Tecra S5 - Driver PCI-memorycontrol

I have installed the notebook Tecra S5 to Windows XP and installed all drivers but I'm missing 1 driver and that is the PCI memory controller (PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_444E&SUBSYS_444E8086&REV_01\4&22 7633DA&0&00E2)
Can someone help me with it?
Thanks,
Greetings Cemmy

PCI memory controller is Intel Turbo Memory also called Intel Flash cache logic chip, called also Robson device.
It is quite new technology designed to support new Vista capabilities.
There is no driver for it for Windows XP, because XP doesnt support the function.
This function is supported only by Vista.
So under XP just leave it unrecognized but it wont affects the system functionality.

  • Anyone have luck with wmp54g (rt2500 driver) pci wifi card?

I tried arch a few months ago but I was unable to connect to my wireless network. Has anyone had any luck yet? Just curious - I would like to use arch but I need wireless/WPA.
    thanks

I personally have no rt2500 pci, but i have got a rt2500 usb (rt2570).  have had next to _no_ success using the native rt2570 (rt2500 in you case) nor the new experimental rt2x00 from serialmonkey project.
I'm using it with ndiswrapper atm, and it's really working flawlessly.
    I'm not sure if this is also the case with the native rt2500 driver, but with ndiswrapper you need to be very verbose when connecting to the access point. This is my config;
    wlan0="dhcp"
wlan_wlan0="wlan0 essid studion channel 6 ap 00:13:46:42:65:22 key restricted s:XXXXXXXXXXXXX"
    INTERFACES=(lo wlan0)
Basicly, this is a dhcp setup, with a shared WEP key. I had to add the hardware-adress of the access-point (ap hardware-address), since it wouldn't connect otherwise.
To see the hardware-adress of the ap, just bring ra0 up, with "ifconfig ra0 up", and then "iwlist ra0".
If i were to connect with a static address i would replace wlan0="dhcp" with wlan0="wlan0 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255" or something like that. I would also  set gateway, and remove the "!". Last of all I would update /etc/resolv.conf with the address to my nameserver. (usually the router. this is automatic with dhcp)
A nice tip is to remember all those ra0 (or wlan0 in my case) statements all over the place. one mistake and network will not be brought up.

    Hi:
I would use this file.  DL but don't run it.
    http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5404560&swItemId=vc_116115_1&swEnvOid=405...
Then download and install this free file utility.
    http://www.7-zip.org/
After you install 7-zip right click on the network driver file and select 7-zip from the menu.  Have 7-zip Extract to: and let it extract the files to the folder name for easy identification.
Once you do that, you will see a Driver folder and the next folder below that E1D, then open that and find WIN7-32.
So, from the update driver prompt manually browse to: the folder 7-zip created\E1D\WIN7-32\E1D6232 and select the Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I217-LM from the list and see if the driver installs.
The folder labeled E1C only has XP drivers for the older ethernet adapters (I already looked).

  • ZBook 17 g2 - poor DPC Latency performance when running from z Turbo Drive PCIe SSD

I'm setting up a new zBook 17 g2 and am getting very poor DPC latency performance (> 6000 us) when running from the PCIe SSD. I've re-installed the OS (Win 7 64 bit) on both the PCIe SSD and a SATA HDD and the DPC latency performance is fine when running from the HDD (50 - 100 us) but horrible when running from the PCIe SSD (> 6000 us).  I've updated the BIOS and tried every combination of driver and component enabling/disabling I can think of.  The DPC latency is extremely high from the initial Windows install with no drivers installed.  Adding drivers seems to have no effect on the DPC latency. Before purchasing the laptop I found this review: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-HP-ZBook-17-E9X11AA-ABA-Workstation.106222.0.html where the DPC latency measurement (middle of the page) looks OK.  Of course, this is the prior version of the laptop and I believe it does not have the PCIe SSD.  Combining that with the fact that I get fine performance when running from the HDD I am led to believe that the PCIe SSD is the cause of the problem. Has anyone found a solution to this problem?  As it stands right now my zBook is not usable for digital audio work when running from the PCIe SSD.  But it cost me a lot of money so I'd sure like to use it...! Thanks, rgames

