Temperature Reading for Thinkpad T510 Usage

Hi All,
I got a question regarding the standard / acceptable temperature operating range for the thinkpad t510 laptops. So my setup currently is my t510 is connected to an external monitor, external speakers, external keyboard and mouse. So it is essentially a desktop except using the innerds of the laptop as the "heart" of the system. My power manager has set the cpu to be adaptive. The temperature readings I am getting for the CPU and the Motherboard from downloading the program called Speccy from Piriform are at an average of 60 and 61 degrees C. I am wondering if that is within normal operating temperature for the laptop and if it is acceptable. Or is this temperature not ok and the reason why it is so high is that I am using the externals. Also, I am not even using heavy load work for the laptop besides for web browsing and listening to music and working on documents / spread sheet so basically office work.
And lastly, would the temperature problem be solved if in the future I would to get a w530 laptop since those laptops are more "powerful"?? Or is that wrong and the temperature is normal.
Thanks in advance for answers

Is it because of the confined space or is it because the cpu is i7??
Either or both, It also depends on what you're doing with the T510. If the CPU is running hard that will definitely raise the temperature compared to idle/light load.
Make sure the fan air exhaust (and intake if the T510 has one) grilles aren't obstructed. Leave a few inches to let air circulate.
Also consider:
1. Place plastic or wood spacers below the unit to raise it an inch or so above the desktop.
2. Use a USB-powered notebook fan base/pad to circulate air beneath the unit.
Neither will make a huge improvement but they'll both help.

  • How to repair sleep mode problem for thinkpad t510

    hi, everybody
Recently, I found that the windows was wakeup once I touch the mouse when the laptop was in the lid closing position. A wireless mouse connected into my laptop. After I close the lid, the windows turns to sleep mode. But once I move the wireless mouse, the windows is wakeup with closing lid. How can I fix this problem? I dont want the window wakeup once I move the wireless mouse. I just simply want windows turns to sleep mode after I close the lid. My operation system is win 7.
    Many thank.

Uncheck the Wake computer checkmarks in Device Manager for your wireless mouse. If it's Bluetooth, disable it for that too.

  • Smart card reader for T510

    Hello everybody,
    I have a T510 4313-CTO with a contact smart card reader.
I just wanted to know if the contactless smart card reader 60Y5031 is both contactless and contact reader or contactless only.
If it's contactless only, is there an option to have both in the machine ?
It's kind of difficult to find infos about it.
    Thanks,
    Vince.
Knowledge is of two kinds. We know a subject ourselves, or we know where we can find information on it.
    ThinkPad T510 4313-CTO Windows 8 x64 - Intel Core i7-620M - NVIDIA NVS 3100M - 8GB RAM - 240GB SSD- Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 - Gobi 2000.

You can slide a card into it, I have yet to get it to recognize a contactless card without sliding it in.

  • Thinkpad T510 6-Cell vs. 9-Cell Battery

For a Thinkpad T510 with 128gb SSD, i5-540 processor, nvidia 3100m 512 mb discrete graphics, and 4 gb RAM, does a 6-cell battery cut it? How much time should I expect with a 6-cell and with a 9-cell battery? Also, by how much does the 9-cell protrude past the back of the laptop?

I have a 6 cell with my T510 and I'd say for normal usage (browsing internet on youtube, watching some news clips, reading email, surfing the net and stuff) the usual time I get on performance setting is around 2 hours.  If intend to take this out and use it for a day, 2 hours certainly won't cut it.

  • 1 month old Thinkpad T510 random reboot issue.

    Hi all.
I have Thinkpad T510 just 1 month old and it restarts randomly without any warning. I have been experiencing this issue since last one week. In the beginning, I was experiencing this issue only once so I thought problem might be with windows. Then, I tried ubuntu (linux) and still same problem exitsts. So I gave call to lenovo technical support and ask for refund and told me they can refund only to DOA and within 10 days of arrival. They told me to send laptop to service centre for repair. My laptop is hardly 1 month old and I hardly use it for 15 days. If I send them for repair then they will change m/bd which i don't want for 1 month old laptop.  I told them that If i have to replaced m'bd within 1 month then I would have gone for refurbished laptop.
I told them for refund/replacement for laptop and they refused. Anyone has any experience with refund/replacement for 1 month old laptop. I told rep that I am planning to go for consumer protection and rep rudely replied to me that you are free to go. sorry for my poor english. Any help is much appreciated.

