Tecra M3 - black and white dots

Im problem with My Tecra M3,
I get the Toshiba logo come up fine.
Then a bunch of black and white dots, (its windows when has crashed and gives you option in safe mode) but you cant make out any of the text, I only know this because Ive delt with computers crashed before.
When windows XP SP 2 starts up basically there are white bar like dots vertically up and down the screen.
Then finaly goes blue screen of death and restarts.
I have changed HDD with my old operating system so its not a virus, Ive taken out the ram, which is 2 x 1gb sticks.
Ive tested them individualy and together yet I still get the same problem I mentioned above when I start my computer.
So its not the HDD or a virus, its not the ram, what is the problem here? The monitor looks fine with the toshiba logo (no dots up and down)
What do I need to fix it ? Whats broken?
Anyone who can help much apprciated.
cheers

  • Many small black and white dots on LCD

    I bought macbook pro 2 months ago, the 2.33 ghz core 2 duo wid 2 gig ram and ATi Radeon X1600 xt gfx card. Recently i noticed small black and white dots cluttered in one place. The rest of the screen has about 7 - 8 independent dots, I feel as if they are increasing day by day. Is there any permanent solution to this. I contacted the apple support and I'm waiting on their decision.

    Thanx, but I think this is more of an hardware problem. Since its on the screen, I tried to take a screenshot, but the dots were not on the image. I have searched many times, it seems many people have this same problem, I think its the dead pixels, but this too much.

  • Tecra A6-EZ6411 - Video picture is squished and made black and white

    After a recent update to Windows 7 I am having an issue with viewing pictures in Windows picture viewer and watching netflix videos. I can watch and file on my computer without issue. I can also view a picture in paint.net or any other picture viewing program. I can watch Hulu or any other cable company site without problem. What happens is the picture is squished and made black and white.
    So the first thing I tried was uninstalling silverlight and then reinstalling. The next thing I tried was booting into base mode, uninstalling all nvidia drivers then reinstalling the latest driver available. Neither of those fixed those problems. Weird thing is when I first boot into base mode and the resolution is 640X480 the pictures look normal in Windows picture viewer and when I try to watch a video on netflix it looks normal. Only when I change the resolution to anything else does it revert back to the old diplay of a shrunk black and white view.

    Install Win7 again, disable automatic Win7 updates and every time when you get message about available updates install important updates only. Before you start update installation check the list and be sure nothing strange will be installed.
    My notebook also has NVIDIA graphic card. I still use original recovery image with Toshiba driver and everything works well.

  • How do I print a booklet with a colour cover but with black and white inside pages?

    Hi there,
    I need to print a large amount of booklets, which have a colour cover but are grayscale on the inside. However, I am having trouble setting up my document to successfully do this and I am unsure if it is something I can change in InDesign or if it is something I should figure out with my printer driver?
    We used Page Plus for these booklets in the past and were able to do this with the same printer, so that makes me think there might be setting I could change in InDesign to achieve the same result.
    It integral that the printer knows that the inside pages of the booklet are black and white, as we get charged per copy for colour printing and it is vastly increasing our printing costs.
    My coworker believed that exporting the file as a PDF with the options: Colour Conversions (convert to destination - Pressure Numbers), Destination (sRGB IEC61966-2.1), and Profile Inclusion Policy (Don't Include Profiles) is making a difference. However, I don't believe is is the case.
    If anyone had another suggestion that I could try, that'd be great!!

    @Eugene – do you have details for "Export as Grayscale"?
    I tried with the following details:
    Target-Profile: Dot Gain 15%
    Convert to Target Profile
    Include Target Profile
    If I do it this way I get:
    Target Profile not included
    Wrong numbers for my colors
    (I tested with a self-made color wedge on the page for the percentages of Black shown below)
    Seen in Acrobat Pro 10 with proof simulation "Dot Gain 15%":
    100 % Black => 100 %
    80 % Black => 82 %
    60 % Black => 63 %
    40 % Black => 43 %
    20 % Black => 22 %
    I could convert to "Dot Gain 15%" in Acrobat Pro's Preflight Panel, but this would show the same wrong percentages (just tested).
    What I can do, however, is printing to PostScript with color separations, only color channel Black.
    That would work, if I chose a Distiller setting, that will not change the color, to convert my separated PostScript file to PDF.
    Seen in Acrobat Pro 10* with proof simulation "Dot Gain 15%" or any of the other available gray scale profiles.
    (Acrobat Pro 11 might get this wrong due to a bug)
    100 % Black => 100 %
    80 % Black => 80 %
    60 % Black => 60 %
    40 % Black => 40 %
    20 % Black => 20 %
    This separated PDF (channel Black only) can now be converted with a self-made correction* in Acrobat Pro's Preflight Panel to a gray scale PDF/X-1a.
    If done right * the color values stay as defined in inDesign.
    Output in my case:
    PDF/X-1a
    OI: GrayScale profile Black ink of ISO Coated v2 300%
    Tested with:
    InDesign CC 2014.2
    Distiller X
    Acrobat Pro X
    Mac OSX 10.7.5
    Uwe
    * There are several, convoluted steps necessary to get this (hope, I can remember them all):
    Not optional:
    Have a grayscale profile representing the channel Black of your intended output CMYK or generate one!
    In my case the base CMYK profile was: ISO Coated v2 300%.
    And I got a "Black Ink of ISO Coated v2 300%" profile for Grayscale conversions by generating this with my PhotoShop app.
    Maybe optional, but helpful:
    Change the color settings of Acrobat Pro X to use the color settings file you generated in PhotoShop where:
    Grayscale is defined as the black channel of ISO Coated v2 300%: "Black Ink of ISO Coated v2 300%"
    Mandatory, but somehow tricky:
    Then on to the Preflight Panel of Acrobat Pro to generate a custom preflight profile.
    None of the ordinary ones will fit exactly (at least in my Acrobat Pro X).
    1. Make a duplicate of an already stored Preflight profile that converts color to Gray. Name it appropriately.
    2. Include a single correction for converting to Gray Scale (at this time, or if you do something like that the first time, it's not possible to change or duplicate that single correction)
    3. Save your new profile. Close the profile.
    4. Open the profile again.
    5. Now, suddenly it's possible to duplicate that single correction (converting to Gray Scale).
    Do some changes, appropriate correction options, eg. adding "Black Ink of ISO Coated v2 300%" as OI to the PDFs you will convert.
    4. Use that duplicate single correction in your new Preflight profile.
    5. Save your custom preflight profile.

