Teeny labels & icons

Hello gang. I hope this isn't a silly complaint that can be solved easily. I'm enjoying the many features & speed of Aperture, but am very annoyed at the itsy-bitsy fonts used on the various labels & titles in the app, along with all of the tiny icons. Granted, my sixty-year-old eyes aren't what they used to be, but this is ridiculous. I'm a regular user of Photoshop-CS2 & don't have the same difficulty with it. I'm using a Apple 20-inch display, currently set at 1600 x 1000, which the browser just fits into. Any tips to help me would be greatly appreciated. Gawd, I just love the font enlarging button in Safari!

Currently there's not an easy way to enlarge the Aperture system font.
Workarounds are:
1) Get a larger monitor to run at the same resolution (kind of a waste)
2) Turn on the Universal Access system "Zoom" feature (in System Preferences). Then pressing Cmd-Option-+ (the + by the delete key) zooms in the screeen slightly - making the screen more readable. Cmd-Option-"-" to zoom out again.
If you make the Aperture window a bit smaller then #2 would work pretty easily, and when you want to see more detail in a photo you can switch to full screen to take advantage of the higher resolution. I already use the Universal Access zoom for a number of other things and like it quite a lot since it's so easy to activate. Note that the keys are very similar to the Loupe zoom though so you may find yourself getting a bit confused!
Also, submit a request through the Aperture feedback form (from the Aperture menu) for the ability to choose larger system fonts, actually temporary enlargement ala Safari would be nice. I actually like the smaler default fonts Aperture has myself but I realize many others would like to be able to make them larger as well and think it would be a nice ability.

• Pie Chart legend label icon

Hi, is it possible to change the label icons of a Pie Chart legend? I have a pie chart with genre distribution % and would like to set the male and female genre icons instead of the color.
Thank you

Hello Pedro,
in general you can' t change the label icons in SSRS - I assume you mean with "label icons" the small colored rectangles indicating each of the sections in a pie chart. But I have a workaround for you: Simply not to use the build-in labeling mechanism
of the chart, but to create an individual textbox with the needed symbols for your purposes. In that textbox you have to set an expression for showing the needed male or female symbols as Unicode-chars. There's a text function for that, I mean something like
"=ChrW(&XXX)" is the appropriate expression. XXX has to be the character string of the Unicode-chartset, if you want e.g. the male symbol as an icon. Unfortunately, I can't post links, but it's quite easy to find via Bing or Google the needed
chars or signs in the Unicode-Table (use e.g. "Unicode table" as search string and you find a great site for retrievaling chars and symbols in the Unicode-Table).
Generally spoken, I wouldn't use pie charts at all, normally bar charts are the better choice in visualizing data - with bar charts it's easier to recognize skales than in a pie chart and you can often label bars in a direct way, so you don't need an extra
legend.
I hope I could help you, but feel free to ask me, if yo have further questions

• Is there a way to label icons in Interactive report search bar

Is there a way to label icons, 'View Report' and 'View Chart' icons (the ones next to the go button) in the Interactive report search bar..

Is there a way to label them with some text. Or is there any other way to improve this.They are actually already labelled—look at the page source—presumably for accessibility reasons. CSS styling is applied to move the label text to a position where it is invisible when viewed on screen. All that's required to show the labels is to override/customize the CSS so that the label text is visible and the buttons are sized to accommodate it.

• Color Label (icon only)

I found it somewhere before, but I can't seem to locate that option anymore, where color label only applies to the icon and not the text.
Help.

Hi starbark, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There is no built-in feature on Tiger that will allow that. (EDIT: That I know of)You might try this Unsanity haxie. It looks like it will do what you want.

• Change label icon

Hi.
I set URL icon for label. Now i want to change that URL by pressing on button. What is code to do that.

I recommend that when you have questions like these you go through the API and read them with a critical eye. It's the details that count here. Now I'm not sure if this is correct since I'm not near a java compiler, but looking at the API for URL and ImageIcon suggests that something like this might work:
jLabel1.setIcon(new ImageIcon(new URL("http://domain.si/image.jpg")));Note this has not been run nor tested.

• Icons & Labels mismatched

I woke up this morning to find the labels & icons mismatched on my home screen on my 3GS. For example the TweetDeck icon has the label for Metro Paris, the MLB icon has the label for Shazam, etc. About 20 of them are wrong. They were definitely correct yesterday. I had downloaded a bunch of apps and then did a reset, that's when I noticed they were screwed up. It seems that only the apps that were downloaded during the past couple of days are wrong.
The label seems correct and the icon seems wrong. When I click on the TweetDeck icon that has 'Metro Paris' for a label, the Metro Paris app comes up.
I did a reset, and they are still screwed up.
Anyone else have this problem? Anyone heard of it?

I haven't experienced the same, and this is the first time I've seen this reported.
If an iPhone reset does not resolve it, try removing and re-installing all 3rd party apps via the iTunes sync process. Under the Applications tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, deselect sync applications followed by a sync to remove all apps. Follow this by reselecting sync applications to reinstall your selected apps.

