Telling you to check your network is deceiving. I'...

Today I was greated with the bellow screenshot:
The reason this started happening is: Skype is actively searching for users of older versions and blocking them until the user updates to the latest version. In other words: Update or you wont be allowed to use Skype.
It does not matter if you are happy with the older version (IMHO: The newer versions are trash, in appearance and functionality), or if you pay for subscription use: Update or you wont be allowed to use Skype.
I know the above to be true, because I chatted with Skype Support to find out why -all of a sudden- Skype says my network has 'network errors' and I can not log in. Instead of saying: We are blocking you from using Skype because of your use of an old version.
Skype / Microsoft decides to block you while faulting your equipment. Really guys???
I'm sorry, but that -to me- is not a good thing. Not only am I dissatisfied with the latest versions, retaining the old version in order to continue using Skype, but now Skype intentionally blocks usage of a version that is (in all respects) still functional; AND blames you for not being able to log in.
Cancelling of my subscriptions has been initiated. No more paying for poor updates, performance, and deception.

Kristian T: How may I help?
Cesar: When i attempt to log in with my android device, i am told to check network settings.
Kristian T: Got it.
Kristian T: Just to confirm. You were notified that you have to check the connection settings or internet settings of your Android device?
Kristian T: Is this the first time that this happened?
Kristian T: Are you able to connect to your Wifi connection without any problems?
Cesar: Yes, that is what it says, and this is the first day its happened.
Kristian T: Got it.
Cesar: I am chatting with you via my tablet, via wifi, at this time.
Kristian T: Before, were you able to Skype through that certain device?
Kristian T: I see.
Cesar: Yes, just yestetday, and very early in the morning
Kristian T: Would you be able to try to reinstall through playstore?
Kristian T: And kindly reset your Wifi settings. Try to forget the network connection then connect to your Wifi again.
Kristian T: Just to trouble shoot.
Kristian T: Let me know what happened Thank you.
Cesar: I am using 3.2.0.66xx. If I uninstall and install from playstore, it will give me a newer version.
Cesar: I am also chatting with you now from the device i use for skype.
Kristian T: Yes it will.
Kristian T: The latest version for Android.
Cesar: I do not want the latest android version.
Kristian T: I understand that. To be able to find a fix for this we need to trouble shoot Cesar. Because our Skype team cannot instantly fix this from our end. We need to trouble shoot.
Kristian T: How about the Android 4.0
Kristian T: May I know your exact device Cesar?
Cesar: Android version on my tablet is 4.0. Skype is 3.2.0
Kristian T: Got it.
Cesar: My tablet is, galaxy tab 2, 7inch.
Kristian T: Okay.
Kristian T: One moment. Let me confirm this with our developers.
Cesar: I just cleared all data, and force stopped skype. Still will not let me log in.
Kristian T: I already confirmed this Cesar. As of now. Skype developers are implementing the new version to all Skype users to All android devices and other OS , They were firm about this because this is with the Skypes terms of use. That when a user signs up with Skype they fully agreed on the terms that our Skype developers implemented.
Cesar: You are not making any sense. Please clarify
Kristian T: Bottom line Cesar. Skype developers does not want previous versions of the Skype application anymore.
Kristian T: That's basically it.
Kristian T: It is their decision.
Cesar: What does that have to do with my use of what i have installed on my tablet?
Kristian T: They can track users that has the previous versions installed on their devices. They are now retiring the previous versions of Skype. And it cannot be used anymore. This is the updates that was given to us by our Internal Skype developers.
Cesar: So, what you are telling me is, that even though i have 3.2.0 installed on my tablet, the developers are targeting and blocking me from using 3.2.0??
Kristian T: Yes.
Cesar: And you are sure about this?
Kristian T: Yes.
Kristian T: you can confirm this with our specialist.
Kristian T: Do you want a direct link to get to them Cesar?
Cesar: Please provide a link for them, and a link to initiate a full refund of my recent account subscription.
Kristian T: Got it. One moment Before I provide you the link to get to them. Anything else that I can assist you with aside from this Cesar?

