  • Question about refurbished imac

This is for some people that might of got a referb imac.
How was the condition when you got the imac and the mouse and kb?
Also, did it come in the same box as a rev. b imac?
    thanks!

    Hi All,
Well, I thought I'd let you all know how my experience so far with a refurbished iMac G5 went.
It arrived today (Wednesday). I let it sit and warm up to room temperature for about 2 hours.
Then, I looked it over, and set it up.
It had some light scratches, but not too bad.
It had a 1/8-inch (approx.) chip in the top left of the case in the clear plastic on the front edge facing me.
The Keyboard looks like new, and was wrapped nicely.
The mouse was packed loosely, and was marked-up. I was able to get the mouse to look nice with some cleaning.
The LCD screen (a 20-inch model) had a couple of long marks on the surface that looked like surface scarrs. But, with some persistent scrubbing with lint-free CD-Cleaning cloths (no chemicals - fresh clothes), I was able to buff the scarr marks away.
The computer and the accessories had several long dirt marks on them (around the ring in the stand on the rear, and some of the cables). The marks looked like they were caused by being dragged hard against something brown.
And, the Ethernet port would only make contact with the cable when you pressed very hard against it with your finger (applying downward pressure).
I called Apple, and their entire computer system was down, so they couldn't help me. So, they sent me to the local service center.
I took the computer to him, and he says I need a new logic board. So, now I have to wait for it to come in. Meanwhile my computer is sitting at the store waiting to be fixed.
So, I got to spend about an hour with my new machine before taking it to the shop for repair.
It does look like it will be a nice machine. I can live with the chip in the case. I'd prefer it not to be there, but it is a used computer.
The lady at Apple said she didn't know what they would do if anything. She said to ask the guy about it at the shop. He said they wouldn't do anything.
But, the chip only stands out if you look right at it.
At this point, I'd love to actually be able to use my machine though.
Well, I guess we'll hope that it works when it comes back to me again. Here's hoping
That's all for now. Just thought I'd post my observation since it appeared to be something people were curious about.
Hopefully not all refurbs are like this. My only other used model that I purchased essentially "new" was a store demo unit that was being clearanced (an iBook SE 366). It was in absolutely perfect condition despite being about a year old, and having everyone man-handle it at the local store (Sears).
But, I guess you take your chances when you buy something someone else owned previously.
I hope my machine comes back quickly.

  • If unboxed how could you tell the difference between refurbished imac and new imac?

If unboxed how could you tell the difference between refurbished imac and new imac?

Besides all of that, you can purchase Apple Care which will extend your warranty to 3 years just like you can on a brand new iMac.
If you're considering a "refurbished" iMac, buy it ONLY from Apple.  I believe it's your best bet.

  • Tell me about the hush hush recall on Seagate hard drives !

Tell me about the hush hush recall on Seagate hard drives ! And how it relates to writing large files like Mavericks.

    You mean this one? http://www.apple.com/support/imac-harddrive/
It wasn't hush hush at all and it doesn't relate to Mavericks at all either. Maybe you could explain your question in more detail.

  • Refurbished iMac 27" $1,699 - worth it?

    Hello all!
I want to upgrade to a desktop because my MacBook Pro 13" just doesn't cut it for me anymore but the Mac Pro is not an option ($$). I just need a solid apple desktop that will let me use the following: Avid Media Composer 7, Adobe Lightroom 5, Photoshop CS6, Premiere and After Effects (not all simultaneously). I am taking some heavy editing courses at Uni and need a solid desktop to support my needs. I don't need the absolute best, just something that will get me through as a beginner.
To all those far more knowledgeable than me in terms of tech specs I would really appreciate your opinion on whether this iMac satisfies my needs.
Processor: 3.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i& (Trubo Boost up to 3.9GHz)
    Cache: 6MB shared L3 cache
Memory: 8GB (two 4GB) of 1600MHz DDR3 memory (can be upgraded to 32gb)
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX graphics processor with 1GB of GDDRS memory
    Storage: 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA
Again, this is for beginner video editing specifically but using all those major softwares. I will work mainly on student films, nothing fancy. I need a solid desktop that wont break the bank.

