Telstra Bigpond 4G Wireless Modem with Sierra Wireless Battery

I have a Telstra Bigpond 4G Wireless Modem, which is run with a Sierra Wireless Lithium Ion batterry Model W-3, product no. 5200008.I got this from Telstra back in about Ausgust 2013 and have only recently noticed that my battery gets very hot, it is swollen and the edges are coming away from the from the unit. i spoke to my local telstra shop and they said I would have to contact Sierra to get a replacement. Is this what I have to do?And if so can someone lead me to Sierra Wireless website or email or number cause I've done some searching and can't find what i'm looking for.Would Telstra (bigpond) be able to help me with a replacement?CheersVicki

I have read this post and must confess I have always found telstra to be fantastic suficiently so that we changed all our accounts across to telstra after a very long and loyal term with another provider.up untill we purchased the same wireless 4g unit as mentioned in this post we would have argued with anyone downing the tesltra service infact we have recomended amny many driends to our local Browns Plains Independant store (NOT THE TELSTRA SHOP STAFF At TTHE TELSTRA SHOP IN BROWNS PLAINS ARE THE RUDEST PEOPLE I HAVE EVER MET THEY CHASE CUSTOMERS AWAY WITH THEIR RUDENESS AND UNWILLINGNESS TO ASSITS INCLUDING THEIR MANAGER WHO I HAD THE MISFORTUNE TO DIRECT A COMPLAINT TO ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE, Telstra are lucy their is an independant resellar in the center)anyway the store the customer service on the phone all have been the best but I have the same problem battery over heating and swallowen luck I found it before it exploded it even popped the back off the unit.I went to my local independant unfortuanatly he didnt have a spare battery he susgested I try the Local Telestra Shop Or Battery world, not wanting to go near the local telstra shop I tried Battery World unfortuneatlly no luch they also advised i try the local Telstra Shop. How stupid am I what an un helpfull bunch of rude animals if I wanted to be treated like i had the plague I could have gone else where and should have they make you feel like you are some kind of criminal for having a problem or dareing to come in to their store how the generate any bussiness is beyond me, but like I fool I tried them no battery to replace my one no replacement units I could buy and no offer of a waranty repair. How ever I could go on another plan and get a different unit to the one I have I cant buy a replacement unit out right for cash because the sim card is locked to the unit but I can start another contract and just keep paying for my old one till its paid out.so I am looking for somewhere to buy a new battery , I have halved the services myself and my company have with telstra and out usuall Telstra accounts have dropped from about $2500 to $3000 dollars a month down to $700 per month while i wait for the contracts to end so the balance can be transfered to another service provider, and the plan with the $G wirless unit attached sits as it has for monthes now being paid for every month with zero useage.I had also tried the customer service line also with little luck and it appear that telstra and bigpond are to seperate idenities so dont ring the wrong one or you will be told in no uncertain terms what an idiot you are for not knowing they are seperate.so to all I say yes I am an Idiot for thinking that Telstra would give good service they are like fair weather friends will look after while you dont have a problem and are paying them without question but dont have a problem because they will dump you like a rat leaving a sinking ship i fanyone knows where i can buy a bettery i woeld be greateful otherise if i find a supply first i will post it herethank you to all for putting up with my rant but sooner all later we say enough is enough and I am not going to take it anymore. What happenned to good old customer service, I guess the electronic age did and face to face contact is no longer required so they can (like I am Now) hide behind their key boards and ignore you or treat you poorly,Please excuse my spelling mistakes I left my glasses in the car and am typing on blurry keys and screen.

  • Westell ProLine 6100 DSL modem with generic wireless router

I am planning to purchase the Starter Verizon high speed internet plan.  It comes with a free Westell ProLine 6100/6110 DSL modem.  The combined modem and wireless router is $55.  I have a wireless router (Linksys and Cisco).  Can I use the Linksys or Cisco wireless router with the Westell ProLine DSL modem, or will I have compatibility problems?  Thanks.

