Tecra R940 Screen

I am now considering change my Tecra M5 with Tecra R940 model. But I cannot find the one thing. Is the screen of Tecra R940 glossy like other satellite model or as same as Tecra M5? If it is glossy screen, I have to give up to buy.
Thanks

This is what I can tell you that may be of at least a little help.  I bought my son a Tecra R840 about 18 months ago, and it came with a matte (not glossy) screen.  I have recently ordered a number of Tecra R950's for my office, and although I haven't received them yet the specification indicates that they will come with matte (not glossy) screens.
By coincidence, the R950's are replacing Tecra M5's in my office . . .

  • Tecra R940 with SSD Windows 7 boot failure

My company has purchased Tecra R940 laptops and are replacing the existing HDD with Kingston SSDNow 200 V+ 120GB SSD drives. On a test unit after installing the SSD, the laptop was rebuilt with our corporate image (Windows 7 x64) which completed successfully.
Post build however a number of issues are apparent:
    1. Occasionally during a reboot, the laptop will post and then hang at the "starting windows" screen before the Windows logo animation is displayed and with the hard drive light on solid. After a period of time an Windows recovery is attempted and eventually an error reported:
    Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred
This issue does not occur at every boot but once in every 2 or 3.
    2. The following error is logged in the Windows System log
    Source: ATAPI
    Event ID: 11
Description: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0
I have tried the following in order to resolve the issue:
    1. Upgraded the R940 BIOS to latest available (6.40).
    2. Confirmed that the BIOS SATA Controller Mode is set to AHCI.
    3. Confirmed there are no available SSD drive firmware updates.
    4. Installed the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver from Toshiba (11.0.0.1032).
    5. Tried an alternate SSD. Same errors noted, so not a faulty SSD.
    6. Tried the SSD in a Toshiba Portege R930. In this case the errors above are not apparent.
    7. Reinstalled the original HDD. In this case the errors above are not apparent.
    8. Confirmed a 2nd unit (with SSD installed) logs the same Event ID 11.
My testing has left me at a point where I believe there is something wrong at the R940 end with either hardware or software that does not like SSD's.
Has anyone resolved a similar problem or have any thoughts on resolving this?
    Thank you in advance.

    > Reinstalled the original HDD. In this case the errors above are not apparent
So using an HDD everything works properly
So the controller seems to be OK.
I searched for Even ID 11 error description and the Event ID 11 source disk means The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\DR0
There are many people having such issue with different notebooks and different SSD drives.
There is also different recommendation to solve this:
Someone could solve this my SSD drive firmware update
The other one solved this by running a full SMART scan with repair (reallocation of unstable sectors)
There is also an newer version of the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver available on Intel page.
So its worth to update this,

  • Does Tecra R940-1H support external resolution 2560x1440

    Hi
    I use a laptop TECRA R940-1HP
I want to buy professional monitor Phillip 272P4QPJKEB/00 with a resolution of 2560 x 1440.
    Please write to me.
Can my laptop support such a resolution?

The external resolution support depends on the graphic card which is built in the notebook.
As far as I know the Tecra R940-1HP supports the Intel HD Graphics 4000 chip.
From my knowledge this Intel HD 4000 chip supports max resolution of 2560x1600/32bit via Display Port.
I guess more details about Intels own graphic chip you will find on Intel page.

  • Tecra R940-S9421 Repeating Beep sounds like a buzzing noise

I have an intermittent issue where the Tecra R940-S9421 will begin a buzzing noise which comes thru the speakers.
I thought I had a hardware issue at first but when I muted the sound the buzzing dissapated.
So I googled the issue and found a fix whereby I must go to Device Manager / View Hidden Devices / go to Non plug and Play Items and uninstall the BEEP entry ---- this has worked for now just hoping it will not come back .....
Is this a known problem with Tecra ? Anyone else with the issue that knows a more permanent fix ?

Look at my other posts I've made about this issue. I am having the same problems. I wish apple would say whether this is a fault or if it is supposed to be this way.

  • Tecra R940-DCK Drivers

    Hello!
    3 days ago, bouht a new Tecra R940-DCK, Model ?: PT43HR-04N02SRU. (i5 3210, memory 6 Gb, HM76 chipset)
I installed SDD and Windows 7 x64 without problems, but now have a little problems with drivers.
I can't find this notebook at Toshiba support sites (by S/N and model).
    What drivers should I use?

