Tecra M11-11L: BIOS udpate to get power on display on both screens?

Is there a BIOS update that allows me to select "BOTH" as an option for the Power On Display?
Currently it only lists Auto-Select and Internal.
Auto-Select only outputs to the external screen if one is connected.
I need to set the default as output on both screens.
Older Toshibas do this. In fact, every other Toshiba I've used has this feature.
As a presentation/hire/conference laptop, this is an important feature.
And yes, I've updated the BIOS to the latest version.
Thanks
Ben

No, there is not such BIOS update which would add this option.

  • Power Button Displays a Black Screen

After upgrading to OS X Mavericks, when I press the power button it displays a black screen. I'm assuming this is sleep mode. Before upgrading, pressing the power button would display a window allowing me to choose whether I wanted to restart, shut down, etc. Is there a way to get this functionality back? Is anybody else having this problem?
    Thanks.

This is a feature of Mavericks.  If you hit the power button it puts the system to sleep.  If you hold the power button for a couple seconds, it will display the menu that you are looking for.  Also, due to the ATX compliant hardware, if you hold the power butto for about 10 seconds, it will hard power off the system without performing a clean shutdown.
I am not aware fo any System Preference setting to change the behavior of the power button under Mavericks.  There might be a method to control it via a command line setting, but I haven't spent the time to seach for one once I learned that I can just hold the button down for 2 seconds to get the menu.

  • Getting Images to display on entire screen

Hi, I need help with a problem that I'm sure there must be a easy solution to, but I've not been able to figure it out.
When I open a word document or Photoshop file, I'm used to having it open to cover the entire screen on my video monitor on my PC. On my powerbook, it only opens a portion of the size....even when I show it under the "FULL SCREEN" sizing button on view. Can someone tell me how I get documents to display on the full width of my monitor.
I know that there must be a simple setting or fix for this...but I'm struggling to find it. Thanks in advance.

There's no easy solution. It's been said that Apple wants the green button to fit the window to the contents, under the reasoning that on today's larger and wider screens, filling the screen with one document is a waste of space. But that rationalization is faulty, because some screens are still lower resolution where filling the screen would still make sense, and also because the green button is implemented extremely inconsistently, even in Apple's own apps. There are a few applications, like Apple Mail, where clicking the green button actually does fill the screen. But you can never predict which ones will do that.
Photoshop is easier because it has its own full screen mode on the toolbar, or press F.

  • Keep getting an odd display on the screen.

In almost anything I do, I keep getting a little pop-up like this:
    and sometimes like this:
Is there any way to disable it? It doesn't happen on my other iMac.

    Hi sapper,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on exactly what you are describing/showing, and/or when specifically this issue is appearing. Based on your pics, you appear to be showing the Dock icons for Finder & Safari (as well as a printer). If this is an issue with the Dock and when it is displayed, you may find the information in the following article helpful:

  • Can I use split screens on and extra monitor I have. I can get mirror image on both screens, but not a split screen. The monitor is 1600 x 900.

Can I use split screens on an extra monitor I have? I can get a mirror image on both screens, but not a split screen. The monitor is 1600 x 900 AOC 20inch monitor. Hope I haven't wasted my money buying this £69 monitor. My 13" Macbook Pro is a little small for my ageing eyes. Thanks

In the display settings on your computer uncheck "mirrored". This will put the displays in "extended" mode. In extended mode you can set the external display to its native resolution as well as drag windows from your computer to the external monitor. I assume that is what you mean when you say "split screen".

  • Re: Tecra M11 cannot access the BIOS

I have a brand new Tacra M11-11L machine. I have set a password on the BIOS but cannot now access it at all. When I switch it on I get the Toshiba splash screen, i press the escape key and am presented with a little note saying "F2 for Setup". I press F2 and the screen goes blank, i get a underling cursor flash three times at the top of the screen and then it boots into windows. I need to change a setting that is not covered by HWSetup. I can get into HWSetup with my password but it is not use to me!

