Tecra S1 doesn't boot and hangs at (boot) splash screen

Tecra S1 Model PT831E-107EQ-GR
Problems started a month ago. It randomly didn't booted. After some power off/on tries it finally booted and worked properly. Because it happened more often I've bought a new hard drive (Toshiba 40 GB). I've had Acronis True Image and planned to make a disk clone to the new drive. The problem is that a notebook now doesn't boot anymore so I cannot boot it from A CD nor hard drive. It stops at "In Touch..." logo with "Press [F12] for the boot device selection menu" text and doesn't react any key. I tried to boot with no CD, no hard drive - the same. I also connected internal HD using ATA-To-USB adapter - the same. Does it mean that's not a disk problem but motherboard or other components? Is it possible to enter BIOS before boot selection screen?
Regards,
Jacek

Problem solved. There was a broken PCB under the CPU socket. I've found that pressing with my finger and holding CPU while booting allowed to startup the system while releasing the finger caused system hanging and its total crash. Our local service tried to repair it but with no success. Finally two days ago we've found a working motherboard (a used one) for about 200 USD and now I'm waiting for installing it in the laptop. Th regular price for a new one (about 400 Euro) is too much, but 200 USD is OK. I do like the laptop because of its ports (LPT, RS232). It's used for programming and controlling some older devices. Newer laptops have no LPTs nor RS232s and it's not easy to find a working USB adapter because the software we're using is even from DOS times and has hard-coded IRQs for those ports.
Anyway, I hope it'll back from the service fresh and new, and of course working ;)
Thank you for your tips.
Regards,
Jacek

  • My iq522 doesn't start and staying on start up screen without proceeding to boot process.

    HP IQ522PL Model No. NF369AA
    Windows Vista 64-bit
    No error message.
No changes made to the computer/software before the problem occured.
The problem is as described in the subject - the PC stays on start up blue HP screen and doesn't proceed into booting process.
No F-key commands is active, when I press for Menu or Setup option it just inform that its loading but nothing is happening.
I don't hear any noise of the disk.
What can I do to fix it and turn the PC to boot and start loading Windows system ?
Thanks in advance for any valuable advise on that.

    Hi,
I've unpluged the HDD and turned on the PC. It then moved from HP blue screen into black screen with the following message:
"Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key"
If I'm interpretating it right, it just confirming that doesn't see the hard drive and therefore the boot file is not found.
If this conclusion is right then maybe the boot file is missing and I need to load it some how, then.
Can you advise what your interpretation is and what should be my next move to diagnose the issue and finally fix it.
Looking forward for good advise on that.
    Regards,
    Konrad.

  • Pavilion a6700f hangs on HP Splash Screen, but does boot up after 10 minutes

    I've got a new (2 months old) Pavilion a6700f
Everything was working fine the first six weeks
Not sure what triggered this, but now, when I try to start / restart the computer
It gets to the HP splash screen and just hangs there for over 5 minutes (literally)
Then it goes to a black screen for another 3 minutes or so,
Till it finally says its loading Windows, where it boots into Vista 64 and all is working
I was thinking its something going on with the BIOS
So I downloaded one from HP, old bios was 5.28, "new" one is 5.17 (that is what it has now)
This had no impact on the 10 minute boot up
    Anyone have any ideas?

When you don't have the BIOS update for download then it is not possible to get it from any where.
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

  • Vado doesn't boot up / stuck in the splash screen

My recently bought Creative Vado HD doesn't boot anymore - I press the power button and I only see the red led blink for a second. Before this it used to turn on, but wouldn't get out of the splash screen "VADO HD". (and it wouldnt turn off, only if I took out the battery)
The camera has frozen sometimes before, but then I would take the battery out and put it in again to have it working ok. Now reinsertingthe battery doesnt fix it.
If I connect the vado to the pc, it just shows the splash screen and doesnt boot or even charge the battery (I left it connected ov3ernight but It didnt charge the battery, It just killed it because it stayed all night showing the splash screen. - and thats why , i think, it only shows the red light blink instead of showing the splash screen when i try to turn the camera on.
I dont know if this issue might have triggered the problem but here it is:
minutes before vado died I connected the vado to my vizio tv and watched some videos. Then I pulled the hdmi cable and connected the camera to the pc. I noticed it wasnt detected at all -- the vado was stuck in the splash screen.
i cant install a firmware or anything else because the camera is not detected and is stuck in the splash screen.

