Tecra M4 : Fan Speed under Windows Vista

Hi there,
after upgrading my notebook (Tecra M4, 2GB RAM, 64MB GeForce) to Windows Vista, the Fan (on the left side) seams to run permanently - right after booting Vista. Of course, I have installed all current drivers and tools and the newest BIOS (3.30).
I also tried to optimize the Power settings in Vista. Here I finally found the "new" Toshiba PowerSaver (btw: the old PowerSaver Tools in XP are much better!!).
- Somthing I noticed: If I set "Cooling Method" to "Battery optimized" the fan will stop for a while, but I think that this is not the solution??
The CPU temperature is about 43C (checked with Notebook Hardware Controll), but RivaTuner says that the GPU Ambient Tempature is about 127C (which I cannot believe because GPU Core Temperature is "only" about 62C). But also 62C is quite high for the GPU - issn't it? (it only has to display Vista's Aero Glass)
So I think my Problem is the GPU (temperature, driver, ...?)
Any solutions on this - or is the solution switching back to XP?

I just had to have my main board replaced because the video went dead (nvidia 6600 128M).
My problem started very similar, the main CPU fan would run more than it should have.
What I discovered was:
1) Even when the air fins are clean and clear as viewed from outside the PC, it is in fact 40% blocked on the fan side.
2) The second fan sitting on top of the video chip set was clean and didn't run often enough. This was later found to apparently be related some how, to the fact that the heat sink on the video was totally dry (no thermal grease ever applied).
Now with the new main board and all the fans clean (and grease on sinks), the PC runs quiet and the fans run occasionally. The PC is noticeably much cooler when placed on my lap for long periods of time.

  • Photoshop Elements does not start under Windows Vista

The Twain-Module of my Canon CanoScan FS4000US Filmscanner works only under Windows Vista (no newer OS!). Fortunately I own an older Notebook with Vista as OS, so I have PSE Version 5.0.2 installed and use it to import my old color negatives via the twain module. Fine! It even works with 42 bit. But suddenly, PSE refuses to start and freezes at the window loading the libraries. At this stage it can only be stopped with the help of the task manager. A little search in the internet informs me that I am not the only user with that specific problem. Any help from Adobe?

After a view days of searching a found a solution: I installed the MS Visual C++ Reditributable für Visual Studio 2012 Update 4 (both 32 bit and 64 bit) and now Photoshop Elements runs without any problems.

  • Mini SAP 7.01 under Windows Vista

    Hi every one,
I wanna share my experience with you for installing version 7.01 under Vista. This might help you.
I have installed the newest version ([Message from Klaus Keller| of Mini SAP under Windows Vista and, believe it or not, it all went correct. It is important that you download version Netweaver 7.01, since previous versions are not supported in Vista.
In the download section (http://www.sdn.sap.com/downloads/netweaver/abap/disclaimer.html) you find in file part 1 the description of process in a HTML & PDF file. You must pay much attention to what is described there; otherwise, it might happen that the installation process is not sucessful.
I´m not gonna describe the whole installation process. This is already in the download files. Just a reference of what I did:
1 ) make a backup of your information and have your Windows Vista disk at hand. It might happen that you have to format the computer´s hard disk if something goes wrong (this happened to me a couple of times in previous versions of Mini SAP and Windows XP). This is so, because it is impossible to erase some files and information in the registry (even with the Registry Clean Tool that is also downloadable in SDN). A new installation try was hopeless in those versions.
    2) shut the firewall and antivirus off before you start.
    3) don´t try to name your computer using special characters like - _ / & % and so on; additionally, name should be max. 13 characters long.
    4) you need a user account for windows, even if you´re the only one to use the computer and you must assign a password to that user. You need it once you start the server through the SAP management console.
    5) Install the Microsoft loopback adapter
once installed, system names it LAN-connection2 and you must asign a permanent IP address. Press button characteristics for its element Internet protocol version 4, where you enter:
    IP-Address 10.10.0.10
    Subnetwork mask 255.255.255.0
Don´t touch element Internet protocol version 6 !!
    6) file hosts under c:windowssystem32driversetc --> add an entry for the host like this:
    #Inicio de insercion
10.10.0.10               jalonso           "<-- this is my computer´s name and host name
You must have administrator rights and change the status write-protected for being able to modify it.
    7) Process takes less than 1 hour, mostly without user interference.
    8) if desired, install Adobe LifeCycle Designer before starting with SAP GUI. It happened to me once (Windows XP) that the installed SAP GUI was erased during installation of LifeCycle. It all then turned into a big mess and I had better to format the hard disk.
    9) install SAP GUI on your computer, which is part of the downloaded files.
If installation was sucessful, it might happen that you experience a problem when starting the application server (start --> SAP Netwaever 7.01 --> NSP --> Start application server). You get a red screen with a couple of error messages ([read my post|;). It is not a very serious problem, ´cause you can start the server with the SAP management console anyway.
Hope this helps you when installing Mini SAP 7.01 in your computer.

