Tecra S3: battery fully discharged if it's off for one week

I´ve got a Tecra S3:
Intel® Centrino? Mobiltechnologie Intel® Pentium® M Prozessor 760
XP Pro/ 1024 DDR2/ 80GB/ 15.0" TFT/ DVD-Super-Multi(DL)/ Wi-Fi
Mostly I work with ac power. Only sometimes I need the battery.
But when I use the battery, discharge it fully.
After that the battery is charged over night.
When my S3 is off for one week,
my battery is fully discharged and the S3 needs ac power.
Is that normal?
Why is my battery fully discharged
if the S3 is off for only one week.

Hi
The fact is that battery looses the energy also if the notebook is disabled.
Im not sure about the time and how long should it takes.
The same thing happens on my old Satellite A50.
I thing it depends from the battery performance and how old the battery is.

  • ThinkPad E455 Battery Reduced to 80% when Power Off in One Week

Previously, I have a problem with my relatively new ThinkPad E455 battery. The battery drains when the laptop is powered off (see https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-11e-Windows-E-and-Edge/ThinkPad-E455-Excessive-Battery-Drains-When-Power-Off/m-p/2105732 ). I have updated my BIOS and power manager to overcome the problem.
Recently, I was on a holiday and I turned off my laptop for one week. Before I turned off my laptop, the battery gauge shows 100% of battery capacity. Today, when I turn on my laptop, the battery gauge shows 80% of battery capacity, even though I did not use the laptop for seven consecutive days. The power drains is not as excessive as the previous one as I described in https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-11e-Windows-E-and-Edge/ThinkPad-E455-Excessive-Battery-Drains-When-Power-Off/m-p/2105732 but this problem really bothers me. Is there something wrong with the battery? Or perhaps some other configuration? FYI, I have updated the BIOS to the latest version.

At this point I have to assume one of very few possibilities: 1. The 1.17 BIOS fix for power to the USB ports doesn't work, 2. The Computrace code in the BIOS is waking the laptop up daily to call its manufacturer's server, or 3. Something else on the motherboard remains powered and causes the leakage. Our E555 isn't left powered off for long so we haven't noticed the problem. To eliminate the above possibilities, you could try removing the battery after switching the E455 off and replacing it when you need to switch the laptop back on. This would tell you if the battery discharges even when removed from the laptop. If it does, the battery is probably faulty, lithium batteries are usually good at retaining their charge.I hope that the newer BIOS version will be released soon. As for number 2, what does "The Computrace code in the BIOS is waking up the laptop..." mean? Can I disable it? It will be good if nothing is waking up my laptop when it is off.
I am considering to remove the built-in battery (ThinkPad E455 only has one battery, and it is built-in), but the user manual says that the battery removal should be done by a technician. I am afraid that removing the battery myself can cause a damage and violating the warranty (my laptop is less than 6 months old). If there is a user manual or videos or anything helpful about removing the built-in battery for ThinkPad E455, perhaps I will try it.

  • Iphoto won't fully open after computer being off for two weeks.

After being gone for two weeks I came back home, turned on my computer and tried to load some pictures I had taken into IPhoto.  I opened the program but in only partially opened and all I get is the spinning pinwheel.  After waiting several minutes for the program to finish loading I finally had to force quit it.  After several attempts I gave up.  I've downloaded all updates and don't know what else to do.  I'm wondering if the most recent update is for Lion and I'm still running Snow Leopard.  Could that be the problem.  I've sent the reports to Apple but of course won't receive any response.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

i have the same problem, only mine doesn't have enough power to even turn on again, so i don't know about your case, but i'm pretty sure if it just says charging for that long it isn't even doing it. I left mine on for a night and a half then watched 20 minutes of video and now can't do anything with it. Someone figure this out and help us both.

  • Battery FULLY discharged overnight

Good Morning everyone! yesterday I fully charged my Ipad Mini Retina 16 GB IOS 7.1.2 , I used it for some minutes and I put in in standby mode for the night. This morning I woke up and the battery was FULLY discharged, I had to recconnect my ipad to the charger and now it seems that it is charging properly.
What is happened? do I have to get worried? because my Ipad is still under the international warranty, is it better if I check with an Apple Store? Somebody else got the same problem? how did you solve it?
thanks for your answers and feedbacks,
    Stefano

Push email has always used a lot of battery as it trys to keep an IP connection open to the email server. Using Chattermail (on a Palm Treo) the Push settings had several optimizations that could be used to lessen the update frequency, not try to push when the signal was weak, etc. Even with those settings enabled, I had to recharge that (extended) battery every 36 hours or so.

  • IPad battery fully discharged and now will not take a new charge

I've had this baby plugged in for 6 hours and it won't even charge to 10%.  I am using an Apple supplied cord and charger.

Plug the USB cable into your computer. The iPad will say "Not Charging", however, it will charge but slowly.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Battery fully discharging while idle and plugged-in ...

I've had a new "standard" mid-2011 MBA 13-inch, 128GB,  since Monday (three days of use), and I'm encountering an issue where I can't seem to get any AC (chargers) to work reliably. I was using the system today, for example, until about noon, with the AC plugged-in, the battery fully-charged, and apparently working. I had a conference call in another room, and when I came back two hours later, the system had shut itself off, and no light on the AC cord. System would not even power on. I unplugged everything, moved the AC cord to another outlet (first one is perfectly fine!), plugged it in, and the system started up, but the battery showed 2% charge - after two hours of inactivity while plugged-in. Sounds like something is seriously wrong either with this new MBA/or accessories, or a bug in Lion. I did migrate from an older MBA, so I wonder if I've migrated some setting that is causing problems ... Any ideas are appreciated! Michael

  • My Ipod Touch drained battery, I then didn't use it for a week, went to charge it and I get nothing, only a black screen.  HELP!!! It is not the cord, I tried it on other products and the usb cord works fine.  I need to charge so I can use.

