Television Not Recognizing HDMI Input

I recently bought a Toshiba 24L4200U and in the few weeks I've had it, I have had no trouble connecting it to my Dell laptop. This afternoon, I left the two connected and turned the TV off before I left the house, with the display reverting to the laptop as it is supposed to (I have it configured to automatically display on the TV when connected). When I returned this evening, I turned on the TV, and though the computer recognized that it was connected to an external display, the TV displayed the "no signal" prompt.
I have attempted:
Unplugging/plugging back in the TV
Unplugging/plugging back in the computer
Plugging into the HDMI 2 input (I normally use HDMI 1) and changing the input on the TV
Plugging back into the HDMI 1 unput and changing the input on the TV
Restarting computer, turning TV off, and plugging both back in (computer first, then TV)
Each time the computer tells me it is connected to an external display, yet it retains the display. The TV gives no indication that it is connected to anything. I have not changed any menu settings in the interim. This TV is way too new to be having problems. Does anyone have any ideas?

I would double-check another HDMI device with the TV. If it works, then it's likely an issue with the laptop. If it doesn't work, you'll know it's likely an issue with the TV. If it is the TV, you could try resetting it to factory settings to see if that helps.

  • TV not recognizing VGA input

I have this TV hooked up to my Arch machine and whenever I run xrandr the computer sees the output. The problem is, the TV is not recognizing any input so I can't change into VGA. Arch even detects the correct resolution and when I hook up a Debian machine it displays image with no problem.

Look into your TV manual for the supported resolutions
I had a experience a while back with a TV at my wife parents place where xrandr said that 1980x1080 (fullHD) was a supported resolution, but the screen just went blank. When I consulted the manual, I found out that the maximum supported resolution was in fact, 1366×768 (WXVGA), which worked almost perfectly (there was a missing pixel column on the right side, not too much of a trouble).
Short version: Check the TV specs, xrandr sometimes lies.

    Hello
I need to connect a sound mixer to the Macbook via minijack audio entrance. Even I have changed the settings for audio input in System Preferences (from internal mic to external line) garageband is not recognizing any external input and internal microphoen is always active.
    Someone had the same problem?
    Thankx

Change the input in Garageband > Preferences > Audio Midi.

  • Macbook Pro - Retina not recognizing HDMI

My third external monitor has a VGA and DVI port. I have a hdmi (computer) to dvi (monitor) cable that connects flawlessly on my old lenovo. Why might my new MBP - Retina not be registering or recognizing my third external via hdmi (it doesn't recognize alone either)?.
    Thanks!

Just wondering if you ever found a solution.  My mbp retina is not finding my iLok 1.  No green light. Max 5 won't authorize.

  • Since Yosemite, Snoball mic not recognized; regular input doesn't record either

I desperately need to get a video to a small group of students in India who are doing work for me.
I'm using Screenflow, which I know Apple doesn't support. But even in Quicktime and Garageband, I can't get the computer to recognize my Snoball mic. I can't find any way to record for these kids, because the sound is so nonexistent. I can't even record with regular input.
I think my computer may be 2.5 to 3 years old. Is it too old for Yosemite? Is there any way I can roll it back to whatever came before? Or is the computer ruined? Recording is one of the main things I need to do daily. And I've been non-funcrioning since before Christmas.
It was fine prior to upgrading. I don't know why I did. I should have known better. I really, really should have. I'm so mad at myself I could --- ahhh, ****, what the ****!
I've read tons of discussions on sound failures with Yosemite, but none matched my issue. Anybody have suggestions? Already reset the PRAM.

OK! Thanks everyone for all of the help, but I just got in touch with Blue support, and it seems that the way they program their devices, the computer is only able to recognize one at a time. You can send it in and have them reprogram it so your computer can differentiate them.
Weird work around, but I guess that at least answers the question of why its not working.
I have a support request in to Blue, but I'm going to be upset if I have to buy another, different type, mic to get multi track recording. If that's the case, it will definitely be a different brand...