    update on the issue.
I have contacted lenovo call centre and ask for replacement/refund several time over the phone and refused. I contacted manager on the phone and still got same answer. (It tooks three weeks of time)
Then, I send email to the manager in Lenovo customer care and ask for the same and refused to give refund/replacement and ask to do repair on the laptop. (another three weeks of time)
Later, I contacted fair-trading and complained about the issue and demanded refund on laptop. They contacted Lenovo and replied to do first check on laptop and then they consider for replacement/repair. I contacted Lenovo again to arrange laptop for diagnostics and they still offered me only repair and refused to do refund on laptop. After long argument, we agree to do first diagnoses of the problem and to decide later on the refund. (another 3 weeks)
I know that problem is with faulty m/board and they need to replace m/board to rectify the fault. I specifically told that I don't want to do any repair on the laptop. My argument is that If I have to replace a motherboard or any repair  only after 15 days of usage than I rather purchased a refurbished laptop for half price!  and there is still no guarantee after m/bd replacement that it won't fail in the future.
I'll wait for the diagnostics results. I 'll proceeds to the tribunal if they still refused to give me refund on new laptop.
Angry and frustated customer.. (Those who consider to buy new laptop, I advised them to Think ! 510 times before you make any decision)

  • ThinkPad T510 type 4313 Windows 7 64 bit- sound in and out

    Hi,
I bought my ThinkPad T510 in March 2011, had purchased a 1 year warranty, which has expired. My sound issue started almost 2 months ago. While watching DVD's, videos online at any site from yahoo, facebook, youtube, netflix, hulu etc my sound will stop completely while the video still runs. I have to press the volume buttons on the keyboard either up or down to turn the sound back on temporarily. The sound may come back on for 15 minutes or 5 seconds. Sometimes the volume buttons are not effective and then I have to click on the speaker button in the bottom right hand side of the screen to manually slide the volume button up or down.
It seems like such a small problem with an easy fix, but it is extremely frustrating when watching for example, a 30 second video and having to hover over the volume button.
     I've tried everything.
    - Called Lenovo for support or direction for this quick fix that should be available (I can't be the only one with this issue, because I've never had this problem before). This issue isn't familiar, I can ship it in, and possibly pay up to $600 for them to locate and fix the issue.
    - Updating the Conexant drivers
    - Removing current driver and having it auto reinstall most up to date driver
    - trying the diagnose & fix app on here which found nothing wrong
    - Ran my Norton virus check
    - removed all cookies and history
    - Updated the conexant drivers from the Lenovo Support tab
    - Used monthly Norton phone support 3 different times to diagnose and fix the issue
I am at a loss, please help.
I've been told it could be a hardware issue or the VOIP may need to be turned off. Norton cannot touch "the brain"over the phone

    Hey Soundless,
Have you updated your BIOS to 1.52?
Try to find older audio driver versions and see if it works.
Also, check in Device Manager under your audio devices and make sure that you don't have any audio drivers conflicting with each other.

  • ThinkPad T510: eSata External Hard Drive Not Working with Windows 7...

    Hey folks,
My LaCie Quadra 1TB drive arrived on Monday and the Quadra disconnects 1 minute into any copy / move function using the eSata connection. The USB 2.0 connection works just fine, however, I invested the extra money in a Quadra specifically to take advantage of eSata connection and would like to get this working.
I received the following from LaCie support:
"...the issue with eSATA and large or small drives on Windows 7 is a known issue.  However, it is not limited to LaCie drives and we believe this to be a Windows 7 driver issue from Microsoft... using a third party eSATA card with its own drivers does eliminate the issue."
So, before I spend another £50 on an eSata ExpressCard trying to fix something that should work out of the box:
Any idea how to get my eSata drive working on my ThinkPad T510 or ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3?
Does the ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 eSata connector have its own drivers, as this - ideally - is where I'd like my external drive to be permanenelty connected.
    Kind regards,
    John Diddy

    Hi Bananaman,
Nope. tried a new eSATA cable and the issues are exactly the same.
LaCie recommend an ExpressCard with it's own drivers to resolve the problem. Trying to avoid this route as I intend to use the drive for regular backups and running virtual machines so it'll be used heavily and I'd rather not have a cable sticking out of the side instead of the docking station!
    Any further thoughts?

