  • Wireless latency/slow ping problems in Snow Leopard

After upgrading to Snow Leopard (SR MBP), I've experienced unusually high and unpredictable latency from the airport connection. The Ethernet connection works fine (consistent and short ping times to the wireless router), but the airport connection's ping times vary wildly. My computer is within a few feet of the router and a computer running 10.5.8 further away has no such difficulty. See example: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v404/amusiccale/Screenshot2009-09-05at101600AM .png
Running Ubuntu from a live CD, no such ping problem exists and the wireless connection works great, immediately out of the 'box': http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v404/amusiccale/Screenshot.png
Likewise, the problem does not appear from the Snow Leopard installation cd when I run network utility.
A different MBP (unibody) on Leopard does not have this problem with the same router (so it seems unlikely that the router is at fault), and I did not have this problem before my upgrading.
I have attempted deleting preference files for the wireless adapter without success. I have reinstalled snow leopard in place, making me wonder if the issue is the design/driver rather than an installation issue.
Programs I was able to use before in Leopard (such as Skype) that require a steady stream of information are now unusable.
How can I fix this issue?

  • Adobe Reader, Telnet Hyperlink Problem

Hi, I met a telnet Hyperlink Problem in Adobe Reader.
When click the Hyperlink (like telnet://a.b.c.d), Adobe reader gives me a Alert:
Acrobat does not allow connection to: telnet://a.b.c.d
And I also need to open this telnet hyperlink in web browser with Adobe reader plugin.
Would you please give me some help?

Acrobat and Adobe Reader recently closed off access to custom protocols. Telnet is a standard protocol, but I can't see Adobe leaving it working.

  • Telnet read problem -- Telnet read back

I am trying to use telnet to send TL1 command to my UUT and expect to read back measurement data.  I was able to read proper data once in a while but most of the time I read back the TL1 command that I sent.  I tried different read mode and timeout period but nothing seem to matter.  My vi was written in Labview 8.2.1 with Internet toolkit.  I read in the forum about some limitation of the telnet read problem of the vi from the internet toolkit,  Is there any better read driver around?
    Thanks,
    Patrick

Hey!  I have a few questions for you that should help us solve this problem.  First, have you tried out the telnet shipping example "Telnet Line Client.vi".  This will help us minimize programming errors, etc.  Also, what type of device are you trying to communicate with?  Are there other forms of communication available?  For example, does the device also have a serial port, GPIB Port, etc.?  Also, is it possible to write to the device using TCP/IP (This is what telnet is based on)?  Let me know the answers to these questions and I will be better equipped to help you out!!
    Thanks!

  • Ping problem

    Hi,
I have ping problem and can not figure out.
I have 4 switches, 2x 3550,2x2950. They are connected with each with 2 cables.
They all have a  intel vlan 1
    S1 172.16.1.3
    S2 172.16.1.4
    S3 172.16.1.103
    S4 172.16.1.104
I can ping all in any switch.
    I can ping 172.16.1.3 4 104 from windows CMD.
    But no 103.
All switch have no routing protocol, only vlan 1.
    I was using wireshark.
I can see the right mac address from ARP reply.
    But no ICMP reply.
    I don't understand why?
Please help me? Any idea? Advice?
    Thanks

  • Ping problems while gaming (E4200)

    Hello,
Due to my previous router not working anymore I was forced into buying a new one and came to the conclusion (after reading several reviews) that the E4200 was a good replacement.
If I'm correct, ever since I got the E4200 I got ping problems while playing online games (Call of Duty, Quake Live etc). My ping is stable mostly (around ~35) and then jumps to 80-100 ping with massive lagspikes for a few seconds. It's really annoying since it prevents to play games properly due to me not being able to hit properly (delay).
Router is on default settings and I've tried to update to the latest firmware for the E4200 which is 1.0.04 - Apparently after doing that my internet got really slow so I decided to downgrade to the first version (1.0.01) which is fine for me, except for the lagspikes.
I don't really know much about these kind of things but a friend of mine told me to ping my router (command prompt) and it showed one difference 't=13' instead of the standard '<1ms'. Also when pinging a different IP (8.8.8.8 Google) I got everything around 14-20 and one big difference which was something like '72'.
When connecting my modem cable (without router attached) no problems occured and everything was stable, so I'm pretty sure it's the E4200 itself.
Hopefully someone knows how to solve this problem (fixing the ping spikes that occur every ~2 minutes or something for a few seconds) otherwise I might be forced to buy a new router once again. Thanks in advance!

You mentioned in your post that you upgraded the firmware of the router. So after the firmware upgrade did you reset the router? After successful firmware upgrade you need to reset the Router. It is recommended to reset the router once. Steps to reset the router:
Push the reset button on router for 30 seconds, turn off the router wait for 30 seconds and then power it on. Power light should blink when you perform the reset process.
After reset, reconfigure the router and then do the following steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1400 or less (usually found on your router's main/ basic setup page). Here is the link for determining and setting up the correct MTU size: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=fbf8e8564632422eaa8ea80bf9dcba64_386.xml&pid=80&re...
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.

  • Got correct IP from nslookup but not right on telnet/ping.

