Telnet Attack and Deletion of iTunes Music
Has anyone heard of telnet taking over a Mac and then, days later, all of one's music files being deleted? There had been a recent experiment with Windows via Boot Camp and Parallels.
Thanks for your help.
Nope. However one day in 2004 when I was on a network with my Windows 98 laptop, I clicked on a web banner that said the
following.
Do you support President Bush?
Yes or NO
I clicked on the yes in Internet Explorer, and a FTP DOS Window opened and attempted to connect to a server and download a file and also upload files from my laptop to this FTP server. My computer was locked up and and I could not do anything. I do not know what was happening, so I ejected my network card and my computer was free again.
I do not know what happened and if sensitive files were copied to the hackers server. But I guess its the cost of owning a computer these days.

When I plug in iPhone (5.1.1) to computer, playlists show up on the iPhone (when plugged in), that do not appear when it is not plugged in. And I can't erase them. I have iTunes match, and deleted all my music on the iPhone, but that had no effect on the phantom playlist that shows up on the PC when I plug in the iPhone to the PC. I cannot manually move songs or playlists from the PC to the iPhone
Help greatly appreciated.Unplug your Iphone out of your computer and replug it back in. It took me several times before I could do this

If I transfer my music library to a usb stick and delete my itunes account from my computer will I be able to recover my itunes account info from the cloud?
It depends on whihch IPad you purchased. The 16GB, the 32GB, or the 64GB for storage.
Tap Settings > General > About. You'll see Capacity in the list.
How Mac OS X and iOS report storage capacity
You get 5GB of free storage space with iCloud but you can purchase more if necessary.
Apple - iCloud - Learn how to set up iCloud on all your devices
If you setup an iCloud account, it won't be necessary to sync your iPad media with iTunes. Everything is synced via your Wi-Fi network with iCloud.
If you do not want to use iCloud for storage and syncing, iTunes is the only software you can use to sync iTunes media with an iOS device. -
My "itunes library" folder is empty. My libray music (prior to upgrading itunes) is now in an .xml file in my itunes location under my music. How do I extract/convert this .xml file to a Itunes database and restore my Itunes music library??? Thanks, Tom
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

When I try to delete a song off my iphone by swiping right to left it doesnt delete, I even tried plugging the usb into my pc and deleting off itunes and i dont find an option to delete it, how can I?
Here's what I did:
1. I synced my phone to iTunes and under the music tab, I selected sync only checked playlists. I made sure I had none of my playlists selected.
2. After syncing I ejected the phone, and checked my music app. There now was no music at all on my phone.
3. Synced it again to iTunes and synced music how I typically do. When it was finished, I checked for the unwanted song, and it was gone.
Maybe this will work for you as well. -
My old computer crashed and deleted my iTunes media file with all my playlist. However, my iPod has the playlist I lost on the computer. How can I replace (reverse synch?) my iPod media information back onto my (now reinstalled) virgin iTunes media folder?
Yes it's possible to sync music back from a iPod back into iTunes that (I assume) wasn't purchased on the iTunes Store.
Apple allows iTunes Store purchases on devices to be reversed back into iTunes, just not cd rips and stuff like that. For that it's a one way trip to the device from iTunes.
I likely can't suggest such software here, but if you visit iLounge you can ask what is the latest software that works for your platform.
Really it only takes a mere few minutes to backup your iTunes Library and stick in a few cd/dvd's or a external drive. iTunes even has a menu command for it to make it oh so simple. Please use it and backup all your data.
Hard drives fail, computers burn up, thieves steal, stuff gets forgotten. Plan for something happening because it will.
Good Luck -
I bought a new laptop and used Windows Easy Transfer cable and moved all files from one computer to another. I installed iTunes and found my iTunes music Library. However, when I plug in my iPod it says it is already synced with another iTunes Library.
I don't see anything in Help that shows when you already have transfered all the files over. Why would it want to erase and sync when I already have all the music folder copied over? I didn't have an issue when I had another technician copy from one laptop to another. Home sharing is also on but not being recognized.I suspect you only migrated the media folder instead of the complete working library. Either review the transfer process and copy over the entire iTunes folder from your old profile's music folder or see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

How do I delete an itunes music download?
Bring up your song list, find the song you want to delete. Swipe the song right to left, tap delete box.
songs with a cloud icon next to them are not actually on your phone. -
i had to get my laptop cleaned and all my itunes music and movies are gone how do i get them back?
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back. -
I just was wondering, Can I use my ipod touch as a airplay receiver to hook up to my stereo and play my itunes music from my computer?
I believe there's got to be a way you can use the ipod touch as a airplay receiver to use on the stereo.
The ipod touch has a port for plugging in earphones, that can also be used to plug a stereo into it.
Now somebody just has to make an app for using on ipod touch or iphone to plug directly into the stereos input
jack to play itunes music from your computer wirelessly, other than the ipod being plugged into the stereo with a wire. -
I have an iPhone 5s and in my iTunes music library have the songs checked that I want downloaded onto my phone. Instead of doing this, it is syncing all songs whether they are checked or not even tho I have the "sync only checked songs" box checked. So basically it's syncing all of the songs when I just want the checked ones on. This is very frustrating.
When your device is connected, check the tabs at the top ("Summary" "Apps" "Music," etc. Under the Music one, check to see if "Sync Music>entire music library" is checked. If it is, that may be why all the songs are syncing.

Delete multiple itunes music duplicates
my itunes music library has duplicates of almost every song. how can I clean this up in mass? one at a time is not an option
It depends upon your level of trust in automatically getting rid of duplicates. You can have duplicates that are not duplicates, which is when going through them one by one, looking at file and track details, is better. Automatic deleting can be fatal to your collection if your duplicates in fact point to the same file. Deleting one will get rid of the file and after you finish deleting the files your "originals" will show up with broken links. I also have a duplicate that is the artist having two tracks on the same album with an identical name, but they definitely are not the same (one is acoustic, the other heavy rock). iTunes tells me they are duplicates so if I blindly get rid of duplicates I will get rid of one of those tracks.
If this happened recently thrugh some action you can try viewing exact duplicates, sorting by date added, and delete every file added after a certain date. There's also various commercial and shareware duplicate finders which you can find through a web search.
You must be doing something wrong with iTunes to be generating that number of duplicates. I generate only one or two duplicates per year despite lots of file creation and deletion.
