Telnet directly into local zone failed

Hi,
After reboot the local zone, I can't telnet into it any more... Couldn't find any problem with it and do not know how to make it work. All I can do is zlogin into local zone from global. Can someone help me please? Thanks a bunch!

  • Using dtrace to tap into local-zone console output?

Was wondering if anyone has experimented with dtrace to capture zlogin console output for local zones. (all in the global ofcourse)
(I don't want to run zlogin and capture its output to a file, since that would interfere with normal "zlogin" operation.)
The idea would be to try and use dtrace to attach to some sort of centralized "zlogin construct/object" and then capure ALL zlogin console-output for ALL local zones, with dtrace, and then having that parsed out to log-files for each local zone.
Might sound a little far-fetched, but until a standard interface for zone-console logging is created, this may be the base we can do?
If you can think of alternatives, please share them.
    thanks,

  • How to mount NFS into a zone or how to use the same IP in every zone?

    Hi,
we are using a NFS server in a different subnet (= different network interface; nxge1) than our 'normal' network (= nxge0).
Now I want to mount serveral NFS directories into our zones.
First I thought the follwoing is possible:
In the global zone I just mount the filesystem into its place:
    mount 10.11.3.1:/vol/vol_nfs_zones/zoneNNN_mnt /zones/zoneNNN/root/mnt
When the zone is halted this mount works, but when I start the zone, I receive the error:
    # zoneadm -z zoneNNN boot
zoneadm: zone 'zoneNNN': These file-systems are mounted on subdirectories of /zones/zoneNNN/root:
    zoneadm: zone 'zoneNNN': /zones/zoneNNN/root/mnt
zoneadm: zone 'zoneNNN': call to zoneadmd failed
When zoneNNN is already running and I try to mount it, I receive
nfs mount: mount: /zones/zoneNNN/root/mnt: Device busy
So the question is: How do I mount something in the gloabl zone from a NFS server into a zone?
The only alternative I see is to make the interface nxge1 available in every zone and give each an own IP in our storage network... But sadly this isn't an alternative because we don't have so many free IPs in that net! (Or is there a trick to use the same IP in the global and non-global zones for only this interface??)
Does anyone have a solution for our problem? I cannot believe that SUN misses this!
Any hints are more than welcome!

Mounting it by NFS in the global zone and trying to add this by the "add fs" and "type=lofs"-option yields to an error, when installing the zone:
cannot verify fs /data: NFS mounted file-system.
A local file-system must be used.
zoneadm: zone zoneNNN failed to verifyOur storage network is not accessable from other nets. (And I think it is a very bad idea to route storage network traffic...)
So I think we def. have to increase our storage network. :-(

  • Sun Live Upgrade with local zones Solaris 10

I have M800 server running global root (/) fs on local disk and running 6 local zones on another local disk. I am running solaris 5.10 8/07.
I used live upgrade to patch the system and created new BE (lucreate). Both root fs are mirror as RAID-1.
When I ran lucreate, it copies all 6 local zones root fs to the global root fs and failed no enogh space.
What is the best procedure to use lu with local zones.
Note: I used lu with global zone only, and worked without any problem.
    regards,

I have been trying to use luupgrade for Solaris10 on Sparc, 05/09 -> 10/09.
lucreate is successful, but luactivate directs me to install 'the rest of the packages' in order to make the BE stable enough to activate. I try to find the packages indicated , but find only "virtual packages" which contain only pkgmap.
I installed upgrade 6 on a spare disk to make sure my u7 installation was not defective, but got similar results.
I got beyond luactivate on x86 a while ago, but had other snags which I left unattended.

  • NFS in local zone

    Hi,
Has anyone tried mount an NFS share into a zone?? I am unable to lofs or manually mount..
    root@NFS_SERVER # share -F nfs -o rw /stage
    root@LDOM1 # mount -F nfs -o rw NFS_SERVER:/stage /stage
Then try and mount /stage into the local zone - doesnt seem to work:
    root@LDOM1 # zoneadm -z localzone boot
cannot verify fs /stage: NFS mounted file-system.
A local file-system must be used.
zoneadm: zone localzone failed to verify
    root@LDOM1 #
    Thanks.

