Tecra M5 fails to obtain an IP address with Orange Livebox

I have a new Toshiba Tecra M5 notebook.
When I try to connect to my Orange Livebox wirelessly, it manages to connect but fails to obtain an IP address.
I have spent days trying everything.
I have followed previous postings on this but nobody appears to have posted a definitive answer. I have tried updating wireless lan driver etc but have got nowhere.
Somebody please help before I go nuts.

Make sure you are using the correct encryption (WEP/WPA/WPA2 with AES/TKIP and password). Eventually you might want to disable the password/encryption to check your equipment for proper function.

I do not have a data plan but am trying to connect thru my wireless router. When i try to connect after typing the WEP Key in it searches and comes back with "Failed to obtain IP address". How do I fix this?

• Failed to obtain/create connection from connection pool after redeploy

I have a web application (.war) that uses a jdbc connection pool. The application works fine, however after I redeploy it using the administration console I get "Failed to obtain/create connection from connection pool [ Datavision_Pool ]. Reason : null" followed by "Error allocating connection : [Error in allocating a connection. Cause: null]" from javax.enterprise.resource.resourceadapter and I am forced to restart the instance. I am running Sun Java System Application Server 9.1 (build b58g-fcs)
using a connection pool to a Microsoft SQL 2000 database using inet software's JDBC drivers. I need to be able to redeploy applications without having to restart the instance. Any help is appreciated.

I have turned on some additional diagnostics and found out some answers and a work-around, but I think that there may be a bug in the way JDBC connection pool classes are loaded. The actual error was a null pointer in the JDBC driver class in the perpareStatement method. The only line in this method is "return factory.createPreparedStatement( this , sql );" and the only possible NPE would be if the factory was null, which should be impossible because it is a static variable and it is initialized when the class is loaded. The problem occurs because we deploy the JDBC driver .jar file within our .war file, for use when a client doesn't have or want to use connection pooling. Apparently, the connection pool must have picked up some of these classes and when the .war was redeployed, the reference to the factory was lost for existing connections (not sure how). If I remove the JDBC .jar file from the .war, it works, but that wasn't an ideal solution, the other way to get it to work was to change the sun-web.xml file to have <class-loader delegate="true">. We previously had it set to false in version 8.1 because of interference with a different version of the apache Tiles classes, which has now been addressed in version 9.1.
I still think there is an issue, because the connection pool should never use the application specific classloaders. Am I wrong to believe this?

• Problem with EJB and JMS - Failed to obtain/create connection

hello ejb and jms programmers,
My problem is my topic MDB keep on retrieving the same message when there is a database connection failure. Maybe somebody could help me how to prevent to retrieve the same data?
Given:
- I purposedly turn off the pointbase database because im testing my error handling.
- Im using SJSAS 8 as my application server.
- My message Driven Bean of topic type.
- Im using CMP for my entity bean
Here is the scenario of whats happening - step by step:
1. A separate application publishes a message to JMS queue server
2. My MDB retrieves this message and do some processing then inserts a record (transaction history) in my database
3. But my db is turned off or down
4. My MDB sends a successful processing reply to the JMS queue server
5. Then i noticed that my server.log keeps on growing so when i opened it, the record was not inserted and printed the stacktrace below "RAR5117 : Failed to obtain/create connection. Reason : javax.transaction.SystemException" (complete stacktrace below)
6. I understand the cause of the stacktrace is because the DB is turned off. But what i dont understand is that my MDB keeps on reading the same message. Since my MDB is of topic type, isnt a topic MDB supposedly reads a message only once???
So my questions are:
1. how do i handle insert database error?
2. how can i stop my MDB from processing the same message?
3. any better suggestions?
Thank you in advance :)

Hi annie,
Wherever you are handling database transactions,
you'd not be able to create a Connection if database
is closed (I think you mentioned turning off the
database) then at this condition, you should
certainly throw a System level exception and stop all
processing with some meaningful flow to indicate a
failure (like display message on UI). Even
network problems are handled by exceptions... so I
don't see a reason why you didn't wrap it in the
first place.
Anyway, try handling specific exceptions rather than
the general Exception... this will give you a better
idea of what to do in case of an exception.Yes i know this. I am practicing this in my non-j2ee server applications. But the j2ee app im making, i just pass the db url in the descriptor and the app server automatically creates the connection for my app. So where would i put exception handling?
2. how can i stop my MDB from processing the same
message?Guaranteed delivery is not supposed to stop
processing. It will continue to process the message
after certain intervals till the message is
delivered. You shouldn't deliver it at all, if you
are able to detect that the database is off
The problem here is that my MDB automatically retrieves the message from the JMS queue server. Im not the one retrieving the messages manually.
My assumed behavior of topic MDB is once the a certain MDB retrieves a message it will not retrieve the same message anymore.
thank you in advance.