Hi mooktank, No solution yet but, as of about six weeks ago, HP at least acknowledged that it's a problem (finally).  I reproduced it perfectly on another zBook 17 g2 and another PCIe SSD in the same laptop and HP was able to reproduce the problem as well.  So the problem is clearly in the BIOS or with some driver related to the PCIe SSD.  It could also be with the firmware in the drive, itself, but I can't find any other PCIe drives in the 60 mm form factor.  So there's no way to see if a differnt type of drive would fix the problem. My suspicion is that it's related to the PCIe sleep states - those are known to cause exactly these types of problems because the drive takes quick "naps" to save power and there's a delay when it is told to wake back up.  That delay causes a delay in the audio buffer that results in pops/crackles/stutters that would never be noticed doing other tasks like video editing or CAD work .  So it's a problem specific to folks who need low-latency audio performance (very few apps require low latency audio - video editing, for example, uses huge buffers with relatively high latency).  A lot of desktops offer a BIOS option to disable those sleep states but no such option exists in HP's BIOS for that laptop.  In theory you can do it from within Windows but it doesn't have an effect on my system.  That might be one of those options that Windows allows you to change but that actually has no effect. One workaround is to disable CPU throttling.  That makes the CPU run at full speed all the time and, I believe, also disables the PCIe and other sleep states.  When I disable CPU throttling, DPC latency goes back to normal.  However, the CPU is then running full-speed all the time so your battery life basically goes to nothing and the laptop gets *very* hot. Clearly that is not necessary because the laptop runs fine from the SATA SSD.  HP needs to fix the latency problem associated with the PCIe drive. The next logical step is to provide a BIOS update that provides a way to disable the PCIe sleep states without disabling CPU throttling, like on many desktop systems.  The bad news is that HP tech support is not very technical, so it takes forever for them to figure out what I'm talking about.  It took a couple months for them to start using the DPC Latency checker. Hopefully there will be a fix at some point... in the meantime, I hope that HP sends me a check for spending so much time educating their techs on how computers work.  And for countless hours lost re-installing different OSes only to show that the performance is exactly the same as shown in the DPC Latency checker. rgames

  • Tecra 8200: drive will not read DVD-R or DVD+RW

    I have a Tecra 8200 running on Win98.
It has an SD-R2002 Rev A combo drive with firmware 1324.
It reads commercial DVDs OK, but will not read DVD-R or DVD+RW (booktype set to DVD-ROM) disks (I don't have any other types to try).
Is this correct or is the drive faulty?
If it is broken I would like to replace it with a DVD writer. Is there a writer that will fit this laptop?

The drive is not faulty. It is just DVD-CDRW drive, as Gipsy said.
I didnt find any info about compatible DVD burner for this unit. Problem is that this unit has no firewire or USB 2.0 ports and you can not even use external one. Maybe if you use USB 2.0 PCMCIA card.
The unit is about 5 or even 6 years old and you maybe expect too much. ;)

  • Tecra M5: DVD drive does not read these mini DVDs

Now after 1 month i have 5 mini dvds with movies and pictures which i took on 1 month vacation in diffierent countries, i tried my best but tecra dvd drive does not read these mini dvd, cd drive label appears instead dvd drive when i put mini dvd in it.
All other standard size dvds, cds working fine on it.Its complicated and as well as irritating.
    Any suggestions?
    Why its messedup?

Seems the lens cannot read this miniDVDs. Possibly the drive lens cannot calibrate and therefore the miniDVDs are nonreadable.
Try the solution from sascha. Maybe youre a lucky man and it works.
If not, try to remove the drive physically from the notebook. Reboot the notebook without the drive. The Windows and BIOS shouldnt recognize the drive.
Then shuts down again, put the drive into the notebook and boot up the unit.
The notebook should recognize the drive and should indicate the firmware again.
Im not sure if this will help you but its attemptable

  • Driver Power State Failure (BSOD) on Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit

How do I solve this? I've attached links to 3 .dmp files as is usually required to spot trends (in fact 3 BSOD's occurred in one day, and I've attached those 3 .dmp files). I've gone through other forums and discussions on this forum, and while others
had discernible traits for the BSOD, namely things like occurrences after the PC waking up from sleep, etc. For me it occurs quite randomly, during games, browsing the net, etc. and more importantly it occurs very frequently, to the point of at least 1 BSOD

These were related to your nvidia driver.  There is a known issue with the current driver (yours) on some systems.  As a work around I would install an older driver (at least 6 months older) until a less buggy driver is released.

