hi
my laptop posts the error " select bay error" during boot sequence and no opical drive is showing in windows xp
have done a full restore from the recovery partition with same result please advise thanks

tried and still not seeing
heres my result so far :
downloaded and installed latest bios
done full reinstall of windows from the recovery partition
set bios and tried to boot from optical drive but windows boots from harddrive
dvd opens and closes and if you insert a dvd it spins up...
trawled the net for solutions...
posted questions on various tek sites on net
and contacted toshiba service agent they reply with "

Once we receive your machine, we book it into our diagnostic queue. Once the engineer has done the initial diagnosis, you will be quoted for the cost of any repairs needed. Select Bay Error on Tecra M5

Hi,
I have a Tecra M5 (M5L - Core [email protected] GhZ, RAM 1GB, HDD 100 GB). As I bought it it had only a CD-RW/DVD Combo, it could only read dvds and burn cds. So I bought a DVD burner from Nec (Optiarc DVD RW AD-7543A).
But now when I turn the lappy on just after the "Toshiba" screen, appears a message "Select Bay Error", and then when Windows (XP Pro) starts, it doesn't recognize the drive, it simply doesn't appear and the drive doesn't eject either when I push the button.
The strange thing is that when I pull the drive out, and plug it in (while Windows is running) immediately it's recognized and I can use it without any problem, I can read and burn CD/DVDs. It just doesn't recognize it when the pc starts, but only when windows is running. I have the latest BIOS update and drivers.
I've also tried with another burner, from Toshiba, but it gives the same error.
Can anyone help me?

just one question: does the drive which was previously in your machine still working normally?
If yes, then the DVD-burner is probably not compatible or is recognized as a "Secondary Slave" drive, which causes that the drive does not work properly. The drive must be configured as "Secondary Master" to be properly recognized but this must be done either with a firmware update or a trick but I dont really know how to do it.
You must google a bit around (the best would be to type the model name of your drive) or search this forum for similar topics. The keywords would be "Secondary Slave" and "jumpering dvd drive" or something similar.

Tecra 8000: Selectable bay lock key unlocked?!

When I turn on my notebook, I get an error "selectable bay lock key unlocked" Does anybody know what this means and what I have to do ?!
(I'm sorry.. I don't know anything about computers and stuff..)

It is not important which drive you have. The fact is that your unit has select bay module. If you don't have CD-ROM maybe you have floppy drive or maybe second HDD. Anyway check please that this select bay module is in right position and that secondary select bay lock button is also in right position. Like Silas already said try to remove this drive and put it again into place till you hear when the select bay make a clicking noise. If this happen the drive is in right position and everything should be ok.
If the problem persists I presume that selectable bay lock key is not in right position. Check it please (bottom side near the module)!

Tecra M5 - Is it possible to install another OS on slim select bay HDD

Is it possible to install another OS on slim select bay HDD (besides the one that is on the native HDD).
I am planning to add a slim bay HDD to my Tecra M5.

Although I can't vouch for the procedure myself, I don't see why not. If you can install two or more OSes on a single drive on separate partitions, then it should work on an additional HDD as well, in my opinion.
Another question is what OS, and what is going to manage the boot sequence. For example, Microsoft XP setup wipes out GRUB, so you need to install Linux after XP. Two MS OSes usually coexist just fine together, but to be on the safe side it doesn't hurt if the later (by release date) OS is installed second.

What select bay does Tecra M10 use

Does anybody know what kind of select bay (slim, ultra slim, very fat or what) uses the "new" Tecra M10 and can tell me where that info is written on an Official Toshiba web site...
Tip: do not waste time downloading the Toshiba spec sheet, its not there, do not waste time downloading the User guide; it is not there either....

Tecra M5: Need HDD adaptor for a Slim Select Bay

I bought the Tecra M5 last week and I am very happy with it, however I also purchased the Slim SelectBay HDD Adapter (part number PA3134U-2ETC)
I already have a hard disk to go inside it, but on arrival I have found that they are not compatible and I need a caddy / adaptor plate to make the whole thing work!
Does anybody have any ideas of an after market copy?
I have spent the last 4 hours of the day on the phone to various departments within Toshiba and suppliers, none of which appear to be able to help. I am going to spend 280 on a 100GB HDD, when a 120 gig on its own is only 120, I think 160 for the elusive plate / caddy is a bit too expensive!

The one you want is the FK-TOS-8100 it's for the Tecra range but it also fits the M100, Portege 4010 and most importantly PA3134U Slim select bay. It's comes complete with the connecting pin protector and screws - but it should for 45.00 + VAT!!! The packaging on the one I bought is marked as "ITS P/N TOS8100 Brkt, Assy, Toshiba Tecra 8100 Series HDD 12mm Caddy" if you want to googlet for a cheaper clone!

