  • Still can't use cover flow

okay, i still can't use cover flow. i got the itunes 7 update, 7.0.1, but it still comes up with "can't browse album covers on this computer." is it just because i use windows 2000, or do i need to change something on my computer?

It shouldn't be related to Windows 2000, and luckily there are a few things you can try.
First, here's Apple's reference to the problem, iTunes 7 for Windows is unable to display album covers in Cover Flow.
The following have fixed the problem for many people...
Make sure the graphics card has 32Mb of memory or more. If you're not sure carry on as we're going check this later
Download and install iTunes 7.0.1 (or higher), http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Make sure that your Hardware Acceleration is set at Full. Control Panel > Display, Settings > Advanced, Troubleshoot
Install the latest drivers for your Graphics card - this fixes most problems
Download and install DirectX 9.0c (or higher), DirectX 9.0c
Start > Run, type dxdiag and press enter. Go to the Video tab (or Display n) and enable DirectDraw Acceleration and Direct3D acceleration.
Whilst on this tab check the Approx. Total Memory value to ensure your graphics card has at-least 32MB of available memory
    If iTunes still isn't working...
Uninstall iTunes, don't re-install just yet...
Install Quicktime 7.1.3 (or higher), http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
    Install iTunes again
However, I can confirm that none of the above will work for the Matrox G550. Guess which card I have...

  • Using Cover Flow, then resizing window

I love cover flow for my finder windows, but every time I resize a window, it automatically makes the cover flow section increase in size.
This drives me nuts; I'm always trying to increase the window size so I can see more options available to me in the list. In essence, cover flow is more of a pretty additional thing, but I never actually use it. Should I just stop using Cover Flow?
Is there an easy fix to this issue? I've looked in View Options and set the "Use as Defaults" for window size for now... I really think this will solve my problem. But I'm just curious to see if there's anything else out there regarding Secrets of the Finder Windows.

I've never found a way to have those two panes scale proportionally (what I'd prefer) or prefer the lower list pane to the upper Cover Flow pane. I think the reason for this is that if you are using Cover Flow view, that's your primary method of navigation and thus that pane should be the one that enlarges when you scale the window up. If you are using the list below, you probably should just use the list view instead of Cover Flow. That does seem to be the logic anyway.

  • Can't get Cover Flow to keep previous window settings, help?

I'm sure that there is some easy quick fix to this but I couldn't find it anywhere doing various web searches. Anyway, I'm new to Snow Leopard and I've noticed a very irritating difference/glitch/whatever between it and Leopard.
I am a graphics guy and I always used Cover Flow in Finder to search through my documents and files and heap of images. The old Cover Flow view always opened new windows to the size and proportions (image vs. text) as my previous window(s). In this new Snow Leopard that I installed, whenever I open a new Finder window in Cover Flow it gives me this huge 90% image view with just this small 10% file texts at the bottom of the window. Each time I have to click and drag the divider bar back up to the 50% line. If I click on a file, again, the view jumps to this flippin' huge image view and I have to drag the divider back up to the middle.
Is there anyway to get Finder to be like in the old Leopard where it remembers that I want Cover Flow to always be a 50/50 split between seeing the images and the file names? Its driving me crazy. I would assume there is just some little button or something that I am missing. Thanks.

I gave that a try and it "kinda" works but doesn't really solve the annoyance. If you resize it again in the slightest or shift the divider bar, the whole thing jumps back to the 90/10 view. Why!?!?! Does that not drive anyone else insane?
Thanks for the duct tape fix though Captfred. I can at least use that in the mean time. I really hope they fix that problem with the next update. It worked just fine before, but now it makes cover flow somewhat unusable.

I have a tiny problem that is driving me mad. When I am playing an album in iTunes using cover flow view (with the playlist beneath the artwork picture) the  picture is exactly above the album title. All is symmetrical. When I switch to full screen display, the artwork moves a couple of inches to the left and the display is therefore asymmetrical. Why and how do I correct it? It would drive you mad to.
    Thanks for any help,
    Graham

I was having the same problem, but tried the "Top Button + Home Button" reset and that did work for me. My unofficial guess is that perhaps RAM caches get filled through daily use of various apps leaving no memory for cover flow. Resetting the phone on the phone itself seems to reset that RAM. I can't say it's a cure-all, but it solved my issue. Hope this helps.

  • Green / Magenta squares after using Cover Flow or the like

I'm on a C2D white 20" iMac upgraded to 10.5.1 Leopard. Whenever I use Cover Flow, or Front Row, or Time Machine, I get these squares all over the screen and I can only clear them out with a reboot.
I tried searching on the issue here but most things I'm seeing are for lines, either horizontal or vertical, but it seems they're all afflicting the alum iMacs, and not white ones like mine.
Is there by any chance a fix I could exact to rectify this?
Here's a screenshot of what I'm referring to:

I have exactly the same issue, just started appearing after I upgraded to Leopard (10.5.1) after Christmas. For me, this occurs particularly when using video effects in PhotoBooth or iChat. Also sometimes when I'm using iPhoto. (I am still using the previous release of the iLife suite).
Tonight I upgraded to the Leopard-compatible version of RapidWeaver, and I started to see the same green/magenta squares effect appearing in "thumbnail" images on photo pages. That makes me think it's something in the graphics processing, and not just the display hardware.
Please advise if you heard anything helpful from Apple or another user. Thanks.

