Tecra M2 - Will not boot up, power light is on

Hi, I wonder if someone out there could help me with a problem?
I was using my M2 on Friday when my friend accidentally knocked a very small amount of soft drink onto the front of my M2, I immediately put it upright and got a hairdryer on it.
After leaving it an hour I tried using it and everything was working as before which was a great relief, however a day later I was using the M2 to check my e-mail when all of a sudden in went off.
The power light is on was still on and so was the light that indicates I have a CD drive slotted in, I tried many times and it would not boot up, so I left again for a day and yesteday morning it looked like it was booting up only to freeze on the Windows screen, it then did it again and it hasn't booted up since.
Could anyone please give me some advice on what I could possibly do to fix this problem?

Please be realistic. What you can do in this situation? Not much! You can try to start the unit. See if you can enter the BIOS and if yes how long the unit stays ON. If the unit works for a longer period you can try to boot up from CD (for example with recovery media).
You can try to connect HDD as external one to other notebook and try to save all your important data and install OS again. More than that is not possible. If there is some electronic malfunction it is not easy to fix it on your own and helps just technical investigation to see which hardware component is damaged.

3400c will not boot/ green power light remains on

Strange thing happened. We lost power while I was away and when I came back my 3400c was on (the green power light was lit) but it will not boot, shut down or power up. Will not respond to the power button or force quit keys. I tried removing the cd drive, the battery and unplugging but when I reconnect the power all that I get is the green light. No internal noise, won't boot. Also, I tried pressing the reset "button" in the back and the green light will flash but nothing else happens. It hasn't been my main computer for awhile and I no longer have it connected to the internet but it is nice for the kids to run their cd games on it. Anyone have any idea on how I can go about troubleshooting this laptop.

I've done a ton of tinkering with my 3400c, and currently am having fun installing Linux on it. Through my adventures with this thing, I've occasionally seen the stationary green light.
I'd recommend removing what's in the media bay, and any PCMCIA cards, unplugging all components and removing the battery.
Disconnect the unit from power and press the PMU reset button on the back, and hold it for several seconds.
Let the unit sit for about 10 minutes, just to be on the thorough side. Then reconnect the power cable (no battery/media bay necessary). What SHOULD happen is an immediate boot chime.
If the issue persists, you might try booting into open firmware:
Hold down Option + Apple + O + F, and press the power key on upper right of keyboard while holding these keys. Hold them down until you (hopefully) see a grayish-white screen.
If so, type these lines, return after each one:
init-nvram
set-defaults
reset-all
If all goes well, should reboot normally. If not, you may have a hardware issue on your hands. I'd try disassembling it and removing debris, looking for loose components or any point of failure, but if not you may require a new logic board. Luckily, either a 3400c or Kanga G3 board will work with these models if that's the case. (Only caviat is that the ram that originally came with some 3400c models will not work on the Kanga logic boards).

Can you run Apple Hardware Test. In you case it is not so much to see what it finds but to see whether you can boot it at all.
Or try a safe boot.
It may be time to take to apple for repair.

Tecra 8000 will not boot-up

My Tecra 8000 will not boot-up (was previously working fine).
1. The red "TOSHIBA" icon comes-up and then it just "grey screens" on me.
2. I can boot up to the A: drive using a boot disk, and I can see the hard drive (C:\) and it looks OK.
3. I checked the BIOS settings (ESC, F1) and they look OK.
4. I have Windows 2000 installed.

It seems that the notebook passes properly the Toshiba screen.
In this case there should be no problem with BIOS or hardware.
Did you switch possibly to the external screen? I would recommend connecting the external display to check if something will appear.
But if it doesnt help so possibly the corrupted HDD could be responsible for this issue.
Did you try to boot up from the CD? Can you see something?

Xserve will not boot up, all lights flash rapidly

Just bought a lightly used Intel Xserve. This unit was in a business that failed, and was set up, but never used. Was powered off and unplugged for approximately 18 months. When we tried to plug it up to check it out & configure it, we noticed the following:
System will not post and won't boot
Hard drives do not appear to spin
CD Drive appears to have no power - will not grab disk
All fans do work, and run on high RPM
All lights on back of server and front of server, as well as next to SDRAM slots, and on back of main board flash / flicker (regular quick flashes, no pattern evident). The only light that does NOT come on at all is the light next to the power button.
Anyone heard of a similar condition? Is this server toast?

