Tempature questions on SLI MSI NX8800GT 512M OC

Have two MSI NX8800GT 512M OC , running SLI on a P7N Diamond mobo.  Using HWmonitor108 to manage tempeture settings of the GPUs.  1 GPU runs at 44c and the other 54c at idle.
During gaming, one gets to 60c and the other gets to 77c.  I have a Lian Li v1000 case, all case fans work.....any suggestions why the temp difference?
Also, after playing COD4, Vista(64) notifies that one of my display drivers had stopped, but has been successfully restarted.  Anyone knows what that is about?
Any help would be appreciated.

Just built the system two days ago and been using the HWMonitor since day one to monitor temps.  I have both cards in the PCI-E "blue" slots on the P7N with the soundcard in the middle.  Took off the plastic picture on both heatsinks on the 8800GT cards.....

  • The Care and feeding for a new NX8800GT 512M OC

Hi, this is my first post here,
I'm going to be upgrading from a Diamond Viper ATI Radeon X1950PRO PCI Express 512MB, to a MSI NX8800GT 512M OC with the MSI Unique Quad Copper Pipe Cooling Technology heatsink and fan.
I've read the stickys, very helpful. But is there anything else I should know, software I should use, things to look out for.
    Thank you.

I would get the drivers from nVidia's website rather than use the ones on the CD. The ones on the CD will be older than the newer ones from nVidia itself. Also, uninstall the ATI CC and drivers before installing the nVidia card.
Per Frankenputers advice, also download and install driver sweeper, Go into safe mode and use driver sweeper to remove what Frankenputer adviced.

  • NX8800GT 512m OC v117 possible DOA?

    New system:
    ASUS M2N SLI deluxe
    AMD Athlon X2 5000
    Antec TruePower 2.0 550 (used)
    NX8800GT 512m OC v117
    Kingston KVR800D2N5K2 2x1gig
POST (AWARD bios)when booting is 1 long + 3 short which is "No video card or bad video RAM - Reseat or replace the video card". No display on the monitor. Have removed ALL peripherals and get same code. All fans operational EXCEPT the one on the 8800GT. Tried reseating the card several times, same result. Removed the 8800GT and tried rebooting with no video card -> same 1 long + 3 short (M2N-SLI has no onboard video). Can get a different POST only by removing both memory sticks.
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for the quick reply.
I have a 4 wire connector from the psu to "atx12v" on the mb. Is that the vga? I also have a 6 wire connector from the psu labeled pci-e that's not connected to anything. Is that the problem?

    Did you hear any beeps?
Make sure that VGA is sitting very well into PCI-E slot.
Have you done >>Clear CMOS Guide<< yet?
No i didnt but i dont have a speaker attached. i got a little lcd thats shows the boot sequence. when i try to start it with my card it it keeps saying: Initalising CPU. so i doesn't even start up with the card attached. when i disconnect the card the boot sequence goes normal. also i reseated the card many times and i tried different pci-e slots on my motherboard. nothing helps. i hope we can figure it out.. im afraid just broken somehow..although i wouldn't know what happend.
Also ive tried clearing the bios.. i tried everything i can think off.

  • MSI NX8800GTS-T2D512E-OC 675 clock and not 730

    Hello,
I've buy an nvidia MSI NX8800GTS-T2D512E-OC.
MSI live bios update tell me that there is no update available. It's 62.92.25.00.04.
with gpuz or rivatuner i see 678/1728/972 and not 730/1825/1944
I'm lost, why two bios edition with two frequency edition ?
see here there is two bios with two different clock settings:
    http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/5730/MSI.8800GTS.512.080104.html
    http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/6673/MSI.8800GTS.512.080104_1.html
My second question concern Fan speed that is always at 37-38% and with this my gpu become hot. I use riva tuner to put fan speed to 50%.
is there a bios with auto fan speed increase more than 37-38% ?
    thanks

    first point;
Unfortunately there are 2 versions of this VGA card so you will get either the 730 or the 678 version
You could flash your card with the 730 bios with the program called Nvflash, but that is risky
I wished MSI would make a bios installer file to give you the option to flash it to 730Mhz again, but Nvidia has forbit the manufacturers to sell overclocked 8800 GTS 512mb cards since some time.
    second point;
Regarding your fan speed, you could run the ATI Tool "scan for artifacts" test and GPU-Z to show your fan speed because the fan should spin up to 43-45% when it's getting hotter than 80-85c.