• WCS - Some clients never obtain an IP address

I have a multi-floor building with each floor devided into it's own AP group, with it's own respective interface and VLAN. Everything works fine ... except for the first floor. We have wireless carts that have two wireless cards on them. One is built into the PC attached to the cart, and the other is part of the cart itself for management purposes.
We cannot seem to get the cart monitoring onto the network (while the Windows PC's wireless works just fine). I have gone over the settings for the AP groups, interfaces, controllers, AP's, etc over and over again and I cannot seem to find anything wrong with the setup. It seems to authenticate to the AP, get connected, and then never obtain an IP address. I cannot seem to find any problem with the DHCP server or it's scope. There are plenty of addresses left to hand out.
Here is a 'debug client' dump from the WCS controller. Does anyone have any ideas of what I might check?
Thanks in advance for any advice offered!

It is obvious that the AP is trying to send KEAPOL-key Message 5 to the client but it does not reply. It tries three times then the timer expries and the AP deauthenticates the client.
In first glance, this is a client issue. I've seen this misbehavior with many such clients like yours when people tried to move from old non 802.11n APs to new 802.11n APs (mainly 1252 and 1142). The clients do not connect to new APs. It was always client issue and people had to upgrade the devices firmware or wireless driver on the client.
One unlucky customer had his clients (wireless guns) out of support so he had to replace them all to get them to work with the new APs. I hope your device is not out of support yet.

• Oracle Service Bus 10gR3 - Failed to obtain WLS Edit lock

My question is, how do I release this lock?
The gory details follow ...
Oracle Service Bus 10gR3 on Windows 2003 Enterprise.
I am following Tutorial 1. (Sheesh, I can't even get that right!)
Around page 3-28 - "To test the Routing of the Loan Application ManagerLoanReviewService".
Point 1 says to start the server. Without thinking, I did just that.
The problem is, it was already running, otherwise, I would not have been using the sbconsole to do the editing.
Of course, it detected it was already running and didn't start again.
Problem is, after the server shuts down, the command files shutdown PointBase.
So, after a mistaken startup, I ended up with a server with no database underneath it.
Fine, I restarted it.
Now, using the activate session ("sbconsole/sbconsole.portal?_nfpb=true&_windowLabel=ViewChangesPortlet&ViewChangesPortlet_actionOverride=%2Fchangemgmt%2FSessionActivate&_pageLabel=ChangeManagement&ViewChangesPortletactivate=activate")
I cannot activate my session, as it says the following :-
Failed to obtain WLS Edit lock; it is currently held by user weblogic. This indicates that you have either started a WLS change and forgotten to activate it, or another user is performing WLS changes which have yet to be activated. The WLS Edit lock can be released by logging into WLS console and either releasing the lock or activating the pending WLS changes.
I show outstanding sesssions, there is only one.
I switch to that session.
I still cannot activate this session.
I have tried re-starting the AdminServer.
It talks about releasing the lock in the WLS Admin console. Where? How?
Thanks in advance.
...Lyall
PS. I gave up on this and simply blew the whole lot away and started again (returned to post installation and re-started the entire tutorial). However, it would be useful to know how to fix this properly, if ever I end up in the same scenario again.

Although the Undo all changes might work in some cases, it could be the case that some files still remain and are even the AdminServer could not be started.
The lock files are usually located in the domain directories.
For example
Domain demo:
$BEA_HOME/user_projects/domains/demo/edit.lok or $BEA_HOME/user_projects/domains/demo/weblogic_eval.lck
--olaf

Please advise to resolve the issue. I need to mitigate user.

Hello Pal,
Please go to RAR configuration -> Risk Analysis -> Additional Options. Here check if you have the parameter Enable Monitor Notification set to YES. If you do then set this one to NO. Also, kindly check and make sure that you have a valid email address maintained for each of the mitigation control monitor in Mitigation tab.
If you wish to have the parameter set to yes only then you need to do the JAVA mail settings in Visual Admin. Check configuration of the JAVA mail client, which can be done using Visual Administrator, to send the Email Notification.