My guess is you are talking about this iMac from the Apple Store: http://store.apple.com/us/product/G0MS4LL/A/refurbished-27-inch-imac-34ghz-quad- core-Intel-Core-i7
If so, it should satisfy your needs nicely & at a reasonable price. This is the top of the line version of the "Late 2012" iMac, model ID "iMac13,2." The current "Late 2013" iMac, configured with an i7 CPU would be a somewhat better performer (its i7 option is a 3.5 GHz one, its baseline GPU is a bit more powerful, & its memory runs a little faster) but it costs $2200. The summary of comparison info at EveryMac.com suggests that extra $500 for the newer model would only get you around a 6% overall performance improvement, so that isn't much extra "bang" for a lot more of your bucks.
    Some things to consider:
    * Make sure the versions of the apps you own will run on a version of OS X that will run on this iMac. It originally came with Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8), so that's the lowest OS X version you can use with it. It will run Mavericks (OS X 10.9) quite well -- I have the low end version of this late 2012 iMac & it runs Mavericks fine, so this one will do even better. It should also run the forthcoming Yosemite (OS X 10.10) very well.
    • As has already been mentioned, you will probably want to upgrade the memory; however, I suggest you wait & see how it does with the stock 8 GB first, at least if you run Mavericks on it. Run Activity Monitor & check the "Memory Pressure" when your most demanding apps are running (available only with the Mavericks version of Activity Monitor). If the graph stays in the green, you won't see much if any improvement with more memory; if it goes into the yellow, consider an extra 8 GB (two 4 GB modules); & if it goes into the red zone, consider the full upgrade to 32 GB (four 8 GB modules). For reference, I don't run anything more demanding than Photoshop Elements & even with only 8 GB installed, I have never seen it hit the yellow zone.
    • Since you are on a budget & this iMac has USB 3 ports, I suggest that you consider USB 3 external HD's -- USB 3 is faster than FireWire 800 & unless you get a high performance Thunderbolt RAID (which are very expensive) USB 3 will give you the maximum transfer rates current external HD's can offer. Good USB 3 externals are relatively cheap & frequently on sale, so that can save you quite a bit of money.
    • Note that these iMacs do not have Firewire ports. If you already own a FW800 drive, you can buy Apple's Thunderbolt to Firewire adaptor ($30). If you have a FW400 drive, you can also buy a FW800 to 400 dongle from various manufacturers for about $10. I have a few old FW400 drives & with one minor exception they all work fine with the Apple adaptor & a "no name" dongle.
    • Also note they do not have a built-in optical drive ("superdrive"). You may not need one but if you do, you can save some money by getting a third party USB external drive instead of Apple's $80 external Superdrive, or get a higher performance one (possibly with Blu-ray capabilities) for about the same or only a little more than Apple's drive.
    * If this is an Apple refurb, it is eligible for Apple's 3 year extended AppleCare warranty ($169). I suggest that you consider getting that. An Apple refurb is unlikely to be any less reliable than a brand new, never been used one (& maybe even a little more reliable because they have been tested thoroughly by Apple techs), but I still think it is worth the price.
    • Whatever you do, don't wait too long to order. Apple's refurbs are popular enough that you can't count on the one you want being in stock & available.

  • Can someone tell me why my iMac lighting element is flickering?

Can someone tell me why my iMac lighting element is flickering and going to sleep mode too quickly?  The guys at Austin MacWorks (official Mac reps) said they could not duplicate the problem in the shop, but I have a feeling thery did not give it a thorough look.  I don't know to whom I should turn on this.

What model iMac? Do "About the Mac" and report what it says for processor type. That's a good start to figuring out to which of the four families of iMac yours belongs.
Also, check the OS version in the same window. Only 2002 iMacs with backlit displays can run the ancient 10.1 OS shown in your profile.
If you are in Auston Tx, I'm pretty sure it has a real Apple Store. That;s an option if you are still under warranty.

  • Can i buy a refurbished iMac using a gift card outside US, but delivering it in US?

    Hello All.
i'll gone stay in US for couple days and would like buy a refurbished imac, but my credit card is not from US, so i search how can i buy it, and some people said about that gift cards can be used to buy anything from apple...The refurbished models are included?

Yes.   Did the gift card come from the US? If not, what Country was it bought in?  Also, I'm almost positive refurbished models are only sold through the online Apple store, not at Apple retail store locations.

  • Question About Previous iMac vs New iMac Display

I just purchased a refurbished iMac 27" a few days ago. It arrived. I am having trouble visually adjusting to the screen. I've done extensive research on this topic already and have seen others with the same issue. I have heard numerous reasons for the blurry vision, headaches, etc, some attributing to a gap between the glass and the display, or the glare issue. I'm considering downsizing right now to a 21" to see if that will at all help, but I noticed with the new iMacs, they are advertising the following for the display:
"You won’t want anything to distract you from what you’re viewing on these big, beautiful 21.5- and 27-inch displays. And nothing will, thanks to a new display design that reduces reflection by 75 percent. In addition, because the LCD now sits right up against the glass, your content seems to leap off the screen."
    75 percent less reflection.
Full lamination has a second major benefit: It eliminates the reflection of light off the LCD panel and off the back of the display’s cover glass. But we also figured out how to reduce reflection off the front of the glass without compromising color quality. Instead of applying an antireflective coating to the glass in a conventional way, we adapted a process used on smaller surfaces like camera lenses and fighter pilots’ helmets. It’s called plasma deposition, and it involves coating the glass with layers of silicon dioxide and niobium pentoxide so precise and so thin they’re measured in atoms. The result: an astounding 75 percent reduction in reflectivity — and vibrant, accurate colors.
Is this new design made to solve the problem I am facing? Thanks for the help!

