I never even thought to ask before purchasing. Seemed like a no-brainer, like not bothering to ask if your new car comes with a steering wheel.
There's no way that Apple would have omitted something so basic as multitasking. There's got to be a way. If I can't browse on Safari while listening to Pandora, then this thing's going back.

I always used to think it was "ridiculously obvious" that someone would at least read a serious review of a device like this before buying it. "1 app at a time" was made crystal clear at the first announcement on Jan. 27.
But after reading various posts here I have stopped assuming that.
If it turns out that the iPad does not meet your needs after all, I think there is still a shortage of them in many areas, so you should not have any trouble returning or reselling it.

    So I updated, everything was working great, album downloading went great, gapless works, etc. I didn't have any issues with sound or anything like that. My problem seems to be a little different than everyone else. And I've noticed 3 things.
    1. My EQ settings for individual tracks only automatically update on the EQ intermittently. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it, I've tried with focus on the window, not on the window, changing the EQ setting to something different and then changing it back again. Any ideas?
    2. Downloading from the iTunes Store is butt slow. I'm not entirely sure that this is a problem with the university network I'm on or what but my download speeds are only around 5kb/sec on a fiber backbone but the last episode of Alias currently sits at 133 hours until completion (5.5 days!) and that's completely unacceptable for the network that I'm connected to.
    3. Downloads from the iTunes Store will randomly fail and restart from the beginning. This may be related to whether it's a university problem but I suspect there's a deeper underlying problem with my software. The error codes are different each time and I haven't been keeping track of them but they've appeared in the 9000 range as well as in the 5000 and 500 ranges.
    So what say ye all?
    P.S. Is it true what I'm hearing about downloaded artwork not being transferred to your iPod? I haven't noticed it.

    Ok, this is out of hand. My downloads just failed again. It seems like it gets to a certain point and then just starts over. I actually finished one the other night but then iTunes insisted on 'checking' the file...in actuality, this meant that it would waste processor cycles and supposedly limited bandwidth to mess up whatever was actually downloaded and delete the progress it had made. I can't believe that I'm the only one who has experienced a problem like this. The same applies to my problem with the equalizer. I know that some have bigger problems than this, however it seems like it's just another bug to add to the list of ones that Apple needs to fix rather soon in 7.0.1.
    Also, I've sent a request for support to Apple through the iTunes site about both of these issues and not surprisingly haven't received a reply yet. With all the problems that have been reported thus far, I might not reply either...

  • My apple tv does not work. only apps showing is computer and setting. I did not update my apple tv. just turned it on and all the apps weren't there.

    how can I fix this? all my apps disappeared! i tried restarting, location, network, unplugging, fixing HDMI....all brings me back to two apps on the front.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Assuming this is not the first time you have used your Apple TV
    You might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Also try restarting the router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    If the problem persists, try a restore, you may want to try the previous procedures several times before doing this.
    If restoring from the Apple TV doesn't help, try restoring from iTunes using a USB cable.
    If this is a new Apple TV, in addition to trying the above, it may also be that your network router is not allowing access to the timeserver, check that your router allows access over port 123.

  • Hard drive dead? Tell me it's not true

    OK, so my PB was working like a champ last night. And then, for some reason as it was doing it's weekly backup, it just froze. I restarted and got the flashing question mark/icon.
    I fear the worst as this is what I've done so far, with no good results (thus this post):
    - Started from OSX disk to re-install os but it could find no disk to install to
    - Opened Disk utility and it found the hard drive, but whe I repair or verify I get a "Verify volume failed with error. Could not unmount disk" error
    - I've tried to boot with Disk genius to use the tools there. It boots and can run tests but it takes forever (had to let it run all night to attempt a repair) and ultimately has no effect
    - I booted up using Disk Warrior. I get to the "starting services" screen and then it goes to a bue screen with spinning wheel and then shuts down
    - I tried restarting with "option V" - nothing. I get the flashing question mark/icon
    Please tell me I'm missing something and my hard drive s salvagable.

    Alas, from your description, it does not sound good.
    Have you also tried booting your PowerBook into FireWire Target Disk Mode (to see if it can be accessed), if you have a bootable backup on an external FireWire drive? Other than that, maybe erase the drive and zero all data.
    However, to be honest, I think you may need a replacement drive.

    Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
    Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPad shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
    Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).

    There have a few other posts from people saying that they are being asked their questions despite it not being the first purchase on the computer or device.
    If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then go to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you should see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
    If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you won't get the reset option - you will need to contact iTunes Support or Apple to get them reset.
    e.g. you can try contacting iTunes Support :http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management , and then 'Forgotten Apple ID security questions'
    or try ringing Apple in your country and ask to talk to the Accounts Security Team :http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
    When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down this page to add a rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312 .     Why do you say "not true"? The 4G iPod only has 256 MB of memory and out of memoty errors are not uncommon with iOS 5.
    memory is different that the 8, 32 ir 64 GB or storage on the 4G iPods.
    To resolve double click the Home button and delete the apps from the mulitasking dock that you are not using and the power off and back on the iPod. You have to do that periodically.

    You can sync apps as you normally would, but I do not believe this copies over app specifc data (i.e. saved game status/scores).
    You can always restore your new device with a backup from your old device.

    It sounds like you might have accidently copied Chess over from an Intel Mac, or an Intel Mac's installer DVD.  The architecture typically means it is designed uniquely for either Intel or PowerPC.  Be sure to extract Chess from the 10.5 Retail installer disc that looks like * and not any other disk.  http://www.charlessoft.com/ 's Pacifist lets you extract individual applications from installers without having to reinstall everything.

    Applecare Senior Advisor Txx Bxxx (I have his contact info in an email he just sent) just confirmed with me that the problem people are having with the App Store not loading is an apple issue with there servers, ITS NOT YOUR IPAD so don't go restoring it!   It's not happening to everyone however but they are looking into it, its really hit or miss.

    Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    This works for some users. Not sure why.
    Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year.Then see if you can connect to the store.

    It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
    First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:

    If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
    As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?
