Telemetry Agent silent operation
Hi,
We are planning to use the Telemetry agent on workstations running either Windows XP and Windows 7 and running versions of Office ranging from office 2003 to Office 2010.
Will the agent pop-up information to the screen when incompatibility are found? Or will this discovery process be running silently? We want the users not to see anything on their screen when incompatibility is found.
Thanks for your help
Jean D.
Check the following steps on How telemetry data is collected
Users log on and trigger the Telemetry Agent scheduled task
Telemetry Agents send data to the shared folder
Telemetry data is processed to the database
IT Pros access telemetry data by using Telemetry Dashboard
Office Telemetry is new for Office 2013, so it’s not built into Office 2003, Office 2007, and Office 2010. For those clients, you deploy an agent that collects information about the installed add-ins and the most recently used documents. You won’t get application
event data for these clients like you do with Office 2013 clients, but you'll get inventory and usage data that helps you discover what is being used and likely important to your business.
For detailed information refer to the link below:

We have had the Office Telemetry Dashboard setup for a while now as part of our Office 2013 evaluation and it currently reports back on 117 Computers which roughly matches up with the number of agents we have deployed. However, I have recently discovered
that some computers do not show up on the dashboard when searching under either their computer name or username. Having looked locally at these machines they report a Last Run Result code of 0x800700005 on the Task Scheduler. Not exactly sure what this
means as I know its a fairly generic code. I can run the telemetry dashboard locally on the effected machines and all appears ok. I have looked at the main Telemetry Processor Log file on our server (%windows%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Local\Temp\dperrorlog.txt)
and can see there are quite a few machines reporting that Office Telemetry Processor deleted the folder \\ServerName\SharedFolderName\ComputerNameReference because the files in the folder haven't been uploaded for more than 2 hours. I tried googling this error
but got nothing back.
The machines in question are running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1, Office 2013 and the telemetry agent is configured through Group Policy. We also have a number of Office 2007 clients
running the agent but I have not yet checked to see if any of these ones are not reporting back.
Can anyone help troubleshoot this issue further to try and establish why some machines are not showing up in the dashboard logs. I have gone through the troubleshooting info here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219431.aspx#tshooting
but so far can't find a solution.
Thanks.I tried running the agent as admin and it returned a last run result of 0x41301 which I believe means the Task is currently running but its been like this for several days with nothing being reported back yet.
For all the other agents that appear to be running fine they show up on the dashboard with each non-admin username which is what we need to run reports based on individual users so I cant understand why this would be a permissions problem. The permissions
on the shared folder were setup using the automated option when installing the telemetry processor on the server. I have tried just adding in one of the problem users to have full control to see if this makes a difference but have not tested this yet.
Anyone have any tips on troubleshooting the DPErrorLog file? There doesn't appear to be much out there in the way of documentation for this stuff. Is anyone else using the Telemetry Dashboard successfully as part of their Office 2013 evaluation?
Thanks. -
Agent Deployment, Operation Timed Out - Solaris v5.10
Hello,
The agent has been gray since we upgraded to 2012R2, living on agent version 1.4.xxx. I tried to push an update to the agent but it failed. When I attempt to manually start/restart the agent, I get the following error.
~>/opt/microsoft/scx/bin/tools/scxadmin -start
svc:/application/management/scx-cimd:default enabled.
svcadm: Instance "svc:/application/management/scx-cimd:default" is in maintenance state.
RETURN CODE: 3
After this, I put the machine into maintenance mode, and took it back out, and again tried to restart the agent. No luck.
When I navigate to the directory, it clearly appears the SCOM directory does not exist.
Then I followed up by deleting the agent off of the SCOM console and now I am trying to deploy the agent. However, I get the following error:
Failed during SSH discovery. Exit code: -2147221248
Standard Output:
Standard Error:
Exception Message:Operation timed out
Any idea guys?Verify you have removed and cleaned up the agent from the Solaris system by running the following on it.
pkgrm MSFTscx
Check
the following as well for error -2147221248
Possible causes:
(Case A)
The user credential provided for agent deployment or certificate signing does not have a home directory
(Case B)
Sudo elevation was selected in the user credential input, but the user credential provided is not correctly configured to use passwordless sudo elevation or the required sudo elevation privileges were not granted for the user account used in discover
Resolutions:
(Case A)
Verify that the user has a home directory at: /home/<username> and that the user is able to write to this directory
(Case B)
Review sudo elevation configuration documentation and verify user configuration for sudo.
Note that passwordless sudo must be configured.