I am having a heck of a time with this install.  My OS is Windows Vista Ultimate.
I've read and re-read several forums and tried all the recommendations.
I've tried installing many time now and each time the install runs to 19% and I get a message " stopping Xserver".
Then it runs to 20% and I get a message "preparing packages for installation".
Then it runs for about 3 seconds and I receive the following:

  • Image.getScaledInstance() does not always work under Windows Vista

    Hi:
I've run into some intermittent image scaling problems under Windows Vista (minus Aero effects) that I never experienced with the same program, same image(s), running same Java version under XP. The images I'm using are all JPEGs, and the problem appears to affect approx 1 out of 3 grayscale images (no color ones so far) w/o respect to size (ie: small ones can be problems while larger ones will work). Java -version shows 1.6.0_02-b06. I was wondering if anyone else out there has seen this, or can point out what I may be doing wrong. Sample code to duplicate follows.

That does indeed appear to be a bug. I looks like it's having problems with the alpha value in the color model, so a possible workaround would be to change the color model the image uses before scaling. This may entail creating a new BufferedImage and drawing the old image into it.

  • I want to install Adobe PageMill 3.0 on my laptop which runs under Windows Vista but cannot because the original input was on floppy discs, and I don't have a floppy disc drive.

Is Adobe PageMill 3.0 still available? I use it to run three websites but it does not run on my new desktop which has a 64-bit operating system. However it would run on my laptop which runs under Windows Vista. But the original installation was from floppy discs and I do not have a floppy disc drive.

I am sorry Lcosahedron I am not aware of a download location for Adobe PageMill 3.0.  It appears it was discontinued in 1999.  You can find more details at Adobe PageMill - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

  • WRT54G v8.00.2 - DSL Internet Running Half Speed Under Windows XP

    Hello all,
I have a rather bizarre problem with my WRT54G v8.00.2 or with Windows XP and was hoping you guys could help me troubleshoot? Anyways, here's what's going on:
    1. I have a Dell Latitude D620 notebook with Intel 3945abg Wireless Adapter dual booting with Windows XP Professional and Windows Vista Business. The system is a 1.86ghz Core 2 Duo w/ 2.0GB memory. I can connect to the internet fine under both Windows XP & Vista, however, there is one small problem. Under XP, the wireless speed is 1/2 the speed of the DSL connection. Under Vista, download speeds & speedtests (www.speedtest.net) work full speed. Hard wired into the router under XP or Vista runs full speed. I have Embarq 5.0mb/768k DSL connection and have had no problems with the connection. I am running the latest firmware on both the DSL modem (EQ-660R) and the router (WRT54G v8.00.2).
    2. I have an Apple Macbook that runs full speed (5mb)on my wireless.
Do you guys have any idea on what I can troubleshoot? I have run into this issue at one of my customers businesses where they have a WRT54GS and we're experiencing the same issue on XP machines. Is XP limiting wireless speed? Thanks so much to everyone in advance for their help on this issue.
    Mark

After some research, I found Speedguide's TCP Optimizer. I ran it and set the software to the speed of my DSL connection (5000kbps) and set it to Optimal settings. After this, my download speeds are what I expected. Thanks.

