pin/4pin power + cpu + speaker to it and the powerswitch (no mem , no gfx , no drives , no kb , no mouse ).
Fire up , and listen to the beep code , compare it to award beeps that its correct.
Shut down and add the mem .
Fire up , and listen to beep code , compare it to award beeps that its correct.
Shut down and add the gfx .
Fire up , and listen to beep code , compare it to award beeps that its correct.
Shut down and add the keyboard .
Fire up , and listen to beep code , compare it to award beeps that its correct.
Continue adding one item after the other .
    Codes:
    Repeating High/Low (siren):
CPU Either the CPU is not seated properly or the CPU is damaged. May also be due to excess heat. Check the CPU fan or BIOS settings for proper fan speed.
    Repeating (endless loop) :
Memory error Check for improperly seated or missing memory.
    1long, 3short :
No video card or bad video RAM Reseat or replace the video card.
    1long, 2 short :
Video adapter found but error .
Either video adapter is bad or is not seated properly.
    ..  , no luck here my guess is mobo gone bad .(if you are sure PSU still is delivering all voltages +3.3 ,+5 ,+12 , 5vsb , -5v , -12v and the PS_ON + pwr_good circuit/logic works)

  • Tecra A9 stuck on the splash screen

    Hello,
I'm new to your forum and hope to find help.
I have a Toshiba Tecra A9 stuck on the splash screen after my intervention in the bios to boot from a USB stick.
    _DETAILS:_
At the start, it turns more on the startup screen with the 5 symbol of choice (hard disk, USB, etc.).
Clicking on a symbol and nothing responds I can not enter the bios.
It is displayed at the top of the screen: In Touch With Tomorrow TOSHIBA and five symbols.
I disconnected two small green battery on the motherboard for 10 minutes, but nothing has changed.
That said, I do not know if I disconnected the battery good (y 'have it two?).
It also would it make a metal button battery on the motherboard?
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Alain

    Hi
If the notebook cannot pass the Toshiba Splash Screen then this means that the POST (power on self test) cannot be passed properly and this means mostly than an hardware part on the motherboard or the motherboard itself is faulty
Thats worst case since the mobo is very expensive :(

  • Portege M200 - Toshiba splash screen comes up and then nothing

    My Portege M200 doesnt boot.
Turn it on and toshiba splash screen comes up and remains like that. Nothing would work (Neither F2 to enter BIOS)
    Any ideas ?

    Hi
    > so to solve my keyboard problem best option is to get a USB keyboard & continue testing the laptop , right ?
I think the F1 button would leads you to the BIOS.
If you are not able to use the internal keyboard, then you should replace the internal keyboard or should use an external one (USB keybaord).
Press F1, check the data and time, save the changes and try to reboot the unit.
PS: possibly the CMOS battery was empty and you should recharge it again. In order to do this, you have to run the notebook for about 24 hours connected to AC adaptor.

  • Computer will boot to splash screen then reboot

I have a small problem with my new computer.  During startup my computer gets to the splash screen  then it will reboot.  It does this every time.  I have tried booting into safe mode but is does the same thing.  Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
    Specs.
    Win 98
    AMD 1800 XP +
    KT3-Ultra-ARU
    256 megs DDR
    40 gig Maxtor
    40 gig Western digital
    Aopen GF2 400mmx
    300watt CSI power supply

Measus is absalutley correct in the second possiblity on the list. You have a corrupted registry. In order to fix it..you are going to have to boot to dos either with your Win98CD or a Win98 boot disk. Preferably with a boot disk, because it allows more functions when you need to access your hard disk. Get to a C:\ prompt and change directory to C:\Windows or whatever else your Windows installation directory might be...then use the 'scanreg' command like so...C:\windows\scanreg.exe /restore
This will tell the Registry Restore program that you wish it to scan for backups of your windows registry and restore it to a previous "good" version. Just choose one from a date when you know that your system booted fine and choose to restore from that date. Reboot the computer normally after the restore has finished. If it still doesnt work, try the same thing again from a different backup date..If it still doesnt work..you can either manually edit the system.dat and user.dat files from within Dos (really not fun if you don't know exactly what your looking for) or reinstall (dirty install)overtop of your existing Win98 Install. Your Data and Programs will not be lost..but the programs will have to be reinstalled to function.

  • Toshiba Satellite stuck at Toshiba splash screen.

