Teeny weeny mail difficulty involving just one friend's ISP

during the Xmas New year period my friend's emails to me have stopped arriving. his email address looks like this XX[his name].agrovista.co.uk. His colleague who also uses agrovista.co.uk has also been unable to send email to me.. I can send emails to him without a problem. He does not receive a 'mail returned' message, so his emails to me seem to be going somewhere. I have searched junk and trash immediately he sends mail but they don't seem to come there. He is in my address book so the emac knows and recognises his address when i write to him. I appear to be receiving all other business emails from loads of other people without a problem - they have despatched test emails to me on my request and all have come through. Why this one particular friend? BT who are my provider say it is his problem. His IT support team say it is my computer problem. I don't really have much in the way of rules or filtering as I have never had a problem and I'm not a very sophisticated computer user. I cannot believe my emac has let me down, do you think its the Agrovista.co.uk thing?

I have now used your VERY HELPFUL link and find that my main email address, which i have never used, at [email protected], is sending but not receiving. My old email address (from dialup days) which is [email protected] is somehow connected to the btconnect address, and all my mail comes into the openworld address (that was my choice when I switched to broadband). my Agrovista colleague's emails are not arriving in either the connect, or openworld, email folders. They are not on the server for the connect address, and I can't connect to the server for the openworld address, but i think that MIGHT be because it is somehow attached to the connect address. I can send and receive from openworld to connect, but I can only send from the connect address. My email sent from openworld is on the server for connect, but not on my desktop. So, to conclude - I'm not any better off, my colleague's emails are still not reaching me, but I am learning (though slowly due to my own ineptitude). I have emailed BT but it is an automated reply service, I think there really is no-one there, ever.

  • No received text messages from just one friend on Verizon

Hi - I can't receive texts from just one person.  It started a few months ago but I can't pinpoint any Android upgrade that would have caused this.  My friend is on Verizon and she receives my individual texts, group texts, MMS messages, etc. but when she responds to me individually or as a group I do not receive them.  I have a Galaxy S4 running 5.0 Kit Kat and it is not rooted.  My friend has Galaxy S6 with same Android version except 5.1.1 and she has not had any upgrades. I have searched many forums and can't find any solution so what can I do?  I pulled my SIM out of my phone and put it into another old one and it works fine.  I have done a reset, removed and installed contacts, etc. and nothing.  Ideas?

    Hello
I’m sorry to hear that you are having issues with receiving text messages from your friend who uses Verizon; I would be happy to assist you!
There is one thing I would urge you and your friend to check from each device: Spam List.
Have either of you incidentally labeled the other as a ‘Spam Sender’?
If both devices are checked, and neither of you are added on the spam list, please send me a PM by clicking here. I will need the following:
    First and Last name
    Email address
    Wireless number
    Thank you,
    Charise

Apple Mail isn't going to change the format of any of your attachments. it isn't going to corrupt them either.
Exchange is a transport protocol and server. The issue you describe is not related to Exchange.
There are many different versions of Microsoft Outlook in use and they all have e-mail bugs. Different versions have different bugs. Some Apple Mail hack to get around a bug in Outlook 2003 may cause the same message to be problematic in Outlook 2000. Fix them both and another issue will cause trouble in Outlook 2007. You can't fix this. Apple can't fix this. Microsoft can and has but that is irrelevant if your recipients are using older versions.
One specific problem is that Apple Mail always sends image attachments inline, as images, not as iconized files. You can change this with Attachment Tamer. Just be aware that use of this software will break other things such as Stationery. E-mail is just a disaster. To date, no one outside of Apple has ever implemented the e-mail standards from 1993. Apple has continually changed its e-mail software to be more compatible with the de-facto standards that Netscape and Microsoft have unilaterally defined and people documented as "standards" after the fact. The e-mail messages that Apple Mail sends are 100% correct and do not violate any of the original standards from 1993 or the Microsoft/Netscape modifications. The problem is entirely bugs and limitations in various versions of Outlook.

In Mail, is it possible to extract email addresses of senders from just one account inbox?

Click on the arrow next to the number of emails in the conversation. That'll show you each separate email. You can create a new mailbox (call it what you want) and drag that email out of the conversation into that mailbox.

  • How can I enable spell checking for a text box that is just one line, e.g. subject in e-mail?

In a prior version of Firefox I found a website somewhere that told me what to do to enable spell checking for text boxes that are just one line. I got used to being able to send an e-mail with a Subject Line that didn't have a misspelling. Now it doesn't work. Please tell me how I can enable that again. I am on a Mac using Firefox 6.0.2. Thanks!

    See:
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/layout.spellcheckDefault
You can set the pref <b>layout.spellcheckDefault</b> to <i>2</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.