    Hi Setmedown,
It sounds like something is wrong with the Vado HD, if you have not already I would suggest contacting our Customer Support.

  • Satellite Pro L300-1FN does not boot - hangs at BIOS splash screen

My Satellite pro L300-1FN is refusing to boot up. When switched on the laptop displays the toshiba/insyde H20 BIOS splash screen and the "Press F2 go to Setup Utility, F12 go to boot menu" message and flashes the hard disk access light but does not attempt to continue loading. I have left the bios at the splash screen but it does nothing for many hours on AC or runs the battery flat while on battery.
Is there a way of re-setting the BIOS on this unit? If it were a desktop unit I would remove the CMOS battery to force a BIOS reset but this is impossible on a laptop. The hard disk is fine as I have connected it to another system to remove valuable data.

*I managed to fix this issue* ,,, thanks to some other dudes on other forums
What i did was Format a Floppy disk as MS-DOS boot using a Windows XP PC and USB floppy drive, then downloaded the latest BIOS for my L300-1BW laptop model, copied *.fd bios image to the floppy disk and renamed it to BIOS.fd.
Connect FDD to the toshiba laptop with out AC connected. Held Power button for 12 seconds, connected AC adapter, then held Fn+F, powered on , and kept the Fn+F keys held down for about 10 seconds into the reading of the floppy drive just to be sure, then let go. The screen was black throughout the process. I left this for a few minutes, or until it had finished, the laptop rebooted itself, and voila, it now goes passed the TOSHIBA POST logo screen :)
I hope this helps others with Toshiba Laptops. should work for any Toshiba laptop.

  • IMac G5 boots, and then goes to black screen

This is not my iMac, but a friend who is using this that she got from here son who upgraded to an Intel iMac. The hardware is a G5 20 iMac. I don't have any more information since it wont power on....or have the installation disks...
The symptoms are that the machine will power on, "bong" show the blue apple screen, then the spinning lines and then suddenly a black screen and nothing more. I booted to single user via Command-S and ran fsck to ensure the disk was clean. Ir reported no errors, but halfway through the check the fans came on full. Only having experienced an Inetl iMac's fans, they were very load. When the fsck finished (with no errors) the fans turned off again. When i exitied the shell to reboot, the same thing happened again. Black screen and not repsonse.
The fact that I can get to single user shell and check the disks points to most of it working, but I'm confused as to why it gets no further.
ANy help would be appreciated as she want to migrate from her current PC based workflow to a more reliable(!) one, but this isn't helping....
    Thanks,
    Jimmy

Thanks to the responders for their input. I was fearing the worst. However, it looks like the issue wasn't as serious as a broken capacitor. I don't understand why the following worked, as it's not as if the machine was always not working, but just started.
As part of the diagnostic process, the back was opened and then the memory reseated. After reboot this still failed. Then Command Option O F to get into open firmware and then
    reset-nvram
    set-defaults
    reset-all
and the machine rebooted and came up again.
So far there have been no problems, but it looks like this was the fix.

  • Pavillion Elite e9120y Hangs at HP splash screen, I've tried it all...