My computer has been fine for roughly 5 years. Today, when I plugged in a USB stick, it started hitting me with endless "N:\ cannot be found" type messages. I went down to my taskbar, disengaged the usb stick, unplugged, it and restarted my laptop. It is now stuck at the Toshiba splash screen.
    I have tried:
    - Taking out battery, holding power button, returning battery, and powering up.
    - Entering BIOS (won't work - just beeps and freezes)
    - Entering boot menu (won't work)
    - Booting from Windows CD (just stays at Toshiba screen)
    - Booting from a Live Linux CD (same, just won't...)
I am officially out of ideas and on the verge of just putting the HDD into a case and drawing files from it using a different comp. Any last suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, the HDD is not the cause. In fact, it's now being used on another machine and is working perfectly. The computer does this even with other drives in it, and without a HDD at all (when it should at least go past the splash screen and say no drive or OS is found).
I still cannot get into BIOS or the boot menu, and it won't boot from a CD or USB drive. I wanted to try resetting the BIOS by reseating the CMOS battery, but it's soldered down and I don't want to risk trying to drain it with wires (a common resort that risks hurting the mobo).
I think I amy try taking it to some awful repair shop before giving up. Any other thoughts?

  • How can a laptop be started without seeing the Toshiba splash screen?

As the title indicates, when I burned a copy of Windows 7 home premium to an ISO from Techverse, (never had an offical recovery partition on my L875-S7208) I never have seen the Toshiba splash screen, it only bots to the Windows 7 splash screen, which means I cannot enter BIOS...can anyone help track down how I can achieve this?

    Satellite L875-S7208 Specifications
    Satellite L875-S7208 Support Page
The BIOS must set in 'Fastboot' mode. Fully shut down your unit, press and hold down the 'F2' key at the top of your keyboard, and then power the unit on, while still holding the 'F2' key down. You should hopefully then be able to enter the BIOS Setup, disable 'Fastboot', press 'F10' to save and exit.
I would strongly recommend you investing in a set of Toshiba Recovery Media for your model. You can order it here.  This will rebuild the HDD recovery partition, reload Windows, and install all the drivers and software your system came with when it was new. Just follow the directions on page 67 of your 'User's Guide'.
Let us know how it works out. Good luck.

  • Premiere ele 11 get splash screen then nothing

    Premiere Elements 11: Version 20120921.B275.435760
    Dell Latitude E6430
    Intel Core i5-3210M @ 2.5GHz
    RAM 8 GB
320 GB SCSI drive with 30% available
    Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 bit
I have been using APE 11 for over a year now with no difficulties.  Yesterday I installed a new Logitech kb/mouse and trackball and APE quit working.  It will start the splash screen then completely stops with no error message.
I watched task manager/processes and can see the APE process start and then it goes away as soon the splash screen disappears.
I uninstalled the Logitech drivers, rebooted and no change.
Next I deactivated and deleted APE and scanned with PCMatic, Malware, REGPRO, and Hit Man Pro. All are run from the local drive.  No problems out of the ordinary were found.
I rebooted the computer then downloaded a fresh copy of APE 11 from the Adobe website.
Installation was done with virus checker and firewall turned off.
I am still having the same problem.
Photo Elements and Lightroom both are working fine.
Anybody have a suggestion.  I have two client videos that I need to produce and more coming so I cannot afford to get behind.
    Thanks
    Dave

    Dave
Let us cut to the standby deleting the Premiere Elements 11 Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole 11.0 Folder in which it exists.
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    11.0
and in the 11.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements 11 Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 11.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path cited.
When the splash screen (Welcome Screen) appears, do you see a progress bar with the features being loaded or nothing? If you do see this activities, on which feature does the loading activity stop?
We will be watching for your progress.
    Thank you.

Add On...have you looked at the issue with and without the antivirus and firewalls disabled? I know that you had them disabled during installation. A ccleaner run through (regular cleaner and registry cleaner parts) may be indicated.

  • My iphone 5 screen has been cracked. Black Screen. Constant beeping.

My iphone 5 screen has been cracked for a few weeks but worked fine. Yesterday the screen went black but Siri still worked. When I plugged it in to charge, it started beeping as if i were constantly unplugging it then plugging it back in. At first the screen would light up even though it was black but now the screen wont light up at all. I ordered a new screen to replace it but now I am thinking that it is more than the screen. I plugged it in to my computer and it doesn't recognize it at all. Use the same cord to plug it back in to the wall and it starts beeping again. Could the screen cause all of this or is it a bigger problem? Please help!

Agree with the comments of FelipeV the crux of the matter is that mpeterson329 abused his phone.
Also agree with the below comment:
Peter GillespieSep 1, 2014 9:18 AM Re: My iphone 5 screen has been cracked. Black Screen. Constant beeping.

Have you dismantled the iPhone in any way yet ?