Not sure what to try next, I saw where other viewsonic user had issues tried changind the dvi cords or switching to vga, but its really annoying b/c I had both monitors working last night. grrrr

  • Canopus advc110 now not recognizing analog input

anyone ever experience this? It just still stays blue screen. Its on analog in but no movie shows. It worked for 6 tapes now nothing? I trashed the plist, restarted, unplugged and plugged....nothing

    Hi k
Are You sure that it is the analog imput that are a problem.
My first (spinal reflex thought) is Can the FW connector been turned 180 deg
wrong. One second and the A/D chip blows in the Canopus (expencive repair).
    or
You might have tried to mix wrong set of Mac OS + QT versions + iDVD version.
But the there can be other things. I would look in my Camera probl list.
May be You find some help by it:
    Mac:
    - hardware
◊ Slow hard disk (fragmented: repair permissions, repair hard disk, use a faster hard disk)
◊ I wonder how full your Mac's hard disc is. (David Babsky) A near full hard disk prevents Import/Capture. 10% free is recommended + space for Import/Capture + work space (about 4 to
5 times the amount needed for Capture) eg on a 200Gb hard disk You need 20Gb + (one hour tape)
    13Gb + 50Gb = about 80 to 90Gb free space.
◊ Disconnect all other ext devices (FW and USB) exept Camera (and keyboard + mouse) and try again
    ◊ Reset PRAM
    ◊ Bad RAM-chips
◊ disconnect Mac from powerline (not just switch off, really plug out) for a few minutes to reset FW ports
    - software
◊ File-Vault is on - turn it off
◊ Something is occupying the CPU/System, like other programs, Internet etc.
◊ Do You have desktop pictures or screen or energy-savers active? Try turning them off.
◊ Updating - OS has to be a clean install - not an update eg from X.3.x to X.4.x (no good) OS X.4.0-5 needs a clean install to work (I use X.3.9)
◊ Updating QT and/or other updates (to 7 needs v6 to be cleaned out first) QT v.7.0.0-4 needs a clean install to work (I use 6.5.2)
◊ Have you tried the crazy fix: Open GarageBand, play a few notes, close it and reopen iMovie. The camera should import fine now. Sue/SDillini
◊ Running iDVD at the same time as iMovie can cause problems: (Lennart Thelander)
◊ If You also have installed FinalCut Express/pro there are possibly problems with this
    iMovie:
◊ remove bookmarks in iMovie project
    ◊ Trash: com.apple.iMovie.plist and com.apple.iMovie3.plist : files (Xinram)
    Connection:
◊ don’t Daisy chain Camcorder <--> external hard disk <--> Mac
◊ FW-wire cable, is it OK?
    ◊ USB/USB2 is NO GO !
◊ Cheque FW connection at Camera end. OK? (Adam Smith1)
◊ Cheque FW connection at Mac end. OK?
    Camera:
◊ The Camera is set to VTR ? (not as when You ”film” record with it)
◊ You may be need to go to the Camera menu and select digital out.
◊ defective camera TRY IT ON ANOTHER MAC ! (if the A/D chip in the camera is harmed then it will say in iMovie that the camera is connected and You can forward resp. backward the tape but there will be no picture or sound just the blue screen).
◊ connect camera to power-line, not battery-only....(Karsten Schlüter)
◊ Canons don't allow daisychaining on firewire, make it "only device" on port (Karsten Schlüter)
◊ Cheque the menu on Your Camera so that it communicates with the FW digitally to Your Mac
◊ Date and Time is correct on Your Camera ?
    Tape:
◊ Drop outs on the miniDV-tape - make a camera to camera copy on a tape which You have previous recorded with a time code (dummy recording).
◊ Break in the time-code on the miniDV tape (make a camera to camera copy on a tape which is pre-recorded with nothing/anything so that the tape has a time-code from beginning to the end)
◊ If You recorded in LP-mode (90 min on a standard 60 min tape with 12-bit sound). Try to change in iMovie pref. to import but not as individual clips. If this doesn’t work You have to make a Camera to Camera copy with the receiving Camera set to SP-mode and 16-bit sound.