Same issue here in WI and for me it was at 6:36p CST.
I'm changed my password, removed iCloud from my phone ... tried 3G and WIFI with no luck. I also cannot check it on my Mac or iPad. I was able to get contacts and calenders back on my phone but no mail yet.

EDIT: Question: are all of you former MobileMe users as well? Just wondering because I know there were going to be some changes as they completely move MobileMe over to iCloud and drop the "extra" services. I just can't remember if it was just a single cut off date or a series of dates. THAT email is stuck in my iCloud folders.

Satellite Pro 6070 Slim Select Bay Drive won't regonize CDs

I have a problem with my Slim Select Bay DVD drive. The disc motor is running and the laser unit is moving, but it won't recognize any disc until I flip the whole notebook on the right side.
Then after a few attempts with opening and closing the drive, the drive reads the disc at most times. So i think it's a problem with the contacts inside the notebook because windows does recognize it everytime.
Has anyone here any idea how to solve it?

Sorry but I don't understood your question. Obviously there is contact problem and how you think that you can solve it.
If someone write here that you should disassemble whole notebook and check or maybe clean contacts do your really want to do this?

ALV Filter Selection w/ error "WBS element 0000000000000000 does not exist"

In a few ALV reports, we have WBS Element column showed in ALV list and WBS Element defined as type BSEG-PROJK, which has conversion routine ABPSP.
When WBS Element is used for ALV list Filter, in Selection screen, error message "WBS element 0000000000000000 does not exist" is pop up as we hit Enter key or click on u201CSelection optionsu201D button with no value entered in Input fields.
We get same error even after we enter an existing WBS Element in Low selection input field and hit Enter key.
Itu2019s ok if we enter existing WBS Element value in both Low and High selection input fields.
We know we have workaround by entering both Low and High input field, and we can fix ALV reports by using character based WBS Element, such as PRPS-POSKI.
BUT, as users told me, they donu2019t have this problem before and it just happened. We checked the recent Transports and couldnu2019t see anything relevant.
Could any of you let me know if you have any clue or if thereu2019s any other way to fix it besides changing report by report.

I just installed LabVIEW 8.2 DSC-Module and tried to configure a OPC Client Instance. I get the Error "Unable to browse OPC Server from the selected machine / Error -2147221163 occurred at GetOPCServerList.vi". I have no OPC-Server installed, but is there no Demo-Server?

This issue might be related to opcenum not being registered correctly. Please follow the steps explained in this document to fix this problem.
As OPCdemo follows the OPC 1.0 standard it is not supported by the OPC client in LV DSC 8.x which supports OPC 2.0 and 3.0 servers. You can download an OPC 3.0 compliant demoserver from Matrikon.

Getting 'variable not in select list' error after extending VO

Hi,
My page is based on two VO. one VO has all transient attribute(LearnerSearchCritVO) and used to capture Search Criteria, The other VO is used for query(LearnerSearchVO).
I have exteneded LearnerSearchCritVO to add 4 new additional Transient attributes
and LearnerSerachVO and its IMPL class to add additional where clause.
After substitution and personalization when I am querying through page I am getting the following error -

java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01007: variable not in select list
The query is working fine at backend and the same thing was working fine before instance is refreshed.
I am not able to find why this error is coming.

Portege M400 select bay

I have recently acquired a 2nd hdd caddy for my toshiba m400, final upgrade is a second hdd, however the select bay refuses to see anything other than the optical drive at system boot. Windows sees everything as an ATA device and acts flawlessly, until i reboot, then repeat. I have a SATA to PATA hdd caddy, which is what i am using, and i think that this is the problem. Do i need to find an older PATA to PATA caddy for the slim bay? Is the slim bay limited to 137gb? Thing is, it also did this with my 64gb mSATA. So i think i may need to find a pata udma 133 laptop hard drive and approriate caddy., Any insight on this?.

I think you could do this.
The Portege M700 is equipped with the Toshiba Ultra Slim Bay. It allows the standard DVD muliti drive to be removed and replaced with the 2nd HDD or with a weight saver panel for a greater versatility!

Slim Select Bay HDD adapter

I put in another HDD, and wanted to use the original one (MK4021GAS) in the slim select bay (SSB) using a SSB HDD adapter. However although the manual says “insert the HDD and push forward to ensure a firm connection”, and shows a picture of this, this is not possible as the connectors on the HDD and inside the SSB HDD adapter are different. The HDD has a double row of about 30 tines/spikes, like an old serial port, and the SSB adapter has a double row of 22 flat metal rectangles, a kind of edge connector, like an old parallel port cable. Do I need to purchase some kind of additional adapter? There's no such adapter shown in the picture in the manual.