Starting sql agent manually - operating rules
Hi We run std 2008 r2. Today after overriding the 1st step's behavior in a sql agent job to end and report success after completing successfully, I
1) rt clicked "start at step..." (saw the turning green arrow on rt pop up immediately)
2) highlighted 1st step on left pop up and then clicked ok, that made left pop up go away
3) perhaps incorrectly clicked ok on rt pop up where green arrow shows
I don't see anything in view history for that job.
But yesterday when it failed same smoke test I saw (and continue to see) that failure entry in history.
Before clicking ok on rt pop up I saw "success" in step 1 on that pop up which was way too fast for the pkg it calls.
I see evidence in the pkg's flat log file that it at least started but I don't see any evidence that the log is growing which makes me think I shouldn't have clicked ok on the rt sql agent pop up.
I did what I could to look for evidence in running pkgs on the IS server that the pkg is still running but cant come to a definitive conclusion.
What are the rules and behavior when it comes to that rt popup where the green arrow revolves and someone is starting a sql agent job manually? Is it synchronous or asynchronous with its spawned ssis pkg? If its synchronous and I'm not supposed
to touch it while its running, how do I know when its done if it shows success in the status column right away?Is it possible the Job is still running? Run the command below to see if it is still exectuting
EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_help_job
@Job_name = 'Your Job Name'

SCOM 2012 SP1 - Windows operating system is not monitored in a SCOM agent
Hi All,
I have an agent with windows 2012 operating system that i am trying to monitor.
At the "Windows computers" view the "Windows operating system" column is empty ("Agent" column is Healthy).
Why SCOM doesn't recognized that the agent have operating system?
Please help.
Thanks.
TechNetHi,
On workgroup servers, you have to make sure you've used the momcertimport tool to import the certificate into the SCOM service.
In addition, I would like to suggest you go through the below article to monitor non-domain servers with SCOM:
Monitoring non-domain members with OM 2012
http://blogs.technet.com/b/stefan_stranger/archive/2012/04/17/monitoring-non-domain-members-with-om-2012.aspx
Hope this helps.

