Telephone number format in Contacts

Telephone #s in my address book are formatted (123) 456-7890.  Since almost all calls now require all 10 digits, I prefer 123-456-7890.  I don't know why it always converts to this setting -- and I don't see any place in Preferences to change it.

You can do this to some degree by changing the "Address Format" optin in the General section of the Contacts prefereces, which should put the formatting to the default of another country/region, but this may change some other details like addresses.

  • Changing Contacts telephone number format

Hi all. I bought an iphone 6 in USA and I am from Argentina. In the apple store (USA) the product was activated.
Do you know how can I change the Contacts' phone numbers' format so as to avoid the use of brackets () ?
I already selected the propper language for me (spanish) and the Region (Argentina) but the formats remain unchanged.
I still haven't placed a SIM into the iphone because I have to ask the carrier for a Nano-SIM which I do not have at the moment. May this be the problem? When I insert the new SIM I will have the right formats?
    Thanxs!

I've found another PC with XP and Outlook 2007, but I still can't find any service called "Windows Dialing".  But I tried it anyway.  Guess what I got: in this computer, a normal local telephone format isn't changed.  But when the number is in long distance format, ie +XX YYYYYYY, Outlook 2007 stupidly removes the '+' sign in front of it!
I then tried in my first PC to see what would happen to international telephone number format.... it's OK, the '+' sign isn't deleted.
What a f**k!  What's this ____ called Outlook 2007 which tries to reformat things it can't understand??
I have exactly the same problem - I am in the UK and have a pile of UK numbers stored in international format (which most cell phones recognise and some generate automatically from incoming calls). So the number would be entered as +44 1234 56789. Outlook strips off the + and, because I sync with my pda, the numbers get exported to it in a broken state :-(
In the UK, we don't drop leading digits - to dial a number I either dial 01234 56789 or +44 1234 56789. We don't really use local numbers a lot in the UK - it doesn't make any difference within a local area if I dial the full code, just the local number or the international version. So there is no need for Outlook to do anything.
This is extremely aggravating - sure ly Outlook is not hard coded to use  US phone dialling methods?
There must be a way to disable the automatic parsing of numbers - if not it is bug that needs fixing, IMHO...

  • How to stop Outlook 2007 from changing my telephone number format?

    I'm using Windows 7 and Outlook 2007 (and Exchange 2007 SP1).
Now, in Outlook's contact, whenever I enter a telephone number, the stupid Outlook 2007 always tries to be smart and add brackets to the first few digits!  There's no brackets in tel number.  How could I make it stop from being too smart and changing anything?

  • Telephone number formatting

Suddenly the telephone numbers in Contacts have had all their formatting removed, i.e., they now appear as a string of digits. How can formatting be restored/set?

    Hello Manoj,
what you can try is to find a BAdI where you can implement a formating routine on your own.  Alwin van de Put published a good Blog: <a href="/people/alwin.vandeput2/blog/2006/04/13/how-to-search-for-badis-trace-it">SAP Developer Network Blog: How to search for BAdIs? (Trace it)</a>.

  • Is it to have BOTH U.S. and international phone number formats in Contacts?

Or can I only have one Region Format (and number system) apply to all my Contacts regardless of where in the world they actually are? If that's the case, not very international of Apple to do this.....

Post in the iPhoto forums where those experts are.

  • How to fix iphone's telephone number formatting?

While my iphone displays US phone numbers in a readable format: +1 (123) 456-7890 it doesn't do that for international numbers though Address book can.
For example, it removes all spaces and dashes in international numbers so they are less readable such as: +44 1234567890.

Try these links, ones for facetime troubleshootings and the other is for firewall issues

  • MfE looses contact telephone number...

    Hello,
We are using MfE 2.9 to do activesync with an exchange server. However, sometimes during a sync a contact looses it's telephone number. The contact is still in outlook / exchange with the correct information but the contact in the telephone doesnt have a telephone number anymore.
This can be pretty annoying considering thats the main thing u use a telephone for.
Could someone point me in the right direction for this bug ? Is this an MfE issue? Can this be resolved by using an older firmware?
For some reason the E71 sometimes stops syncing (without errors), any idea how to solve this ?
Would love to get an answer, been looking for ages for a solution.
    with kind regards
    Marco Sevriens

If there are not many contacts you can easily copy and past them to the correct field - they will then appear on the mobile after the next sync.
I wrote the macro but am sure I could did it out if that helps - However you will need to have a little VBA experience to alter it for your environment.

  • Other country address/ phone number formats??

