Tecra M9-136 - BSOD during Vista SP2 update

Tecra M9-136 asked this morning to update to Vista SP2 and during the process the BSOD 0x0000007E arrived. Restarted in Safe Mode and the installer continued and then finally reported that the update had failed - and reverted to SP1. This took most of the morning.
It will start in Safe Mode but on a normal boot-up, Vista SP1 gets through the fingerprint recognition and then fails with the same BSOD (it doesn't get as far as displaying the desktop).
The laptop has BIOS level 1.80. I've tried in Safe mode to install 1.90 but it tells me that the battery has insufficient charge and the power adapter isn't attached. Both untrue.
Stuck - need advice. Could this be a hard fault? Can't see how I can update anything if it's a soft fault.

The message with the BSOD mentioned checking BIOS and driver versions. Anyway, no change made to that.,
I tried System Restore but the only available restore point was the SP2 installation. I thought Vista was supposed to save a restore point every 24 hours even if nothing new had been installed.
I've now found in System Information / Windows Error Reporting several messages like this:

    Can anyone help?  I am having a problem with this particular Microsoft update. 
    I have my Lenovo 3000 N500 set to automatic updates for Windows.  However, the SP2 update has failed to install on numerous occasions.  I get an error number but am unable to check what this means.  I have had no problem with my Dell desktop installing the same update.

    I have already tried that before I came here.  I have tried everything without success.
    I can only assume I must have a fault with my original Vista installation.  Bought the laptop new last May.

    I guess that de lower filter "tdcmdpst" (TOSHIBA Writing Engine Filter Driver) is the issue.
    But I can't remove "tdcmdpst" filter even with admin rigths.

    How can I remove this filter to upgrade Vista SP2 ?

  • No audio device installed after windows vista sp2 update

    Ok I will try to be as thorough as possible because I want to fix this problem and I hope somebody can help me.
    So A few days ago There was an update for my audio driver so I accepted.
    But after this update my sound worked but on next use the sound was gone.
    So......I used system restore but no help the same thing happened
    I went to the hp website to look up my audio driver for my model which was conexant audio 221
    After download the driver wouldnt let me install it. I go to check in device manger to install it manually and the sound section is gone literally so i cant reformat or reinstall or anything 0.0
    Somebody told me I need to upgrade to windows vista x64 sp2 which was in windows update.
    So i tried it and still the same crap
    I cant install the sound driver because there is no place in the device manager to install it to
    I just get a message saying device installation failed device not found
    i dont know what to do

  • A205-S4777 Vista SP2 Update Failure. MS support says recovery required. How to? {SOLVED}

    I need to set vista back to original. When I enter 0 at start up and select Toshiba Recovery the program expects a recovery CD's. I thought the system could be recovered from the recovery partition. What procedures do i need to follow to set the system back to original and start over?

  • No Sound After Installing Vista SP2

    I installed with Vista SP2 update yesterday and now I have no sound. It seems to be a driver problem but updating the driver does not fix it. There is a red "x" by the speaker icon on the task bar and the volume buttons on my keyboard dont work.
    The Conexant HD audio driver says that it is installed properly but I have no volume.
    Microsoft seems to be aware of this problems and has a few fixes out (like http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948481/) but nothing they have published is helping me.
    Please help as I really need to have my sound up.

    This message can be closed - though, not sure if I am able to do myself.  I uninstalled the IDT Codec, did a full shutdown, then started back up, let windows fully load, was prompted for installing of the Codec by Windows, clicked to allow the installation to occur and the codec/driver was successfully installed.  I have my sound back!   Fantastic!

    You'll see Evaluation Copy text above speaker/time in taskbar on second startup after you install the service pack. DreamScene hides it but I could not find it in registry to blank out.
    Also, the Evaluation Copy text may remain during the first restart after you uninstall the service pack. However, this text does not appear after the next restart.

    Beta version are not supported that well with Lenovo updates........

  • Java scrambles display of my new Tecra M5-136

    Whenever I run a Java application (or just try to open Java options in control panel) my video scrambles and I have to turn off machine by means of keyboard shortcuts.
    This happens with both Sun Java 5.0 update 4 (preinstalled) and update 6 from Java website.
    This does not happen with Windows XP running in safe mode, so I think it may be a compatibility issue with nVidia software or drivers..
    Anyone with similar issues ?

    Anyway,
    I can confirm IT DOES EXIST A CONFLICT BETWEEN JAVA RE AND NVIDIA QUADRO NVS 110M DRIVER.
    I've used autoruns (www.sysinternal.com) to disable all non-microsoft services and all logon/autorun/startup software, leaving just the drivers loaded, among them there is NV4_MINI.SYS (nVidia miniport video).
    With that driver java scrambles screen, without it windows use standard vga and java runs smoothly.
    Now I'll start kicking :) some Toshiba support @## for releasing a patch.. :)

  • Firefox will not open in Vista SP2 after installing software for a Brother MFC printer.

    I have 7 computer network. All the machines are running Vista SP2. I recently purchased a Brother MFC 9325cw, and installed the printer/scanner drivers as well as a program called scansoft paperport on each of the machines individually.
    I left out the some of the bulkier aspects of the driver package, namely the brother control center because it seems to eat up a lot ram at start up.
    Since I have installed the printer driver on my computers, several of them will not open firefox.
    I have tried re-installing firefox on one machine so far to no avail.
    Next I will try to re-install the brother software. Has anyone else encountered this problem before?

