Tecra R950-10V PT530E stops booting if USB port is used

I recently bought the mentioned notebook and everything works fine.
But:
if the dynadock is connected to any USB Port the notebook stops booting after a few seconds.
The windows flag freezes ans nothing happens.
The same problem comes up if a USB Stick is connected to any USB Port of the R950.
If the DynaDock or the USB stick is attached to a different Notebook everything works.
So it must be something with the R950.
I already checked the boot device priority and and pushed the USB device to the end of the list without any result.
I hope somebody can help me.
thx in advance!

Hi
Remove the battery and the AC adaptor.
Then leave the notebook disconnected 2-3 hours.
Then additionally press and hold power button 30 sec long.
Then connect battery and AC adaptor once again
Run an check again..
Feedback would be appreciated

No, and that shouldn't be done with an AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule.

I am not 100% what isn't allowed.. but I am assuming you want to spread the backup across the two disks.. internal TC and 6TB external.. this is not possible.. It has to be one or the other. TC has no way to build a raid JBOD or anything else. Nor would you want to as that is the most likely to fail and kill your data.
Let me add, backing up 6TB over USB on TC.. will be the most excruciating experience of your life.. cf child birth or passing kidney stones.. large ones.. being the male equivalent.

A bluetooth keyboard can be used with the Apple TV.
There is no need for a mouse with an ATV.

  • Can USB port be used for USB fan power?

I’m considering helping with the heat issue by getting a Targus 2 fan laptop chill pad. On sale at walmart.com for about $16 + shpg.
Problem is that it is powered by USB and I don’t know if the USB port on the ATV will supply the minimal power that it requires.
Anyone have a clue about this?
    24” iMac Intel Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2.33/2GB RAM/256MBV/500/WIKM

Please forgive my impatience with this question.
I remembered that I have a Kensington light. Fly light I think it is called. Anyway, I hooked it to the ATV and it worked.
So the answer to my post, yes it does supply power. Sorry that I didn’t think to check it before posting.

  • Machine shuts down when a certain USB port is used...................help!

Dell Optiplex 760 (Win Vista Business) shuts down as soon as the second from the top USB port is plugged into on the back, bottom two (2) work fine and both front do as well. What could be causing this?

Is it always the same device being connected to that USB port causing the shutdown, or is it any USB device?
Physically examine the port on the rear of PC to see if it's bent or otherwise damaged. And if it's only one device causing the crashes, examine it's USB cable or connector too.

  • Possible USB port damage using non-powered USB hub?

Referring to the recent discussion on ruining firewire ports with damaged peripherals, a related question concerning the possibility of damage to the USB port:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7948387#7948387
I have an old iPod Shuffle, USB only, and a camera card reader, both of which which get pulled and connected "on the fly" to a bus powered USB hub which is attached to one of the USB ports on the iMac. Am I risking similar damage to the iMac USB port, itself, if something goes bad on the Shuffle or the card reader? Should I be using a POWERED USB hub to avoid direct damage to the iMac USB hub? (And, assuming it will have to be USB 2.0, will it be backwards compatible to USB 1.1?)

No, my belief is that FireWire devices are more prone to damaging the circuitry behind the port due to connecting and disconnecting on-the-fly (compared to USB). There is supporting documentation on the web, for example.
    http://www.wiebetech.com/whitepapers/FireWirePortFailures.php
    http://lowendmac.com/misc/03/0421.html
    (there are many more)
Mechanical failure (wear and tear) through constant plugging and unplugging is a secondary consideration.
If your FireWire device is constantly connected, this issue does not exist (and there is no wear and tear either). On my Intel iMac, my external FireWire drive is always connected, and I use the direct port on the Mac. If I ever need to disconnect it, I shut down my iMac and then disconnect. The other FireWire port is connect to a hub, and that is where I connect and disconnect FireWire devices on-the-fly (old iPod, small bus-powered drive, and video camera).
If your iPod shuffle is the old +thumb drive+ style with the USB plug, you should be using a self-powered hub. That may be why it is not reliable. Also, that plug on the old shuffle is the most likely part to fail, so it is possible that it is getting worn out. I bought a bunch of used and reportedly broken iPod shuffle (the older white type) on eBay to see if I could fix any of them. I would say, 80% of the time, it was broken due to a faulty USB plug (no data connection). On the rare ones broken for another reason, I used that good USB plug to get another shuffle working. (A few worked after using the iPod Reset Utility, without any other repair. )
But I'm getting off topic with the shuffle talk...

  • Cannot boot from USB HD on T61 & T61P Why not?

Have bootable WD and Hitachi HDs in external USB enclosures.  Have successfully cloned one of these WD) using Acronis.  When trying to boot from the USB attached drive using PF12 and selecting the recognized drive on the boot menu get either BSOD or message unable to boot operating system.  What gives?  Know the WD will boot internally as it was the disk that came with the system.  Get the BSOD with this disk in USB port.
Hitachi give me the unable to boot operating system message when trying to boot from USB drive.
Using a TrekStor HD enclosure pn D260U20P10-3 which works fine if I boot the internal HD.  Can copy and even backup internal drive to external HD but can not boot from it.

    Hello,
As I understand it, Microsoft Windows 7 and earlier operating systems do not support booting natively from a USB Mass Storage Controller interface.  The installers do from things like USB-attached optical disc drives and flash drives, but that's not the full operating system.
Support for booting from USB in the main operating system environment might be introduced in Windows 8—I thought I read something about this, but cannot seem to find a reference right now.

    hi tony7161,
    Welcome to the forums.
It looks like there's a short somewhere when you touch that keyboard and causes the USB ports to stop. May I know what lenovo computer do you have?  Have you tried booting into safe mode (you need to press F8 upon boot-up and choose Safe Mode) to see if the issue persists?
    Let me know your findings.
    Cheers.

  • Non Responsive USB Port

I was wondering if anyone was having trouble with their USB port. I tried hooking up an external HD and it can't seem to notice the drive under the "Disks" portion of APUtility. The drive, however, does work with my AP extreme 802.11n (1st gen, not the new one). Since it works with that, then I decided to use my TC as my printer hub, then, but my Epson CX4800 does not show up under the "Printers" section of AP Utility, says there are none. Just to see if it works with my AEBS, I plug it in there and it does in fact work. Is there something I am doing wrong, or is my USB port just non-operational. Anyone know a way to test if the USB port is operational?
And before you ask. My printer does work with my computer, it does work with the AEBS, but does not work with TC. I have restarted my printer with it plugged into my TC, and I have restarted the TC with the printer plugged in. It is plugged in directly, not via a USB hub. I have tried to restore the TC setting to default and redoing my setup. I have even, not just rebooting the TC, but unplugging it and waiting more than 10 seconds, and then plugging it back in. Nothing like this helped. I assume it is either a firmware problem (has 7.4.1), or is a hardware problem (i.e. bad USB port), but I know of no way to test either hypothesis. Anyone have suggestions.

I have a similar USB problem with my printer. For some unknown reason when I turn off the USB printer it is not recognized when I turn it back on (my ethernet printer connected to TC does not have this problem). Resetting TC does not reset the USB port - when I cold boot the USB port must get a new IP number and the USB printer works fine (till I turn it off).