About a month ago I came home to find my PC stuck on the HP splash screen. After hours of trial and error I managed to repair the boot sectors by manually inputing codes into a command prompt. Unfortunately, I had to go to work immediatly after. When i returned, the screen was stuck at the splash screen again, and I haven't seen windows yet..
This desktop is about 2 years old now (no longer under warantee), although its relatively lightly used. At the time of failure it was running Vista 64 Bit. None of the hardware has been ugraded/modified in any way.
Only sometimes can I reach any of the splash screen menus (BIOS, Diagnostics, etc). These actions, and reaching the post screen, can only be executed by unplugging the power cord from the PSU for X amount of time (usually 5-10 mins, which is annoying to do EVERY time..)
    Things I've tried:
-Removing all plugged in components except the stock keyboard and monitor
    -Re-seating all of the components/wires
-Tested Mobo (removed memory, it beeped and made me happy ha)
-Individually seated each RAM stick in each slot.
    -Repairing boot sectors
    -Removing CMOS battery to reset
-Removing biult in media card reader (rare, yet prospectable issue)
-Many of the things in the recovery disk
-Removing USB ports from Mobo incase of short circuit (I think I did that correctly..)
    Notes:
-Ever since I was able to first repair the boot sectors, my PC will NOT make it to the Windows Recovery Environment (The disk reading progress will freeze at a random spot on the progress bar and will not complete)
-Diagnostics froze after the Memory test completed
-*cringes* I have not backed up ANYTHING due to lack of funds for an external HD (though I've purchased one now incase I make it to my OS), so reformatting is really not an option.. Too many important school documents
-I have close to 10 years of intermediate software/hardware building/troubleshooting experience, but there are still many things that I do not know or may have overlooked! Any help is appreciated!
-*Sometimes* the post screen/BIOS does not display my 2 optical drives and/or my 1 hard drive device
-It's new favorite thing to do is say "Reboot and select proper media device," even though my boot order is correctly set in BIOS
    Quick recap:
-HP Elite 9120y Vista 64 bit
-Cannot boot to Windows (most commonly hangs at splash screen)
-I've tried as much as I can think of/find online, and I'm tearing my hair out. Any help would be amazing!
I'm sure I missed something, though I tried to cover it all for anyone willing to help. PLEASE!!!!
    Thanks,
    -Andrew

Well I knew that there were quite a few problems with mobos used by HP, but I was unaware of the lawsuit. Unfortunately, its far past its warrantee. It's just unfortunate because all of the components are in great shape and it was treated very well. And aside from Windows Vista, it performed great all along until the day it decided to do this. I have literally tried everything, the next step is diagnosis from my computer engineering friends hah. You'd think being a student at a tech school would aid my effort.  So far, no help..
There appear to be as many solutions to this problem as people walking the planet.. and none of them work!
Anyone who has fixed this problem please leave any information. Even if I have already tried that and it didn't solve my problem, it's worth a second shot. This computer was not cheap!

  • ESXi install hangs at install splash screen

I found this exact issue being described on VMware's message board below and it's referncing firmware updates.
Has anyone else seen this and what was your fix?
    http://communities.vmware.com/thread/325678

I don't know which firmware you are running, but I ran into an issue with USB legacy support in the BIOS that would cause ESXi to hang on boot.  It didn't do it on all the blades.....
Here is a link that discusses it..... not sure if this is what you are running into this issue or not....
The fix is to disable Legacy USB support in the BIOS.

  • VS013 Hangs on the Splash Screen

When opening Visual Studio 2013 from the Task Bar (Windows 7), the application will show the splash screen then hang. Nothing happens and the splash doesn't disappear. The only way to close it from this point is to terminate from task manager.
Strangely, it never happens when I'm opening a solution, only if I try to open a new instance of VS without a solution (and annoyingly, occassionally even that will work).
This also happened with VS2012. It also happens if I try to Merge Changes to the TFS Power Tools dialog.
I've tried disabling extensions, and also using /ResetSettings, but I have been unable to determine a consistent cause for this.
How can I determine the exact cause of the hang?