  • [SOLVED] Thinkpad T510 - Intel Core i7 - Integrated Graphics

    Hi,
    i recent bought a ThinkPad T510 4349-2RG with an Intel Core i7 M 620 built-in. There is also an NVIDIA  NVS 3100.
According to the Intel-Homepage, my CPU should have an integrated GPU (http://www.intel.com/products/processor … ations.htm).
The NVIDIA card just works fine with the latest binary driver. But I would also like to use the integrated Intel GMA (Battery life) and/or bumblebee.
The problem is that the Intel GMA dont get recognized by the kernel, but its also not visible in BIOS (normally there should be an option to select between "Intel integrated" "discrete" and "Optimus" - i've updated to the latest BIOS version 1.44). I double-checked this with a live CD of Ubuntu Linux 11.04 (also only NVIDIA).
Is there any option to get this running?

    Memo

    Sort of solved...
    NOTE!
While almost all new ThinkPads have integrated Intel HD Graphics, on those ThinkPads with a Descrete NVIDIA GPU, the Intel GPU is disabled and cannot be enabled. There is no support for Switchable Graphics.
    NOTE!
Contrary to the statement above, you can select the GPU in the BIOS of recent models with Nvidia Optimus, e.g. the T510 4384GEG. Windows seems to be able to switch between the GPUs, too.
    http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Intel_HD_Graphics
I guess there is no way getting this to work, unless Lenovo unlocks this feature via BIOS-update.

  • Logbook: ThinkPad T510 running Fedora Linux

A few days ago I bought my new shiny ThinkPad T510 (4314-7NU, i5 520M) and what I did the next hour after I turned it on the first time was I removed its Win7 and installed my beloved Fedora 14 (64-bit version).
Here I'm going to share my experience running this Linux OS on T510.
    So far so good!
Everything worked just fine right out of the box (WiFi, Fingerprint reader, Bluetooth, Sound&Mic, Camera, suspend mode). The laptop was 100% ready for work the very next minute after the Fedora installation process has finished.
    Bravo Lenovo! Great job Fedora!
The only issue I faced was a well known CPU whine, but since it's not related to OS I won't bother about this in here.
(btw, switching Power Management seems to help a enough).
Stay tuned, I'll be posting about how everything is going

    Hey
Good to know that every thing works! Do share how the fingerprint reader was configured in Linux...
    Cheers and regards,

  • Thinkpad T510 Random Bluescreens

    Hi all,
I've got a Thinkpad T510 (4313-CTO) that I am having trouble with. It is only about a month old.
What happens is, when I boot into Windows (including Safe Mode) I get a BSOD at varying stages of the bootup, sometimes I can use the machine for 3 or 4 minutes, and sometimes it just BSOD's at the Windows Loading screen.
The fact that it happens at various stages, in normal and safe modes, makes me think that it is a hardware issue. I'm not sure if this series (or any) of Lenovo's machines used the Sandy Bridge lot, but it is possible that it could be the problem.
It doesn't bluescreen in Acronis TrueImage that I loaded from the bootable CD.

Any help that anyone can provide is appreciated.

    ShaunSforza, welcome to the forum,
you don't mention which version of Windows you have installed, or if it's a factory or manually installed version of that system. Maybe you could add this information.
    Thanks

  • ThinkPad T510 - both sets of mouse buttons acting strange

A few days ago, on my ThinkPad t510, the mouse buttons for both trackpad and trackpoint went haywire. Left clicks were registering as right click.. and right click buttons did nothing.
At first, I thought "haha, someone's pulled a prank on me and swapped them".. Negative. After checking in mouse control panel, all was well. Ran System Update and Windows Update, all up to date. Ran the gamut of spyware and malware tools, nothing.
Then I booted into a Live Linux environment, to eliminate the possibility of undetected malware and anything on the Windows 7 install itself being corrupt. Same thing was going on.
If I use a usb external mouse, it fixes it, but still the integrated right click buttons don't work.
I've ordered a new keyboard and palmrest w/ trackpad assembly, in case it's that... so we shall see.
However, has anyone had anything like this happen? Or have any idea what may be causing it?

Hi, I got the same problem on my T510 4313 , this weekend. I tried the configuration ,  but eventually just reloaded the OS , factory reinstall. it worked for an afternoon and back to the same problem. I see you ordered the new keybaord and palm rest, did that fix the problem?

