  • Search Help attached to Data Element Question

    Hello! Hopefully this is a simple question to answer. I have looked online but cannot find exactly what I need.
    We currently have a search help attached to a data element. The search help is a custom search help. It does work so when you are in the screen it will show you options to pick from for that field. However, the field also allows for free-form text so the user can type in whatever and the screen will take it.
    Is there a way through the data element or search help to make it so the user is restricted to only what is in the search help and cannot just enter whatever?
    Thanks!!

    For restricting values You can use the at selection screen event  on that field.
    The search help field values will be there in a table .
    So what ever values are there in the table for that particular field , only those values will come in F4 also ..
    If it not maintained then issue an appropriate error message.
    at-selection screen on p_field.
    selct single  field from table into v_value.
    if sy-subrc <> 0.
    message ""Error message.
    Endif.

  • OBIEE  Apps data element question?

    Please any body explain me, how we can find the right data is coming from the source.
    Through Informatica in the OBIEE Apps
    Thanks in Advance
    Praveen

    You can install the "data lineage" option, but it needs a lot of effort.
    In Informatica, there are system table that gives you information about metadata, so you can find the "link" between a target table/column and source(s) table/column(s).
    Then, in OBIEE, you can do the same for the link between presentation column and physical column.
    Since physical column in OBIEE are your target column in Informatica, you can do the link between everything.
    You have to put that into one big (more more) table, integrate that into OBIEE and create report that, for a presentation table/column, will give you the source table/column. If you work with the catalog manager, you can even do the same with the web catalog.
    But Oracle has already simplified the job by giving you RPD and documentation about that.
    The first thing to do is to search for "data lineage" in BI Apps. Ask your Oracle contact for more information, they're aware about that because it's a frequent need in BI projects.

  • How to make BI Info obj Data element in-herit source DE documntn?

    Say I am in ECC. I go to SE11, give table name MARA and then doubleclick on the dataelement 'MATNR'. Then I click on documentation. I get a popup with Short text " Material Number" and Definition "Alphanumeric key uniquely identifying the material'.
    I am interested in the latter information that is 'Definition' - & in general whatever documentation comes up for data element in ECC.CRM.SCM,SRM.
    Now I log into SAP BI. I find that under characteristic 0Material, the data element is /BI0/oimaterial. When I double-click this datamaterial and press the documentation button, the system says 'No documentation'.
    My Questions:
    1. IS there a switch we could turn on in source ECC/SRM/CRM/SRM so that the data element in SAP BI inherits the original source field data element documentation.
    { I am not too convinced of the argument- that in BI we have info objects in ECC we have fields - since I am talking of data element level information- I would tend to think of this as an oversight of the designers or de-prioritization !!}.
    2. Could we have an ABAP workaround? That is, in BI we identify the tables that house the mapping between the source and destination data elementsa and take out this information. Then we extract the dataelement documentation by function DOCU_GET (from eCC) and use the mapping info above to link SAP BI data element with source data element documentation.
    WHY do I want to punish myself as above? My use case is, we take out SAP BI Table, field, metadata etc and create a model in a modeling tool and physical implementation in a 3rd party DW database as our own canonical, application-agnostic corporate datawarehouse. I would want the source data element documentation to flow to this last system as well as the modeling tool.

    That is, in BI we identify the tables that house the mapping between the source and destination data elementsa and take out this information. Then we extract the dataelement documentation by function DOCU_GET (from eCC) and use the mapping info above to link SAP BI data element with source data element documentation.
    1) SAP don't supply this, I would imagine, because R/3 isn't the only possible source of data.  I'm currently working on an app that extracts from R/3, an Oracle database and APO.  From whence should I take the documentation for my MATERIAL info object?  While being able to transfer the documentation of data elements might be very useful for your app, I can't see that generally it would be of interest to clients - I've certainly never heard of such a requirement.  So, my opinion at least, it isn't a design flaw.
    2) As you've pointed out, you can get the tables that do the mapping, so you know the source data elements, so you can get the documentation.  I'm not sure of how to store the documentation, but the obvious candidate for a link between infoobject and dataelement would be master data of an own infoobject.  You could wrap DOCU_GET in an RFC (if it isn't RFC enabled), and do a direct call between your 3rd party app and r/3 to get the documentation.  For information about the mapping tables, I'd suggest asking that question specifically in one of the BI forums.

  • How to make use of adjacent data elements within the same buffer

    Hi,
             Does anyone know how to make use of adjacent data elements within the same buffer? To make my question clearly, I would like to give you an example. In my application, I set "sample to read" as 10 which means at each loop 10 data samples will be taken into a buffer. Now, what I would like to do is to do some calculations on adjacent data samples in same buffer. I tried to use "shift register" for this, but it seemed to me that it only can deal with the calculation between data from adjacent loops. In other words, it skips 9 data elements and take the 10th one for the calculation.
             Here I also attach my VI showing what I did.
        Thank you very much in advance,
                            Suksun

    Hi Suksun,
          I hope you'll forgive me for distilling your code - mainly to understand it better.  I tried to duplicate your logic exactly - which required reversing the "derivatives"-array before concatination with the current samples array.  As in your code, the last velocity is being paired with the first position.  If first velocity is really supposed to be paired with first position, just remove the "Reverse 1D Array" node.
    cheers

  • How to deal with the change of data element?