well ok guys though im guessing this is not much of a surprise, the powertek lasted 8 whole days! now admittedly the 3870 toxic edition draws a fair amount of power requires 30A on the 12V rail, it should be well within the specs of the PSU as they were listed. it wasnt. its a POS and newegg is refunding my money which is being put towards an antec tq850. i decided im upgrading my mobo to the k9a2 platinum and getting a second 3870, and saying f*** it and getting my phenom 9850. why b/c i friggin can  besides i will then use what i will be trading out to build a rig for my best friend who i owe some money to and who wants a gaming rig rather badly. so bottom line is F**K powertek stick with quality. i know better than to not listen to my own advice and spend the extra money but i went against my own advice and now im out my gaming for a bit, but at least my backup 15$ apevia 420W will run it underclocked and w/o any gaming so i can write this. this same apevia ran my SLI rig with no probs when i had it. i upgraded it asap and kept it around as a backup just in case...glad i did. hope this helps. oh and the biostar TA770 mobo is fantastic, it survived 2 PSU's dying on it in its first week of use. and kept the rest of my parts on line and safe as well.

  • Hi Everyone Im New, Got Question About Upgrading MSI GT60 0ND With SSD

Hi Everyone I'm New, Got Question About Upgrading MSI GT60 0ND With SSD.
:welcome:So As I've stated I'm new here, or at least got a new MSI notebook.
Ive got the new MSI gt60 0ND with 750GB HD and 675 Ge-Force GTX , anyways to the bottom line.
I would like to Upgrade my computer with SSD that I bought and install the win8 on it, in order to speed things up, but I have encountered a few problems..
    1. there is no sticker on the back of the computer that gives information about the serial number of my windows 8...
    2. lets say in some magical way I could get the serial number out, can I use it to reinstall ? because Ive heard that you cannot use this CD key anyways unless you got a special win8 installation CD key from MSI because its MSI branded windows 8.
am I screwed    ? ?? ? I thought it is possible to upgrade with SSD but it seems like MSI made it very hard, I do not understand why they even putted the warranty void sticker on the expansion bay's .... WEIRD..
Please help !! Thanks in advance,
    David

  • Bios compatibility for SLI MSI 780 TI Gaming 3G

    Good afternoon!
Well, before retailers and other places clear out their stock of the 780 TI, I'd like to get another one.
My question is - I've gotten an updated BIOS from this forum for my current MSI Geforce GTX 780 TI Gaming 3G. When I get my second one and attempt to use SLI - does my second card require the same BIOS that my current card was updated to for SLI to work?
Or do I not need to worry about that? I just want to get my head in order before I pull the trigger on this.
    Thanks again guys!

    Quote from: badboy2k on 20-September-14, 01:42:30
do not flash your new one with the others VBIOS version (If you need one for it come and ask us for one as different batches need different versions as the VRAM may be different)!
I would never do that! I probably won't even flash the other one if it's not necessary.

