Tell tale signs that a clip is a dv stream?

Hello all,
I have a question about how to recognize a dv stream clip when I meet it. I've read through the forums and now understand that FCP pretty much hates dv streams. I also have learned that the easy ways to know a dv stream clip are:
--know that it came from iMovie (or potentially another non-FCP app)
--see that the file extension is ".dv"
But here's where it gets curious for me... I have some clips that end in ".mov". When I put them in FCP, they behave a heck of a lot like dv streams, in that they need rendering (because the audio beeps). The client who brought me these clips "doesn't know" where they came from. But I suspect that these are dv streams inside the Quicktime mov container, but I don't know how to confirm that for sure...
In Quicktime Pro, if I open an .mov that is, say in h.264, if I choose get info, it will tell me that it's h.264. However, when I lined up a known DV/NTSC clip with my suspected dv stream clip and compared the info windows, the only difference I can see is that the DV/NTSC clip lists this:
DV, 720 x 480 (640 x 480), Millions
16-bit Integer (Big Endian), Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
while the dv stream clip suspect only lists:
DV, 720 x 480 (640 x 480), Millions
DV, Stereo, 32.000 kHz
Everything else is exactly the same!
Long winded way to ask my question, but does anyone know a sure-fire way to confirm that a clip is a dv stream? Or is the info I have above the only way to... guess?

You're right, dropping these things in to Compressor gives me a much faster way of being able to flip through the videos to see which is which. I still don't what I feel is a really solid answer to my original question, just a hypothesis. The clips that play fine have these characteristics:
Encoded Bounds:720x480
Display Bounds: 640x480
Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC CCIR 601/DV
Native Field Dominance: Bottom First
Frame Rate: 29.97
Audio: 16-bit Integer (Big Endian) Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
The ones that don't work are like this:
Encoded Bounds:720x480
Display Bounds: 640x480
Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC CCIR 601/DV
Native Field Dominance: Bottom First
Frame Rate: 29.97
Audio: DV Stereo (L R), 32.000kHz
I believe that, therefor, that the hypothesis to my original question is that .mov files that are dv streams show their tell-tale signs of being dv streams in the characteristics of the audio. It says "DV",... and then in FCP behaves like DV stream... therefor, I believe it to be a DV stream. Sound good?

Try looking in Settings and then Do Not Disturb. Is it possible that the Scheduled or Repeated Calls settings are enabled?

Sort of. There is an app called art shop that gives you a place to park clip art. But I don't think you really need it.
If you have a collection of clip art you want available, move it to the camera roll on your pad/ phone, then copy paste into your document the clip you want.
You can get them into the camaera roll by putting them in a single event in your picture library and syncing them over, or e mail them to your self, and save to the camera roll, or send them to drop box, and bring them down that way.
The challenge is getting them all in one place to make it easy for you to find, which is why syncing might be the best approach in the long run.
As near as I can tell there is not a ready made clip art collection in app format laying around.

Let me tell you this: don't worry about it.
No one is able to tell very easily if the video is in 24 or 30 fps. You can only see the difference between, like, 14 and 24 fps. Just dismiss it and move on. It's all fine.
(the only time that I personally need to make sure my camera is shooting at it's highest fps, is when I will be putting the vidoe into slow motion.)

Have you upgraded to iPhoto 9.6 for compatibility with Yosemite? If not, try that first.
It looks like iPhoto has lost the connection between the thumbnails and the original image files.
This can be caused by a corrupted iPhoto library, or the originals have been deleted or moved.
Try first to rebuild your iPhoto Library:
If you do not have a current backup of the iPhoto library, make a copy of the library, but do not overwrite any previous backup.
Launch iPhoto with the ⌥⌘-key combination (option-command) held down.
Select "rebuild" from the first aid panel. This may take a while for a large library.
Can you now see your photos again?
If not, rebuild the library with iPhoto Library manager as described by Old Toad: Re: iphoto crashed

i drag in an audio clip all of a sudden this becomes the be all and end all, and i want to sync some vid clips to that audio track, so let's say i drag in a 10 second video clip, at the end of the 10 seconds, i want to add a transition to fade to black.. i go to the transition window.. choose the cross dissolve or fade to colour, but it will not allow me to drag it on that video clip.. it always ends up on the audio track. this bloody application is so confusing compared to final cut. please help!

Yes, that little piece of info is critical. I'd say the biggest difficulty with FCPX is the whole new language.
If I read you correctly, your Audio is in the Main Storyline (Track 1 in plain old Editorese). This makes anything else you add (above or below) a "connected clip", which we can no longer think of as "Track 2" because Jobs sez so. So, yes, you cannot just add a transition to either end of a connected clip.
No argument with Tracy's solution, because I haven't seen any other general solution presented for any attempt to treat connected clips as the main storyline. And, of course, when they were "track 1" and "track 2", you could.
An alternative solution, however, is to highlight the connected clip and press Ctrl-V to bring up the Video Animation Editor. Click the "reveal button" for Compositing: Opacity (bottom, right). Once open, there is a "fade handle" to the right top. Drag it left for however much fade you wish. (there is one on the left as well, but you were only talking about a fade-out.)
A second alternative, perhaps for future projects where everything keys on audio, may be to create a Gap clip (used to be called slug) in the primary storyline before ever dropping in the audio. Then you can add video to the main story line and modify it without having to go thru hoops to do the simplest thing.

My SnowLeopard started to NOT show icons under icon view in the documents, desktop, applications windows; only the name will be shown in white color font against a black backdrop. (This has happened before but it returned to the normal state where I can see both the icon and the name of the documents.) Why is that so? Is it a sign that the hard drive is failing?
I would like to know how to post screenshot here so that people can perhaps, better understand my situation.

Erm.....I would say two or three times it's normal click volume. Does it make them at start up and take quite some time to start up or find files?

I have the latest 5.9 version on my Iphone 5s
and I couldn't help but notice a strange bug.
When I turn on Skype,
at first everyone is offline (just loading I guess),
then I see some green lights appear
at the bottom of the profile pictures of those that are online
(normal up to this point).
The strange bug is that in the case of one of my contacts
whenever i turn on skype the green light appears for 3 seconds and then disappears.
I find this strange since the green circles of other contacts that are online remain
whereas this contact's green circle always disappears after couple of seconds,
which leaves me wondering if this contact has blocked me.
After I noticed this strange bug I turned skype on and off numerous times
to see if the same thing happens everytime and indeed it does.
I could not ask the contact directly since we are not in good terms
and I cannot imagine this contact going offline everytime I go online.
So why is this happening?
Is it a sign that the contact has blocked me?