  • PSE Elements 9-convert to black and white not working.

    I recently bought my wife a new HP computer with Windows 7 64bit and Photoshop Elements 9 to go with it. She has not had any problems up until today.. It seems when she attempts to convert a picture into black and white, photoshop freezes up. Sometimes it will convert the image but most of the time when you go to Enhance--convert to black and white,  the little photo of what you want to conver that is on the right hand side of the screen just fills up with dots and then nothing appears on the work area.At that point you cannot close the application or anything else with out Ctrl.alt,delete. I have tried to change the programs compatibility to Windows Xp service pack 2 and 3 as well as running as admin but it does not fix this problem. As far as I know this only occurs when she tries to convert photos to black and white. What can we do? Is PSE9 not compatible with Windows 7 64?

    Suggest that you delete preferences:
    Preference settings control how Photoshop Elements displays images, cursors, and transparencies, saves files, uses plug‑ins and scratch disks, and so on. If the application exhibits unexpected behavior, the preferences file may be damaged. You can restore all preferences to their defaults.
    Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift immediately after Photoshop Elements begins launching. Click Yes to delete the Adobe Photoshop Elements settings file.
    A new preferences file is created the next time you start Photoshop Elements. For information on a specific preference option, search for the preference name in Help.

  • Printing as Black and White

    We recently upgraded to X, and have noticed that the Black and White setting for Grayscale is gone. I looked around in the forums and found the suggestion to "Convert to black and white in the Fixups" but my Fixup menu does not have that option- I have options to convert to CMYK and Grayscale, but not Black and White.
    We need this option to run film negatives- any Dot Gain percentage as the grayscale setting gives us a dot pattern. Is there any way to get this option back? Otherwise we're kind of screwed. I also tried to install Acrobat 9.3.0, and the Black and White option is also missing on there, even though it's available in 9.5.0 on my other Mac (10.5.8)
    Using a Mac, Lion 10.7.3, Acrobat 10.1.1
    thanks!

    Hi Val,
    Try choosing File > Print.  Click the 'Printer' buttom at the bottom. Change the dropdown from 'Layout' to 'Quality & Media'.  Check the grayscale button here.

  • Can't import Scanned Black and white photos to iphoto

    Issue : When importing a *Scanned, Black and white, jPG* image to iphoto get an error message
    Error message stats " The following file could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format.)
    Solution: Im not an expert but I think it's the scanner driver and the color profile it uses. Changing the color setting to RGB or color or changing the file type from JPG to Tiff may help. If you have already scanned the photos or if changing the settings do not help the follow the instructions to fix the photos.
    1. Locate the Remove.app Script
    Location is : Macintosh HD - Library folder - Colorsync Folder - Scripts folder- Remove script
    2. Select all of the photos and drag and drop the photos on top of the Remove script. The photos will immediately be ready to import to iphoto and will still be the same location they where dragged from.
    Tip: place the photos in a folder on the desktop then select all ( command-A ) the photos with the issue. This may make it easier to drag and drop onto the Remove script

    Gail:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The reason you're getting that black thumbnail and full sized image is that iPhoto does not support the grayscale profile Dot Gain 20% that grayscale scanning embeds in those photos. You're best bet is to scan them as color. They will still look the same but have the RGB color mode and sRGB color profile that iPhoto can support.
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
    Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Black and white colour profiles LR4 to CS6