I know that in a lot of the new Sony HD cameras, iMovie requires that you turn iLink Conv off. I would look for a similar setting for your camera. This setting has to do with shooting a movie in one format, and using the camera to import as a different format. For instance, if you shoot HD footage and have iLink conv on - the camera will send DV to the computer etc...
So, case in point: look for a setting on your camera that has to do with the video format and see if that helps.

  • Health app not recognizing manual inputs

    Hi,
I've been using the Health app on my iPhone to track the number of steps I take each day (trying to do a minimum 10,000 per day as recommended by health professionals).
This morning I didn't take my phone with me when walking the dog, so manually entered an estimate of the number steps.  Once I click on OK, it updated the number of steps.
Later this morning, I noticed that the manually added steps are no longer being added to the total steps.  Checked that the data entry point was there and it was.  Deleted the data, and re-added it but made no difference - still not included.  I even turned the iPhone off and back on to see if that would make a difference.
Why is the Health app now acting this way?  I've added manual data in the past and it's been OK.
    Buff

Thanks for the feedback.  I'll give the decimal thingy a try, although I'm not sure why that might work (a fraction of a step???).  I'm just trying to find out if others are experiencing this weird issue with the Steps data set.  The manual entries continue to remain in the data set after entry, they just stop being incorporated into the displayed totals/graph.
I also note that it takes a full minute, or so, for all the data in the set to be displayed when you want to edit it.  I discovered this when I saw that my manual entry wasn't being included in the totals graph and wanted to check if my entry was still there.  It was.  So, I then deleted it and re-entered the amount with a different entry time.  That sometime worked and sometime not.  I just didn't want to leave the old non-included entry in the data set, once I got a new entry that worked.
It's nice to know the issue isn't only affecting me.  Maybe Apple will now take a look and see what's the matter.

I have a pioneer 50 inch plasma + I purchased new from the company back in 2005.   I tried to hook up an Apple Tv to the pioneer receiver that came with the TV.   I can not get it to work.
The receiver has two HDMI  inputs in the back.  However they say they are not for PC's.  Furthermore they must be set up by going to the home menu.    I tried everything, but I can not get the receiver to talk to the Apple TV. I even tried a connector that uses an HDMI to the Apple TV that has the other side of the cable as 5 RCA cables.  I could not get the receiver to see the Apple TV.   I have a newer TV in the house, it has no problem talking with the Apple TV.  But this older system seems to be handicapped in its ability to talk with the newer Apple TV system.

    Do you have any suggestions
    Thanks

I could not access the Apple TV on the television.   If I put the Apple TV directly into by TV, I have an external sound system (entertainment system), therefore I worry that I would by pass the audio.

Have you been able to use the Mac Mini directly attached to the plasma/LCD/projector with out going through the Denon AVR? Even with 10.9.3 installed?
I have a Pioneer AVR and I have the Mac attached via a HDMI to HDMI and all is working for me. Can your Denon do some upscaling? Some AVR, like my VSX-53 can change the scaling of the input video. Meaning if I still had my Apple TV 2 which outputs 720P only, can be upscaled in my AVR to 1080i or 1080P or even 24fps. Heck, I could even plug in an old style Red, White, Yellow cable and upscale it to 1080P and output it HDMI.
I am wondering if your Denon is able to do that and it might be set wrong. Check the owners manual for such settings. Even the plasma/LCD/project could be doing the upscaling too. So check that too.

I understand you are having issues with your HP 2711x Monitor not displaying HDMI or DVI inputs, yet it can display VGA inputs. Are these inputs all coming from the same device? Such as your computer? Does the computer's outputs show up on other devices via HDMI and DVI? If it works are you using the same cables? Are there any messages displayed on the monitors screen when you have the HDMI or DVI hooked up?

You really need a newer Mac Mini with a true HDMI output, because that Mac Mini's DVI output does not support Audio.
You might try a 3.5mm to RCA adapter
from the Mac Mini's headphone jack to the TV's audio input,
but that would require being able to select the Audio input in the TVs menu while using it's HDMI input.
Optionally you could also use an external 2.1 Speaker System or patch the audio from the Mac Mini to your home stereo system to enhance that older Mac Mini's audio.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p.