  • The backpack and lap desk I bought for my T510

I recently ordered a Targus TBB060US Chromatic Backpack for 16" laptops for my T510.
Why did I pick this bag?  Well, it claims to fit a 15.25" by 10.5" by 1.65" laptop, which is virtually perfect for my 14.75" by 10.5" by 1.625" T510 (with 9-cell), the bag doesn't appear to be extremely bulky, the straps look wide, thick, and well-padded, and I like the general look of it.
I finally got my backpack today, and I've uploaded a few pics in case you are curious:
Bag flat on floor | Perfect Fit for T510 | Perfect Fit 2 | Straps and Padded Back | Bag held upright
The bag seems great!  It's lightweight, comfortable (based on very brief test), compact yet seems to offer a decent amount of storage, and the laptop fits perfectly--like a glove!  I also really like the subtle exterior styling, and the green interior accents.
In addition to the backpack, I picked up a Belkin CushDesk to try out.  So far I think it's pretty comfy, and doesn't cut into my legs like the laptop can at times on its own.  Here's a couple of pics of it, too:

    Ordered 2/Feb/2010 : Shipped 22/Feb/2010 : Received 3/Mar/2010

    1) To rename, while your ipod is connected to iTunes, go to "summary" and click the name of the ipod and change accordingly.
    2) To sync, when ipod is connected to iTunes, go to ipod menu and select "music". Then check if "sync music" is selected. If not, select accordingly then perform the sync again.
    Cheers!

  • Thinkpad T510

Hi gang, new member and new owner of the mighty Thinkpads
My questions for the forum are as follows:
I purchased a stripped T510 with no battery , caddy or hard drive.
I purchased a new 6 cell battery and hard drive caddy and now have a problem deciding which ssd to choose.
    I have my eye on:
    OCZ Agility 3 60gb ( agt3-25sat3-60g )
    OCZ Vertex 2 90gb ( oczssd3-2vtx90g )
Or any intel ssd thats at least 60gb
I understand the T510 is limited to its sata 2 controller(3gb/s) and it is fine. Im not going to use my laptop to break any speed records. I will be getting an ultabay and adding a cheap 320gb hard drive 7925DDfor storage or just use my external enclosure and the delicious eSata port ( i get excited about my laptop easily) so I am not worried about the difference in ssd capacity all that much(60 gb vs 90)
What I am interested in is the experience of the forum in regards to what ssd the T510 will play nice with.
Should I stay away from OCZ or Intel? I can update firmware if necessary but would like a good dependable ssd to use.
Windows 7 will be my OS.
    Thanks for any advices.
    Lenovo Thinkpad T510 | [email protected] | 4GB PC8500 | Win7

    Welcome to the forum!
I'm currently using several Intel 320 series SSDs along with a Crucial M4 (lenovo version, known as Micron C400) and these would get my highest recommendations.
My experiences with OCZ have been mixed, and I'm being kind here. The customer support in itself left a *lot* to be desired.
    My $0.02 only.

  • [SOLVED] Thinkpad T510, freezes on battery power

My Thinkpad T510 will freeze after anything from a few seconds to a few minutes after boot. I cannot do anything except hard power off the laptop. Sometimes it freezes at the login screen, sometimes at the desktop. So far it hasn't frozen on boot. I'm using Gnome 3 and GDM. Laptop-mode which is enabled on battery and AC power. I'm using the nvidia graphics card with proprietary drivers.
I actually had a similar problem to this before, where it would freeze on battery power but much less often, usually anything from 10 minutes to hours after boot. It seemed like that problem had been fixed, but it has come back much, much worse.
I wonder if the updated Nvidia 302 drivers are to blame, but I have no idea how I might go about finding out.
Last edited by themusicalduck (2012-07-22 11:27:02)

EDIT: I found the laptop will still freeze once it had reached low battery power. To fix it properly, I backed up and then replaced the entire contents of /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/wireless with
    #!/bin/sh
    /sbin/iwconfig wlan0 power off
I ran the laptop down to critical battery level and had no freeze.
After hours of trawling Google, I *think* I've found a solution. At least it's been running for a good half hour now without freezing.
    To fix, open up /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/wireless
    Find the section -
    case $1 in
    true) wireless_powersave on ;;
    false) wireless_powersave off ;;
    *) exit $NA ;;
    esac
    and change it to -
    case $1 in
    true) wireless_powersave off ;;
    false) wireless_powersave off ;;
    *) exit $NA ;;
    esac

  • What is the definition of "All Projects" in P6 EPPM for the Team Usage Charts?

In P6 Professional 8.3, there is a User Preference setting which can be used to define "All Projects" for the Resource Usage Profile. The choices are: All Open, All Closed except What-if, All Closed with Leveling Priority over x. In P6 EPPM 8.3, there are My Preferences settings. In these settings, I see several choices which are also in the P6 Professional User Preferences, but I do not see a way to set the definition of "All Projects". Does this mean that EPPM uses the SAME settings as selected in P6 Professional or does it mean that "All Projects" is not configurable in P6 EPPM? If it is not configurable in P6 EPPM, what is the definition of "All Projects" in P6 EPPM?