• Placing icons and label inside a ToggleButtonBar

As It's explain on subject, I try to create a custom ToggleButtonBar with icon and label on top.
To do that, I create the class you can read below
package
import mx.controls.Button;
import mx.controls.ToggleButtonBar;
import mx.core.IFlexDisplayObject;
public class IconToggleButtonBar extends ToggleButtonBar
[Inspectable (enumeration = "left,right,top,bottom", defaultValue="left")]
public var labelPlacement:String="left";
override protected function createNavItem(label:String, icon:Class=null):IFlexDisplayObject
var b:Button = Button (super.createNavItem(label,icon));
b.labelPlacement= labelPlacement;
return b;
To use this class, I had done:
<fx:Script >
<![CDATA[
[Embed (source= "icon/paramList/archive.png")]
public var icon1:Class ;
private var listeObject:Object={label:"Label1", icon : icon1};
private var actesObject:Object={label:"Label2", icon : icon1};
private var preimpObject:Object={label:"Label3", icon : icon1};
private var amoamcObject:Object={label:"Label4", icon : icon1};
private var agendaObject:Object={label:"Label5", icon : icon1};
[bindable]
public var buttons:Array = [listeObject, actesObject, preimpObject, amoamcObject, agendaObject];
]]>
</fx:Script>
<component:IconToggleButtonBar
dataProvider="{buttons}"
itemClick="changeBbHandler(event)"
includeIn="tout"
selectedIndex="-1"
toggleOnClick="true"
x="7" width="95%"
color="0xff0000"
height="49"/>
In my case, icon is visible on IconToggleButtonBar but no label appear.
Is anyone can explain to me why?
Thanks for helping

I tried that first. Updating the script to this doesn't work.

Do you have the class files or java files here?
You should put the gif where the .class files are located, and use getResource as Encephalopathic wrote, or:
Icon icon = new ImageIcon(ClassLoader.getSystemResource("ei0021-48.gif"));
When I did as you said using System.out.println(new File("ei0021-48.gif").getAbsolutePath());, I got the following output.
F:\Testing3\Application\ei0021-48.gif
That's the current running directory.

• What's this tiny icon for?

I have a "folder" called "games" on my iPod Touch. In it are three games. Today inside the FOLDER icon, where the teeny-tiny icons of the three games icons are, there is a fourth icon. It doesn't appear if I open the folder; then the three standard game icons are all I see, so there is no sign of this mystery icon to click on. This icon looks like a tiny square "earth" (mostly North America) with what might be a CD coming out of the bottom end. Does anyone know what this is about?

Seems to be the consensus around the interweb. Thanks for the tip off.

• Labels in Survey Mode in LR2

I am in Survey Mode (secondary display) and I have three photos displayed.. I choose one of the three as "most selected" and I click on the label icon at the bottom of the photo I like and apply a color label. Instead of it being applied to just the most selected photo it gets applied to all the photos.
Is that the way it was designed to work or am I misunderstanding the process in survey mode?
Not as useful as it would be if it just acted on the photo for the label icon I selected. And of course if you deselect the group they all disappear from the survey screen.
It wouldn't be so bad if there was an overlay with file info in the survey screen so I could easily figure out which photos were the ones I choose.
Lawrence

Okay, I see now that if I change it to survey mode on the main monitor it doesn't apply it to all of them just the selected. Not intuitive but workable.

• Why can't I use "icon" property?

I'm trying to make a very basic component:
1) I created a MovieClip with some graphics representing a
simple tab menu item
2) I created a class "Tab.as" which extends MovieClip and
linked to the MovieClip from step 1
3) I used Component Definitions in the library to add a
String property linked to the variable "icon":
Label = "Icon", Variable = "icon", Value = "", Type =
"String"
4) In my Tab.as class I put an [Inspectable] get/set
property, icon:
[Inspectable]
public function get icon():String{ ... }
public function set icon(val){ ... }
I get the following compile errors for both get and set
functions:
1023: Incompatible override.
1021: Duplicate function definition.
Why?

Yeah I didn't post enough code, what I have is like this:
var _icon:String
[Inspectable]
public function get icon():String{
return _icon
public function set icon(val:String):void{
_icon = val;
So _icon is the storage variable as defined in AS, "icon" is
only defined as a get/set function pair and in the component
definitions as the identified Variable.
I was suspicious of the component icon, too, but as you say
it's in a meta tag so I can't figure how it would conflict. And as
I mentioned earlier, how do some of the components get away with a
getter/setter icon property?
quote:
Hmm, but I only get the errors when I set the same name for
the property and the getter/setter methods.
You mean the component definition "Variable" and the get/set
functions? I seem to be able to make them the same in all other
cases... ie I set the component definition Variable to "iconProp"
and the get/set functions as "iconProp". There's just something
funky going on with "icon" it seems.