SCOM 2012 R2 Agent Deployment - Uninstall Old and Install New
By chance anyone come up with a scripted method for removing an existing SCOM 2012 SP1 agent and installing a new 2012 R2 agent? While I've come across a few scripts I'm trying to kill a few birds with one stone. This is a cross-domain attempt where the
SCOM servers sit in one domain and the member servers are scattered across multiple domains. Member servers range from Windows Server 2003, 2008, and 2012. In most cases the servers have the 2012 SP1 agent installed and in some cases there are multiple management
groups from previous SCOM standups. In addition there's a separate DEV SCOM 2012 R2 environment to manage DEV/QA servers. Active Directory Integration is configured and I have the necessary security groups created. There is a group policy created which is
filtered to just that security group. So the plan is to simply drop the servers into the correct group and have the agent installed via group policy start up script. ADI should have DEV servers appear in DEV SCOM and PROD in PROD SCOM.
Although there are ways to facilitate agent deployment via the console I need to perform a staged migration against a ton of server so as to not impact the existing production environment. So I'd rather do this remotely to pre-selected servers. This process
should involve removing the existing agent, installing the new one, and if possible removing any existing management groups. So far I've come up with the following:
Uninstall SCOM Agent:
%WinDir%\System32\msiexec.exe /x <path>\MOMAgent.msi /qb
Install SCOM Agent:
msiexec.exe /i \\path\Directory\MOMAgent.msi /qn /l*v \logs\MOMAgent_install.log USE_SETTINGS_FROM_AD=0 MANAGEMENT_GROUP=<MG_Name> MANAGEMENT_SERVER_DNS=<MSDNSName> ACTIONS_USE_COMPUTER_ACCOUNT=0 ACTIONSUSER=<AccountUser> ACTIONSDOMAIN=<AccountDomain>
ACTIONSPASSWORD=<AccountPassword>
Remove Management Group via Script
http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Remove-a-Management-group-336c849a/view/Discussions#content
I'm guessing this wheel has already been invented or maybe there's a better way. So I'm open to ideas or suggestions.
Any responses appreciated.Wow! 4 days and no responses, not good Microsoft SCOM Community. So here's a status on this issue.
As stated I have Active Directory Integration configured which means:
I see the OperationsManager container in AD: dev_scom
I see the HealthService SCP and separate OU's for each of my management servers.
I have an ADI security group containing my management servers and scom action account.
I have an Agent security group which will contain servers the scom agent will be deployed via group policy.
I also have an AD LDAP query set to target the SCOM agent group.
(&(objectCategory=group)(name=DSCOM_ADI))
I finally get the script to install via the following steps:
Reference:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754995.aspx
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc770556.aspx
http://blog.coretech.dk/msk/install-a-scom-2012-agent-silent/
1. Launch Notepad ++ and enter the following:
msiexec /i
\\server.yourdomain.com\opsmgragent\%Processor_Architecture%\MOMAgent.msi USE_SETTINGS_FROM_AD=1 MANAGEMENT_GROUP=DEV_SCOM MANAGEMENT_SERVER_DNS=YourSCOMsrvr1.yourdomain.com ACTIONS_USE_COMPUTER_ACCOUNT=0 USE_MANUALLY_SPECIFIED_SETTINGS=0 ACTIONSUSER=svc_dscom
ACTIONSDOMAIN=yourdomain ACTIONSPASSWORD=YourPassword! AcceptEndUserLicenseAgreement=1 /qn /l*v c:\scom2012r2mmainstall.log
2. Save the script to a name of your choice. For me it's installdopsmgragent.cmd. Watch the extensions as you may end up saving it as installdopsmgragent.cmd.txt.
Note: Make note of this steps in the reference articles listed above:
"In the Add a Script dialog box, do the following:
In the Script Name box, type the path to the script, or click Browse to search for the script file in the Netlogon shared folder on the domain controller."
It's been a while since having to use a startup script so it took me a minute to figure this out. "getting too old 'fer this..."
3. Copy the script to the Netlogon folder which is located in the following directory on my Windows 2012 server: E:\SYSVOL\sysvol\yourdomain.com\scripts
4. Launch the group policy management console, create a new policy, edit it, and navigate to the following location:
Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Scripts (Startup/Shutdown)
5. Double-click Startup to open the Startup Properties window.
6. Click Add and browse to the location of the script which you copied to the Netlogon share.
7. Click OK to close the Startup Properties window.
8. Close the Group Policy Management Editor.
9. Link the policy to an OU containing the servers.
10. Add the SCOM Agent group to the Security Filtering area of the group policy. I also remove Authenticated Users.
Note: make sure you have a few test servers in your Agent security group.
11. Drop to a command line and run gpupdate /force. You can also use gpupdate /force /sync but you will have to reboot the box you're running this from.
12. Log into one of the servers you have slated to deploy the agent to, drop to a command line, and run the same gpupdate command.
13. Follow this with a gpresult /r command to ensure that you see the policy applied in the Computer Settings area.
14. Reboot the server and you should see the startup script run.
15. Log into the server and launch the Control Panel.
16. If all went well you'll see the "Microsoft Monitoring Agent" icon.
17. Launch Event Viewer, navigate to the Operations Manager events node located under Applications and Services Logs and validate the logs.
17. If all didn't go well check the error log located, for me, on the C:\scom2012r2mmainstall.log
My issue: I don't see the management info in the Agent properties.
I installed this last night and waited until the next day still no changes. Event logs show the following:
Event ID: 2011 The Health Service did not find any policy in Active Directory
Event ID: 2003 No management groups were started. This may either be because no management groups are currently configured or a configured management group failed to start. The Health Service will wait for policy from Active Directory configuring
a management group to run.
I see the HealthService is Running in Task Manager on this server and of course I don't see anything listed in the Management Groups registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HealthService\Parameters\
I don't want to manually add the management group info. Checking as I may have missed something in one of the switches.
Any responses appreciated. -