• Failed to obtain image version information from Aperture library

Mac OS X 10.10.1 (yes, Yosemite...)
Aperture 3.6
Lightroom 5.7,1 (CC version)
When trying to import some libraries from aperture I get this immediate response "Failed to obtain image version information from Aperture library".
In the plug-in import window, Number of image/video files is "undetermined", as well as Disk space required.
Tried with different Aperture libraries, but with the same negative result.
The plug-in worked in previous Lightroom version or when it was a stand alone plug-in.
Thnak you
Stefano

OK, here is the workaround I did to migrate all my images.
1. I broke down my Aperture library into separate libraries based on year (highlight all the 2014 projects, for example, right click, and "export to library")
2. Import each separate library into Lightroom, one at a time.
3. Delete the year-based libraries - and leave your original library on the drive (in case you need it in the future).
I found I had one project in my 2013 photos which was causing Lightroom's scan of my database to fail. So I ended up creating metadata riders for that one project and imported it after I got the rest of my images imported.

• [SOLVED] Apper "Failed to Obtain Authentication"

I'm trying to set up Apper, I like how it auto-probes available updates daily and I can just pop it open to see whats new. Problem is, actually installing updates doesn't work. No user or root password prompt, just "Failed to Obtain Authentication".
The polkit wiki page is outdated for one. It seems to be a mix of pre-systemd and pre-polkit notes. The only thing I tried from there was the "mount without authentication" script, which did work.
Here are the posts I found on the bbs already about similar topics:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=151719 : I'm not using testing, and polkit seems to be working in the general case. Also, it's 10 months old.
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=136483 : I get an authentication failure error, and trying to use pkcon it will display updates and packages fine, but trying to pkcon install zziplib, for example, fails with a "could not find or read package" error. It works as root though, so it still seems to be a privileges issue.
Here is a bug report from debian about something similar. But like before, I have polkit working and pkcon works under root, so it isn't the same issue. Also, I read a bunch about how polkit (not policykit) has specific integrations with systemd that make it behave differently vs other init systems.
I have also read in multiple places that polkit has a KDE system settings page, but I don't have it. It might have been in policykit, since most of the posts I'm finding are years old.
So it looks like I'm going to have to manually write polkit permissions for apper, unless someone knows what's missing here. So anyone know something?

I'm using yapan as an update notifier. It works great and is unobtrusive. You can also install updates with it. I've had problems with apper on other distros so it's the first thing to go as it hangs up package management.

• Log "Failed to obtain lock" msgs for baseline

Hi All,
Presently , I have a system for logging baseline success and failure msgs through a java program . But if the baseline fails to obtain lock before run,(in cases where during last run , lock may not have been released) , it is logging that also as baseline successfully completed. Hence i require to get a "failure to obtain lock" message or just a regular failure message like in other cases. This would help in tracking such issues . I would like to know where to put the check for this and what should be the check . Thanks a lot.
Regards,
Anuj

The common pattern here is to add to the else statement to the BaselineUpdate script to do something extra with the failure to get the lock. For example, on other threads in this forum have mentioned using a mailer class to generate email messages. I have also seen implementations implement a wait function.
Here is an example mailer modification:

<log-dir>./logs/provisioned_scripts</log-dir>
<provisioned-script-command>./control/baseline_update.sh</provisioned-script-command>
<bean-shell-script>

log.info("Starting baseline update script.");
// obtain lock
if (LockManager.acquireLock("update_lock")) {
if (LockManager.acquireLock("baseline_data_ready")) {
... code snipped ...
} else {
log.warning("Baseline data not ready for processing.");
Mailer.sendSimpleMsg("Baseline update failed", "Failed to obtain baseline_data_ready lock - means that the incoming data is not ready.");
// release lock
LockManager.releaseLock("update_lock");
log.info("Baseline update script finished.");
} else {
log.warning("Failed to obtain lock.");
Mailer.sendSimpleMsg("Baseline update failed", "Failed to obtain update_lock - may mean that another baseline is running or stalled.");

• Detect "Obtain DNS server address automatically" set

Can anyone help me with a minor issue?
I am trying to detect if this setting is set to manual or automatic
I am currently using this code
Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration -Filter "IPEnabled=TRUE" | Select PSComputerName,DNSServerSearchOrder
The problem is it returns the servers and not the actual setting of automatic vs manual.
Powershell v2

Hi JustuslV,
Optionally, you can retrieve or set a value corresponding to "Obtain DNS server address automatically" by using the two registry entries, DhcpNameServer and NameServer, which you can find at the following registry location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces
\{AdapterIdentifier}
If the value of NameServer is null, the client tries to obtain a DNS server address automatically from the DHCP server.
Refer to:
Part 5: Scripting DNS on Clients
And you can refer to this script to get the related registry value:
$adapter=Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration -Filter "IPEnabled=TRUE" | select -ExpandProperty SettingID
$path='HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces'
Get-ItemProperty -Path "$path\$adapter" -Name Nameserver|select -ExpandProperty NameServer
If there is anything else regarding this issue, please feel free to post back.
Best Regards,
Anna Wang