Bingo. This is exactly what happened to my old version of Skype for Android.
I am using 4.0.0.17847 on my Android Phone. It worked *flawlessly* for a very long time since I started using it in late 2013. A few days ago, POOF! Broken.
I tried many things, I even went as far as Factory Resetting my phone (!), flashing firmware and even, get this, ripping out the Android 4.2 ROM my phone came with using Recovery Mode and Flashtool, nuking the memory, flashing Android 4.3 and still nothing. Turns out Skype was indeed blocking older versions. What a waste of 9 hours that was.
So I was forced to install the "latest" version. What a piece of disorganized cluttered crap. Where chats were actually readable in 4.0, they were oversized and totally broken in the latest  version. Uninstalled, and looking for a workaround.

  • HT204408 Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again

Hi. I have been getting the error "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again." For imessage and facetime on my ipad 4 16gb wifi only. This only started when I upgraded to ios7. i have tried resetting all and my network settings, changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.8.4.4.4.4, setting my time and date to automatic, and changing my apple id password. I tried to use another person's apple id to sign in but I'm getting the same error. I'm pretty sure my network connection is not the problem because my parents are both using iphones and have upgraded to ios7 but imsg and facetime still works for them. Help?

Hi all, I have just fixed this issue on my daughters and her friends iPad, problem with iMessage and FaceTime, when you try to sign in it tells you to check your network.
No need to do a full back up and restore!!!
Go to Settings / General / Reset / Reset all settings.
This will not cause you to lose any photos apps or media.
Please note you will need to reset your time zone and wifi settings etc once you have completed this task so make sure you have your wifi key to hand.
Once it has restarted and you have re-entered the time and wifi settings go back into
Settings / Messages and sign in to iMessage using your Apple ID and password.
    Then
Settings / FaceTime and sign in to FaceTime using your Apple ID and password.
    All sorted. Enjoy.

  • When I try to use FaceTime on my Macbook Air, I try to verify the email I want people to call me with, and it says verified, but soon an message comes up that says "Could not verify the email address. Please check your network connection and try again."

So our school lets us use Macbook Airs for the school year, and it has facetime on it. I know facetime isn't blocked because like everyone else is using it. So I decide to give it a try. I click the icon, it says enter your apple ID. I dont have one, so I click to make one, and do so. I then enter my apple ID and click next. The screen reads "People will call you using your email address. What email address would you like to use?" I enter my email address in the box below the message, and then go to my email and click the link, and sign in, thus verifying the email. I go back to the facetime window, and click next. At the top it says Verified, but when I click next it doesn't go on to the next step, it simply blacks out the next button so that I can not click it, and after a few minutes a message comes up that says "Could not verify the email address. Please check your network connection and try again."
So that is the issue, please help!!!!!
*Note-I repeat that I know it is not blocked by the school because everyone else uses it just fine.*

    Hello BassoonPlayer,
Since you are using one of the the school's Macbooks, it is quite possible that the time and date are not properly set on the computer that you are using.  FaceTime will not work if you do not have the proper time zone set up for the location that you are in.  This past week, there were a two other Macbook users I've helped by simply telling them to set the Date/Time properly.  By the way, you described your problem very well, which makes it easier for us to help you.  Hope this solves your problem -- if not, post back and I can suggest other remedies.

  • '"Connection Failed" : The server "rrnas01" may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again' message

'"Connection Failed" : The server "rrnas01" may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again' message keeps displaying whenever I try to open any Adobe CS5 applications (except for Adobe Acrobat Pro). It displays until I click "OK" about 15-20 times or so and then will finally let my program open.
I have tried deleting files within my Library/Preferences folder and turning off/deleting login items within my system preferences as other forums suggested but nothing happened. Spending 3.5 hours on the phone with Adobe and completely uninstalling and then reinstalling the entire CS5 Master Collection didn't work either.
Also, it may be helpful to know that my programs worked fine for about three weeks then when we got internet and changed the password (the join, not the adminstrative password) with the wireless network "ScubaSteve" (which I've used with no problems at my old apartment) it started acting up. I have never seen "rrnas01" before so I don't know at all where it came from. I also installed the free 30 day trial of Suitcase Fusion 3 recently, but thinking that could also be the cause I have uninstalled it, and still no help.
Please help me! And please keep in mind I don't know all the computer lingo that a lot of the people in these forums seem to know. Thanks in advance for ny help you can give me.