    Hi, experts
    My trouble's background is:
    A CBO table(ZIEBTCIITM) saves invoice items .
    There are three fields relevant to quantity in it.
    And they have the corresponding data elements with the same type QUAN,13 characters and 3 decimals.
    Now because the quantity is so small,for example 0.00004,that the 3 decimal digit is not suitable.
    I want to change the CBO table to adapt my business,so the quantity fields' decimal should be expanded firstly,and there are transction data in the CBO table.
    My question is :
    1) Is it necessary to backup the CBO table before data element change?
    2) What should I do is Only to expand the data elements' decimals?
    Anyone can give me suggestion?

    Hello Mic
    To be on the save side I would suggest to export the table entries to Excel and create a transport request containing the original table and its entries:
    R3TR TABL ZIEBTCIITM
    R3TR TABU ZIEBTCIITM *
    Next you should create your own data element (or search for a suitable standard data element), e.g. ZQUAN13_5 (13 digits, 5 decimals).
    Replace the data element of the DB fields with your new data element and activate the DB table.
    I expect that nothing will happen to the entries in the DB table except that your quantity fields should have 5 decimals now.

  • Field names for data element are not displayed in selection box

    Hallo zusammen,
    Woran kanndas liegen?
    Danke!
    Edited by: Matt on Feb 9, 2010 1:41 PM - translated subject

    I created data elements and use them in a db table. I've added this data elements as parameters of a selection screen in a function group top include but when I test my function module with this selection screen I see only the field names and not my field captions of my data elements.
    While editing report choose Goto->Text elements->Selection Texts-> select Dictionary checkebox next to your parameters ->activate. The caption will be used then.
    And another question: I have defined and activated a search helper which I can call in my selection screen with F4 but I don't see the symbol behind the text-field. What is the reason?
    Refer standard program DEMO_DYNPRO_F4_HELP_DICTIONARY to see various techniques of attaching input help to screen field, together with search help

  • How to use '*' as data Element in the NTE(Edi 850) Segment

    Hi All,
    I am facing a field level error while using '*' in EDI 850 (NTE segment). '*' is also used as Data Element.
    For Eg: NTE*GEN*My Text *goes here
    Here, NTE02 should be My Text *goes here. So, how can I use "*" here without changing anything in the EDI message?
    I have asked this question before
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/1668e8d8-ee99-4d79-961b-8d26f3a496f8/error-while-using-in-the-nte-edi-850-segment-where-is-also-used-as-data-element?forum=biztalkediandas2
    The answer in the above forum was to ask client modify the EDI message.
    Previously, our client was using a different technology (other than BizTalk) which was working fine with this format. So, they are insisting on this format only.
    Thanks,

    Sorry, the answer is the same.
    It doesn't matter what EDI platform either side is using, the '*' in the field content conflicts with the '*' that is the element delimiter. That is invalid EDI, there is no way around that short of writing a custom EDI parser.
    It's not clear if you're sending or receiving this message.  But again, it's really doesn't matter.
    1. Change the Element Delimiter to something other than '*'.  < or > are not uncommon.
    2. If you are receiving the EDI, create a custom Pipeline Component that "handles" NTE02 either by replacing the '*' with a substitute char or deleting it.
    3. If you are receiving, you could add extra elements to NTE to accommodate extra fields (since that's how the parser will see them).  Then you can join them again in a Map.

    Hi:
    Background: I have a Vendor sending us EDI

  • Activate Change Document Check box in Data Element "J_CHGKZ"

    Hi experts,
    Our developer want to activate the change document for the data element "J_CHGKZ". The access key has been applied. We have tried to activate the change document check box in SE11, but the change box is disabled even in change mode. Has anyone come across this before and does anyone have a solution to this?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    SAP does not allow to use change management for date, time fields. Thats the reason for not allowing change to BDTER field.
    Hope that answers your question.

  • Convert in right data element

    hi all
    i have import materialnumber from a textfile, now i want to convert this materialnumber from string in matnr type. For this, i need a class or functionmodul...
    Thx abap_begin....