I already searched the drivers on Russian support page.
    There are only:
    BIOS Update
Display Driver (Windows 7 x32 only)
    Fingerprint Software (not a driver)
Wireless Lan Driver (Windows 8 x64 only)
    and some Toshiba utilities.
There are no drivers for Bluetooth, Touchpad, Fingerprint, Cardreader, Chipset, Serial Bus, Sound, Web Cam and etc (any OS version).
I found some similiar models (PT43**) on support.toshiba.com, but I'm not sure that these drivers can be used on my model.

  • How to do BIOS update on Tecra R940?

Are there instructions to do BIOS update for my Tecra R940/Win7Pro/64bit?
    Thanks
    AB-Oz

On Toshiba BIOS download page you can download WIN version. That means after BIOS download you must execute it under running Windows as every other application.
By the way: is there some reason for BIOS update? Have you noticed some troubles with your machine?

  • Tecra 8100: screen goes blank

Several of my Tecra 8100s have a problem with the screen going blank. They can be fine for ages or it can happen 3/4 times in a minute. Anyone know what the problem is and/or know how to fix it? Doesn't seem to matter how much ram there is or how big the hard drive is it still happens. At the moment all I can do is press the screen button or close/open the LCD lid.

    Hi,
I can not be sure if this is correct answer or not. But my Tecra 8100 was giving the same problem. Screen used to become so dim as if it had gone blank. And this would happen just about any time(many times in a day or not for weeks). Then all I could do was - hit the power button. Then one day it went blank and did not come ON only for 1 month. I showed it to a service guy and he said it was BIOS problem. He installed the updated BIOS and I did not have that problem for over a year now.
But again, I am no expert so sombody pls reconsider my suggestion.

  • Tecra M2 screen compatibility.

I need to buy a replacement screen for a Tecra M2 PTM20E-01KWY-7D. Do you know how many pins the connection has for that model? I'm finding it hard to find that information. I don't know what to buy.

Hmm Everything what I know is that Tecra M2 has been equipped with the 14.1" XGA LCD display
I found a website which provides the displays for Tecra M2 series:
    http://www.screentekinc.com/toshiba__Tecra__M2-series-laptops-lcd-screens.shtml
As you can see a new LCD display is not cheap. Maybe you should search for an second hand Tecra M2.

  • Tecra R940 not resuming

    Hi,
I purchased a R940 with Windows 8 that's having an issue resuming from sleep every few times I try to resume. When the issue occurs, the fan spins up all the way and the screen never comes on. I have to power off manually, at this point.
I've had this happen on a fresh build of Windows 8 with the latest drivers, BIOS, etc.
    Thanks!
    Jack

  • Tecra M3 Screen Replacement

    Greetings,
I have a broken screen on my tecra M3.....any spares around? Also specs on screen replacement

    Hi
The screen replacement is a tricky thing Its not so easy
So this should be done only by notebook technicians
The Tecra M4 has been equipped with a 14" XGA display
But a notebook screen is one of the expensive notebook parts
Im not quite sure how much it is but you will need about 300-350 Euros
I think its not worth to replace the screen if I would be you I would look for a second hand Tecra M3.

PS: All notebook parts can be ordered from an local ASP (service point/partner)

  • Tecra 8000 screen goes green

I've got a Tecra 8000 running Win2000 with the latest drivers/bios, etc. It runs fine and everything, but has this peculiar problem. When first booting up, the display comes out fine, but then gets a green tint to everything. I can fix this by going into hibernate (or suspend) and turning the machine back on (out of hibernation).
Likewise, if I run an app that changes res and goes to full screen (ie: MAME) the screen will go back to a green tint again, and won't go back to normal unless I hibernate->turn back on. Any ideas?

    Hi
Did you try to connect the external monitor?
If not try to connect the external monitor and check if this issue also happens on the second monitor.
If not so I assume there is only something wrong with the display on the notebook but if this issue appears also on the external monitor so there could be a graphic card malfunction or also something wrong on the motherboard.
Unfortunately I don't think that you can solve without any professional help.
You should contact the Toshiba service partner in your country.
    Explain him the situation.