It may not be possible .. there is a major bug between Mountain Lion and the TC where the TC disk goes off the radar of the computer.
Lion is also affected but not as badly.
7.6.4 seems worse than earlier firmware.. so back to 7.6.1 or 7.5.2 if that is possible.
Obviously that is not a solution for a later Gen5 TC.
Reset to factory after the firmware downgrade. .use all network names that are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
If the TC is the main router set the dhcp to a very short lease time.. eg 30min.. and see how it goes, or try a longer lease like 99days.
I prefer the very short lease but response has been mixed.
Use ethernet not wireless.. ethernet is always more reliable and stable than wireless.
And last .. a nightly electric timer that powers off every night at midnight for 1min.. would not be the first device we have suggested a fix that amounts to beat the unit to the punch by forcing it to reboot since it is unstable.

hello. my ive been trying to restore my ipod touch 4th gen because it was frozen on the apple logo. i got it to go to the connect to itunes image. i plugged it into my computer to try and restore. i open itunes and it says "you must restore this ipod to use itunes". i click ok and then i accept the terms. after that it shows that it will take 41 mins to restore, but then it says "we connot restore this, there was a problem. it also says to check your network connections or try again" my network connetions are on and its still not working! please help

Disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and update usually resolves the timeout error.

  • TS1424 I am having issues downloading music from iTunes, it comes up saying an unknown error has occurred - please check your network connection. Now I can connect to iTunes store and have itunes as an exception for downloads so don't know what else to do

Hello, I've started having an issue downloading songs and apps from iTunes to our PC which has Windows XP Professional installed. We also use Karspersky Anti-Virus and Firefox as an internet browser. Have never had this issue before, it comes up with "An unknow error has occured and downloads are stopped with an error 8003. Also says please check your network connection" We have no issue connecting to iTunes store or the network so not sure how to fix this. It is very frustrating. Have checked Windows Firewall and iTunes is an exception, can't think of anything else why it won't work.

I sounds as though you need to start again. The following article tells you how to completely remove iTunes and Quicktime. If you didn't actually install iTunes you wont find it in add/remove programs so you can't do that bit, but still delete the iTunes folder in Program Files as advised in the article.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
Once you have got rid of them, try installing the latest version of iTunes. There is a link to it in the article.
Itunes wont move your music for you, get iTune sgoing then ask again.

    Hello, Hannaabe.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I see you have already been through most of the troubleshooting steps for this issue.  Make sure to take a look at the section below labeled If you've waited 24 hours and still can't activate FaceTime or iMessage.
If you see "Waiting for Activation", "Activation unsuccessful", or "An error occurred during activation"
These messages occur when your iPhone is trying to activate your phone number with iMessage or FaceTime.
To resolve these status messages, follow these steps. After each step, turn FaceTime and iMessage off and on again in Settings > Messages and Settings > FaceTime.
Update to the latest version of iOS.
Make sure that you have a cellular network connection with your cellular provider. You need a cellular network connection to activate iMessage and FaceTime with your iPhone phone number.
Go to www.apple.com in Safari to make sure that you have a data connection. You need a data connection to activate iMessage and FaceTime with your iPhone phone number.
Make sure that you can send and receive SMS. You need a valid SMS messaging plan to activate FaceTime and iMessage.
Make sure that FaceTime hasn't been restricted: tap Settings > General > Restrictions > FaceTime.
Set iPhone to the correct time zone: tap Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: If Set Automatically is on but the incorrect time zone appears, turn Set Automatically off and choose the correct time zone, date, and time.
Contact your carrier to verify that there are no restrictions, blocks, or filters on text messages. Restrictions, blocks, or filters on text messaging will prevent iMessage and FaceTime registration from completing.
If "Waiting for Activation" still appears after you perform these steps, turn FaceTime and iMessage off and on in Settings > Messages and Settings > FaceTime. You may need to wait up to 24 hours to complete activation. Most attempts will take less than an hour, but some attempts may take up to 24 hours. If your issue isn't resolved after 24 hours, please contact Apple for assistance. If you've recently performed a remote wipe on your iPhone, wait 24 hours from the time you performed the remote wipe, and then turn iMessage off then back on.You can still activate iMessage and FaceTime with your Apple ID when these status messages appear. You can see that you've activated FaceTime and iMessage with your Apple ID by tapping:
Settings > FaceTime > You can be reached by FaceTime at:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You can be reached by iMessage at:
If you've waited 24 hours and still can't activate FaceTime or iMessage
If you're still unable to resolve the symptoms above after performing these troubleshooting steps, please contact Apple for assistance.