I'm not sure what you're trying to do. It sounds like you're trying to mount a NFS filesystem in the global zone and then reference it somehow via the zone configuration as though it was a local filesystem. If so, I can't comment on whether that will work or not because I've no experience with that approach. What I have done successfully is to mount NFS filesystems via /etc/vfstab or automount inside the zone. That works just fine and it is done using exactly the same procedures as you'd use to mount NFS filesystems in the global zone.

  • Error message: "Logging into the account failed because an error occurred."

    Hello,
We had an XServe G5 2.0 DP 5GB/80/2x250 running Mac OS X 10.3.9 Server with all updates as a main server for a school. The server provides Open Directory Master as well as File-Sharing (AFP and SMB) and e-mail services to about 30 teachers and 300 students. The user home directories reside on the server. A web server also runs on the machine. The students use a pool of laptops, which are configured with a local guest and admin account as well as access to the server-based home directories with Directory Access. The server had the OS running on the 80 GB hard drive and all data (Home directories, mail database, website, etc. were on the two mirrored 250 GB drives.) All was working well until...
A few weeks ago, one of the two 250 GB died. We decided to use the opportunity to upgrade the server and set it up with 3 x 750 GB, two drives running as a mirrored pair to hold OS AND Data, the other as a stand-by unit to help replace a failing drive.
We migrated the OS and all data from the previous drives without a problem. Since now, all data is residing on one pair of drives, we put the data from the old "Data" drive in a folder on the root level of the new HD pair. We wrote a script that launches at startup which creates the symlink in /Volumes/Data to link to /Data. We thought that with this, all would be well.
However: When any user tries to log into his account from any iBook (10.3.9 or 10.4.11) (wirelessly), he gets the message:
"Logging into the account failed because an error occurred. The home folder for the user account is located on an afp or smb server. contact your system administrator for help"
If the user logs in to the guest account on the iBook, then accesses his home directory via file-sharing, he can see (read/write) all his data. So, the data and privileges seem to be OK, as well as Open Directory working correctly. Mail and the web work well also, as does logging in to a user account from one of the PC's (wired).
Can anyone make any suggestions as to how to fix the situation? Currently, the users are using the guest accounts and accessing their data via filesharing, as well as using webmail for their e-mail, but this is a major nuisance.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Alain Chammas
A user trying to access his account from a PC (wired) has no problems.

A good number of folks are having problems with this same error message at login, and nobody seems to have found a fix.
I believe I have stumbled upon, if not a solution, at least part of the answer. If you're logged into a 10.4 workstation, open a Finder window and click the "Network" icon. The first time you do this, you'll only see "Library" and "Servers" icons, but if you let it sit for a moment, other folders will magically appear. One of these is "My Network" which is the critical part.
In Workgroup Manager, edit one of your users' home directory configuration. There's a URL piece, usually "afp://server.domain.com/Users" (which is what shows up in the window when you click on the "Home" tab for that user), and then there's a "Home" path that is usually something like "/Network/Servers/servername/Users/username". Trouble is, you've noticed that 10.4 doesn't put servers into the "Servers" path, but rather into the "My Network" path.
So, if you change that "Home" path to read "/Network/My Network/servername/Users/username", it should work--with one caveat. Apparently 10.4 doesn't create the "My Network" path on a given client until you actually browse the network on that client. If you haven't logged into a 10.4 workstation and browsed the network, the "My Network" path won't be there, and you'll still get the error. Login as a local user, browse the network (so that the "My Network" folder shows up), logout, and then login as an Open Directory user, and it should work.
I'm betting that 10.3, 10.4, and 10.5 all handle this issue differently, so if you're in a mixed-version situation, you may have to experiment to find a workable fix.
    Derndest thing I ever saw.

  • Can No Longer Drag JPG files From Finder Directly Into .fla Stage?