  • How many Hard Drives ?

I've been fortunate to receive a PowerMac G4 733mhz (Digital Audio) along with a Sony 20" CRT monitor at no cost and I'm looking to get all the performance that I can out of it.
So far I've maxed out the RAM and added an iogear USB 2.0 card along with a SIIG Utra ATA 133/100 Pro controller card. The Radeon 9800 pro video card is a couple weeks away yet.
I now have a 160gb and a 60gb as master/slave on the main board, and another 160gb on the controller card in which I'm adding another 80gb to tonight.
I am wondering how many hard drives I can add before I have to start worrying about the power supply. Keep in mind that I'm going to be adding the video card in the future.
I also see that SIIG card says OSX 10.1 or later, does this mean that I cannot connect a drive that boots into OS 9 to the card? Or a drive that may have Yellow Dog Linux?
Thanks, I'd appreciate any input about this new project of mine.

    Hi-
OK, let's talk power.... This is what we have to work with (may be slightly higher depending on PSU model):
    DA 338W PSU
    +5V=20A
    +3.3V=24A
    +28V=4.04A
    +12V=8A
    -12V=0.25A
    Total on combined +3.3V and +5V =126W @32A
Of course, there is a big difference between idle and load power consumption, but I will list maximum power consumption values. Various requirements are:
ATA/100 Hard drive- Read/Write, approx. 12.8W [email protected], [email protected]
Optical Drive- Full Speed (42x) read, approx. 5.6W [email protected], 15.7W [email protected]
Memory (per 512mb DIMM) 1-3W combined 3.3V,+5V,[email protected]
PCI and AGP slots combined max +3.3V, +5V=62W, AGP (only) up to 20W
    Firewire Bus 15W+25V
    USB Bus 5v@500mA per port
    733mhz PPC processor 1.6V 15.6W (Idle) 22.0W (load)
    Fans (combined) +12V [email protected]
As for the Radeon 9800 Pro, under full load, the power requirements are:
    +5V [email protected]
    +12V [email protected]
    +3.3V(AGP) [email protected]
    +5V (AGP) [email protected]
    +12V (AGP) [email protected]
Points to consider (no particular order):
-An ATA hard drive at idle, will still pull 7.2W and at Standby, will pull 1.4W.
-Unless you are running 2 RAID sets, you would rarely, if ever, have 4 drives simultaneously in Read/Write.
-One process that will push a system to the max is disc burning. Consider CPU at load, one, possibly two hard drives at Read/Write load, and the Optical drive at load. (For all who care, this is why we don't multi-task during burning). Without multi-tasking, the graphics power draw is minimal.
-Weak point of early ATX PSU revisions was the 12V rail. The G4 PSU also has a weak +12V rail (only 8A).
(Run a dual internal RAID, and try to burn a disc..... well, you better set the machine up as a headless server.....)
-Total combined +3.3V, +5V wattage and ampherage is sufficient for most fully loaded system and bus combinations.
-The power requirements of the 9800 Pro are all within the maximum limits of the various voltage rails of the OEM PSU.
-A 237W PSU equipped Sawtooth will run without problems with two hard drives (one system, one storage), a 2.0ghz 7447 processor, USB 2.0 PCI, Radeon 9800 Pro and AC VGA fan. Additional hard drive (scratch drive), PCI cards, HDD fans and lighting overload the +12v rail for operation at load with disc burning. (we're talking about real life experience here...)
-Hard drives are heat producers, and an external firewire connected housing can allow for better overall system operation by reducing interior clutter and heat production.
-High interior temperatures reduce the ability of the PSU to cool itself, and thereby reduce it's ability to produce reliable power under load, in the heat.
-Old ATA hard drives are power hogs and hot in comparison to current SATA drives. Switching to two larger SATA drives will reduce load requirements by 3-4W per drive, as well as reduce heat production. Required use off a SATA PCI controller card eliminates the capacity restriction of the native ATA controller. Switching to SATA saves space, power, and cooling needs.
-And, final (random) thought to consider, a dual 500mhz Gigabit Ethernet (same PSU as the DA) will run two ATA drives simultaneously, burn a DVD, with a 9800 Pro installed, without any problems whatsoever. The same machine will run 3D graphics intensive games at enjoyable framerates, without problem. Internet video, on line games, etc., are all enjoyable, with reasonable performance for the given CPU speed. All uses of the machine are without problem, with the added graphics benefit provided by the 9800 Pro (Yep, another real life experience).
    Now, you decide....