To use that modem with a router, I point to:

    Otherwise, you will...
#1 NOT be able to go anywhere online because of Double NAT.
#2 Or if you can go some where online then..
..For example: If you want to allow users from the net to connect to your computer, you can't just portforward in your generic wireless router. You must also portforward in the Westell 6100. (Called Double NAT Forwarding)
Points to: portforward.com -> Other Guides -> Port Forwarding Behind Two Routers?

I will leave this up to you on what you want to do. Good luck.

  • I have a WRT54G Wireless modem with firmware version 1.02...

I have a WRT54G Wireless modem with firmware version 1.02.1 Mar 4 2003. i down loaded the latest firmware for the modem but i can't install it. I get the erroe message"incorrect image file".
    What is wrong?

Which version of the WRT54G do you have?  If it is not clearly stated on the router, go to Wikipedia.org and search for WRT54G, then you can use your router's serial number to determine which version of the router you own.
The version of the router is important.  Each version has a different set of hardware in it, so each version takes a different firmware.
You can only load the firmware that corresponds to your model and version.

  • Extend Wireless Network using a Telstra technicolor Gateway wireless Router to Airpot extreme but Airport will only except join not extend and I can not get a network on the Airpor Extreme ethernet ports but can ping Airport extreme from Technicolor Rout/

Extend Wireless Network using a Telstra technicolor Gateway wireless Router to Airpot extreme but Airport will only except "join a wireless network (which it does) not "extend a wireless network" (Led turns yellow and I can not get a network working on the Airpor Extreme ethernet ports but can ping Airport extreme from Technicolor Router.
    Airport gets it address DHCP.

Funny how I can ping the Extreme but the Hard Ethernet ports dont seem to work correctly.
When the AirPort Extreme is configured to "Join" a wireless network, the Ethernet ports are not enabled.
Oddly, the AirPort Express has a special feature that will allow it to to "Join" virtually any wireless network.....and the Ethernet port can be enabled. So, an Express would work for your purpose to provide an Ethernet connection to the media player. This assumes that the Express is located where it can receive a strong wireless signal from your main router.
Note that the Express will not provide any additional wireless coverage when it "Joins".

  • Modem with mac & PC

I am trying to share a cable modem with someone who has a PC. My sister doesn't have wireless internet, she uses a cable modem and a CAT5 cable. When I separate the CAT5 from her computer and try to plug in mine, I am unable to connect to the internet.
I'm able to plug her computer back in and get right on the internet, so I know it is not a 'power cycling' issue with the modem itself. And we've tried plugging in a friend's macbook and had the same results.
Is there any way around this problem? Of course I can just get online using my sister's computer, but there are times when it would just be faster to use my own.
    TIA.

    HI, Chaplin
this can have different reasons. The most likely is the following:
when connecting, the provider hands out an ip address through the modem to the computer. This address usually stays valid during connection time, and for a given time after disconnection (typically orders of a few hours). Thus, when disconnecting the pc, one cannot immediately connect any other computer for this amount of time. Only after the time-out period it should be possible.
using an airport express or similar thing allows you to connect more than one computer simultaneously. i think this might also be possible with other (non-wireless) devices, but i have no experience with this.
    Hope this helps
    Thomas

  • Is it reasonable to replace Qwest Pk5000 modem with "Time Capsule" to serve as my modem/local Wifi/backup device?

I am both new and old.  That is, I am an old guy who is relatively new to Mac and to forums.  I could use some advice, please.  I believe I want to buy Apple's "Time Capsule" (TC) to back up my 1 week old MacBook Pro and my old Win 7 Laptop.  Currently I have Qwest as my provider.  They have installed their ActionTek PK5000 modem.
Question, can I, or better yet, should I replace their modem with TC?  I plan to use a wireless network for my home (iPad, wireless printer) and my kids when they come to visit.  I believe Qwest won't support TC ... understood, but would it work? and would it be the smart thing to do?  If so, would TC need to configured manually or would air port utitlity handle the details?  Thanks for any advice. -- tom