For the past six months I have been following a manual process to convert JPG files (exported from InDesign) into SWF files for display advertising assets.
Using pre-built FLA files as templates (configured with clicktags):
Open FLA templates (3 separate files for 3 IAB ad sizes)
Drag JPG from Finder directly into stage of FLA file, aligned to
Publish to output folder for renaming
Today, for no apparent reason, I can no longer drag anything into the stage of any FLA file.  Not just the pre-built templates.  Nothing will drag & drop into an FLA stage.
    What I have tried:
    Restarted Mac
    Reset Flash preferences
What I know I can still do:
Drag files from Finder into the Library, and drag into FLA stage from there
    "File > Import to Stage..."
This works but because of my naming convention it prompts to import them all each time because Flash sees the sequence
This is not another step I am willing to contend with for my manual workflow
Me and my creative team need to process hundreds of assets like this each week, so I'm very anxious to discover why functionality that was working, suddenly stopped.
    Running:
    MacBookPro Retina OS X 10.8.5
    Flash CS6 v. 12.0.2.529

just want to add my annoyance to the pile here. I can't see any logic behind removing the drag and drop function, especially when adding a new folder is now a multi-step process that is far from obvious. to start a new playlist with local folder content you now need to:enter settingsclick into advanced settings (basically all settings now seem to be "advanced"?)manually find and add the foldergo through the adventure of finding the files in your library.
-- because they may or may not be listed under "local files" - you won't know because Ctrl+F is also removed. so you have to remember/know what the album you added is called and search for that. if you have a mixed bag of file names from various albums, you're basically shafted; there's no way to find them all with a single search.then you can add them to playlisteta: but wait! there's more! if you have more than 15 files? you're **bleep** out of luck, because the search will only display the first 15 hits among your local files, and then show you spotify library tracks.I can't help but feel as though spotify is doing everything they can to stop us using spotify to listen to local files, as bugs that make it more or less impossible persist through multiple versions - and now features that seem to me to be basic functionality are being removed?mega minus points from someone who's been using spotify since 2008.

  • How to create raw partition in a local zone?

I tried to search for an answer for my question, but I spent a week and still no luck.
What I am trying to do is to create raw partitions for Sybase in a local zone. I tried to add device and set match to the block and raw device.
However, when I tried to do "format", I got core dumped. When I did zpool create, I got permission denied. Any advice?
    zonecfg:z001> info
    zonename: z001
    zonepath: /export/ZONE/z001
    autoboot: true
    pool:
    limitpriv:
    fs:
    dir: /shared/tmp
    special: /tmp
    raw not specified
    type: lofs
    options: []
    net:
    address: 10.110.1.2
    physical: e1000g1
    device
    match: /dev/rdsk/c6t60060160DF2413003E2F0C2DF945DC11d0
    device
    match: /dev/dsk/c6t60060160DF2413003E2F0C2DF945DC11d0

You can't manipulate pools directly in a non-global zone. I'm not sure if you can run 'format'. You can use at least a limited amount of globbing. You might want to put a '*' at the end of your matched device name.
You can hand off a raw partition via 'match' and put it under UFS control, or with recent versions of Solaris Express, you can delegate a portion of a ZFS filesystem to the zone.
    See the ZFS administration guide:
    http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/zfs/docs/zfsadmin.pdf
Especially the section on using ZFS in a zone (page 171). Note the guide is for the most recent version of ZFS in OpenSolaris. Versions available in Solaris 10 may not have all the same features.

  • How do you create a local zone that's not "stripped down"?

    Hi all,
I've been exploring Solaris 11 Express a bit more after work, and I can't figure out how to create a new local zone that doesn't have a minimized package set. The ISV guide mentions that new local zones default to "minimal system software":
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/systems-hardware-architecture/o10-015-s11-isv-adoption-198348.pdf (page 6)
...but that I can specify additional packages with the "-e" flag during the zone install. I don't want to list dozens of supplemental packages by hand... there must be a way to make a new local zone that has an almost identical package loadout as a standard global zone. (i.e. ftp, smtp, telnet services exist in the global zone, but are not installed in a local zone).
Do I need to use ips commands to first make an image (of a global zone) then update my local zones to that image?
    Thanks!
    Mike

Thanks Russell, this sounds exactly like what I was looking for! I'm "zoneadm install"'ing a new zone right now to kick the tires. One note for everyone else:
pkg install -r slim_installI got an error that "-r" isn't a valid flag for pkg, but it seems to be working without it (i.e. "pkg install slim_install")

  • How to dynamically set max-rss size for a local zone?