    Sigh, this really is a basic question that should have been answered plenty of times. However, I feel obliged to comment, because I don't like wrong answers (because if people actually do search, they will pick up wrong suggestions)...
    SAP uses so called [conversion exits|http://help.sap.com/abapdocu_70/en/ABENCONVERSION_EXITS.htm] for converting values for certain domains. E.g. for the data element MATNR, which you can find in the data dictionary (transaction SE11), you'll see that a domain with the same name MATNR is used. If you drill down into the domain, you'll find a field labeled conversion routine and there you see MATN1. This means that input data is converted to internal format via CONVERSION_EXIT_MATN1_INPUT and the internal format is converted to external format via CONVERSION_EXIT_MATN1_OUTPUT. In your specific case you'll have to use the first function, if you have an external material number that needs to be converted to the format how it's used internally on the database.
    That much for the do's, now to the don'ts:
    <ul style="list-style:square!important;">
    <li>Don't use CONVERSION_EXIT_ALPHA_INPUT, because this is simply incorrect. Depending on your customizing for material numbers it might lead to wrong results as it's simply not the right conversion routine (as you can see clearly in the data dictionary). There is for example a customer exit for material number input, which would not be applied at all if you use this wrong function module.</li>
    <li>Don't assume that conversions are always automatically applied. I.e. if I have a variable of type STRING and MOVE the contents to another variable of type MATNR, the contents will simply be copied one-to-one (with possible truncation though, since material number has maximal 18 characters). The statement that the conversion exits are automatically applied when you use the right datatype is true if we talk about screen fields where users enter data.</li>
    </ul>
    Cheers, harald

  • Working with Spry Data Elements

    As I understand it, I have to format elements such as dates,
    currency, etc. myself. Can someone can tell me how to manipulate
    the data elements in Spry (JS/DOM/?). I don't (necessarily) need
    date and currency examples, just something simple to get me
    started.
    For instance, I would like to alter the way {currency} and
    {date} appear below:
    <tr spry:repeat="dsList">
    <td>{currency}</td>
    <td>{date}</td>
    </tr>
    Currently, this is pretty ugly...
    <tr spry:repeat="dsList">
    <td>2006-10-02 10:18:35.983</td>
    <td>16500000.0000</td>
    </tr>
    Any JS example will help me... for instance, the code adding
    one (+1) to the currency value would get me through this;)
    Not vital to this question, but this is a cfquery that's
    using Raymond Camden's toXML component (which rocks) to convert my
    queries to XML variables for Spry.
    many thanks...

    Nevermind... I figured it out.
    I simply added the following code in between the query object
    and the conversion to xml:
    <cfif len(myQuery.date)>
    <cfoutput query="myQuery">
    <cfset query.date=DateFormat(query.date,"mm/dd/yyyy")/>
    </cfoutput>
    </cfif>
    Raymond's toXML

    Maybe it'll help someone else ;)

  • Need new description for Data Element based on Company Code.

    Hi,
    Requirement: The data element AUFNR which has the description "Order Number" needs to have description as "Engagement Number" for a specific company code. All other company codes to retain the description "Order Number".
    Example: There are three company codes: AAAA, BBBB and CCCC. The company code CCCC wants the description of data element: AUFNR as "Engagement Number" while AAAA and BBBB wants to retain the standard description: "Order Number".
    Pre-Work: Before posting this question, i did search however have not found a solution for this.
    In SAP i tried to create an Implicit Enhancement at:
    Program: RADBTDDF
    Sub Routine: SE_DD04T_ROLLNAME_ROLLNAME
    However, as the program is SAP Basis program, i was not successful.
    Any hints are appreciated and solution is rewarded.
    Thanks for your time.
    With Regards,
    Goutham.

    Dear Matthew,
    Thank you for the reply.
    I am giving some more details into the requirement.
    If a user assigned to company code: CCCC (may not be directly, relationship will be drawn) has logged into the SAP system. If he opens the transaction related to Internal Order, like KO01, KO02, KO03 etc. He should be able to see the description of field: "Order Type" as "Engagement Type".
    Similarly in the next screen the field "Order" needs to be displayed as "Engagement Number".
    However, for users who belong to company codes: AAAA and BBBB the SAP Standard Descriptions will be shown.
    Please let me know if this is possible or any inputs in that direction are highly appreciated.
    Let me know if further details are required.
    Best Regards,
    Goutham.
    P.S: As far as i know, Anees Jawad proposal would work if it is required to change the description at the system level.

  • How to create Data Element TPLNR

    Hello
    I want to use TPLNR to create data element in Operating Concern but I am not able to because of length of TPLNR (30) in Operating Concern we can create data element only upto 18 char. If i want to create new data element YTPLNR.
    I did following steps
    1. SE11
    2. Data Element
    3. and settings of particular data element what ever is required.
    My question is how can I use YTPLNR as characteristic as same value of TPLNR. I want all data that is available in TPLNR. I am creating new element because of data length issue.
    Table: IFLOT has data element TPLNR. I want all information of TPLNR in YTPLNR how it is possible to use that info in that.
    I tried to create user defined characteristics for operating concern
    i want to use with reference to existing value option in user define
    How can I do that
    thank you

    Hi,
    just a small addition for the Binary Search: The table must be sorted by the field(s) you are looking for:
    Symbolic code:
    read table <itab> with key <field> = <value> binary search.
    will take a record in the middle of the internal table first. If <field> < <value> the next try will be in the middle of the first half and the same procedure is repeated until the searched record is found or not found.
    If the table is not sorted correctly, you will probably miss the matching records.
    The fastest way is to use HASHED tables with unique key. The binary search will take more time when the table grows; hashed table access is (nearly) stable.
    Regards,
    Clemens
