Temperature WARNING - iPhone 4!

Arghhh!
I got a phone call on my iPhone 4 and then it cut the connection off and displayed an message: http://www.lockergnome.com/blade/files/2009/07/ht1871_1.jpg
temperature
iphone needs to cool down before you can use it.
It's the first time iv come across this error! and the worst thing was - the iPhone wasn't even HOT, in fact it hadn't been used for over 7hrs!!!
this just better not be a new batch of errors!

This Temperature warning is why my iPhone 4 now has a shattered back panel.
It was sitting on my cool glass front room table not doing anything for 70 minutes (I know this as I'd been watching England Vs Germany) when Germany hit their 4th goal. I picked up the phone and went outside for a smoke. Noticed that when I tried to unlock the phone it had the Temperature error so I took a screen grab, found a shady spot next to me and popped it down to cool off on a cool bit of concrete ledge I was sat on.
about a minute or so later, without me touching the phone it slid off the ledge falling about 2.5 feet onto the concrete floor, resulting in the back glass shattering.
What I don't get is why it had overheated? I make sure I go into my multitasking option and remove anything running every couple of hours. I know nothing was running at the time and I know that if this 'overheating' issue had not have occurred I would not have popped the phone on the side and it would not have made it's merry way from the centre of the ledge it was comfortably (and safely) say on, to being layed on the floor, shattered.
Well, the issue took my mind off the crushing England destruction, but now I am awaiting Apple's reply about a repair, failing that, my banks 'Purchase Protection'.
Temperature rubbish. What a joke.

  • I had a temperature warning come up on my iPhone 4 and now it won't turn on

I had a temperature warning come up on my iPhone 4 saying I needed to cool it to use it or something and turned it off and attempted to turn it back on as a means of fixing it, but it didn't work and now my phone isn't turning back on and even when I connect it to the charging cable (either to a plug socket or iTunes via my laptop) nothing happens; it doesn't even seem to detect it, my phone is still lifeless.
Anyone know what to do about this and how to fix my phone again? Cos right now, it's nothing more than a nice looking paper-weight. Would appreciate the feedback, thanks.

Try a hard reset while connected to power: (adapter, not iTunes on computer): Press and hold both the Home button and Sleep/wake button at the same time for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple Logo appears.
If this doesn't work: try to force restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
NB: the article above will erase all data and content, so make sure you've got a backup
    Good luck

  • IPhone 4 Temperature warning

I'm not getting much help from another forum that I posted this issue at so I figure that I should try here.
I experienced something very odd with my iPhone 4...
I received a text message and went to check it a minute later. I pressed the on/off button and the screen briefly flickered on then quickly turned off. I did it again and it stayed on this time and it seems to work fine now, for the most part. However, in the brief time that the screen flickered on and off and when I first turned it on for good, I saw the screen saying "Temperature Warning". The temperature warning was only there briefly then disappeared. Like I said, it seems to be working fine now for the most part.
I have a 32GB GSM iPhone 4 running iOS 4.1. I plan to upgrade to 4.3.1 eventually. The iPhone was laying flat on a table and hadn't been used in a couple of hours. It was room temperature (~68°F) when I picked it up. No apps were running in the background.
At this point, should I be overly concerned and gearing up to call Apple?

If you contact Apple, they will most likely suggest restoring your phone from your most recent backup, followed by syncing your iTunes content back to your phone. If the issue does not occur again, you're good to go. If it does, you would then restore your phone as a "new" device in iTunes, again followed by syncing your content back to your phone. If after doing the above & the issue occurs again, a trip to an Apple store would be in order.

  • Iphone 5 just showed a temperature warning

I have not used my phone but as I picked it up a temperature warning sign came on the screen and my phone was really hot. After switching it back on it's taken about 10% battery in the time it's taken to switch it back on and it does not show my wifi or signal. The phone was not charging when this happened and it took about an hour to start cooling down although it was switched off. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hey Nici Lou,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your concerned because your iPhone displayed the temperature warning screen and may have entered a low power state. Take a look at the article linked below, it provides a lot of great information which should answer any questions that you may have about  operating temperatures and temperature management.

  • Please i need help. My iphone 4s have a temperature warning then the iphone turn-off right away and no matter how we press the power button the iphone doesnt start..please help me.

i already charged it but nothing shows in the screen.. i did the long pressing both home button and sleep/wake button still no result.. please help me..

If it has a temperature warning, you may have over heated it. Keep it inside and at a cooler temperature exposure. Give it some time. Try holding down the home button and the power button at the same time until something happens.

  • My iPhone 5 has the temperature warning but is cold to touch.

My phone was beside me when I noticed the temperature warning. The phone feels cold to the touch. I've left it over night as it says it needs to cool down but there is no change. If you ring the phone the call comes throu but then then cuts off when you answer the call.

When you say you have Internet service, are you connected to wifi? Have you tried a reset on the phone? Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo, then release. The phone will reboot. After it starts, see what happens. Do you have a valid SIM in the phone, one that is activated through a carrier? Have you contacted the carrier to see what they say, since phone service is a carrier responsibility?

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    - Try another cable.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic. I suspect this is your problem
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

This is the worst update I've ever seen...
I've liked thi iPhone very much, but I have no use for it if works like this....

  • Keep Getting Temperature Warning...

I keep getting the temperature warning, and my iPod isn't even hot. Recently, I've been getting it around ever 5 minutes, and that time just keeps getting shorter. It's horrible. I'm also getting the warning just when it's charging. I don't understand why it's happening. Plus, I've only had my iPod for a little over 3 months so it's not even that old. Have you ever had this problem? What should I do? Also, in the case that I'm going to have to get a new iPod, how do I save the apps I've bought?

You can try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restoring from backup
    - Restoring to factory defaults/new iPod.
If you still have the problem you very likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. If defective, Apple will exchange your iPod for a replacment.

  • My 5g touch has temperature warning go off when I plug in headphones.

It works fine until I plug in headphones. Within 15 seconds of plugging in headphones, the temperature warning comes up and says it is too hot. It will stay on for a few seconds to a few minutes then go away but within a few seconds of unlocking, it appears again. If I restart it, it will work fine until I put headphones in again.

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a hardware problem.
