Temperemental New Tracks on iTunes

Hi
I have a problem with iTunes where any track I import after a certain date (which I think must have been near when I last updated to iTunes 7.5), will only stay in my library for a few times (i.e after 2/3 times of closing and opening iTunes).
And when I put these songs back into iTunes (which I have done many times!), iTunes remembers the information I had previously changed (i.e album/genre etc)
I put these songs in a new Smart Playlist but then the playlist would disappear just as the songs would.
I have Windows Vista which I believe has had many problems with iTunes 7.5
Has anyone else had this problem or could anyone suggest a reason/solution?
Thanks a lot,
Gwilymjones007

One more question, how do I update the playlists which are already in my Ipod but not in the itunes library on the computer since the Oper Sys was re-installed?
I want to take "the playlists from the ipod & put them in the library back" & than update or take it from there?
Coz if I hit sync & erase - it will delete all tracks on the ipod & copy the existing library tracks.
So it is updating from Ipod to --> Library
Than when the update or playlists have been stored in itunes than I want to update back to Ipod with newer playlists <--- Library.
Any help appreciated?

Most YouTube content requires the Flash plugin. Sometimes it's necessary to uninstall then reinstall that plugin.
Uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Very important to uninstall the currently installed plugin first.
Now launch Safari and try a video.
If you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.
You may also need to delete the cache associated with Safari .
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy/paste:   ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
Click Go the move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try a video.

    Hi, BartleyBauer.
If the media that you are attempting to sync plays in iTunes, try removing the preference to sync music as this remove the media from the device.  Once this is done, try syncing the media again.

  • HT1199 Newer version of iTunes will not open.  My music is gone.  How can I get the older version back?

My "newer version" of itunes will not open.  How can I either get it to open or get the older version which worked fine?

Restore the backup before you installed.
If you didn't make a backup, at very minimum make sure your Music library isn't compromised by locating the folder you selected the music to be in (usually in Users -> yourname -> Music) and make sure there are several MB of data there by clicking once on the folder, and selecting Get Info from the File menu in the Finder.
If you can't find it, try to locate parts of track names with Find Any File.
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
then determine which parent file of the .mp3 or .mpa files you have contains all of the music files by getting info under each previous folder in the folder tree.
Once you determine which folder contains all your music, back it up using the Finder, or backup the entire hard drive using cloning software at least to two different drives or two complete copies on DVDs:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1992
You'll then want to erase and install 10.6 from the system installer you used to put 10.6 on your Mac, and run the combo 10.6.8 updater and apply the necessary security updates:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3261
Then you can install older versions of iTunes for the Mac from here, once you determine which version is compatible with 10.6.8 that you liked before by first checking which version is compatible with what you need:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITunes_version_history
Once you know that, if you can't find it with Google, let us know and maybe one of us can help. Lastly reload your music in your music folder, and your other applications.

  • I have a new computer, downloaded itunes, how do I get my old library back?

I have a new computer, downloaded itunes.  How do I get my old library back so I can sync w/ipod nano?

Do you still have the old PC around? If so, you might be able to still copy the iTunes library from that PC over to the one.
Or is the music still on your Nano?  If so, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your new PC and into iTunes.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2452022?start=0&tstart=0
Otherwise, you can redownload most iTunes purchases again at no cost using iCloud.  If the music and content was imported from outside of iTunes you'll need to either re-rip the tracks into iTunes or redownload them using whatever utility or store you originally purchased them from.

  • I have a copy of my iTunes data and I'm looking to restore it all back into a new version of iTunes reloaded after a hard drive crash.  How do I do this?