    Running solaris 10 05/08.
Following situation: Three local zones in a Veritas cluster. The zones
can fail over but normally not all three are on the same physical box.
I want to be able to restrict physical memory usage for the zones in
situations where certain combinations of them end up on the same
physical box. So, I need to be able to dynamically change memory
resources. I know how to do this with, for example locked memory:
    prctl -n zone.max-locked-memory -r -v <mem> `pgrep -z <zone name>
    init`
but i need to do this for physical memory and I can't see that there
is a zone resource for this? I thought this was added in 05/08?

    Hi
You can do this by using rcapd from the global zone
    - start rcapd from the global zone:
    svcadm enable svc:/system/rcap:default
    - set a physical memory caping value for each zone
    rcapadm -z your_zone -m max_rss_value
    - check the memory use for all the zone capped
    rcapstat -gz
You can set the rss capping value in the zone configuration:
    # zonecfg -z your_zone
    zonecfg:busi-app-prod> add capped-memory
    zonecfg:busi-app-prod:capped-memory> set physical=900m
    zonecfg:busi-app-prod:capped-memory> end
    zonecfg:busi-app-prod> verify
    zonecfg:busi-app-prod> commit
    zonecfg:busi-app-prod> exit
This will be take in account at the next reboot of this zone.
Have a also a look to rcapadm to tune rcapd
    Bye

  • How to load metadata directly into essbase 9.3 ?

    Hi all,
When I load metadata directly into essbase with IKM SQL to Hyperion Essbase (METADATA).
My metadata is already on Microsoft SQL 2000. After execute an interface that load metadata to essbase and check in the essbase outline , It seem that outline data could not retrieve correctly. And still have many rejected records.
    My question is :
Can I use the same rule file that used for load a metadata from text file?
Because in this case I use the same rule file that load metadata from text file.
Let me know if need more information on this.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
You can use the same rules file, make sure in the IKM options you have the same rules seperator as in your rules file.
You can also turn on error logging and logging in the IKM options so you should get more information to why the metaload is failing

  • Solaris 10, java, local zone and priority

    Hi,

How do I fix that, and how can I get jboss to run with a niceness of
    0 or 1 at startup?
I did manage to up the niceness manually from the global zone, but that's
not really an option once the system goes production. How/where do
I set java tasks to run with a sensible priority by default?
It appears that anything java (even within the global zone) runs on a
niceness of 20 (10 is what we see inside a local zone, the global will
    report 20 in prstat).
    Cheers

I removed this file,/usr/lib/libmlib/libmlib_sse.so.2, but I can't still use java desktop...
    is there any other solution?

  • Solaris 10, local zone & vcs

    Hi,
Anybody tried running vcs from within a solaris 10 sparse local zone?
We currently have two T2000' s each running Solaris 10 6/06. I've installed Veritas Foundation Suite 4.1 on each and configured vcs. The cluster is functioning with failover enabled & tested. (I have a test service group running consisting of a 'hello world' program sitting on a VRTS volume/diskgroup on a SAN). This is all running fine in the Global Zone.
As part of our requirement we want to be able to run vcs from within a local zone, hence my creation of a sparse zone. I would like full clustering functionality running from within a zone on one server with failover/switching to an equvialent zone on the the second server.
I have played with the 'zone' option when setting up service groups but not surprisingly this is for switching the whole zone. Not what I want to do.
Am I failing to grasp this whole sparse zone idea? or am I missing something obvious, trying something that cant be done? Any help, particularly from somebody else thats tried this would be appreciated.
    Thansk in advance,
    Mark

    Hello,
I can't help you a lot, but i have found that there is a lot of things that a local zone can't do when it comes to "kernel" things. As of today i found that you do NFS from a zone, for example.
As your problem seems to be related to filesystem it is probable that you can't do it from a zone. Again, i'm not sure.

  • Install SMC Server 3.6 in Sol 10 local zone?

    Dear all,
Is it possible to install and running SMC Server 3.6 in local zone with whole root (not sparse) steup?
    thanks

Is it possible to install and running SMC Server 3.6
in local zone with whole root (not sparse) steup?Right now the only part of SunMC that can run in a zone is the SunMC Agent. The Server can only be installed into the global zone. But it's a pretty good bet that you'll be able to do it with a future version of SunMC.