  • Tecra M3 screen freeze

    Hello
My M3's screen has been freezing up for some time. The DVD drive and keyboard lights still function but the fan halts and then starts speeding-up after every 7 seconds or so and I cannot stop this until I forced a power shutdown..
    1) I've reinstalled Windows XP pro sp2 (and then to sp3)
    2) also ran Microsoft windiag to check the RAM = OK
    3) re-arranged the 2 x 512 RAM chips = no change
It still freezes up and spins erratically after several minutes or if I try to do any heavy work.
    What is the problem?
Are they other tests I could run before I send it for a service?
    Thanks

    >It still freezes up and spins erratically after several minutes or if I try to do any heavy work
What do you think about this theory:
The high temperature affects the RAM and this leads to notebook freeze.
Due to the clogged cooling modules the temperature could arise to a higher level and could affect the notebook functionality.
This happened several times with my notebook.
I cleaned the cooling ventilators and everything went properly.
I think you should try this too.
You could use the compressed air spray in order to remove the dust and debris from the cooling modules.
    Cheers

  • Tecra M2 - screen changes to pink background

Hi - this is my first message and I would appreciate some guidance.
Sometimes when I switch the notebook on, and other times in the middle of working, the white background on the screen changes to pink. The screen then looks blurred although everything else seems to be working OK.
I tried tapping near the hinge, which seemed to correct the colour on one occasion.
Do I need to return my M2 to an authorised service provider?
    Many thanks.

You do need to return the unit to your ASP for assistance, but from the sounds of it you have a loose cable flat which connects your display to your motherboard. A job that takes all of 15 minutes to fix. Should not be an issue for your ASP to fix it up real fast.

  • Tecra R940-1EE - dead with lead error 4Eh

    Hi.
Last night without any warning my laptop stopped working. I've tried with and without battery, pressing the shutdown button for 20/30 seconds without the battery, with battery, without the DC adapter, etc.
The error code I'm getting on the power led (blinking in orange) is 01001110 - 4Eh.
Does any one knows what this error stands for? I'm pretty sure this is a power related issue, but I'm not able to find what the error codes means.
    Thanks

    Hi
Googling around I found info that error codes 4*h means that there is some error with S3V output.
There is no 4Eh 4Eh code.
    Just folow codes are available:
    40h S3V voltage is over 3.47V.
    45h S3Vvoltage is under 3.14V.
46h S3V voltage is under 3.14V or less when the computer is booting up.
That’s all I found online in different forums.

  • Re-installing Audio Driver

I recently purchased a new dynadock (model # - dynadock PA3927U-1PRP dynadock U3.0).  During the setup, I received a notice that both the audio and Ethernet drivers had not installed.  Obviously, my dynadock audio has not been working.  I visited the Toshiba trouble shooting site and although it provided information on my current issues:
    1. No Toshiba USB Display DriversThere entity in my "Program and Features"
    2. Device Manager lists my dynadock with a yellow exclamation point
    3. "Sound" in my Control Panel only shows one playback device
So while the site was helpful in identifying my problem, there is NO information on how to reinstall the audio drivers. Appreciate any help this board could provide.  Thanks!

I too had many... many... problems with installing the dynadock software drivers.  I started when I received a new Toshiba Tecra R940 laptop.  I pulled the installed 7200 RPM drive and installed a solid state drive.  This was not the issue, but it meant I needed to install windows from scratch, and there lied the problem.  I had no preinstalled drivers and to hunt them down was a pain.  Net... Net... Since I was not able to get all the Toshiba drivers installed successfully, combined with the already painful issues with the dynadock, I reinstalled the 7200 RPM hard drive with all the preloaded software. Once I did that I was close.  The installation CD that came with the dynadock was a joke. I needed to reload the latest driver from Toshiba which did get the display and USB ports operational.  Next I read this post and navigated to the link provided and installed dynadock LAN and Audio Drivers V2.6.1.1, making sure I OLNY checked the Network and Audio to install.  As I already had the display drivers install at version diaplylink 7.1 I did not want to add to the problem.  From windows 7 driver manager, I still noted the network and audio was highlighted in yellow (disabled).  So I clicked on the Update Driver and had windows search by C:\ drive (root C:\ and not the web).  Windows found a gigabit speed network driver and the audio, presumably from the earlier driver install.  Once Windows installed these drivers, I re-booted and all is good. Maybe I'll tackle the solid state issue after I image my drive now that all is working.
    Thank you for your help.

As a closing note:  Toshiba Help Desk is worthless!!!  When I did call (several times) I finally got someone that sounded like India support.  I waited for about 45 minutes listening to music before a person finally picked up. He took my name, and I provided information on what the issue was.  Next he set the phone down and all I could hear was this guy talking with his buddies (sounded like a party) and he "never" picked back up. After 15-20 minutes of this I hung up.