I'm sorry to say I don't have a solution, but I can commiserate.
I have a G5 and two G4's, and so far within a few days / couple of weeks of getting them home and getting them up and running, they seem to fail.
Usually spectacularily.
The G5 operates very much as yours in that power on, fans rev high, and no post or other activity; I don't get any system light status action however other than flashing. I've replaced CPU's and logic board on this.
The single CPU G4's does much the same, but this I've had up and running and then it went down when I upgraded the memory to max (very careful to make sure it was within Apple spec's), and despite swappinbg the original memory back in,nothing.
My latest, a dual core G4, was bought in working order, and I upgraded this from 10.4 to 10.5. Running nicely as a internet gateway. Went away for weekend so put it into sleep mode. Came back, power button on front panel stopped working, and one of the raid slices on the system drive failed.
Tried to repair this and system now no longer boots, but freezes on loading OS (spinning disc stops in mid spin) and it will not boot from installation disc via firewire or internal DVD drive (swapped in a replacement to ensure it works). The installation disc stops at the apple splash screen, but goes no further.
I can, helpfully, get into Open Firmware mode, so something is working on some level. Sadly, I can't seem to find a copy of the Apple Hardware Test for this machine (see my post on this) to check it out.
I can tell you that I'm getting very adept at working with Xserve hardware, if not very effectively.
My working hypothesis on this is that there is some issue with these units being used 27/7x365 for however long, and then being left 'off' for a prolonged period.
Thinking that whilst they are designed to operate reliably as constantly on and working under load, so facet of being 'off' breaks 'something'.
If really pushed to go out on a limb, I'd theorise that under load the electronics/IC's settle into position, but then when switched off things cool down, contract, and causes weaknesses in electrical connections to occur. When next used, these then start to fail, giving a pattern of initial operability followed by delayed failure with a cascade of increasingly servere symptoms until terminal failure is reached.
But that is wild, uneducated, conjecture.
So, no help, but I comiserate.

Macbook PRo will not boot, MagSafe adaptor light does not work !

Okay... so i have this issue with my MBP where it will not power up.
The light on the magsafe does not show up at all when connected to the MBP. I have tried another magsafe but failed. I have not tried another battery so im not sure if that is wheret the fault lies.
Ive tried the SMC reset holding the power button down for long, but still no result. However, i left the MBP disconnected from the magsafe and went out for the whole day. Came back, connected the magsafe and thought id try again. I held the power button for 10 seconds and the MBP started booting. It wasnt the normal boot im not sure if it was performing some sort of safe boot, but it was doing something, the screen turned transparent white, restarted and i could finally log in. The battery was very low so i left it on charge with magsafe.
One thing i have noticed is that sometimes i wont get the light showing on the magsafe but it may still be charging at that point.
This morning i wake up and its the same issue all over again. It must have stopped charging or something as i left the MBP on with magsafe connected. Now it will not turn on no matter what i do.
If i tilt the magsafe connector at an angle i can see a dim green light but then id have to hold it in that place to see that light.
Please advise on what i should do next. Excuse the long story !

HP G62 Will Not Boot With Power Cord Plugged In

I have an HP G62 laptop that is about four years old. I've had a couple of problems with it before that were resolved relatively satisfactorily, however five or six months ago I started having a new issue. The laptop will not boot with the charging cord plugged in, whether there is a battery in it or not. Nor will it return from sleep mode (screen black, status light on the power button flashing) with the charging cord plugged in, whether there is a battery in it or not. It simply shuts down and I end up with an error screen the next time I boot up. I have tried other charging cords and it has been the same, however the cord will still charge the battery. This means I have to charge the battery, unplug the cord, boot up the computer. This annoyance is worsened by the fact that the battery is old and unable to hold charge for very long at all and I fear one day even the battery won't be enough to boot the computer.Can I fix the power cord issue? Should I buy a new battery? Or let my computer give up the ghost and scrounge for a new one? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My apple tv 1st gen will not boot up the light just keeps flashing yellow

I turned the power on to my 1st gen apple tv about a week ago and the indicator light just kept flashing yellow it would not boot up I tried unplugging it letting it cool and plugging it back in, I left it plugged in for the day and it still wouldn't boot, I listened for hard drive clicking there was none, I looked at the Ifixit teardown and saw what looked like a CMOS battery, I've had a pc before with the same symptoms and replaced the battery and everything worked fine after. If anyone can provide a second opinion it would be much appreciated.