Hello, awhile ago I had a virus and I messed up my computer removing it manually. Lesson learned. :/ I just reinstalled windows 7 32 bit on my computer, model number 584037-001 and I cannot connect to the internet. I installed all of the network drivers on the support portal via a flash drive, but my device manager has a yellow "!" next to the Network controller, PCI Device, and PCI Simple Communications controller.  The Ethernet controller is working fine, the network drivers on the support portal fixed them. I am at my wits end here, after reinstalling windows I thought my computer would be fine, but I am very frustrated. I need this laptop for college. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Below is the link to the driver you need.

I would need the hardware ID like you did for the PCI simple comms controller.
Try this one and if it doesn't work, then give me the hardware ID.

  • SCSI Drive R.I.P.?

    Hi all,
Well, I've been trying see if I can resuscitate my 4GB SCSI drive that has bad blocks, ("major error was found in the disk surface". Booted off the CD (OS9x), and started the Drive SetUp/Write Zeros process. Moved along normally at first, but then after about 3/4s of the way through, it stalled out. It's now been stuck in this same spot for about 3hrs now, (beach ball spinning, but progress bar is not moving).
Even though the process hasn't completed, should I reboot off the CD and try again, or is there something else I should be doing (like holding a funeral)?
    TIA,
    ~ Kathleen

    Hi Allan,
Your experience sounds similar to mine. My problem though started, (I believe), with a power surge to my system (and yup, I even had it hooked up to an APC battery/surge protector). Deceivingly so though, everything kept functioning pretty well. I ran the usual utilities:
    - Disk 1st Aid - nothing reported wrong
    - Disk Warrior - all went well here
    - Norton Disk Doctor - reported some bad blocks, but nothing out of the "norm".
    - Ran the Defrag. Everything o.k.
All seemed well again, but not too much later, when I went to do another back up, all sorts of errors started showing up - could barely get the few new files that I needed copied onto CDs. Like you, I started having problems opening Apps, so I ran the utilities again. The last one I ran (Norton Disk Doctor) ended up stalling out during the check disk phase. I let it run (spin) for a day or so...finally got the major error/bad block message - that it couldn't fix. After that, the disk just seemed to keep deteriorating and I could never again get Norton to run through the whole disk.
I'm aware of all those warnings about Norton, but I've been rather lucky with it myself for the last 7-8yrs. In this case, I don't think Norton was the culprit. I suspect rather that it was caused by a possessed transformer on the property that turned my computer into Frankenstein's laboratory.
So, (as you may have seen in my other posts looking for advice re: SCSI & SATA drives, PCI cards, etc), I had a feeling this drive was toast, but Grant kindly gave me one last "glimmer of hope tip" to try. (Today's the 1st day that I've had a block of time available to do the whole erase & reinstall dance). I was figuring that if the damage wasn't going to be too severe, and if I could resuscitate the drive, I would probably only use it as a scratch disk - no data. (I'm guessing here now that that would be an ok use for it?)
I did get a Seagate 160GB Ultra ATA drive that was on sale for about $40 - not bad!. Thought I would use it as an external back up. Considering another SCSI, but may go for the SATA WD Raptor instead for the primary internal drive.
Thanks Allan for taking the time to write about your experience. I greatly appreciate everyones feedback and advice here.
    Best regards,
    ~ Katheen