I think the unbiased readers at this forum should take notice of this fact.   The original person who posted this question raised a question that was of a "rudimentary" nature.   I will repeat that point again, - the question was of a rudimentary nature - not even fundamental.     The replies to this individual were less than courteous.
Take notice that the people who are "associated" with NI felt my post was inappropriate but did not seek to criticize the "rude" responses to the original poster.   Again, my point, the NI associated people are not criticizing their colleagues but rather the "customer".
The point I had made is not wrong.   Operating systems are designed to input and output data.    Every O/S can input and output data.
This type of program was written for just about every O/S before to my knowledge.  The people who replied negatively with regard to this generality cited an exception rather than the rule.   I will repeat again, they cited an "exception" rather than the general condition.  This is a standing fact.
The public should take notice of the point that just saying someone is "wrong," does not make the individual "wrong".
To be exact, when you say someone is wrong, you must support it with facts.
You will notice that I could argue that my statement was theoretically true and be theoretically correct.  But I will not.  In deference to "civil" communication I will say that an exception may exist to my initial statment - in order to assuage the "feelings" of the NI associated people who replied "negatively."    Thus, leaving the NI associated people a "moment of repose", to stand back, and fully consider what they have written.
The "NI associated people" are "outraged" because I used the term "simple" to describe the task at hand.  "Simple" is a relative description.    This task is fairly simple if you are a programmer employed to design, create, and operate, the operating system.
I will concede that this may not be a simple task, if you are an "outsider" looking in  (a programmer with no inside information from the OS designer).    However, even if you are an outsider,  and you are employed by a software company, this will be one of the company's fundamental assignments that it will have to naturally pursue.   You have many hours per day to look into this assignment.    In addition, a team of programmers has probably been tasked with this assignment - making this assignment much easier.
The measure of complexity is now measured over how much time the individual has been afforded to look into the assignment.
    The current condition:
VISTA O/S in "programmer design time" is now an old operating system.  It is now 2 generations behind the current OS.    Therefore, the time frame to find a "working" remedy has spanned many, many, years.   I will repeat again, the time frame to find a working remedy has spanned - years.
This is where my analysis becomes irrefutable.  Here is a link which substanciates that a "solution" was found a long time ago by National Instruments itself:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/496CD7613F331EA4862571E200633507
    They looked into this.
What I don't like about a lot of technical support people is that instead of looking at the facts as they stand, it appears that some tech support personnel will together as a group, and agree, that if the question raised by the novice appears to be too difficult for them to answer, they will put down the person raising the question.    This is a rudimentary question that all beginners must raise.
Some tech support people can just e-mail the person the solution (because we know a solution exists) and tell the person the "pitfalls" of using the program and tell the individual, "use at your own risk".
Instead of just, posting the program source code, or e-mailing the code to the "customer", they just publicly put him/her down.
Instead of "thinking as a group" and convincing themselves that they are in the right, they should just step back back for a moment, get out of "group think" mode, and consider what the customer is asking for.
"I want a simple one, or a simple zero, out of a port"  or
"I want to read stored data at an io port address" (not "streaming data")
does that really "sound" like too much to ask for.
      To be fair:
With regard to accomplishing this task, it might be a lot to ask for depending upon the "artificial" complexity that has been designed into the OS.
But does the task at hand really so "sound" difficult.
The point I am trying to make, the replies were not balanced, nor considerate, to the customer.
The points I have made in this discussion do not reflect upon all "NI associated" programmers".    There are many courteous NI programmers and courteous NI "associates" my comments do not reflect upon them.    I am by no means making a general statement, nor have I made a general statement, referring to these people.
If I have offended anyone with my replies,  I apologize.   I believe in being courteous, honest, and fair to all those whom I correspond with.   Please try to understand the points I have tried to make - they are "balanced."