After having a hard drive crash, I've reloaded Windows 7 and all of my applications on a new hard drive.  I have also downloaded and installed a new version of iTunes on my computer.  I now want to restore all of my iTunes tracks, videos, movies, books, podcasts and all my playlists into the new version of iTunes from a back up of all of my previous hard drive before it crashed.  I have tried importing the data but iTunes drops all kinds of data (artist names, album names, track number, etc.) and have to now manually go through all of my iTunes data (18,000 tracks) to restore the data.  The data consists of a combination of purchased tracks (approx. 6,000) and my own personal CDs copied into iTunes.  I need help badly here as I'm lost on how to proceed.  Thanks.

    Hi Toboggan,
If you are looking to restore your iTunes data from a backup, you may find the following article useful (while it is focused on moving between computers, many of the steps should also apply to your situation):

  • Finder window doesn't see new music in iTunes

Now when I add new albums to iTunes, the Finder window simply does not see them; they do not appear in any of the lists under 'Music', 'iTunes' etc; they are invisible. Which is really annoying because it means I have no way of copying the music onto my tablet or my phone, as I  can only copy things to my other devices using Android File Transfer.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why the Finder is no longer able to see music added to iTunes?
    <Edited by Host>

Where they end up will depend on your settings under iTunes > Preferences > Advanced.
You can select any track in iTunes, option-click on it and then click Show in Finder to see where it is.

  • 2 yrs worth of music on my ipod nano 5th gen just vanished while I was trying to add four new tracks.

Most of the music I've put on my ipod nano 5th gen in the last 2 years just vanished while I was trying to add four new tracks. Stuff from before that seems to be still there (I add stuff manually, not sync, and the ipod wasn't full). It was a bit glitchy as soon as I plugged it in to update - threw up a few error messages, decided to verify my ipod a couple of times, After that, once or twice itunes seemed to lose the ipod completely, although as far as the laptop was concerned it was definitely still connected, so i went for the 'safe to remove hardware' option and reconnected...
I'm guessing somewhere in the midst of whatever was going on there, something got confused or corrupted, but I have no way to tell what... Ipod seems to think it is using less of its capacity now, but I don't know whether to believe it or not!
Can I get this stuff back? It's not just stuff I bought from itunes, either - things I put on from cds have gone too. I have all the music either backed up or on cds, but I'm not in the same country as my cds right now - also rebuilding all of my playlists and trying to remember what went where is going to be a pain! Is there a quicker way than just doing it all over again?

  • I have a new version of iTunes and am unable to copy my albums to my iPod...as I used to be able to easily do. How do I copy albums to my iPod?

I have a new version of iTunes on my computer & copied some music albums into iTunes...but I cannot transfer/copy these albums to my iPod Touch.
    How do I do that?
    P. Kraus

If the music that was removed from your iPod (which happened as a result of syncing it with a new computer... an iPod is designed to sync with only one library at a time.  Connecting it to a new/different iTunes library will erase what is currently on the iPod and replace it with what is in the new library) is no longer in a backup anywhere or another PC, then there is no way to tell what used to be on your iPod.
You'll need to either rerip the tracks you had from CDs back into iTunes or redownload them from iTunes via iCloud if possible.

Are you running any of Symantec's (Norton) or McAfee's Internet security products or anything similar, or an antivirus/antispyware application? There have been reports that some such utilities treat an upgrade to iTunes as a new application and can block the application from connecting. So you have to go in and reset the utility to allow iTunes. The same thing can happen if you upgrade the security product (this has particularly been a problem with recent McAfee upgrades).
Check the settings for your utility. If iTunes is still listed, remove and re-enable the exception for iTunes. Consult your utility's documentation for the appropriate procedure; you can find instructions for Norton on Symantec's web page for iTunes. You may also need to check the built-in Windows firewall as well.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't crate new playlists in iTunes or add content to 4th gen touch

    I have a 2009 MBP 17" 2.93 IC2Duo, running OSX10.9.5 and iTunes 12.0.1.26.
itunes will let me create a playlist name from the pulldown menu, but not from the '+' down at the bottom of the screen. The setting Icon doesn't work down there either.  When I drag a file, single track or album over to add to the playlist, the box is highlighted, but the icon just floats over the top of it and tracks with the cursor until I hit ESC and then click (then it slides back to the catalog list).
this is the same result if I try to drag music onto a 4th gen touch.  its been reformatted, home shared, purged and whatever the **** else you can do to it to clean it , but still no dice.
can i get the option to reload iTunes?  when i ask for update i get the ole the ver. is current window.
anyone got any thoughts or advice?
    Thanks!