    Hi ObsidianPhoenix,
    >>Nope, didn't make a difference. it's still happening. Both from the start menu, and from the pinned shortcut.
    >>Strangely, it never happens when I'm opening a solution, only if I try to open a new instance of VS without a solution (and annoyingly, occassionally even that will work).
If it still has this issue, could you tell me how you use it to open a solution in your side? You said that it worked well when you open a solution, do you mean that you start it from the pinned shortcut or start menu? If you open it as the admin from the
start menu, how about the result?
To make sure that whether it is the add-ins' issue, please run your VS in safe mode.
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms241278.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
If it works well in safe mode, I'm afraid that it is related to the add-ins or the extension tools. You'd better disable or remove all add-ins in your VS IDE.
In addition, you said that the VS2012 still had this issue, do you install the two VS versions in the same windows? Please make sure that your window has the enough configurations for two VS high version. When you open it, please also make sure that your
    task manager if free.
Please also close all third party software like anti-virus or others.
    Best Regards,

  • Hangs at windows splash screen

hi, , just recently about a month ago i built a machine as described below, when i first installed windows, everything was lightning quick and there were no delays and boot time was around 30 seconds with about 4 programs at startup, now i have downloaded windows sp1 and networked my computer, but at windows splash screen the screen goes black for a couple of seconds and boot time now takes about 40-45 sec, even though my router for networking is turned off and i have removed any other programs that shouldnt be there through msconfig, please could you advise?
    amd 64 3200+ clawhammer

    80gb wd ata133 8mb buffer hd
    msi k8t neo fsr
    herculees 9800 pro

boot time depends alot of what you install.
you may also need to defrag the harddrive.
    check for viruses/trojans/worms
    use lavasoftware adware
    spybot search & destroy
and a good virus program for example grisoft avg6 its free

  • Lightroom won't boot -I only get the splash screen for a second.

I do have the photographers version of the Creative Cloud which included Photoshop CC 2014 and Lightroom. Everything was working just fine until I upgraded to Lightroom version 5.6. Now when I try to load LR, the slash screen shows for a second then disappears and LR does not load. This occurs on both my Mac (a Mac Pro and a iMac). I uninstalled LR and had creative cloud reinstall but still the same thing is happening  - Splash screen for a second then nothing. Again, this is happening on both Mac's. Photoshop CC 2014 I working just fine.
Before I call Adobe, any ideas here on this issue. BTW, Creative Cloud App states LR in up to date and installed.
    Thanks
    James

  • PRE crash and now stuck at splash screen - HELP!!

I was working on a small project (5 mins) a couple of sound tracks and was moving one to different location and PRE crashed - now when I open the program up the splash screen is blurred and I can't select anything except the 8.01 update and those things - HELP - project due in 4 hours!!

    Eric
With regard to the original desktop icon which targets Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0.exe
    a. if you do not have the program open via Adobe Premiere Elements.exe and you have closed the program that got opened to the Welcome Screen with Adobe Premiere Elements.exe, and if you go back to the Task Manager/Processes,
DO YOU SEE ANY INSTANCES OF "ADOBE PREMIERE ELEM,,," IN THE LIST OF PROCESSES THERE? If the answer is no, then I do not think that you have to worry unless you have a compelling need for the Welcome Screen. Just my point of view, but the only reasons for it being seem to be:
    a. For Adobe to monitor (track) your activities
    b. Quick access to photoshop.com
    c. Be kept up to date with Adobe Ads
You should have full control of your Premiere Elements projects using Adobe Premiere Elements.exe to open the program without the Welcome Screen. I just wanted to make sure that there is no evidence that you have 2 instances of the program being open at the same time.
If you look at the processes opening using Process Explorer Sysinternals, you will note
    a. if you click on the icon that targets Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0.exe, the first process that opens is Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0.exe, followed by Adobe Premiere Elements.exe and what looks like PhotoshopServer.exe. After Adobe Premiere Elements.exe and PhotoshopServer.exe appear, the Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0.exe disappears from the scene leaving the other 2 processes as the running processes.
    b. if you click on the icon that targets Adobe Premiere Elements.exe, Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0.exe never appears, just direct to Adobe Premiere Elements.exe and PhotoshopServer.exe which remain as the running processes.
I am not sure what happened to your Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0.exe file. But I do not see that you need it to move forward in your projects. I would be curious to know the whys, but is it worth it on your time schedule?

