Temperature when using macbook

hey guys,
Apple states that the operating temperatue of the macbookpro is between 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C), does that refer to the ambient temperature?
Anyway, my macbook pro usually runs at more than 65° C, i'm not sure if that is normal, so I'm thinking if you can share the temperatures your macbook reaches when in use, specifically the CPU cores. I use iStatmenus, from http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus, to read the temperatures.
Many thanks!:)

Yes it does refer to the ambient temperature.

The internal temperatures generated in a MBP are a reflection of the type and number of applications that are in use.  65°c is well within acceptable temperature levels and should not be a cause for concern.
My personal experience has been temperatures in the low 40°c range for light activity and upwards.  Games, video, Skype can generate 'normal" temperatures well into the 90°c levels..  Thermal shutdown will occur at about 105°c.

  • Low resolution AirPlay when using MacBook Pro but high when using iPad

I have a very strange issue. When I use Airplay from my iPad the image on the television is very clear and sharp, looking like a great HD picture. Wen I stream from my MacBook Pro, or mirror the screen, to the Apple TV the image degrades to a choppy, low-resolution, muddy version that looks terrible! It's strange because I have not had this issue before.
Anyone have any ideas on what is going on with this? Again, the image from the iPad is fine, the image from the MacBook Pro is low-resolution. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

  • Strange color temperature when using iSight

The image generated by my iSight always tends to have a "yellow" tone to it. Can the color temperature be adjusted somewhere? I compared images obtained under the same lighting by colleagues and the color temp with their Macbooks is more blue/white. It is frustrating to always look jaundiced!

iSight color is set automatically by the app that runs it and is effected by room lighting and even reflections from your monitor, room decor, floor, and wall coverings.
I can suggest two ways to change the color of your images:
    (1) Use only one color of light in the room, and adjust it by changing lamps if necessary. See Apple's article at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3097
This single room light color includes reflections from your monitor. I change my System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Desktop to use one of the Solid Gray colors rather than the standard screen color that is installed with Mac OS. The solid, neutral nature of gray greatly reduces the yellow color shift that is automatically applied to correct for a blue or purple desktop. The difference is increasingly notable as room light is reduced.
Tungsten light is very orange-yellow. If your only light source is tungsten and you are still seeing an image that is too yellow, try changing the lamp bulb to one of the daylight-colored fluorescent replacement lamps. After testing four different brands and colors, I found one that works in my room.
    (2) You can take manual control if you add iGlasses2: http://www.ecamm.com/mac/iglasses/
You can try before you buy to see if it does what you want.
(10.6 users note that iGlasses is NOT yet compatible.)

  • Apple Wireless Keyboard is lagging and disconnecting when using Macbook Pro via Bootcamp

    Hey guys,
I am using my Macbook Pro (I think from 2009) with an external monitor and the apple wireless keyboard (connection via Bluetooth).
First when I set up Bootcamp everything worked fine. But now suddenly the keyboard is lagging (letters sometimes appear after a few seconds or get stuck and typed 20 times or something) and randomly completely disconnecting.
I already downloaded the newest drivers for Boot Camp 64bit from the apple website, but this didnt solve my problem.
I tried disconnecting the keyboard on mac and then reconnecting on the Windows 7 partition again. Also didn't work.
Of course I had to reconnect the keyboard when on the mac.
But it's not that it's not working. I'm using the keyboard via Bootcamp right now. It's just that it's randomly doing this...
Now I don't know what to do. Do some of you have the same issues or have any ideas that might help?

  • Apple TV  - TV program closes when using Macbook?

I was watching a TV program on my Apple TV 2 yesterday.
The program was purchased from iTunes and was/is available on iCloud.
Therefore I was watching it straight from iCloud over my home wifi.
However about half way through I turned my Macbook on and went into iTunes. This stopped the progam from playing and took me to the Apple TV main menu.
On my Apple TV I restarted the program by going to purchased selecting the episode and pressing play. Again this is over iCloud and not Home Sharing. I had to fastforward to where I was as there was no option to "resume playback".
A couple of minutes later i turned off my Macbook and Apple TV stopped playing! I had to do the same again.
I tested this again turning macbook/itunes on and off and it did the same thing.
Why should turning iTunes on or off have an impact on what Apple TV is displaying if Apple TV is connected to iCloud rather than Home Sharing? Home Sharing on both Apple TV and MacBook is turned on.
Basically can I stop Apple Tv from quitting what i'm watching on iCloud just because my macbook is turned on?
    Any thoughts?

How is the content being selected to be played on the ATV, via the Movies or Computers option?
If the former, the computer should not need to be on to play.
If the later, the computer must be on and iTunes must be running.