  • How do I get itunes to accept my credit card information?  If I enter Mastercard, it won't keep the security code.  If I enter a Visa, it tells me I can't use that card even though that is the card I was using before the Mastercard

I have updated my account.  I have a Mastercard as my method of payment now after switching from a Visa.  My phone and computer will not retain the security code for this card, so I can't access the store on my devices.  I tried switching back to the Visa card and iTunes tells me I can't use that card

The card information must exactly match the issuing bank's billing records precisely. Often this is not a discrepancy with the security code, but an address or ZIP code that is not an exact match.
iTunes Store: My credit card's security code or zip code does not match my bank's records

  • 4th gen. iPod touch restarts when using Cover Flow while playing music

I was just listening to music the past few months ever since I got my iPod touch back in August (and I love it) but for the past week I have been having this annyoing issue when I tilt my iPod touch to use Cover Flow. When I tilt the iPod while playing a song, the Cover Flow (and everything else on the screen) freezes and the music skips much like a CD skipping, then it restarts itself with the dotted circle loading symbol.
I am using a 4th generation iPod touch upgraded to iOS 5.0.1.
I have also noticed it only does this on certain albums by the way; some do it, while most others don't. I think the issue may be with the artwork as it's custom artwork and not artwork downloaded from iTunes.
Any help with this if possible? Thanks.

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • Shuffling genre using cover flow not possible

    Hi,
Using iTunes to play music over the home stereo became so much nicer with cover flow, however, you cannot shuffle, for example by genre, when using cover flow. Using list view I selected the genre and shuffle, then switched to cover flow, and it starts shuffling all songs in iTunes and does not stick to the selected genre. I guess this is because it looses the browser even if you don't use full screen mode. I could of course create playlists for all genres but this seems to be excessive use of playlists, especially because it's not necessary for anything else.

Yeah the Cover Flow option is checked when I click it. I have checked it again and it is still checked - but it still appears as the picture shown above.

The Apple ID and Password that was Originally used to Activate the iDevice is required.
If you cannot get this information from the seller
Removing a device from a previous owner’s account
You need to return the Device for a refund, as you will not be able to re-activate it.

The problem is that you try to merge different Apple IDs (your old account and your me.com account) which is not possible. Apple will not let you do that.
Quote: "Can I merge multiple Apple IDs into one?

You cannot merge two or more Apple IDs into a single one. You can, however, use one Apple ID for iCloud services and another Apple ID for store purchases (including iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match). See “Using one Apple ID for iCloud and a different Apple ID for Store Purchases” above for details."

When I try to see cover flow in iTunes, it says that it cant. Could someone tell me what is wrong? My information is in the green on the bottom.

    OBGYNDR
With iPhoto 7 the old iPhoto Library Folder has become a Unix Style Package folder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
All of these are safer and fster than surfing the iPhoto Library Folder.

  • Using Cover Flow from 1 Mac on another.

I'm putting together a music server using my Mini. The idea is to allow the other Macs on the network to access this one computer for all of the recorded music in the Mini's library. I am doing this successfully, but for two things that have to do with Album artwork and Cover Flow when running through iTunes.
When connected to the shared iTunes folder, all of the options in the VIEW menu are grayed out — all that's available is List View. It would be great to be able to change the view to Cover Flow so that users could view the cover art just as you can from the host computer. I've gone through all of the preference panels but haven't found anything that looks like it would accomplish this. Am I missing something? Would netTunes do this for me?
Likewise, when using Front Row to access the shared music folder, none of the artwork is present. Any way to see the art in Front Row?

This is one that I was able to solve on my own. Thanks for all the suggestions.

  • Can't change Cover Flow Art

I was able to change the album artwork in "Get Info". The correct art shows in the "Now Playing Window", but the Cover Flow artwork wont change. I've been successful in changing the Cover Flow artwork using the "Get Info" change method in the past, but this is the first time I've tried it since the latest iTunes update...maybe there's a bug needs squashing. How do I change the Cover Flow artwork?

I gave that a try and it "kinda" works but doesn't really solve the annoyance. If you resize it again in the slightest or shift the divider bar, the whole thing jumps back to the 90/10 view. Why!?!?! Does that not drive anyone else insane?

  • Can coverflow or cover flow be sped up?

I have an 8-core, 8 GB machine. With one Finder folder open to a directory of images, set to cover flow (or coverflow) mode, moving from one image to the next with the up/down cursor keys results in first, a blurry version of the image, and second, a few moments later, a sharpened version.
During this process, my CPU meters are minimally active; certainly there is no indication of heavy work going on. But coverflow can't keep up with even the most gentle viewing rate... tap, tap tap and it's way behind. This seems ridiculous to me. I can browse images at many times this speed with no intermediate "blurry" render in many other applications - why is finder so pokey?
And more importantly, is there a way to speed it up? It's really kind of driving me nuts.

I don't experience any latency at all, in either Quick Look, Cover Flow, or Finder.
Have you tried creating a new account and see how your apps work in that User acct? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.)
Open System Preferences > Accounts > "+" make it an admin account.
If this works, then log back into your problem account and go to Users/yourname/Library/Preferences and trash these two files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    Then, restart.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)
If that fix it and the issue is limited to your user account try starting up Safe Mode (It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)
If your Finder features work correctly that way, go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items, and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to/Users/yourname/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving/Users/yourname/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
If the issue is systemwide then, you may be able to repair this with the The 10.6.4 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