  • Very slow boot and hanging after login.

About 2 days ago I put my Mac to sleep by closing the lid. The next day, after waking it up and logging in, I opened Firefox. Then I got the beachbubble which lasted for awhile but then firefox opened. Then I closed Firefox because the beachbubble had me worried, but after closing it I got another beachbubble. I held the power button on my macbook because the whole OS seemed locked up.
Now whenever I boot, I stay at the apple logo screen for atleast 10 minutes, then when I finally reach login, whenever I click on something I get a beachbubble for awhile. If I do login, it seems to hang at the default wallpaper screen, but I can move my mouse.
I don't remember updating or installing anything that might cause problems like this, but I'd like to do a time machine restore back a couple days, however I can't get to my desktop.
    Thanks in advance.
I did try resetting the PRAM and NVRAM, twice atleast, I tried Safe Boot, I tried Verbose and Single-User mode. With my experience I couldn't do much in either, however I did type"exit" in Single-User mode, and when "DSMOS has arrived.", nothing happened.
Oh, and I can't boot with only power without the battery, because I have a non-removeable battery, atleast, only Apple is supposed to touch it.

Restart the system from the SL disc you have. If you aren't sure how to do that put it into the DVD drive and restart the computer holding down the Option key, when it comes up choose the disc in the DVD drive. If it attempts to install let it until it gets to the choose language. Once you are on that screen then click the Utilities menu and choose Disk Utility. Once DU is running then choose the internal HD and look for the S.M.A.R.T status. If it says Verified that is a good sign, if it says anything else kiss the HD goodbye. I hope you have a good back up of your system because you will need to replace the internal HD. If the machine is still covered by warranty or AppleCare then contact Apple and arrange for a repair. If the S.M.A.R.T status says the internal HD is Verified then choose Repair Disk, you may have to run this numerous times for it to be repaired.

  • Macbook pro 13 20 min boots and hangs

I got this in dec of 09 and its been great until now. Its taking like 20 mins to boot up and everything is so slow once it does. Ive tried disc utility, no errors. I put it into vebrose mode snd its saying somthing about convert launchd dashboardadvisory.plist. im reinstalling mac os on it and it said it would take 45 mins, its been 3 hours and its on 15 mins remaining. its going a min ever 20 mins or so.
any ideas? before i make a 3 hour trip to the apple store AGAIN!
Its sad i have to use a windows puter to ask about my apple =(

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I would recommend restarting the computer from the Install disc that came with the computer and running Disk Utility. You do this by restarting with the disc in the Superdrive and holding down the Option key. It should look for the disc in the Superdrive and boot. Let it go through the install process until it gets to the point it asks which language you want, at that point stop and using the Utilities menu choose Disk Utility. Run Repair Disk Permissions and then run Repair Disk. If Repair Disk reports errors run it several times until it doesn't. If the disk is damaged it will let you know.
One last thing, is how full is your internal HD, it should have a minimum of 10-15% available disk space in order for your machine to run well. If you have filled it up you will need to remove data files onto an external HD.
    Good luck,
    Roger

  • MBP slow to boot and WILL NOT boot from external drive

I have two problems. First my friends MacBook Pro which is less than a month old is taking long to load. So I did a clean install without installing anything other than what came. Still slow to boot. Sometimes I see a light blue screen for a while before getting into the desktop. She complains of the beachball far too often. She says my MacBook is faster than her Pro, which is not right.
So I came down with my external LaCie drive, which I cloned from my iMac 24". I wasn't able to boot from the external (firewire) drive using her MacBook Pro. I thought my LaCie drive was bad or soemthing, but when I got home, I hooked it up to my MacBook and booted from the external drive just fine. I use SuperDuper to make a bootable clone.
So as it stands now, her computer is slow to boot into the OS, and it won't let me boot from my external drive. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I did a clean install, used cocktail, etc. If it persists, I'll tell her to take it in.
    Thanks,
    Bryan