That's possible, but a bit tricky.  Apple's Time Machine software will back up your Mac to the TC, but you'll have to find a Windows app to back up the laptop.  I don't do Windoze, but understand the WinClone app may work for that.
Further, mixing Time Machine backups on a TC's internal HD causes some conflicts.  See #Q3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule for an explanation and some possible workarounds.
Question, can I, or better yet, should I replace their modem with TC?
No.  The Time Capsule is a wireless router with a hard drive.  It does not contain a modem.
Usually, you plug the TC into the modem.  The TC then provides the network.
But that modem is also a router (ie, provides a network), so you'll need to either turn its router function off, or configure the TC to join the existing network.
If so, would TC need to configured manually or would air port utitlity handle the details?
Either way, you use Airport Utility to configure the TC.

  • Ibook wifi with usb modem with adsl router

how could you connect the ibook so that it's wireless to the phone line. I'm gonna have to buy all the parts but what's the easiest way to do this ?

To give the iBook G4 wireless the ability to connect to a wireless network, you simply need to install an AirPort Extreme card. The last iBook G4s had wireless built-in.
If you have a ADSL modem without an Ethernet output you will need to replace that modem with a modem that does have an Ethernet output. Then you can buy any inexpensive 802.11b/g compliant wireless router to provide a wireless network for your iBook.

  • WRT54GS slamming Cable modem with Packets

I'm having trouble with my WRT54GS locking up my Cable Modem. TWC says its slamming the cable modem with too many packets. Is there any way to check this on my end? Full story below.
A little about my set up. I have Time Warner Cable business class Roadrunner service. 5 Static IPs. 4 being used at the moment. The Cable modem has a 4 port switch built in. Port 1 has a month or so old WRT54GS router v7 latest firmware (Gateway mode, Channel 6). Port 2 goes to my Sonicwall Barracuda them my internal network which also has WRT54GS router v7 latest firmware (Router mode, Channel 1). Both routers are sitting next to each other. Ports 3 & 4 have a Vonage Router hooked to each of them.
I started having trouble April 5 with the Internet being down that morning, then that night and falling morning. I power cycled the Cable modem to restore service. Called Time Warner Cable after the third reset. They told me that didn't see anything wrong from their end and I should call them when it is down. I did this and they said they would send someone out the next morning Friday. They came out on Friday morning and Checked cable which the tech said was fine so he replaced the Cable modem around 11:30. Fifteen minutes after he left the internet went down. I called TWC again. They did diagnostics on the cable modem from their end and saw that whatever was hooked up to port 1 was sent out 400 packets/sec. I think they said the cable modem could only handle 300. Port 1 is connect a WRT54GS v7 (latest firmware). We are using it for our Blackberries from Cincinnati Bell for WIFI and UMA service (like T-Mobiles @Home service) for VoWiFi. I turned off all the phones but the router was still slamming the modem with packets. I turned off the WiFi just in case someone hacked our WPA2 key. Still slamming the router with packets with only my laptop hardwired to it for setting up the router. I turned off the router and the modem wasn't getting hammered anymore. Port 2 which is my internal network was only up to 150 after open a lot of TV shows. Ports 3 & 4 nothing. I disconnected the WRT54GS hooked to Port 1.
15 minutes after I got off the phone with TWC internet goes down. They send out a tech on Saturday to check the line again. he sees a slight problem on the line but it should not be causing a problem which the first guy might have thought. But since I am having trouble he goes outside and checks the connections. He finds loose connection and a bad line cap (blocking cable TV). He fixes the connections and replaced the line cap. He comes back inside and rechecks the line. Everything is great no more fluxation of signal or packet loss. I hook the WRT54GS back but it still takes down the modem. So I figure that it's just bad. So I take the WRT54GS from my internal network and set it up to match the one for the Blackberries it's replace. I install a WAP54G on the internal network in it's place. I can't get my Blackberry to get a UMA connection and doing Google searched find this page
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_Router_Tips
I set up my router and Assess point with the setting from the above except the channel setting leaving them on channel 6 & 1 so they don't interfere with each other. Set: Fragment Threshold : 2304 (256-2346), RTS Threshold : 2304 (0-2347) and Beacon Interval : 50 (20-1024 ms). I also Enable WMM QOS. My phone connects and internet seems to be staying up Saturday Evening. I come to work Sunday afternoon and Internet is still up. I check my phone I have UMA signal and everything is right with the world. 20 minutes later internet goes down. I unplug the WRT54GS and power cycle the cable modem. I am now waiting to see it the internet will stay up without any WRT54GS hooked up.
I have not had a problem before and both Linksys are not even 6 months old. I have read review were people have had trouble with the WRT54GS. Were some people have no trouble will other all kinds of trouble.