You still have to point to the cell to edit.  A double tap on the trackpad will allow an "in cell" edit of the formula. (If you have tap to click enabled in preferences)

  • Is it dangerous using macbook pro while charging?

Hi,did anyone experienced any electric issue when using macbook pro unibody while charging? When I use it during the recharge process the electricity pass trough my body.I can say that because one day when I was using it (with the hands on the keyboard) my girlfriend came and touched my face moving her hands on my cheeks and I felt a weird sensation like a vibration on my face so I unplugged the power cord leaving the hands on the keyboard (with palms near the trackpad) and I didnt feel it anymore. It is known that the electric fields can cause cancer.Am I in danger?I don't think it is a good thing that electricity pass trough my body anyway. There is any way to fix this problem?(a part of not using it while connected to the wall charger).Thank you

Some people are more sensative to EMF's then others. If there is a bad connection in your house or in your computer, then you may experience this more then others.
My guess is your house may have some faulty wiring somewhere and needs to be addressed. Get an EMF detector and see if you get spikes in the area of where your plug in your computer. Or rather, call an electrician who can check for these spikes around your house. Some houses, especially older ones, will have electrical problems, but even newer ones can have these since someitmes the laborer who installed it didn't know what they were doing or didn't bother checking.
get a surge protector for your electronics, especially your computer deivces.

  • 2008 Macbook Unibody, CPU running at 86C when using Netflix.  Normal?

Hey I realize that my macbook is getting a little older.  Just I noticed that while streaming netflix the CPU temp got up ot 86C-88C.  I think I even saw it up to 91 C .   Average temp when using netflix is >80 C.  Are these within normal temperature ranges?
Sorry if this is a silly question.  It just seems my computer is running hotter than it used to

  • Close the macbook pro when using external display

    Hi
I would like to know if is recomended to close the laptop when using an external display? i ask because i read somewhere that the system take ventilation through the keyboard? is better to work with the laptop always open? or doesn't matter if is closed?

    Third opinion...
I had a 2.16GHz 15" MacBook Pro that I used as a presentation machine at some trade shows in '07 and I once ran the machine with the lid closed, hooked up to an overhead projector looping a movie for 11 hours. When I finally shut it down for the night the machine was pretty warm (it was well ventilated) and was immediately usable. Out of curiosity the next day I ran it with a lid slightly cracked and the unit was significantly warmer at the completion of my day.
The only thing I could justify as the temperature difference is that the LCD was on and causing heat in addition to the video card. I guess I would have been curious to leave the lid slightly cracked and then manually set the backlight to off.

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

The first thing you should do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model. Look it up on this page to see what version was originally installed.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. I suggest you install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. If you don't have the media, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Once booted from the disc or in Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, buy it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able toauthorize it under your ID. In that case, contact iTunes Support.

  • HT201177 no audio when using a mini display port to HDMI cable to TV on my Macbook pro

no audio when using a mini display port to HDMI cable to TV on my Macbook pro. can only see the video

I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it.  Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there.  The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple.  They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one.  From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate.  And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one.  Try a new one.  Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.

  • I am stumped I do not understand why my roommates macbook pro when duel screened will display perfectly on my monitor while mine refuses to, but mine will display perfectly when using another monitor that is not mine. Please help me out.

One day when using my duel display the second monitor decided it wouldn't display at full resolution in the middle of doing something i was confused. I use a mini display to hdmi then hdmi to the second monitor. I thought maybe the converter or cable died. I bought another another mini display to hdmi and tried another hdmi cord and the same issue. My roommate has macbook pro as well so i decided to see if it was the monitor, when i pluged the mini display converter into his and used the external monitor it displayed perfectly not below resolution. Doing this I knew it was not the monitor or the mini display to hdmi or the hdmi cable. I took it into the genuis bar assuming now that it was my grapics card or logic board. When the genuis went to duel screen it on a cinema display it displayed perfectly. So went home tried to duel screen it again and still not displaying at full resolution. That is where I am stuck, in summary:
My screen used to display perfect resolution on a second monitor and suddenly did not.
Tested two mini display to hdmi and hdmi cords both were fine.
Tested to see if monitor was issue but displayed perfectly when i used roommates laptop.
Went to genius bar and displayed perfectly on second monitor so it can display perfect resolution on apples monitors but will not do so anymore on my monitor, even though roommates macbook pro will display perfect resolution on my monitor.
    I am beyond confused.

Apparently you have tried everything except - take the monitor in question to the Apple Store along with your computer.  If it works there, the mystery continues.