For some reason, I can't switch the order of my tracks in iTunes DJ. If I click on a track and try to drag it to a new position, it won't work.
Select all teh tracks in iTunesDJ and press Delete.
    It will immediately re-populate.

How do I create a new album in itunes, you used to just hit the plus at the bottom of the list, I have loaded songs I want to put in an album

  • How do i rename tracks in itunes in a imac?

am new imac owner, previously had a PC and used right-click to rename tracks where itunes wasn't able to get track details when uploading CD's - how do i do this on the imac?  also how do i get album art work?  please don't judge me for ignorance Apple lovers......i have seen the light, i have converted, i just need a little help.....

You can use Get Info for a selected song - with a song selected at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Get Info - the keyboard shortcut for this will be available next to the Get Info selection.
iTunes includes an option to check for album artwork for songs that don't have it, or search the web and download your own which can be added via the Get Info function for a selected song. The last tab for the various selections is the artwork - it can be added there.

  • Manualy renaming tracks in itunes not working properly?

this being my 5th or 6th ipod since ive started collecting them several years ago, i shouldnt even have this question
i manually manage all of my songs/play lists through itunes to begin with
when i rename the artist, album or genre i have no problems,
but when i try and rename the NAME of the track is almost seems that itunes clicks me out of the window making it almost impossible for me to rename a song.
i just updated to itunes 7.4.3, which i thought would solve the problem, and also restored my ipod once, which also has the most upto date software on it.
i just had a 5generation 80 gig ipod about a month ago which i sold to buy the new thinner classic... i had NO problems ever with that one... but this new classic ipod made me install a new version of itunes which has done NOTHING BUT GIVE ME PROBLEMS.
    anyone have the same problem?

Yes! I've noticed the same thing in the most recent release or two of iTunes. Occasionally I like to change the track name from the main iTunes screen by using the <F2> key to go into "text edit" mode while the track is selected. This always worked fine before. But now, if I try to use the arrow keys or the delete key to move through or edit the selected text (track title), it seems to "save" the change (or not?) and immediately kick me out of "edit mode".
There's something funny going on. Sure wish it would go back to the way it was before. Editing track names from the main screen is no longer really viable.

  • I torrented new songs but itunes wont play them how do i make them work?

i torrented new music and itunes wont play them saying the files cannot be found the files are still on the computer and i can find them just find but itunes cant. how do i make itunes recognize, find and play my new music?

I don't think it's your iPod. I reckon it's something to do with the tracks themselves. I've been searching through similar posts and have tried the following suggestions (without any luck):
    - swap you iPod cable to another USB port and re-sync
    - whilst the iPod is connected, deauthorise your computer in iTunes and then authorise it
    - re-created my iTunes library (as your iPod can only sync with one library, it will wipe clean your iPod and re-sync it) - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313
    - have even restored my iPod
and still the 3 tracks will not play. However, I have subsequently downloaded another track (different album and artist) and that plays just fine. I have since contacted customer services about this and they have been very quick to respond, but unfortunately the re-download solution they proposed hasn't worked either so they have escalated the problem internally.
One thing I have tried (and I think it's legit??), is to burn the tracks to a CD. Remove the originals from your iTunes library to another folder. Re-import the tracks back into iTunes and re-sync. I've tried this and the tracks will now play on my iPod. I believe the above process strips off the DRM, so maybe the problem lies with the DRM encoding and your iPod believes you don't have permission to play the tracks when in fact you do. If you don't feel comfortable about doing this, I would contact customer services.