Warning while trying to run an agent obiee 11g
Hello all,
I have an analysis and i have applied an agent on that analysis so that i receive an email with the report attached.
I have configured the mail settings in the em tool and i have run it successfully in the past with other agents/analyses.
Currently when i'm running the agent, the operation ends with the following message:
"The Agent, agent-test MP, has completed with warnings."
I'm trying to see through the logs in "C:\oracle\middleware\instances\instance1\diagnostics\logs\OracleBISchedulerComponent\coreapplication_obisch1\nqscheduler.log"
what went wrong but i see nothing helpful there.
Note that the obiee version is 11.1.1.6
Does anybody have an idea how i can look further into this problem? Maybe there are logs available in another folder etc.
Thanks in advance,

SCOM agent install fails Error 80070035 - the network path was not found
I have deployed SCOM 2012 agents to most servers (2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012R2) in our estate but some either fail to install or are not monitored. I assume the two problems are related, but for now I am concentrating on the servers that fail completely.
Installation is from the Discovery Wizard and I have about 20 servers that fail of various server versions.
So looking at one specific server that is failing to install the agent - a 2008 standard service pack 2
The firewall in on and file and printer sharing is enabled for domain, remote administration is enabled for domain
I added a specific rule to allow TCP 5723 and 5724
DCOM is enabled
I can Ping the target server from the SCOM server by both name and FQDN - both return the same IP and our DNS server has only one entry for this server
I can browse to the admin share \\server\C$ from the SCOM Server, using the same account that I specify for the agent install that is a domain admin with rights on this server (and on the other servers the agent
did install to) and the server has plenty of disk space available
I am not sure what else to look at so would welcome any ideas
ThanksHi Petro,
I have a Agent installation failure cheat sheet, For your error 80070035 it is said to perform a manual installation.
So i would like to understand which version of SCOM is this ? 2007 R2 or 2012 or 2012 r2 ?
Also check if your agents have the WMI service started and enabled ?
Also if yours is a SCOM 2007 R2 do you have a RMS & MS in your management group ? If yes then Pushing the agent installation from MS may cause such issue. So would suggest you push the installation from RMS.
Also check if your Network connectivity meets the minimum requirement as recommended by SCOM. Below is applicable for Both SCOM 2007 R2 & SCOM 2012 & 2012 R2.
Component A
Component B
Minimum Requirement
Root management server or management server
Agent
64 Kbps
Root management server or management server
Agentless
1024 Kbps
Root management server or management server
Database
256 Kbps
Also check if you have any Anti virus / Firewall which is blocking the install / communication. If yes disabe or add the "Monitoringhost.exe to the safe list or what your feature is.
Check if you have another IP assigned to the NIC card and remove it tempraurly andchecl.
Also post the event logs of the Agents which are in not monitored state for analysis.

This problem occurs if the LockFileTime.txt file is located in the following folder on the remote computer:
%windir%\422C3AB1-32E0-4411-BF66-A84FEEFCC8E2
When you install or remove a management agent, the Operations Manager 2007 management server copies temporary files to the remote computer. One
of these files is named LockFileTime.txt. This lock file is intended to prevent another management server from performing a management agent installation at the same time as the current installation. If the management agent installation is unsuccessful and
if the management server loses connectivity with the remote computer, the temporary files may not be removed. Therefore, the LockFileTime.txt may remain in the folder on the remote computer. When the management server next tries to perform an agent installation,
the management server detects the lock file. Therefore, the management agent installation is unsuccessful.

Install 10.2 Grid Control on Windows 2003 Server - Always erorr on Agent
I have a Windows 2003 Server in a Domain and have tried to install several times OEM Grid Control 10g (B30800-01), but every time the last step (Agent Configuration Assistant) prints "Failed" on the OUI-Screen. I checked the log on the directory "cfgtoollogs\cfgfw", but for a beginner it is a little bit difficult to find the key for the error. Somoebody has a minute left to look at it, please? (It's only the last part of the file CfmLogger). Everything else worked fine for the Installation.
Thank's a lot.

i tried to update my gridcontrol installation to the actual version, .... many times with many retries but still havent a step by step resultion :-(
much thanks to vmware or ms hyper-v for snapshotfeatures -
This in on an HPUX 64-bit system. I'm getting these errors during the configuration step. The install of 10.2.0.1 and Patch to 10.2.0.4 had no errors. We're not running IAS anywhere. I've confirmed that the files it says it can't find are there (right where it says it's looking). Don't know what the problem securing OMS is, trying to find other related log files....
Any help is appreciated.