  • Fan running high, Windows Vista

I - finally - have Windows Vista Ultimate running properly on my MacBook Pro. But I notice that after I use it for about 10 minutes the fan starts to run high/fast.
    And solution?
    thanks - Otto.

Install InputRemapper. That will insure that the fans run at a minimum 1000 rpm to keep things cool and heat doesn't build up.
Install SpeedFan to monitor the thermal sensor temps - unfortunately it doesn't automatically control fans as it should.
Otherwise, seems like something is causing system to run hot, and for me, it always took hours before I saw that before I started using InputRemapper.

But I am not confident that there isn't more to this, like resetting the power or system management control unit or something.

  • Executable Code Speed Vs. Development Environment Code Speed under windows 7

    Hi,
I implemented a "closed loop" type controller in Labview 2012 running on windows 7 to control a motor speed. In my code, I have a main loop that first measures data using a PCI daq card, and then processes the data, and then output data to another PCI daq card. The main loop is set to run at 100Hz. So, 100 times a second I read data, then process the data, then output new data. I am using the Input daq card timing to sync the main loop to 100Hz. When I run this code in the Labview development environment, it seems to run just fine and is able to keep up with the 100hz loop time with no apparent lag. but when I create an executable and run it (on the same machine), it initially appears to run at 100Hz but soon after that it starts to slow down to about 10hz or less. This is causing issues with my motor control. I set the priority of the application under windows task manager to real time (which is the highest option available) to force Windows to let it run as fast as possible but it didn't seem to help much. I compared using a while loop and a timed while loop and found that the while loop ran faster when creating the executable. Any thoughts on what to do to make the executable run faster and why does this happen?
    Thanks

    Can you post the code?
A wild guess is that there's some array growing wildly causing memory issues, and if you let the program run for a while longer it'll crash with out of memory error.
Is the program only supposed to feed data from one card to the other?

  • Impossible to connect the iMac in WiFi under Windows Vista

    Hi;
First I apologize for my bad english.
    Now, here is my problem.
My iMac 24" running under OS X 5.6 connects itself perfectly in WiFi to my CometLabs WRM42 ADSL router in Mac mode. But i'm not able to establish the same connexion in Windows Vista mode.
According to Windows troobleshooting, linking router and Mac with a cable permits the connexion to work and continue to work after pulling out the cable. But the connexion is not again possible without cable after a restart of the computer.
Many thanks to whom will give me the solution.

I suspect that you need to install/reinstall the correct network drivers.

  • My 5th Generation iPod will not sync under Windows Vista

Wow.. I finally got registered on this forum, took ages lol.
Well I've got the latest version of the iTunes software and I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium.
When I connect my iPod, it detects ok and then iTunes starts to sync it.. after about five seconds or so I get an error stating I do not have sufficient privelages to update the "My Music" folder, and thus my iPod will not update. Immediately after this error I check device manager, and a "USB Mass Storage Device" is detected with an error state (a yellow exclamation mark next to it). I can delete this from device manager, re-connect my iPod and it will do exactly the same all over again.
    Can anyone help?

I've had it working in the past, thats what is odd.
It just refuses to update saying I don't have the necessary privelages.
Not sure when the next version of iTunes will be released, hope its soon.

  • Problems with iTunes and iPod running under Windows Vista

I recently changed my computer. I now have an HP Pavilion running windows Vista (use to have XP). I have a video iPod -30GB. I downloaded iTunes onto the new equipment without incident, but that is the last thing that went smoothly.
I can no longer watch TV shows or movies from iTunes. The video plays like a slide show of stills (the audio is real-time however). Eventually I will get an error message from Windows and it closes the application.
I am also having issues with syncing my iPod and computer. I get a message requiring me to delete all of the content of the iPod and replace it with the contents of iTunes. I haven't done this -no trust and no backup
The delete message is from iTunes. I suspect it is a security feature to prevent downloading to more than one iPod, as iTunes doesn't seem to 'know' my iPod anymore. Syncing has also caused iTunes to close and my computer to reboot. Has anyone else had these problems?

you may want to take a look at the iPod 101 tutorials. Those might help.
    Regards.
