Tell a friend is currently unaviliable

Why I got massage" Tell a friend is currently unaviliable..Try again later" when I tag [ tell a friend]?

Interesting question.
Just playing devil's advocate here, I think that such a feature would have to be "opt-in" by the iTunes U admin and individual content creators.
I guess what I foresee is a lot of e-mail, directed to me as an admin, complaining about "spam" if such a feature were made real at our site.
Not saying it's a bad idea though ... just the opposite. Just trying to figure the kinds of things people would bring up.

  • "Tell a friend" issues...

    Hi -
I had problems with the "Tell a friend" functionality yesterday. Don't know if this was just me or is more system wide.
    Here's what happened.
I entered a bunch of email addresses, all correctly configured and separated by commas.
When I hit ENTER the system returned a vauge "the system is not responding" error. So I tried again and again, assuming it was either too "busy" and couldn't make a connection.
However....it apparently WAS working and was sending out the same email a ton of time; essentially I was spamming my friends!
    Just an FYI....

  • Galleries Tell a friend

When using Galleries Tell a Friend feature, Is there any way to change who the email is from?
When the email arrives from .Mac Web Galleries, My family and friends email app. sorts it out as junk mail. And or they delete it as if it were spam.
    Thanks
    Pete

    Pete:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you using Mail and a .Mac mail account. When I send a gallery email the From is my primary .Mac email account. Since there's a png image file in the email maybe that's why the email is being targeted as spam.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • ITunes & App Store in Mac show old e-mail when using "Tell a Friend"

    Hi,
I have changed my e-mail address on my Apple Account a while ago. All seems to work and when i go to manage the account it shows my current e-mail.
But when i use "Tell a Friend" feature in the iTunes Store and in the App Sore in Mac is shows my old e-mail. Where can i update this please?
    Thanks

Whilst browsing through the other questions...I found a solution that whilst seemingly unlikely...worked for me.
The full description can be found here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/13124170#13124170
    Quick summary:
Under parental controls, disable the app store option but enable the iTunes U option. Click okay. Wait for iTunes to load iTunes U. Once that's done, go back to parental controls and enable the app store option and voila! problem solved. Strange but true. =)

  • Why is the FaceTime ring so low on the iPad 4th gen? I could barely hear it when it rings.  I tell my friends to text me first so I wii know

Why is the FaceTime ring so low on the iPad 4th gen? I could barely hear it when it rings.  I tell my friends to text me first so I wii know

Are you also using the same Apple ID for FaceTime, as listed under Settings > FaceTime?
If so, don't.  While it's perfectly okay to share an Apple ID for iTunes & App Store, you shouldn't share an Apple ID with another person for the following:
    iCloud
    FaceTime
    Messages
Use a unique personal Apple ID.  Whoever is the actual owner of the current Apple ID needs to keep using that.  The other person needs to make their own Apple ID, and use that for iCloud, FaceTime & Messages.  Maybe even Game Center to be on the safe side.

  • Tell a friend won't accept characters

I type in the characters at the botom of the dropdown and they don't get accepted but instead show new characters that don't get accepted ad infinitum.
What can I be doing wrong?
    Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You are using the Tell a Friend button that is available when you click on a MobileMe gallery, right? That opens the Mail application for sending the notification. Where is the garbled text being displayed? Can you describe the process step by step?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Tell a friend about a web page

I need to set up a link that lets a vistor send a tell a friend email from any given page within the site. Not neccessarrily through a module. Normally I would use a pop-up form and cgi script. What can I use in BC? (Other than just a "mailto" link)

As a note to be clear, that is currently the only way to add refer-a-friend, through a web form. The custom refer a friend form has been removed (existing forms will still work). Due to varius issues with its form process aspx as it lacked key elements the web form aspx as to prevent things like spam.

  • "Tell a friend" email for web galleries- black on black for PC users

Whenever I send out an email to friends with info for a web gallery, everyone who uses a PC (most everyone I know) gets the email and the text is black on a black background and they can't read it. I have to add text to the email with the username and password. When I cc myself on the email and get it on my Mac, it's white text on black background.
What's going on here? It's been this way for 4 web galleries so far.

    Dave:
Try using the Tell a Friend option in iPhoto's toolbar instead of the option of the online gallery. It will look like this except I've changed the font and color of the lower URL line which you can do with this method.

  • Web gallery "tell a friend" link not working properly

    hi there,
I want to use the tell a friend link in iphoto to point people to a new photo gallery that I posted to my mobileme gallery. But when I select the appropriate web gallery and click on the tell a friend icon in iphoto, it creates an email that introduces mobileme, and doesn't have any of the information about my web gallery with links and a thumbnail, etc.
    help!

  • IPhoto "Tell a Friend" button

For the last few days, my IPhoto "tell a friend" button does not work properly. When I click "tell a friend", an e-mail describing MobileMe pops up, instead of the e-mail which invites friends to view a album on the .Mac web gallery.
Any suggestions on how I might fix this?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try again. This is what I was getting earlier today.

  • IPhoto & "Tell a Friend"

When I click on "Tell a Friend" function, Email opens and everything looks and seems to work fine, but my emails just sit in the Outbox and never actually send.
If I click on my "Mail" icon on my toolbar, I can send no problem, but it seems if I try to use it within an application like iPhoto, it won't send my emails...?
Don't know how to fix it and it's obviously annoying.
    Can anyone help!?

    Vancouverite:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You are clicking on the Send button, right? Check the sent box and see if they may have gone out anyway. Or try saving the draft, closing Mail, open Mail from the dock and see if you can get it sent that way.

  • Tell a Friend - Missing graphic

I have made a few web galleries and when I clicked on 'Tell a Friend' Mail opened with a nice graphic already in the body of the message giving the password etc.
This graphic has stopped appearing leaving just a plain text message with the same information.
I have checked every setting I can think of, but being a switcher, the chances are I have missed something.
    Any Ideas, anyone?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and try again. See if that will help.

  • Tell a Friend not putting preview pic in Mail

I have a MobileMe gallery on 24" iMac. When I click "Tell a Friend" Mail opens and provides a stock message and a link but not the preview picture with the black background and "View Album" link like I get on my MBP. The iMac is fully updated.
Is there a setting in iPhoto or Mail that needs to changed to get the preview pic?
    Thanks,
    Marcantonio

Close iPhoto and delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Launch iPhoto and try again.

  • Is there a history of "tell a friend"

I found this one album and I emailed it to my friend to see what he thought awhile ago. Now I forget what the album was..Anyways, I was wondering if there is a history of the albums or songs you sent to someone by using "tell a friend"

It only "remembers" the currently copied file - so, if you have since used the copy function on something else (or shutdown/restarted the Mac), the previously copied file is gone (unless you pasted it somewhere of course).

  • Add a "Tell a Friend" button to an iWeb page?

When you create a .mac web gallery page on the top toolbar there is a button to "tell a friend" with an envelope icon. Clicking the button brings up a window that allows you to enter your name and the email address of the person you want to share the page with.
Is it possible to add this same button or at least functionality to an iWeb page?
I know you can copy the link and email it, but I'm thinking more about family that doesn't know how to do stuff like that and that button would be very helpful for them to share our page.
    Thanks!