EM Cloud 12c Management Agent Software for linux x86
Hello folks
I need to acquire Management Agent Software for linux x86 using offline mode. I followed steps described in online documentation of Oracle Cloud Control 12c, section "4.2.3.2 Acquiring Management Agent Software in Offline Mode"
I downloaded the catalog file p9348486_112000_Generic.zip, but when I executed import_update_catalog as follow:
/em12c/oms12cr3/oms/bin/emcli import_update_catalog -file=/app/em12c/swlib/p9348486_112000_Generic.zip -omslocal
this error apears:
"Internal error while validating catalog file format: error in opening zip file"
thanks in advance--> $/AGENT_INST/bin/emctl stop agent
If agent does not shutdown gracefully then kill all agent background processes by first grepping for agent perl and java processes only
--> Move your existing target.xml file
mv target.xml target.xml.old
--> Create an empty targets.xml file under /AGENT_INST/sysman/emd with the below content
<Targets>
</Targets>
--> Start the agent
$AGENT_INST/bin/emctl start agent
This starts agent but without any targets populated in targets.xml
To discover targets perform agent resynchronization operation from console

Multi-Agent Voicemail Management
Hi, small business here. We have several agents remotely operating our Skype customer service line (only one number), but we are experiencing difficulty in keeping a synchronized voicemail/call log; i.e. when opened on different computers (Mac and PC), Skype does not present the same call log or list of voicemails, and thus makes it difficult for us to effectively coordinate responses. Does anyone have advice on how we can set up a centralized voicemail inbox/call log that is consistent for all of our operators?
I suggest you to use PrettyMay Call Center for Skype which is perfect for small business to set up Skype based phone system, with it, you can set up a centralized voicemail inbox/call log as well as a lot more, and only one main Skype account/Skype online number required.
Check out more at: http://www.prettymay.net
Want to record Skype calls, check out at:

I know there are config files that allow some silence during an installation, but the config file on setup does not. The setup will still prompt for keys and snmp setup. Is there a way around this. I noticed also that I can copy over the key cfg files from the server to the agent to make them work together without having to re-run the es-setup when I change a key. But on install is stil have to run es-setup at least once.
I need to be able to do a full install of both server and agent silently.I know there are config files that allow some silence
during an installation, but the config file on setup
does not. The setup will still prompt for keys and
snmp setup. Is there a way around this. Yes, see "Example 65 Sample Finish Script: Security Password Seed and Community String Hard Coded" in the SunMC 3.5 Install Guide, Chapter 6.
Their script includes the lines:
SECURITY_SEED=abc123
SNMPV1_STRING=private
export SECURITY_SEED SNMPV1_STRING
And the document provides this warning:
"This method presents a security risk because the security password seed and the community string are visible in the finish script. The security risk can be reduced, but not eliminated, by setting the finish script file permission to 400."
Hope this helps!

Live Monitoring and Recording for VPN Remote CAD Agents in UCCX
Dear all,
We have deployed UCCX 5.0(2) for one of our customers.
Silent Monitoring and Recording are working fine for local agents.
We have deployed new Remote agents using IP Communicator and Cisco VPN on their PC. Everything is working fine but could not monitor or record them.
We have made site-to-site VPN using a PIX and give these agents Hard Phones 7942. Everything is working fine but could not monitor or record them.
We also installed WFO QM client on their PCs in order to record calls but no way !
Is there any way that we can use in order to make these agents silently monitored and recorded?
Thanks for all.good afternoon,
I am not a senior guy but we experienced the same issues with monitoring users at home on VPN. After some trouble shooting I found that most users are on wireless and when I had them plug in with a cable we could hear their calls and record fine with no issues. Though, the agents preferred to be on wireless, of course! the senior engineer did mention something about changing the Codec and utilizing some DSP resources.