    In my case this worked!

    Hello
I have following Toshiba Tecra model :
    Toshiba Tecra M11-15W
    Part/Model No. : PTME0E-03J02SEP
Problem is that i did not use this notebook for some time and forgot Bios password i set. Now i need to re-install windows (its corrupted) but i cannot make my notebook to boot from USB or from DVD. To access that menu i need my Bios password.
Is there any way i can flash it or reset or something like that ? I tried everything already, i even wanted to get inside my laptop to find that Bios battery and remove it, but i am affraid that i will break something...
i can remove the HDD and install windows on another PC and continue install on the notebook , but still i need that password reset...
    Thanks in advance !!

You cannot expect that we here, on Toshiba user forum, discuss ahow to remove BIOS protection.
With other words every stolen Tecra M11 can be accessibe for everyone.
Theoreticaly every notebook thief can just post here and get exact info about removing BIOS password. You know what I mean?
Either try to find solution Googling arround or contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

  • Tecra M11: How to get 1080i/p from DisplayPort?

I've hooked up my Tecra M11 via a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to my digital TV but it seems like the best it can do is 800x600!! (WIndows XP)
How do I get 1920x1080 out of this laptop?
    Remove Intel drivers?
    Add newer Intel drivers?
    Patch from Microsoft?
Is it possible to also output HD audio over this port?
Other laptops with HDMI ports can do all of the above, why can't the M11?

Display Port is the successor to HDMI and will eventually start appearing on TVs and other A/V equipment in the coming years.
The evolution has been VGA -> DVI -> HDMI -> DisplayPort.
The Tecra M11 has a mini-display port adapter in lieu of HDMI as do many other current model laptops today. It does not have a HDMI adapter (or even a mini-HDMI adapter, as found on some digital cameras.)
Adapters are available that convert from DisplayPort to HDMI and mini-DisplayPort to HDMI.
If I connect a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to the laptop, the best resolution that I could successfully view via the cable was 1280x720 (720p). It is not even possible to select 1920x1080 with the output set to "Digital TV" (the maximum resolution is 1600x900). If I say that it is a "Monitor", then it lets me select 1920x1080 but video is only generated at 800x600 and no other resolution.
It's hard to say whether the limitations here are being imposed by the driver from Intel or the actual hardware itself.
    Which model do I have?
    Tecra M11.

  • Cannot access BIOS on Tecra M11-11K after Supervisor password has been set

    Hi there,
I've got 10 laptops Toshiba Tecra M11-11K here and they all have the same problem. If they turned on and I enter the BIOS to make adjustments for the first time, it's fine but if I want to return to BIOS after couple of restart (or even one), what happens when I press F2 is that the screen flashes and computer restarts. It does it on all 10 laptops. Anyone knows what to do with that? Flashing BIOS means I have to setup all of them before I can do that, which is a bit of a drag and I don't have guarantee it's gonna work. :/
    Thank you,
    J

    Nope.
When I removed the notebook from the box, I entered the BIOS to change the BOOT order (Network First), setup Supervisor Password and changed SATA to Compatibility mode. Then I saved changes and rebuild the notebook from a WDS.
When done I wanted to change the boot order to HDD only but everytime I press F2 to enter BIOS, the screen only flashes with a blank screen, and computer restarts and I'm back at the Toshiba logo (the one you see when you turn on computer) and that is happening everytime I press F2 to enter BIOS.
It only restarts and comes back with Toshiba logo. Press F2, it restart and Toshiba logo is up again. :/
I tried to update BIOS, but no luck.
I can enter the BIOS only once, when unpacked from the BOX. After that, no chance. 10 laptops have the same problem.
    Model Toshiba Tecra M11-11K (PTME0E).