    Guys,
Do you have any experience on Solairs 8?

    nameserver 144.132.81.10
    #grep hosts /etc/nsswitch.conf
    hosts: files dns
    Jeff.
    # cat /etc/vfstab

This is a question for a Solaris forum, rather than a Java forum, but your answer is, in your nsswitch.conf says files dns. This means that if you have the host in your hosts file, ping/telnet will use that host "definition". nslookup will use dns. So, check your hosts file.
And if you have made the mistake of making /etc/hosts an actual file, rather than a link to /etc/inet/hosts, then check both files. but then again, if you have done that, correct that problem by "merging" the two files, and making /etc/hosts a link /etc/inet/hosts again.

  • ASA 5505 VPN Ping Problems

    Hello everyone,
First off, I apologize if this is something that I can google. My knowledge of network administration is all self-taught so if there is a guide to follow that I've missed please point me in the right direction, its often hard to Google terms for troubleshooting when your jargon isn't up to snuff.
The chief issue is that when pinging internal devices while connected to the results are very inconsistent.
Pinging 192.168.15.102 with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 192.168.15.102: bytes=32 time=112ms TTL=128
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
We've set up a IPSec VPN connection to a remote Cisco ASA 5505. There are no issues connecting, connection seems constant, packets good etc. At this point I can only assume I have configuration issues but I've been looking at this for so long, and coupled with my inexperience configuring these settings I have no clue where to start. My initial thoughts are that the LAN devices I am pinging are not sending their response back or the ASA doesn't know how to route packets back?
Here's a dump of the configuration:

    Hi Graham,
My first question is do you have a site to site VPN or Remote access client VPN.
After checking your configuration i see that you do not have any Site to SIte VPN configuration so i am assuming that you ara facing issue with the VPN client.
And if i understood correctly you are able to connect the VPN client but you not able to access the internal resources properly.
I would recommend you to tey and make teh following changes.
    Remove the following configuration first:
    nat (inside) 0 access-list inside_nat0_outbound_1 outside
    nat (inside) 1 192.168.15.192 255.255.255.192
You do not need the 1st one and i do not understand the reason of the second one
Second one is your pool IP subnet (192.168.15.200-192.168.15.250) and i am not sure why you have added this NAT.
If possible change your Pool subnet all together because we do not recommend to use th POOL ip which is simlar to your local LAN.
Try the above changes and let me know in case if you have any issue.
    Thanks
    Jeet Kumar

Is the A2 train the current version recommended by Cisco? These devices load balance critical systems so we usually try and stay with Safe Harbor code were ever possible. In my deployment I require stability over features and in the past have stayed away from the "newest" code releases for fear of flaky or buggy behavior.
    Thanks

  • Latency/ping problems

    Hello!
This is the first major problem I've had with BT since joining them. The service has been much better than my last provider
Anyway, around mid-november I started to notice that my download speeds were a little erratic. I would usually download at about 800KB/s during off-peak times. I then started downloading anywhere between 100KB/s - 500KB/s. I waited until the end of the month, incase I had passed my monthly limit. Seems like that's not the problem.
Also, when I play online games, my ping is anywhere between 120ish - 400+. Before these problems, I was getting a ping of about 60 - 80 on this server. I'm getting severe latency which is causing online gaming to be pretty much impossible.
I'm on the unlimited package (Option 3, I believe), and I live in the county of Herefordshire, if that's any help.
Further note: We haven't moved the router. Everything is exactly as it was when there weren't any problems. It was a problem that arose suddenly sometime in mid-november. After reading the forums, I noticed a number of other people were having similar problems.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, because living in the middle of the countryside with very limited transportation, online gaming is what keeps me sane.
I'm fairly good with computers, but networking is my one weak spot. So if you have any advice, please make sure it is in idiot guide form
    Thanks for any help!
EDIT: When I do a speed test, my download speed is fine, which is odd. But when I do a ping test, it shows my ping as 350+

    Hi Nerdy-Thing,
    Welcome to the forum.
Can you please run a Traceroute to the games server you are trying to contact.  To do this click Start >>> run >>> type "cmd".  Then from the prompt type "tracert [destination]".
Perhaps you can run two traces, one to the game server and the second to another website, lets say bbc.co.uk or BT.com.
Please post these results and we can have a look to see where your speed is slowing down.
    Cheers

  • Ping problems between wired/wireless

I have 2 workstations connected to a wrt54g router setup as a gateway. This is a home network. bigserver and aclient both have fedora core 6 installed. bigserver is connected via a wire and aclient is using wireless. Both have internet access and can ping the router, 192.168.1.1. aclient can ping bigserver and ssh to it. bigserver cannot ping aclient and gets a host unreachable. I also have an xp laptop, using wireless that has internet access, that can ping the the router, bigserver but cannot ping aclient. None of the others can ping the laptop either. Is there some setting in the linksys that causes problems between systems that are wired and others that are using the wireless? Thanks for the help.

Hi… logon to router’s setup page, try changing wireless channel to 1 or 11, go to advanced wireless settings reduce beacon interval to 50, fragmentation and RTS threshold to 2304, change Transmission rate to 54 MBps…try disabling personal firewall on wireless computer, if you've installed any...check whether it makes any difference or not.