    Yesterday when I opened a black and white image from LR4 to Photoshop CS6 they opened as RGB-sRGB, today after doing an update to both photoshop and camera raw they now open up with an embedded profile mismatch of gray gamma with the option to change the working profile to dot gain 20%. I don't recall seeing these options before, looking in edit-colour settings I don't have any options to change to RGB.
    I can of course change the settings to RGB in image-mode and also in edit-convert to profile but this would be a real pain to do this everytime I want to work with b/w.
    Hope this all makes sense, I'm not an expert with all this colour profile stuff but have to submit all my files to camera club competitons in sRGB...
    help needed please...
    Thanks Stuart

    i am having the exact same issue, except i noticed that if LR4 is set to send raw files to PS6 with a ProPhoto RGB color space then it will do so, whether the file has been made into B&W in LR or not. But when LR is set to send files to PS with AdobeRGB (1998) color space, it will send any raw files that were made B&W in LR with a gray gamma 2.2 profile instead. is this intentional or is it a bug?
    i tend to use AdobeRGB (1998) for my color photos, because I find it converts colors much more easily when making prints or converting for web, whereas with ProPhoto, since it's showing you colors that can't be produced on a print or a web file, sometimes the colors will change drastically when printing or making web files. i'd like to keep it sending my files to PS with the AdobeRGB (1998) color space, but it seems really limiting to be editing my B&W photos in a gray color space

  • Black and White Charts

    Is there any way to make my line charts black and white? I know there are several stroke options to make dotted lines, but there are only four and I need five. As well as the legend is not accurate.
    Thanks!!

    Orange,
    The standard Legend only indicates the symbol, not the line type. You can make your own custom line Legends using Text boxes and Line Shapes. If you have chosen to use the same symbol for all your series, or no symbol at all, this is your only choice.

  • May i know the right photoshop cs6 color settings to print black and white?

    hi
    in photoshop cs6 64bit under windows 7 sp1 64bit i got
    gray Dot gain 15%
    spot  Dot gain 15%
    i did a clean install of photoshop cs6 , i guess they are the dafault
    may i know if they are the right settings ? i print with my printer and in a lab with an epson printer
    thanks

    Ask the lab but I'd be shocked if they asked you for a grayscale document, assuming this Epson is for output of photographic images
    they work with psd files and jpg
    (but the when i save a photo edited with for example an adjustament layer(black&white) photoshop convert it in a grayscale image ,isn't it?
    but photoshop should warns about mismatch profile ,should it? or does it work only with color space
    Dot gain would account for whatever dot gain you're aiming for on the press, so you'd have to ask.
    Gamma would be used for output to an emissive display, so something like 2.2 to mimic sRGB behavior might be one option
    . but may i ask a question?
    because i guess i'm confused now
    Gray and Spot settings are related only to convert from rgb to mode grayscale
    or these settings influence what i see in the monitor when for example i add a black and white adjustament layer?
    by the way gray and spot set both at dot gain 20% , are the dafault?
    thanks

  • Black or White Dots appear near borders when using QuickTime  Help me pleas

    Hi, please check out the following two pictures:
    http://snipr.com/1q3xv-kzgfh9
    http://snipr.com/1q3xw-mmpcn1
    The first link is a screenshot of the QuickTime Player playing back a movie, and the second one is VLC playing the same mocie. You'll see that there are black or white dots clustered around the border of objects in the picture. Animated or not, the dots still appear. The dots always just DISPLAYED in the past, but while using Submerge yesterday the dots were passed on into the file I produced and ended up on the DVD disc I burned.
    This started sometime after Tiger was released and I can't stand it anymore. The same problem does NOT occure with VLC playback. Could anyone PLEASE shead some light on this matter?!
    Many Thanks,
    Jim
    P.S. I have QT Pro

    QTKirk,
    Thanks for the reply!
    No, I'm not using .Gifs. I'm using AVIs, but ANY video file that QT can play will display the "spots" while the same files won't in VLC.
    Does this sound like the same problem? Links below:
    QT: http://snipr.com/1q3xv-kzgfh9
    VLC: http://snipr.com/1q3xw-mmpcn1
    Problem in Submerge (which uses QT): http://snipr.com/1ptx3-itpu2k
    See what I mean? It's not just the QT Player. It's all apps that use QT.
    What do you think?
    Thanks,

  • Creating black and white charts with patterns in Pages?

    Hi.  Does anyone know how to create black and white patterned charts in Pages (or other iWork application)?  When making Charts in Pages (i have the most recent version), you can make all sorts of colored charts (bar charts, histograms, pie charts, etc.), but in preparing doumnets for publication i need all my charts in black & white.  I can make histograms and bar charts using different shades of grey no problem, but i'd like to create histograms using black and white "patterns" like dots, horizontal lines, stripes, etc.  Does anyone have any idea how to do this, or know where existing patterns can be downloaded for import into Pages?
    Many thanks.

    Don't export it as a .jpeg which is unsuitable for B&W images, blurring them as rgb files (not B&W).
    Better is .tiff (compressed B&W tiff are tiny) or 1 bit .gif.
    It is also possible that .pdf vector files might work but I haven't experimented with those.

    The subject has been discussed here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2136106&start=60&tstart=0 and apparently the problem is fixed with OS 10.6.3.
    But I'm using 10.5.8! Thanks.