Thanks - I guess it is like there were two of me!
I bought the iPhone first and it seemed natural to link it to the (work) e-mail address which was in constant use. The iMac for home use came next and it seemed natural to use my home e-mail address, particularly as I knew by then that I would lose the work address after my imminent retirement. The same logic went for the recent puchase of the MacAir. I am not sure what happened with the iPad (also a recent purchase) - iTunes seemed to puch me towards the same ID as the iPhone.
It is not a huge problem - just makes my persona look schizoid! Otherwise very happy with everything Apple.

Thunderbird does not modify subject lines. Check your antivirus software or email providers spam filters.

  • In Mail, is it better to use two email addresses or just one (iCloud)

With iOS5, I have two accounts on my iMac (my regular acct and my iCloud) and it is the same way on my iPad.  On my iMac, I have iCloud as the default.  I don't quite understand this iCloud thing yet.  Should I have both accounts listed on both iMac and iPad, or should I have just one and, if just one, which one should it be?
What is the advantage of iCloud with Mail?

Probably not. There will be no appreciable difference in range between those two choices. Each will be limited by the same phenomena, namely, interference from competing wireless networks and the presence of intervening obstructions and building construction.
Extending a wireless network "wirelessly" is always a compromise that generally manifests itself in reduced bandwidth for devices connected to the "extended" base station. If you are not willing to compromise, use a wired connection between the two. That's the way large wireless deployments are accomplished.

  • HT4864 I am not receiving e-mail sent to me by a one friend

I am not receiving e-mail sent to me by a one friend. I am using my .mac e-mail account. I have put all three of his email addresses in my address book but I still do not get the e-mails and he gets a rejection e-mail every time he sends one to me. Any idea how to fix this?

  • IPhoto library Gone! (replaced in just one click w/o ever dragging 2 Trash)

iPhoto library gone / replaced in just one click (w/ o ever dragging anything to the trash)!
I currently own multiple PowerMacs all sharing the same high speed local network. All of them run the latest / Mac OS X.4.9 and have multiple HD’s (both internal and external) as well as iLife’ 06. And all of them also have iChatAV3 and are able to video chat one with the other at will while on the same local high speed network.
This is my very first iPhoto library nightmare since I’ve owned a mac. and yes I’ve always been conditioned to backup everything one wishes to keep. This particular scenario is no different. (altho my back up HD for one of the three G4 computers involved was a bit dated by at least 6 months).
This was essentially triggered via two separate iLife ‘06 apps , namely iPhoto and iChatAV3 (combined with at least an ounce of stupidity on my part). That combined with 2 people not communicating properly / being on the same page (or rather the same Folder) when working on the very same task. Hey... I do NOT claim to be an expert at this particular application even though I have used macs since apple first introduced the Apple IIe decades ago. So this does not stem from lack of experience but rather not thinking things thru entirely in terms of all the possible consequences of simple, yet catastrophic actions when it comes to replacing or authenticating one particular folder containing the entire iPhoto Library simply titled “pictures”.
Starts like this, ichatav is open on 2 of three macs and my teenage daughter asks me to send her a roll of pictures she downloaded into my computer (since it’s twice as fast as her own) from her digital still camera. Now she wants all 12 photos on her computer as well. So I drag all 12 photos to my desktop and place them in a folder titled “Jackies pics”. I drag this folder to her icon on my buddy list and ichat AV simply refuses to allow sending the entire folder and ask me to send them one at a time. That should have been my first clue. Strange I thought. Always worked well in the past. Why not now? So I tell her over ichatav that the app simply won’t allow me to send her the entire folder and that I’ll have to send them one at a time. Please make a new folder on your HD called Jackie’s pics. She agrees and creates a folder on her end called .... (you guessed it) ...... “pictures”...... to which she drags each of the 12 images I sent over our local network.
Little did she realize this newly created folder has the makings of an atomic bomb when it comes to importing the entire folder into iPhoto’s library on her own mac. A dialog box quickly materializes asking that she “authenticate” or hit cancel. So she ask me what to do. I said that’s fine, hit authenticate (assuming she titled it Jackies pics). BIG mistake! She hits authenticate and now she has the 12 images I sent her in iPhoto....BUT .... the 1600 or so originals in the entire iPhoto library quickly vanishes. Her entire iphoto library is now wiped out or rather replaced with this new folder. She asks me, what happened? And in less than 30 seconds she in complete tears. Over 2-3 years of her photos (all 1600 images) gone in the click of a mouse.
Today is father’s day .... and I remembered that I have a complete backup of her HD (even though it is a bit dated). So together, we managed to recover about 90% of the lost images. If anyone reading this knows how I can possibly recover the final 10% (most current photos) then please help us.
Bottom line: We were fortunate. This Father’s Day iPhoto Nightmare ended happily....
    TIA
    (3) G4 PM's/(3) S-Drives/Sony TRV900/Nikons/6FWHD's/PS7/iLife06/FCPHD/DVDSP/etc. Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Just another update .... Today, my daughter was multitasking on her G4 powermac working within iPhoto as well as email account and last but not least the latest iTunes. As she opened this final app (and I mean "final").... her entire hard drive bit the dust after she saw the spinning beachball and hence attempted to force quit. (I should also point out we are having a heat wave in San Diego today ...which also may have contributed to this hardware issue mainly).
This time, I had a complete updated copy of her HD and simply cloned it to a new hard drive. Took me a few hours to troubleshoot, clone and install a new drive in its place. But all is working normally again (sure hope it stays that way this time).
Friendly reminder to those who read this post .....
BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP .... ESPECIALLY IN IPHOTO & ITUNES!