Does anyone know if you can enter individual telephone numbers into a contact's card in the telephone number format of that country? For instance when I want to add a French friend's address and phone number it reverts to US standards, ie: (**)-***-***, when I really need to put the phone number in their French format, like: ** ** ** ** **.
The same applies to that person's street/town address too, it has to be in the USA format not their French way of listing addresses.
I cannot find a way of not applying the country specific "global" address and phone number formatting to individuals who do not have a US address......Am I missing something here? This has been annoying me for some while, while most of my contacts are USA based I'd really like to be able to list other friends and contacts who live elsewhere in a proper regional way...... So I thought I'd reach out to others to see if there's a solution here....thanks!

    Hello Peter,
Under preferences inside the address book, there is a phone preference to edit or creative formats for displaying phone numbers in your address book.
    "Automatically format phone numbers"
When this option is selected, Address Book formats phone numbers for you when you enter them. To create a new format, click the Add button and type a format in the Format field.
    Thanks,
Hope this work out for you!

  • IPhone number formatting for Ireland and the UK now supported!

I was pretty impressed to discover that the iPhone 2.2 update now supports telephone number formatting in Ireland and the UK.
So, for example an Irish mobile number will be displayed as (086) XXX XXXX instead of just 086XXXXXXX. Seems to work flawlessly for any number I've tried, including special rate like freephone 1 800 etc.
The same is now also true for the UK, it displays the numbers correctly formatted now too!
It certainly makes things easier to read!

  • Outlook 2007 phone number format incompatible with...

I use MS Outlook to organise my E-mail, Calendar, Tasks, Contacts, Notes, etc.
With Contacts, the Outlook format is for example:
    +00 (000) 0000000
Nokia PC Suite can recognise the above number while Nokia Ovi Suite cannot.
For example, in PC Suite, in Messages, the above Outlook format is recognised and assigned the correct name and other details.

outlook and the phone does synchronise, that is, the contacts from outlook synchronises with the contactsin the phone. the issue i have is with the Ovi Suite Messaging.
there are two types of contacts and the number format:
    1. contacts i added using the mobile phone and has the number format:
    +000000000000
    2. contacts i added using Outlook and has the number format:
    +00 (000) 0000000
in Ovi Suite Messanging, the names of the contacts using method 1, those added using the phone, appear. when the person sends a message, the software recocnises the number, associates the name and messaging thread
the contacts added using method 2, on the other hand, are not recognised by the software, and therefore appear as the number (+000000000000) rather than the name.
and so i have two messaging threads for every contact:
    1. a thread where i sent the text, because i used the number from Outlook. and its all sent messages
    2. a thread where i received the text because the Ovi Suite does not recognise the number +000000000000 because the number in the contact that was from outlook is +00 (000) 0000000
with Nokia PC Suite, the software associates the number with the contact from Outlook. so i would receive a message with +000000000000 and it would assign the correct contact with +00 (000) 0000000
will this get sorted? i like the concept of the Ovi Suite but its not very user friendly. now im tempted to get either a blackberry or iphone.

  • Address Book: Problem with telephone no. format

In the telephone number format pane in address book I am unable to have other formats, the only option I have is Custom. In tiger I had a few other options.
Anyone know how to fix this?
See my thread at MacRumors: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=579651
    b.

To reinstall would I back up my addresses, delete Address Book, boot from install dvd and install Address Book
I would certainly backup the addresses, but I wouldn't delete the AddressBook in case you have a problem reinstalling it.
After all, your Address Book works and this problem is only a very slight detail to be bothered with, so copy it to another location rather than delete it in case you want to move it back again.
Just insert your DVD and open it in Finder, and first look under Custom Install for AddressBook. If it is not there, then click on Software Restore and see if you can find it there to install.

  • Telephone number contact lookup

I have noticed a glitch in the telephone number lookup of blackberry passport (latest software).
Suppose the phone number is stored in the international format (ex, +XX XX X...) when a call is received, the telephone number that appears starts with a 0X XX...  and therefore the corresponding contact is not displayed on the phone screen. Does anyone have a solution?

Some have found that storing the number in BOTH formats (without the 0X) in that contact will show the number when the call comes in.

After I synced my iphone (4S with ios 8.1.2) using itunes with MS outlook on my new PC , suddenly all my contacts without telephone number and what I have the name of the contact only ?

I couldn't find the edit button on my original post so I am posting an update here.
I have gone through more apps and have had good luck on all but one more.  And it's not that the app doesn't work, I am talking about the Yahoo Weather app, It works fine, but when you swipe between cities the screen lags a bit and it sometimes doesn't move between pages the way it should.  On iOS 7.1.2 it was smooth as butter but on iOS 8.0, not so much.  I will post a note in the app store to let them know.  I really like the Yahoo app better than the new stock app.
I have been going through my games and they all work fine. Angry Birds (Original and Stella), Canabalt, Minecraft, Bejeweled 2, Silly Walks, PopWords, Doodle Jump, Deep Green all seem to work just fine.
Starbucks app works as it should.
I will stop back again next week after I have had the weekend to play with it in detail and post my thoughts again.
