Telnet 4400 controller - client/SSID summary

I am trying to come up with a report that pulls a summary of connected users (ip addresses) by the SSID they are associated with.
Here is as for as I have been able to get
show wlan ID
this shows SSID details, but what I am looking for.

No we are not using WCS at this time. We wish to move that way.

  • 4400 Controller Dropping DHCP Packets

We have a working wireless set up with an external DHCP server. We just tried to set up a new one but we are faced with this issue:
Client DHCP requests are forwarded from the controller to the serve. The server sees the requests and assigns addresses but for some reason the clients aren't able to get them. From what I'm reading around the 'net it looks like it could be an Option 43 setting or that th controlles is dropping the request. If anyone has ideas it would be much appreciated.

Do you have an Option 43 setup for the clients, or for the AP's to connect to the controller over a L3 link? In the Interface setup that the WLAN is linked to, did you add or change the IP address to the list of DHCP servers for that link. The controller pretty much forwards everything on to the LAN, but then restricts the packets from the LAN to the WLAN. I hope this helps.

  • Is there any limitation of firmware or hardware for QoS configuration (4400 controller & 1252 AP's)

    Hi Experts,
Before proceeding for adding AP model 1131 and 1252 into my set-up , I need to know whether any limitation of firmware or hardware for QoS configuration in wireless set-up .
    I have 4400 controller and 1130 & 1250 AP models.

    Hi Vinod,
Since you have 4400 controllers, you can run upto WLC 7.0.x code. Refer this for more detail
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/compatibility/matrix/compatibility-matrix.html
there is no specific limitation to 1131/1252 AP model as such, everything is WLC software dependent.
From later software 7.4.x,7.6.x,8.x, lots of improvement for QoS configuration & bandwidth control, but since your controller is old hardware, you cannot have those latest features.
here is a reference post on how QoS works in wireless environment

  • What VLAN should the management interface be in on a 4400 controller?

    Hi,
Some documentations put the management interface on a 4400 controller into a regular tagged VLAN. But some documentations put it in an untagged Native VLAN, the tag=0. What is the difference? Which configuration is optimal?
    Thanks,
    Justin

The answer is "it depends" :-)
I would not say any particular config is optimal though. If you have an established VLAN for management interfaces, I would use that. However if you put the management interface in the same VLAN as your AP's, AP's find your controllers easier. Otherwise you can use DHCP to point AP's to controllers.
I prefer to tag the frame as to which VLAN it belongs to, even if that is the same as the native VLAN.

  • WLAN 4400 Controller - Distributing AP's across controllers

We have 10 4400-100 controllers located at a central location, which manage approximately 750 APs across 20 remote locations. Is there a best practice concerning the distribution of those APs across the controllers.  We currently distribute the APs from a single remote site across 2 or more controllers for the purposes of fault tolerance.  My concern is channel/power selection when APs are located on different controllers.  Is there a downside to distributing the APs across the controllers?

The best way to handle this is to put all the AP's for a site onto the same controller.  This would reduce the number of mobility handoffs when a client roams between controllers.  When mobility events have to occur for roaming it just adds a little latency.
As far as the RRM concerns, just make sure you have all the controllers in the same mobility and RF groups.  The controllers will communicate between eachother and sub-RF groups will be created for the controllers that have AP's that can hear eachother.

Depends on the firmware you are running.
If you are running 7.0.116.0 then you can use a feature called Interface Groups.

  • WIRELESS 4400 CONTROLLER WPA-2

Hi Wireless Lan controller 4400 the documnetation on this product is awfull . I am trying to configure wpa-2 using 802.1x authentication or leap is this possable as for web interface cannot find were you set authentication type. if wpa-2 uses a particular type what is it. Probably a very dumb question but these option apper to be availble on all airnet products

Web authentication enhancements extend the total number of characters on Web authorization customization to 500 characters. The user can also use a "submit" button instead of a full user name / password challenge. A third enhancement allows Wi-Fi Protected Access/Pre-Shared Key (WPA/PSK) and WPA2/PSK to work with Web authentication. These enhancements provide more flexibility in deploying wireless networks with Web authentication.
Wireless LAN Controllers supported: Cisco 2000, 4100, and 4400 Series
Access points supported: Cisco Aironet 1010 and 1020 Series lightweight access points

  • Client SSID selection with Band Select

    Hi,
We have 2 SSID's. One configured for WPA\TKIP and another configured for WPA2\AES.
All clients have both SSID's configuration deployed via group policy with the WPA2\AES SSID being given priority in the windows supplicant.
However, I am seeing that some clients will connect to AP's using the WPA\TKIP SSID even when they support WPA2\AES and are configured to use WPA2\AES SSID first.
I've been trying to understand why this might happen and I was thinking that perhaps the band select feature could be causing this for clients with only b\g\n radios. By delaying the probe response to the probe request for the WPA2\AES SSID the client then selects WPA\TKIP SSID.
Has any else seen similair behavoir?
    Thanks

I have to say it sounds like a client issue. Capture 802.11 and see what is being negotiated by the client and ap.

  • Controller different ssid

    Hello all
i use cisco controller and LW access-points.From one access-point i broadcast two SSID.Is it possible to change wireless channels for different SSID ?
For example in one access-point SSID 1 is wireless channel 6 and the other SSID is 11 ?
    Thanks

    Hello.
You can only have one channel per radio.
on 2.4 GHz radio, you can NOT have different SSIDs on different channels.

  • APs disconnect from 4400 controller

I have 2 4402 controllers with ~20 APs on each. For some reason, all the APs will go down on one controller and migrate to the other, like the controller has gone offline. This only happens to one controller. I've checked the network switches and no errors. This happens every 6 hours or sometimes completely random. I have the latest version on the controllers. Any ideas on where to start to look?

What version of WLC firmware are you running?
Even with 4.0.206.0 (the most current) as well as some other earlier versions from fall 2006, there are some known issues with APs rebooting.