  • I have Yahoo mail provider but just lost my folders in Mac Mail program. The folders were not "On my Mac" but on "Yahoo". How do I get them back again?

I have Yahoo mail provider but just lost my folders in Mac Mail program. The folders were not "On my Mac" but on "Yahoo". How do I get them back again? I have reinstalled MacMail as everything had disappeared. The new install has given me everything except the Yahoo folders. When I looked one of the folders had reappeared, but now it has gone again. I am using Yosemite.
Desperate to find those folders with so much data involved.

Thanks for that babowa. If I add my Yahoo account it just goes straight to MacMail and says I already have an account. There seems to be no basic problem with mails going between Macmail and Yahoo. It is just the folders that have disappeared, while MacMail was out of action. I don't think those particular folders were ever on the Yahoo mail that I access through BT, they were just on the MacMail under "Yahoo" as opposed to "On my Mac". I am worried in case I lose what I already have if I press "Restore" from my back up. As you can see, I am not exactly good at this!

  • Only one friend I can't send iMessages to... ?!

I have an iPhone 4. My friend has a 4s. We can't send each other iMessages. Verizon says there is nothing wrong on their end. It's Apple related.  Apple customer service had me check on the iOS (we're both up to date). I tried sending iMessages from the email address instead of the phone number. No luck. Also wiped phone clean then restored.  No luck.  Deleted all purchased apps, signed out of App store & iMessage with that Apple ID... created a brand new Apple ID.  Signed in to iMessage with new apple ID... No luck.
It is just this one friend that I can't message with.  When I turn off my iMessage, we can text just fine.  When iMessage is on, the messages will always say "delivered" but when I ask her, she hasn't gotten any.  She also sends some to me that I never receive.
I have a case ID# from my last conversation (10 days ago) but when I type it into the website, it doesn't recognize it.  Not sure if 10 days was too long to wait to follow up on this same case.  Trying to chat but the website says I have to pay $19 for one time support?!
If I had known it would be so annoying to have an iPhone, I would have considered all my options.
Please help me figure out why I can't message this one friend!

Well, after reading some other discussions, I signed out and  back in with my original apple ID.  I started a fresh iMessage to this friend using her EMAIL address not her phone number.  It is working now and showign up on her phone as an iMessage!  Thank goodness. Wish I understood why...

  • HT204053 I had a mobile me account and now i have two apple id's how do i make it just one?

When I signed up for icloud I was told that i could just use my mobile me account. The problem was that my mobile me account creates an address for me and now that address is my icloud id. In addition to that my itunes store address is different but it is also an icloud id, but i want just one id. is there any way i can merge the two?

The same thing happened to me because I had an Apple ID that was not an email address under which I had made all my purchases and a me.com address that I initially used to set up my iCloud account.  If you want to get all your purchases from the Cloud, then you need to do a couple of things:  first, change the Apple ID that you purchased all your stuff under to be an email address.  You can do that yourself by going to the page where you change your Apple ID.  I think it's applied.apple.com but if that's not it, just search for "My Apple ID" in the search box on the support page.  Sign in with your existing ID -- the one that is not an e-mail address -- and change it to an e-mail address.  Be sure to remember this Apple ID.  Then create your iCloud account using this Apple ID.  You should be able to get all your stuff to download using this account.
The problem with this is now you will NOT have an iCloud account associated with your MobileMe account.  If you're OK with that, you're good to go.  I think you still have time to manually download all your stuff from MobileMe.
Apple phone support walked me through this, so if my instructions are confusing you can call them and get them to walk you through it too.  It's a common problem.

  • You can download past purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. This computer can be used with a different Apple ID in 71 days. Whats the deal???

You can download past purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. This computer can be used with a different Apple ID in 71 days. Whats the deal???

You can use multiple AppleIDs to purchase new music but you are limited as to how frequently you can change authorizations for re-downloading  past purchases.  It may well be a measure to deter piracy by stopping a group of people from going around to a friend's computer and downloading purchases on the other person's computer.  It is easy to avoid by making sure you have backup copies on drives at home so you never need to redownload anything.