My battery drained on my Ipod Touch.  I did not end up using it for a week. Yesterday I charged it with my USB to the computer, came back the next morning and it was still dead.  I then tried charging it on my laptop....same thing.  Went through the tech support things about holding the two buttons down for system restore....nothing.  Please HELP.

Give it time. Even plugged in the battery needs to have a certain amount of power to power the screen.
Leave it on the charger for a couple of hours and hten see if it'll turn on.

  • Battery fully discharged and won't RECHARGE

I used my battery until it auto-shutoff. I was unable to recharge the laptop for 3 days due to a power outage at my house. Now the battery will not be recognized by the Macbook and will not charge. I have already tried to "reset" the system and have tried the solutions given by Apple.com. What should I do to get the battery to charge?

The Mac should shut down to protect the battery, and even after a prolonged discharge period should be recoverable.
Physically remove the battery from the Mac in order to "make and break" the connections, which will clean the terminals, as well as totally disconnecting it from it's host. Then replace and try recharging it once more.
    Good luck.

  • MBP battery fully discharging  with the lid shut down overnight

I have noticed that even with the lid shut down the battery drains out in a few hours on a full charge which was not the case a few days ago. Secondly my MBP will not go into a sleep mode when i try to do so thru the remote, the screen goes blank for a few second then back again.
I did the last battery update.
Energy saver is on default setting.
No third party application is installed to do scheduled tasking.

    Hi
I have notices the following in my MBP too, thanks for the info. So now I have bigger issue's
    A. battery drain out in sleep mode.
    B. MBP not restoring itself but restarting.
After the battery update the safe sleep mode seems to have been disabled, on a complete battery drain out the MBP restarts dose not restore itself to stage when the lid was shut down as its supposed to do so from the contents of RAM image in the file /private var vm sleep-image
I have noticed a lot of users suggesting to change the hibernation-mode to 0 from 3 and nvramrc to false from true thru terminal command. What are the consequence of the same with regards to the links to it and is it good to go about changing the default settings?
One pays a good amount for a 15"MBP not to forget the add on's for stability, durability and usability. I give the MBP 100 in 100 in durability & usability, but its lacking in stability too many issues with regards to hardware or software.

  • Does it harm the battery if the macbook stays turned off for a few months?

I might be in a situation where I will not use my macbook for a few months. A family member may use it occasionally, but it would be turned off most of the time. Does this hurt the battery or other aspects of computer performance?

From the User Manual: "Storing your MacBook If you are going to store your MacBook for an extended period of time, keep it in a cool location (ideally, 71° F or 22° C) and discharge the battery to 50 percent. When storing your computer for longer than five months, discharge the battery to approximately 50 percent and then remove it from your MacBook. To maintain the capacity of the battery, recharge the battery to 50 percent every six months or so."

  • Maximum battery life obtained on an iPhone for one charge cycle?

    Hi all,
I wanted to know what is the maximum battery life anyone obtained on an iPhone for one charge cycle? What is the average? I managed to get 4 hours of access time (Phone and Internet) and 2 days standby and wanted to know what the average is.

I tried to limit my phone usage to only calls and occasional mail check (I pop mails once an hour), and the best I could get till now for that has been 4 hours and 40 minutes. Took care to reduce the brightness to 70% and always lock the phone (by pressing the Sleep/Wake button), removed keyboard clicks and disabled wireless network availibility. Is 4 hours talk time + internet alkong with maybe 2 days standby a decent figure to expect for the iPhone performance?

  • After a year of no use and a fully discharged battery, my MacBook Pro refuses to accept the administrator name and the password. How can I reset these?

After a year of no use and a resulting fully discharged battery, the MacBook Pro refuses to recognize the administrator name and password (both). It has system OS X 10.6 which can not be upgraded without the information. How can I reset or reistall the administrator name and password?

Thanks to all who responded. You are all absolutely correct. However, this Ipad was a gift to my wife who was dying of cancer in the hospital and wanted some entertainment. So I started it out with her Apple ID. After she passed away I moved from Sacramento to Austin and eventually proceeded to get the Apple ID changed from my wife's to mine. Meanwhile when she was in the hospital I opened an Itunes account in my name to buy movies for her. That was the first mistake.
Then during the move to Austin I lost track of the IPAD and later found it and tried to use support but could not remember the proper ID. Later the folks at the Apple store helped me create a new and novel Apple ID that was unfortunately unlike any other.
The botom line is that I am stuck with three Apple IDs and three passwords. I am told by Apple there is nothing they can do about this as IDs cannot be changed or destroyed. I can quit using them or start a new account but when I try to do that the system keeps remembering too many things from the past and resists.
Even if I sold this Ipad and bought a new one, the system memory is still there.
I think the real problem is that destop and laptop computers are totally owned by an individual and that individual can control logins and passwords to his liking. IPADs and similar Apple products are different in that the corporation has built in their own intrusion detection schemes because of the relation to Itunes.
One thing I thought about is to open a new Itunes account pretendding to be a new customer with my regular Apple ID. Perhaps I could do the same with Apple Support.
    Thanks for your comments.