  • White screen and constant beeping

I have a 2011 macbook pro.  This morning when I powered it on all I get is a white screen and constant beeping sound.  The beeping goes away after about 2 minutes.  Then there is a folder with a flashing ?.  Is this something I can take care of at home or do I need to take it in to an apple store?

I noted that nowhere in that article is beeping mentioned.
Instead of seeing the Finder or the login window after startup, your computer may stop responding and the display may only show a persistent gray screen (you may also see an Apple logo, spinning gear, spinning globe, prohibitory sign, or a folder with a flashing question mark on it). Note: The below steps may not apply if a blue screen appears during start up.

  • L512 Wont Boot , Splash Screen then stuck blank screen and Fan in full throttle

I was using the laptop, then it went to suspend mode due normal timeout.
When it came back, the fan start to spin full throttle but it was functionating  beside that, normally.
I restarted but then it never boot again.
This is the process where it gets stucked
Boot to Splash Screen, Beep, then a black screen and the fan start to spin at full speed.
(In the post in diagnostic mode, shows no error, pass the memory check, shows the info of the processor )
    I tried this:
    Retired Hard Disk,
Press 60 Seconds  (Reset BIOS) - without battery and power cord
Press 10 times the power button an then 30 seconds -- without battery and power cord
Visually there is no damage in the usb ports, maybe i  will need  to disassembly to get a better view to check if there is a short somewhere.
With this symptoms , what should else i try.  Could be a memory issue?
Thanks for any help you can provide me.

    Thanks to the Mod!
It happens that if i wait for about 30 secs, then it will boot up, asking a proper boot media.
I was testing it  and was workiing fine, except  for  the Fan working at full speed, Not suspending or shuting down or Hibernate. Only blinking power button led. So a rude disconnection /Battery Extraction needed to acomplish full shutdown.
But Now in the bios diagnostics splash shows
    2201: Machine UUID is invalid
The bios shows only 0s in the uuid section.
i was looking for some imformation about this problem, and i found tah can be solved using some kind of floppy for servicing the laptop.
I ve already downloaded a copy, Havent tried yet, But plan to do some test. as soon i can get some spare time.
It appear tha some comand will let me regenerate  the UUID, and with some luck, reflashing the bios will solve my problem.
I'll update as any new steps performed

  • NB200 freezes at Toshiba splash screen.

    Hi,
I have an NB200-11L that's been sitting around with an annoying problem for a while now.
When I power on the laptop it freezes at the 'Toshiba - leading innovation' BIOS splash screen and goes no further.
I get the same problem with or without AC power
I've tried replacing the HDD but still get the problem.
With no HDD in the system it tries to boot from the network & also allows me access to the BIOS (currently version 1.20)
Anyone else had issues like this & been able to resolve it ?
    Thanks in advance :)
    Chris

Few days ago I saw the same problem on my friends Satellite A205 (US model). After removing HDD I was able to enter BIOS settings.
Ive set BIOS to default settings, replaced the HDD with new one and now everything works perfectly.
HDD was defective and obviously HDD identification by BIOS has blocked the whole system.
I recommend you to obtain new HDD and do the same.

  • Toshiba C675-S7200 Stuck on Toshiba Splash Screen

When trying to boot the laptop up it freezes as the "Toshiba Inspiring Innovation" spasl screen... I removed the HDD and it will boot up into the BIOS, however when I reconnect the HDD it refuses to boot up past the screen again, nor will it show the BIOS while the HDD is plugged in, any suggestions?

Have you tried plugging another hdd?
Maybe yours is malfunctioning and that's why it freezes at splash screen, remember that BIOS check all devices before starting.

  • IdeaTab A2109A will not boot past Lenovo Splash screen

Tablet was charging over night, early in the morning I heard a couple of beeps, and thought it was my phone.  After waking I turned on the Tablet and first saw a green circle with 100%, then after trying the power switch again, it booted to the Lenovo splash screen with the audio and color bar, but will not boot to the operating system.

I gave up and sent the Tablet into Grapevine, Texas under warranty.

  • Ideacentre B520 won't boot past Lenovo splash screen after windows updates

This happened about 2hrs ago with my B520. Was working perfectly fine before this. Performed Microsoft updates as suggested, system prompted a re-boot to complete installation, system never came back completely. Only begins to boot and stops at the Lenovo splash screen at the very initial stage of boot. It never moves beyond the Lenovo Screen even after holding the power button and forcing shut-down.  Someone please help!! Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

First try and see if it's not a lenovo little bug that happens to a lot people:
Disconnect the pc from power for like 5 minutes or longer.  Then try to boot, see if it works again.
if it doesn't boot as normal yet , still let it be for at least 20 or 30 minutes to see if it boots after that.