  • BIOS password removal on Tecra M11-11M

I have a Toshiba Tecra M11-11M which has been password locked. I have stripped the notebook and removed the BIOS battery for 10 min but the password still remains ie on the screen it still reads PASSWORD- ****.
There is no way to enter the BIOS via any key combination.
There are no markings or letters on the motherboard whatsoever ie: C35-C36 or J12-J13 to short out which would in most cases remove the password and allow access to the BIOS.
Any techies out there with any ideas would be much appreciated.
Some people asking for help with a bios password are not thieves but just forgetful fools.

As far as I know Toshiba uses several methods for BIOS password removal. On business machines like Tecra or Portege the method is not the same as on Satellite models.
BIOS battery removal maybe works on desktops but not on mobile machines.
Mobile machines must have better protection due to fact that can be pretty easy stolen and it is very important to prevent fraudulent use.
    > Some people asking for help with a bios password are not thieves but just forgetful fools.
Thats correct but you cannot expect that BIOS password removal method will be described on public forum. Contact nearest Toshiba service provider and they will do this for you. All you must do is to show valid bill and prove that you are real owner of this Tecra machine.

  • Tecra M11-11J - cannot install Windows 7 64bit

Tried to upgrade a Tecra M11-11J to Windows 7 64-bit.
The install gets as far as the 'Loading Windows Files' screen, then goes blank and freezes, with the CPU fan maxing out but no HDD activity.
Have tried reinstalling XP (works fine), reflashing the BIOS to the latest version, re-seating the RAM, changing the HDD to 'Compatibility' mode and reinstalling Win 7 - same problem.
Have tried Win 7 32-bit - same problem.
Install from USB, instead of DVD - same problem.
Different flavours of Win 7 - same problem!
    This is extremely frustrating.
I upgraded the memory to 8GB, hoping to take advantage of this with W7x64 and now I'm stuck with an XP machine and 4GB of RAM going to waste.
Would be very grateful for any suggestions.
    Thanks.

If the IT guys dont have an idea why this happens, I guess this will not be easy to resolve.
Fact is that Tecra M11 was preinstalled with Win7 32BIT PROFESSIONAL system.
The CPU Intel Core i5-430M processor which is built in the notebook supports 64bit too. Therefore it should not be a problem to install, run and use the 64bit version.
    I recommend you trying this:
Go to BIOS, set it to default (F9), additionally change to AHCI mode.
    Save the changes.
No search on Intel page for Intel Rapid Storage Technology (Intel RST) driver.
Add this driver during the Win 7 installation setup (F6)
But if this would not be possible, I guess there is something wrong with your Win 7 disk
As last option could be the installation on Win 7 using USB port.
You would need to create an bootable USB flash memory stick containing Win 7.
Check some step by step instructions in the net

  • Tecra M11 - Random Crashes with Windows 7

We have a Toshiba Tecra M11 running Windows 7 which has a problem in which it randomly crashes, forcing the user to hard reboot it. When it crashes, the fans spin up, not sure if this means anything. We've tried many things to fix it.
At first we thought it may be overheating, which would explain the fan, but the laptop got through a 24 hour stress test absolutely fine with normal temperatures. The laptop also isn't necesarrily doing anything stressful when it crashes We also tried reinstalling some of the main drivers and also intalled the newest (2.60) BIOS but still the same problem.
It crashes up to 2 times a day, but can also go some days without crashing. It's a very strange problem and we'd very much appreciate a fix for it.
    Thanks
    George

I just posted this answer on another thread. However, for me, the following worked. The laptop was locking up at least once a day with no clear cause since I bought it.
I've been trying for the last few weeks to get a fix for this. However, I've removed the fingerprint reading software and disabled the fingerprint reader in device manager. This appears to have finally fixed the issue (fingers crossed, one week no crash). I'd also removed Toshiba reeltime and eco utilities but had less success. The various BIOS updates have not helped.
All the latest drivers were installed. I also rebuilt the machine and could not get a crash from it with the factory build though I didn't setup the fingerprint software. USB connections also seemed to have a bearing on stability, though everything has been fine since the fingerprint reader was crippled.
    Hope that helps.