MS-7345 (P35 platinum) will not boot (red standby light)

I shut down today and went to boot back up again and nothing happened. I opened up the case to find that the red standby light on my motherboard was on but nothing was happening when I tried to start it up. I have tried to use my reset switch instead of my power switch to see if it was that but that does nothing too. There are no beeps or anything like that. I have even removed my graphics card and memory to see if that will help but there is no luck. I have checked the cpu and no damage appears to be there also the same with memory and other components as well as everything on the motherboard. What is happening?

Power supply might have gone so try another one that is powerful for your system.

PC will not boot from power up

Since I purchased and fitted a new MSI K7T266 Pro2-U Mobo , the PC won't boot up from power on past the Win98 startup graphic. When I hit the reset button, it boots in safe mode, and will reboot OK after that, except that the memory show is only 256 mb , when I have a 512 mb Dimm . Also the PC is very unstable. After ready thru your other posting, I purchased a new 300 Watt PSU, but this has made no differance. I played around with all possible wiring combinations from the PSU to my devices, but no joy. Any ideas ?

Mac Pro will not boot. Power led just flashes

When I start up, the HD spins but then the power led starts flashing at a constant rate. It also never gets to the gong. I tried everything on the support pages.

It would be helpful to be more specific about the flashes such as the sequence, timing, etc. So, you will need to examine the above and its links to see if you find something descriptive of what you have.

L505D-GS6000 Will not boot

My Satellite L505D-GS6000 will not boot.
Power indicators on front turn on (including battery light), I hear the DVD drive spin up (empty), but the screen remains dark (no BIOS info), and the HD or wireless lights never light (not even flicker).
I have done the following with no change:
removed the battery and tried with just A/C
removed power cord and tried with just battery
removed and reseated HD
removed and reseated RAM
Tried with one RAM card (tried both, one at a time, in each slot)
left overnight with power off
Also, I do hear the fan run when I turn it on.
Your help is appreciated, as I am unemployed, and cannot afford to have it serviced (and my resume, email, etc. is on the HD).

There's not much else you can do. If you have an external monitor, you could try connecting it to see if it'll work. It's possible that the LCD went out in the notebook. Of course, this won't fix it, but it might let you still use the computer.

I have a powerPC 8500 that will not boot up. Lights come on, drives spins up and nothing. Any ideas? It has been sitting in storage for years. I would like to get some info off it.

If you wish to do further testing to insure it is the PRAM battery at fault before ripping into the computer, there are a couple of things that always worked for me if the battery was really the problem:
1) Zap the PRAM--cold boot and immediately press and hold these four keys simultaneously:

option
p
r
Keep holding until you here a total of three (3) startup chimes, then let go the keys. NOTE: In some Mac models, the second and third start-up chime tone during a PRAM zap can be rather quiet. Either crank up the volume, do the zap when the room is quiet, of use headphones to be sure you are hearing teh tones.
2) See if the computer will boot from a system disk by holding c during boot. The disk can be a full retail install disk, a system restore disk supplied with the computer, or a utility disk like DiskWarrior or TechTools that allows booting. If the computer boots and you get video, you can feel confident that the only thing needed is a PRAM battery. You can do a hot boot back to the hard drive and the computer should work as long as someone doesn't unplug it again.
However, if neither of these work, that can mean something more sinister than a PRAM battery has gone walkabout.

One of our Mac Pro's will not boot. When pressing the power button the light will come on briefly and the Mac will just turn off again.
I have unplugged the power cable and held down the power button for 10 seconds but this did not help.

Most indications from flashing power lights are telling you that there is not enough working memory to start up.

And, don't think that just because it was two teaspoons and not a glassful that there is a difference.
Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).
Do not put in a bag of rice in as much as rice will get into the ports and optical drive and do further damage.
