Tecra M5: Need HDD adaptor for a Slim Select Bay

I bought the Tecra M5 last week and I am very happy with it, however I also purchased the Slim SelectBay HDD Adapter (part number PA3134U-2ETC)
I already have a hard disk to go inside it, but on arrival I have found that they are not compatible and I need a caddy / adaptor plate to make the whole thing work!
Does anybody have any ideas of an after market copy?
I have spent the last 4 hours of the day on the phone to various departments within Toshiba and suppliers, none of which appear to be able to help. I am going to spend 280 on a 100GB HDD, when a 120 gig on its own is only 120, I think 160 for the elusive plate / caddy is a bit too expensive!
Cheers in anticipation.
Nick

Hi,
I've had trouble getting these adapters as well but have just found a supplier called laptop bits!
http://www.laptopbits.co.uk/Database_files/Toshiba_Hard_Drive_Adaptors.htm
The one you want is the FK-TOS-8100 it's for the Tecra range but it also fits the M100, Portege 4010 and most importantly PA3134U Slim select bay. It's comes complete with the connecting pin protector and screws - but it should for 45.00 + VAT!!! The packaging on the one I bought is marked as "ITS P/N TOS8100 Brkt, Assy, Toshiba Tecra 8100 Series HDD 12mm Caddy" if you want to googlet for a cheaper clone!
Good luck!

  • Tecra M5 - Is it possible to install another OS on slim select bay HDD

Is it possible to install another OS on slim select bay HDD (besides the one that is on the native HDD).
I am planning to add a slim bay HDD to my Tecra M5.

Although I can't vouch for the procedure myself, I don't see why not. If you can install two or more OSes on a single drive on separate partitions, then it should work on an additional HDD as well, in my opinion.
Another question is what OS, and what is going to manage the boot sequence. For example, Microsoft XP setup wipes out GRUB, so you need to install Linux after XP. Two MS OSes usually coexist just fine together, but to be on the safe side it doesn't hurt if the later (by release date) OS is installed second.

  • Slim Select Bay HDD adapter

I put in another HDD, and wanted to use the original one (MK4021GAS) in the slim select bay (SSB) using a SSB HDD adapter. However although the manual says “insert the HDD and push forward to ensure a firm connection”, and shows a picture of this, this is not possible as the connectors on the HDD and inside the SSB HDD adapter are different. The HDD has a double row of about 30 tines/spikes, like an old serial port, and the SSB adapter has a double row of 22 flat metal rectangles, a kind of edge connector, like an old parallel port cable. Do I need to purchase some kind of additional adapter? There's no such adapter shown in the picture in the manual.

Well, it sounds like you will need to search on Ebay because Satellite 5200 is an oldie
Im not quite sure how old it is but its definitely an stone age notebook so to be honest I dont wonder that the parts might be discontinued

  • Satellite Pro 6070 Slim Select Bay Drive won't regonize CDs

I have a problem with my Slim Select Bay DVD drive. The disc motor is running and the laser unit is moving, but it won't recognize any disc until I flip the whole notebook on the right side.
Then after a few attempts with opening and closing the drive, the drive reads the disc at most times. So i think it's a problem with the contacts inside the notebook because windows does recognize it everytime.
Has anyone here any idea how to solve it?
    Many thanks

Sorry but I don't understood your question. Obviously there is contact problem and how you think that you can solve it.
If someone write here that you should disassemble whole notebook and check or maybe clean contacts do your really want to do this?

  • Can I connect and use a Dell projection unit..several years old...with my new Macbook Pro?  do i just need an adaptor for the multi-pin plug?

I would like to use my old Dell projection unit with my new Macbook Pro laptop, but obviously there is no such plug in the Macbook.  Is there an adaptor I can connect and make it work?  Without the old "F" keys, how do I get the Macbook to provide output to the projection unit?  I don't see an icon on a button anywhere?
Thanks for any help...  trying to become a good Apple user.

You have to determine what connection options are available on the projector.  You probably will need a Mini-displayport (Thunderbolt) adapter. that can accommodate the projector.
    Ciao.