As you said cable connected to the pc is working fine!!...connect modem to the router WRT54GS...reset the router once (30 secs) in such a way that Power light on the router is blinking...power cycle complete network i.e., unplug modem & router power cable for 30 secs...plug in modem power cable once lights are solid green plug in the power cable to the router...its important that after upgrading firmware resetting the router is important...so try this & it should deifnately work.Do the wireless & advanced wireless settings as router is currently in default settings.
Also, you want to connect your access point WAP54G to the router & open the setup page of WAP54G using 192.168.1.245 do the wireless settings & try connecting to the wireless router & then check....should work.

  • Telstra Update to my Modem has deleted Static ARP table

The latest automatic update to my Telstra Technicolor modem has caused my Static ARP table to be deleted. Furthermore, the update seems to have removed the ability to TELNET into the modem via command line, so I simply cannot re-create the static ARP table. I had previously mapped my home server's IP address to its MAC address through a static ARP entry. Doing so allowed me to remotely wake up my server when outside of my home network (Wake-On-LAN). Because of the aforementioned update to the modem, having deleted the static ARP table and removed my ability to log-in to it via Telnet - I can no longer remotely wake up my server. Pretty annoyed with Telstra right now. Waking my server from outside my home was something I would do almost daily in support of my business (details irrelevant).

Thanks. That is my back-up plan. I was hoping to avoid making an unnecessary purchase, plus the annoyance of then setting-up up my new modem with all my specific network configuration. Like I said, yesterday all was fine. Today, thanks to Telstra's update, I don't have the functionality I had previously and I am now facing the reality of having to fork out my hard-earned money to overcome this Telstra-initiated limitation.

  • How do I use a Netgear CM400 cable modem with my Time Capsule router?

I switched out my TWC modem for one I bought. I called and activated a CM400 Netgear modem with time Warner cable. They said it is activated and responding. My time capsule is on a green solid light but i can't connect to the Internet! Why??

Your previous setup may have been a modem router and the TC is connected in the wrong mode.. it should be dhcp and nat with a pure cable modem.. is it?
You also might need to put the TC into the correct mode.. then power off the modem for about 15min.. (try 5min first).. power up the modem.. wait 5min and then power up the TC .. it should grab the public IP and route that to the network.. reboot all the clients so they get fresh connection and see if that works.
If not give us a few screenshots from the airport utility of how the TC is setup.

  • Xfintity router/modem with Airport extreme moderate/strict nat?

I switched to comcast xfinity and they gave me a modem with a router built in and we are trying to use the Airport Extreme to get better signal using Bridge Mode in Airport Utility. It all worked fine but then on my PS3 and Xbox 360 it says that I have a moderate/strict nat type any help on how to get a open nat?

Suggest that you double check to make sure that the AirPort Extreme is setup in Bridge Mode.
Open AirPort Utility - click Manual Setup
    Click the Internet icon
    Settings should look like this:
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
    Update to save any changes
When the AirPort Extreme is in Bridge Mode, DHCP and NAT are turned off.
These services are being provided by the Comcast gateway, so any NAT issues rest with the Comcast gateway. You may need to call Comcast support to ask them about changing the NAT settings on the device.