    It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
    Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Apple Mobile Device Service has stopped working. Vista SP2, iTunes 10.5

    Hi there. I've been having an issue syncing my iPhone to iTunes. Here's a description of the problem:
    -With an up-to-date Apple Mobile Device Service, error windows constantly pop-up saying that it has stopped working. If I close the error window, another one pops up fifteen seconds later.
    -If I plug my iPhone into my computer, it is not recognized in iTunes, because Apple Mobile Device Service is not running.
    -This error does not occur on my desktop PC, so I have been able to sync my iPhone by loading all of my files onto a USB and transferring them onto it. However, I would much rather not.
    Here are the steps that I have taken:
    -Uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 10.5 with firewall off
    -Individually uninstalled and reinstalled the Apple Mobile Device Service with firewall off
    -Stopped and Restarted the Apple Mobile Device Service in Administrative Tools -> Services
    -Extensively searched the internet for solutions
    -Replaced Apple Mobile Device Service for iTunes 10.5 with Apple Mobile Device Service for iTunes 10.1 (This worked PARTIALLY. The error windows have now stopped popping up altogether, but I cannot sync with iTunes because the Apple Mobile Device Service is out of date. It asks me to update it, I agree, and I get the Apple Mobile Device Service that spawns error windows and still does not allow me to sync my iPhone.)
    I am running Windows Vista SP2, and iTunes 10.5. My Internet Security suite is AVG Internet Security 2011. My iPhone is running iOS 5.0.0. Here is a full report of the error:

    Just a shot in the dark, but have you downloaded any program from Megaupload, like MegaKey?  If so then that is your problem. I had been having the exact same problem for the past 2 weeks. I couldn't figure out what it was and tried everything that you have.. Then was on a board and someone mentioned Megakey. Having tried everything else, I uninstalled the program and reinstalled the current ITunes and AMDS. My Ipad and Iphone connected with no problem.

  • Vista SP2 will not install

    Good day, this is my first post. We have a 3000 N100 that will not allow Vista SP2 to install. At least that is what Microsoft support says, after spending all Sunday morning chatting with them. But SP1 installed just fine a while ago.
    I uninstalled AVG today  just in case but no joy.
    Microsoft insists that we should reinstall Vista, but no Vista CD came with the laptop.
    Another thing: when I click on the Lenovo Care icon, nothing happens?

  • Flash Player on IE and Vista SP2 won't run

    I have two laptops in front of me, one running Vista SP2 IE8, the other XP SP2 IE8.  The Vista machine would not accept FP10 update, so updated all MS products, uninstalled current version of FP, which wouldn't run, then attempted download.  No response from Adobe FP site after clicking "Agree and install now" button.  To test site, updated the XP laptop.  The Install Adobe FP page was different for each laptop, with the XP site including option to load Google bar.  Downloaded and upgraded XP, no problem.  With the Vista system, checked the Macromd folder in System32 and is completely empty.  No other folders.  Need FP on the Vista laptop.  Recommendations?

    Try the offline ActiveX installer for Internet Explorer:
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe
    save it to disk, then close all browser windows and run the downloaded installer.

  • BSODs During Install

    I been trying to install Windows 8.1 on my desktop custom build for a month and a half.  I purchased a Giagbyte 78LMT-USB3 motherboard with an AMDFX-4103 processor and a 4 GB stick of Patriot DDR3 RAM.  I purchased a Crucial M500 SSD and also a
    new 700 Watt Rosewill PSU.  I also have 2 other HDDs, a 2 TB WD Green drive and a 360 GB Samsung drive from an old HP computer that died.
    I tried to install to the SSD, and I did get it fully installed once.  However, I received BSODs within a minute of boot.  Many different codes, DVP WATCHDOG VIOLATION, NFTS FILESYSTEM, MEMORY MANAGEMENT, plus others too numerous to remember. 
    I updated the MB BIOS with my flash drive, didn't seem to help.  I tried to update the MB Drivers but it would always bluescreen before I could do anything.
    So I decided to re-install Windows.  I tried several times and received several BSODs during the setup itself.  I received a CACHE MANAGER BSOD, NTFS FILESYSTEM BSOD and several BSODs without any specific problem listed.  I updated the SSD
    firmware to the latest version, March 25,2014, and still got BSODs on all install attempts.  I then decided to attempt to install on my HDD.  I attempted to install on the Samsung drive and received several more of afore mentioned BSODs. I have yet
    to get Windows 8.1 installed to a point where it runs more than 1 minute without a BSOD.  Right now I can't even get it to install.
    I don't have any dump files to upload since it BSODs during the install attempts.  Not sure where to go from here.
    Edit:  I also ran MemTest on it for 4 passes and it came back with 0 errors.

    Check the SSD forums.  Sometimes there are settings in the BIOS that will greatly affect how well a system tolerates an SSD.

    Message appeared: "Login denied. "name_company" security policies have rejected your login" and nothing else.
    I tried to uninstall and reinstall the client annyconect ver.3.1.04063 but not success, the same message, I think it's a problem with my computer because my user id with other computer colleagues runs ok and I can authenticate perfectly.
    Few days ago and always I have worked without problems then I don't know what happens...perhaps an automatically update of windows vista¿?

    I have another computer with windows 8.1 and Cisco VPN Anyconnect version 3.1 works fine ! what is wrong with this computer. After a little bit of research I realised that this issue is from cisco hostscan. Interesting enough comp A(computer A) where vpn client works does not have cisco host csan folder in program files (x86). On this computer I did saw that folder and deleted it.
    I found the following information
    C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Cisco\Cisco HostScan\lib has some sort of .libs for various antivirus.... I have AVG Antivirus 2015 and Spy Bot ...
    I have attached log files, if anybody wants to investigate then you are more than happy to investigate. Happy to be of help in case if you need any further input.