I recently had an eye examination done, and it came back perfect. This is the previous monitor I used: http://www.walmart.com/ip/AOC-931SWL/13890785
I get that it's completely different, but it didn't cause me any eye strain at all. I also tried calibrating the color, right now it's really warm, with less blue LEDs, and it's easy on the eyes, but it's definitely, still a problem.
I know that some people don't have any problem with them at all, but some others are having the same issue, but I am just trying to figure out if what Apple has done with the change in the new iMac is their solution to the problem.

  • I bough a refurbished iMac last year, unfortunately Im in need of a Logic board, but when I search FD093LL/A, no company seems to recognize this model but I do see all models, or at least most, starting with MD...whats the difference?

I bought a refurbished iMac last year, unfortunately I'm in need of a new/used Logic board, but when I search and contact Company with Mac parts, no one seems to recognize FD093LL/A witch makes it tough to identify parts, but I do see most Part Numbers starting with MD. Any reason why?
    Thank you

Refurbished models have a different order number. Replace the F with an M and see if the specifications listed match your computer’s.

  • Who can tell me about his forms2adf experience?

    Hello!
Why is forms2adf not part of the evaluation version? This makes no sense to me. It is hard for me to convince my chef, to buy a software and I can't even tell him, if we will need it or not. All the reports and demos on forms2adf look very nice, but I have to see how it works with our forms implementations.
What exactly is happening when forms2adf does the conversion? Did I understand it correct that forms2adf does the following things.
    1. Create jsp pages based on the forms canvas
    2. Create the ADF task flows
    3. Create the ADF Datacontrols Model
    4. Create the ADF BC EO, VO and AppModule
    5. Copy all the plsql code from forms into the database
Does anyone have experience with forms2adf and can tell me about his experience?
    Greetings
    Tobi

    Tobi,
I will get back to you later with a longer reply, there is a lot of "misperception" around forms2adf.
Regarding the functionality: 1) to 4): correct, 5) not correct, we only copy the PL/SQL code as documentation nodes to the application definition editor.

    ABAP mapping
ABAP mappings run on ABAP Stack and are developed in the ABAP workbench of the Integration Server.
You normally do not need to use the ABAP mappings and is preferable for someone with ABAP programming background. I should say JAVA functions would suffice any complex scenarios.

Steps required for developing XSLT Mapping
u2022 Create a source data type and a target data type
u2022 Create Message types for the source and target data types.
u2022 Create Message Interfaces includes Inbound Message interface and Outbound Message interface.
u2022 XSLT Mapping does not require creation of Message mapping, so donu2019t create any Message mapping.
u2022 Create an .XSL file which converts source data type into target data type.
u2022 Zip that .xsl file and import it into Integration Repository under Imported Archives.
u2022 In Interface Mapping choose mapping program as XSL and specify this zip program. (Through search help you will get XSL Mapping programs that you imported under Imported Archives, select your corresponding XSL Program)
u2022 Test this mapping program by navigating to Test tab.
By having look at above steps you can easily find out that this mapping is no where different from other mapping programs, here the challenging lies in creating an XSLT file. If you spend couple of minutes in studying XPATH tutorial you would be in ideal position to create an XSL Transformation (.xsl extension).
If you still find difficulties in generating XSL Transformation, then you can make use of a tool u201CAltova MapForceu201D which will create XSL file for you.
Steps for creating XSL file using this tool:
    1. Open the Alto MapForce, import the source .xml and .xsd file in it
    2. Similarly import the target .xml and .xsd in MapForce.
    3. These two data files should match with source and target data types in Integration Repository.
    4. Complete the graphical mapping using extensive list of XSLT functions available there.
    5. Save the mapping file.
    6. Click the XSLT tab. You will have the entire xslt logic there.
    7. Copy that content and save it as .xsl file.
    8. Zip above .xsl file and import the same into IR under Imported Archives.
    Hope this clears your doubts
    Thanks

  • Tell me about PCH , PAP and PNPCE database using in HR reports

    Hi SAP-HR Experts .
May anybody tell me about PCH , PAP and PNPCE database using in HR reports .
Does anybody have any ABAP report code about using thses LDB's .
I always used PNP database in my reports , i never come across in which i should use  PCH , PAP and PNPCE database .
may some body tell me the practical use these LDB's  .
My Best Regards to ALL : Rajneesh .

     minimize the amount of programming required, it often makes sense to use logical databases when generating reports. Reports are special programs that provide selection screens and access databases.  The logical database PNP consists of the database driver SAPDBPNP and is activated using the report attributes. It fulfils three main functions:
         Data retrieval:
HR data is written for each employee to the main memory, where it can be processed.
     Screening: A selection screen enables you to select employees in accordance with organizational criteria. For example, you can select all of the hourly wage earners of a particular personnel subarea.
     Authorization check: The implicit authorization check is another advantage of the logical database. Personnel data is frequently confidential and it does not make sense to allow all programs carry out the authorization check.