  • Tecra A2 - Need XP drivers for LAN and WLan card

    Hey,
I've got a rather old.. second hand Toshiba Tecra A2 laptop and apparently its in need of an ethernet controller and a network controller drive.
I've been using the toshiba website to download many drivers for this model laptop successfully.
I have installed them all - but i apparently still need these drivers. Where can i get them from.
Or where might i be going wrong in finding them?
    Thanks for any replies ^^
    P.s, its windows xp professional

Sorry - in fact on the toshiba driver downloads page, i downloaded the LAN driver etc, moved the download onto my laptop, extracted all folders and there was no installation device but only an un-installation device, as when i clicked it, it asks " do you want to remove all drivers for all wired intel PRO network connections?"
if i should continue with this what i thought to be un installation program.. let me know :)

  • I have iMac G5.  Need VGA adaptor for display port.

I have an old iMac Power Mac G5 8.2.  I need a VGA adapter for display port so we can use it in our TV studio in my elementary school.  What kind do I need to get?
    Mini-DVI and mini-display don't fit.

    2nd Display Support:
    Mirroring Only*
    2nd Max. Resolution:
    1024x768*
    Details:
Apple reports that this system has a "VGA output port for video mirroring on an external display or projector", and supports output resolutions of "640 x 480 pixels at 60Hz, 800 x 600 pixels at 75Hz and 1024 x 768 pixels at 75Hz". However, the hardware is capable of using an external display in dual or "extended desktop mode", Apple just blocked the capability in firmware to protect sales of more expensive Macs. Unsupported third-party hacks are available.

  • Tecra M3: Need a slim select DVD adaptor

    Hello all
Does anyone know the part number for the adaptor which fastens to the DVD-ROM drive / caddy for the Slim Select bay in the Tecra M3?
I've just got an M3 off eBay but it came without a drive. Also obtained a Tecra (Matsu****a) DVD-ROM/CD-RW from eBay, but although it's got the caddy it's not got the adaptor,.
    Thanks!
    Chris

You should consider to buy a complete optical drive!
If not you need some parts and I guess it's more expensive to buy them from a Toshiba service partner.
    - 1 x ODD PACK BASE - Part No P000397490
    - 1 x PCB ASSY FSZCD2 - Part No P000327080
    - 1 x CD DVD PACK COV - Part No P000335340
    - 2 x SCREW M2 X 8C,STEEL - Part No P000229530
    - 4 x TGSCREW M2X3C,STEEL - Part No P000273850
*So I suggest again to buy a complete drive!*
In addition you have to consider that the optical drive must have a firmware with inverted CSEL! Otherwise you will get an IDE#1 Error when booting.

  • Tecra M2 need an advice

    Hi
This may sound like a silly question but hopefully someone may be able to clear up my confusion.
    I was looking at purchasing a Tecra M2, the specification says a plug-in CD-RW/DVD.
I originally took this to be an external plug in device but now think that it may be internal.
Can anyone clarify this for me?
    Many thanks.

    Hi
I have found the information that Tecra M2 has Slim Select Bay drive and it can be removable by user.
    Bye

  • HDD adaptor vs battery life...?

    Hi guys,
Pardon me if my question have been discussed before, could not locate any threads...
I am thinking of buying the HDD adaptor for my T410 so that I can place a 2nd HDD in the optical drive, thought of putting in 1Tb. My question is, how much battery life will be affected if I go that direction?
Any inputs will be greatly appreciated
    omar
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Generally it will drain as much as relugar HDD inside. Usually going to have impact about 30-60 mins battery life - depending on usage of that HDD.
7200rpm HDDs drain more and often are more loud and definitelly get a bit more hot than 5400 prm. Therefore I would suggest to with 5400rpm HDD.

  • Re : T400 2764CTO, 2nd HDD Adapter for an Ultrabay Slim, to be used in the DVD bay

What is the part # for the 2nd HDD Adapter for an Ultrabay Slim, to be used in the DVD bayCan you also confirm it is a SATA connection, I have already been sent an IBM P/N 41U3148 which has the IDE connection and appears not to fit.
    Thanks for help

Actually, it is entirely accurate.  Here is another related thread with a lot of pictures that demonstrate the problem.  I have 3 Lenovo W520s and 3 useless Lenovo Ultramedia bay adapters.  I cannot tolerate the gap because it causes frequent drive dismounts when I pick up the laptop when it is running or even touching the side.  The newmodeus adapters I purchased to replace the defective Lenovo adapters have been rock solid!  I recommend visiting all the picture links on this thread.  It will clearly demonstrate the problem:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Will-Hard-Drive-Bay-Adapter-II-two-work-in-W52...
Shan, it isn't entirely correct because we have a lot of W510 and W520 users in my company this doesn't occur with. I am not discounting the problem. I only take exception to the statement that blankets ALL users and ALL hard drive adaptors.  Doing that is incorrect.