  • Red Screen with SLI MSI GTX560 Ti Twin Frozr II/OC

    Hi at all,
A few days ago I received the two cards I mentioned in the title of the thread.
I proceeded to uninstall the current drivers on my PC and remove the GTX285, then mount the two GTX560 and install the latest drivers 285.62 (SO Windows  Seven 64-bit).
Basically I have a problem, especially when I play Crysis 2 (but I also happened with other games) that the display turns red, as you can see here.
Note that this problem only occurs when I close the game or do alt + tab, or less rarely when I open the game. In addition, to bring back the normal screen, it is sufficient to start any game or unplug and replug the HDMI cable to the video card.
In addition, disabling SLI or even leaving a single card attached (regardless of the card and the PCI-E slots used) the problem does not occur.
    What can be?
I also wanted to know one thing: one of the card has problems of dissipation, it also has temperatures of 20° C above the other (tested individually).
Since the SLI and a lot warmer during exercise (I tried it with FurMark) the card heats up dangerously (more than 90° and I saw even reach 100° after a few minutes of testing), I would request the replacement of the card to the dealer or MSI for this defect?
    Davide
    ps: sorry for my english

I got to do other tests. Consider that I have 2 monitors connected (Asus VK246H and Samsung TV HD Ready) and the problem occurs only the Asus monitor.
    In summary:
    A single card: Ok
    With SLI active: No
    With SLI off: Ok
    Connecting via VGA cable: Ok
    Changing the DVI cable: No
To which I add these others:
Changing the SLI connector (with an identical one, Asus 08G160001240): No
By connecting the monitor to the secondary card: Ok (the same as flipping cards, keeping the monitor connected to the primary vga the problem occur itself, connected to the secondary does not occur).
By connecting the monitor with an HDMI cable instead of DVI: Ok
What else can I do, whereas I've found that is not an OS or driver problem and that the two cards individually do not have this problem?
It could be a problem of DVI on the monitor? And if so, why does it only with SLI enabled, there is difference in the signal that comes from a single VGA and the signal that comes from a VGA with SLI enabled?

  • Please Help :) MSI NX8800gt Card Wont work on MS-7255

I have the MS-7255 board and the MSI 512mb NX8800GT card with 700w power supply and 1 gig of ram but the PC wont boot up.
Not even the BIOS screen will display, the fan on the CPU and PCIE card just keep spinning.
When I insert my old radeon x1650 card the pc boots perfectly. I have tried the live update feature but when the tests complete i get a runtime error (empty object) and the update is not done.
    Main steps taken :
Removed old radeon drivers, insert new MSI card, add 700w psu which works fine when radeon card is installed
    Seat Card properly
Insert Additional 6 pin PCIE connector
    Turn on PC
Bios screen doesn't show or any of the usual warning beeps, fan just keeps spinning
Ive never flashed a bios before and I dont have a floppy drive or usb key
I'm sure its down to an out of date motherboard but the live update will not work for me on IE 6 or 7, can you help in any way?
Ive bought a new card and a new psu I cant get it to run

I also connected the additional power supply to the card, but when I start the machine the fans on the CPU and on the Graphics card just keep on spinning and the bios doesnt appear nor do any sounds beep, unlike when I use the old radeon card when you get 1 beep and then the bios....
As best as I can make out, the BIOS and the VGA bios are out of date but I cant use live update

  • Question about my msi r6770 with 3 port the (HDMI,DVI,D-Sub)?

i bought my videocard msi r6770 with only the D-sub connector in the package in the box..
my vcard has 3 ports the HDMI, DVI, D-Sub
what is the diference betwen the 3?
so can i use the other cable the DVI and HDMI?
what is the diference if i use D-sub and Dvi, or HDMI advantage and disadvantage?
my monitor is SA300 with port DVI and D-Sub..

I actually just answered my own question right before I saw your reply.  But thank you for confirming what I thought.  That makes a lot of sense.  I already have my existing DVD player set up with the component video cable and you are correct about needing an audio cable.  I learned that through a process of elimination when I was setting that up and I have plenty of extra audio cables in my closet, so we're definitely on the same wavelength.  My existing DVD player doesn't have the HDMI capability but the component video cable is fine.  Now I just have a better understanding of how this works.   I believe that my existing DVD player is analog but it's very good and I will glady keep it until it goes.
I was also just fooling with my TV settings.  On my "source" list, I had had TV selected as source but I switched it to HDMI, which is what I already connected to my HDTV --- what a difference in sound and picture quality.
