Template and navigation style in Portal902

I'm trying to create a page template with a green vertical navigation bar down the side. But I want the portlets in the main region to have a white background, so I picked Kiwi as the style of the template. I have the "Use page style" checkbox unticked on my vertical navigation page, but it still displays with a white background. Why does the template style override my navigation page style? Is this an intended feature?
Thanks,
Carey

Great info.... does anyone (maybe from Oracle) know the official
bug number for this?
Does anyone know when 9.0.2.6 is due out???

Raizel: it's a problem with the forum and how stuff from
    there gets
posted to the newsgroup. Per a recent post by Murray, the
    Adobe team
are working on the problem. It's driving us all crazy.

  • Can Contribute edit a DW template and allow it to propagate?

I've created a fairly straightforward html/css site in DW CS3
based around a template and have uploaded both the site and
template to the client's web server.
There's a little set of static text on the template which
cross-populates all the html pages. If I edit the template in DW,
it updates all the pages that are based on that template. I'm
hoping that if I set up the client with Contribute, they can access
the template, edit it, and see the changes propagate to all the
html pages that are based on that particular template.
Is this possible? If not, is there a breathtakingly simple
approach I might be able to give the client to use?
    Many thanks.

Users of Contribute cannot update templates.
The 'breathtakingly simple approach' could be to use an SSI
(server side include) in your template.
    Example php: <?php include("inc.included-file.php"); ?>
You provide your user with an url to the include file, so he
can edit the file in Contribute.
NB: works also great with menu's (make an include file with
just an unordered list, style it with css, and provide your user
with the url to the menu).

  • I have an Editable Region in a template and want to remove it

When I have an Editable Region in a template and want to
remove it, and from all child-pages, what to do[mx 2004] ? The
below code if is in logout.php how is get included in a file ?
    I use:
    <!--#include file="../customeradmin/logout_links.php"
    -->
but isset($_SESSION["email"] does not working .... well ?
    [code]<?php
    if (isset($_SESSION["email"])) {
    ?>
    <link href="/css-styles.css" rel="stylesheet"
    type="text/css"><body class="text_normal">

    LOGGED IN(<a class="text_normal"
    href="/php_files/affout.php">Affiliate-LogOut</a>)

Click in the editable region in the Template file. Right
    click on the

  • Web-building my site. FIREFOX and NAVIGATOR is great but not SAFARI. Why?

    Hi,
I am building my web site http://www.philthesecurityguard.com/ everything works great on FIREFOX and NAVIGATOR but not SAFARI. Example: on my web site, I click on REAL LETTERS in SAFARI and HALF of orange squares appears outside of my letters. FIREFOX and NAVIGATOR have FULL orange squares on the outside of my letters. Another example: The vertical thin partitions on my web is red on FIREFOX and NAVIGATOR, but there is no red line on SAFARI. How come SAFARI is "short circuiting?" (I have Adobe GoLive web builder.) Configuring the server would allow the OP to use file names
    with no
extension [1], which imho would be a better approach [2].

  • Template and child pages do not match

Hi, there are several issues here and I'm pretty sure they're linked so I'll tell you them all. I was recently editing my website and I was changing the title of a page a created. I noticed that after I changed the name, when I clicked off it it just went back to the default title in the template. I then looked up how to sort and I think I changed a few bit of coding (I can't remember what though, sorry. It seemed to work. Then I decided to add another page which I listed in the navbar... when I got round to pressing save on the template, this happened....
I'm sorry to sound so vague but I can't really remember what I did. Anyway, it says this for nearly every page when you save the template. I've noticed some of the coding on the template and the child pages do not match. This is the code on the template.

Is there any way I can just create a new template to match the pages already created?
Sorry if I sound silly but this is my first post on these forums and I'm not really sure what you need to know.
    Gabriel

You can do everything, (and I mean absolutely EVERYTHING) in a regular HTML page that you can do in a DWT, and you don't have any of the parent/child/editable/non-editable/nested/nesting region problems that you will get with DWT's until you are very highly proficient at coding HTML and know exactly how to lay one out from the start so these things don't happen.
DWT's are good for putting together a "mockup" to show a client, and have a good idea of the layout you will eventually use. They are also good for a teaching tool (the only time I ever created one was part of a class). If you have a group of people working on a site together, they are helpful too, but if none of the above apply, just make a plain HTML page and "Save As" when you need to make additional pages from it.

  • Hooking up DITA structure and house style(s)

OK ... I've never yet managed to get a DITA project up and running to the point where I can work on it every day with a view to delivering something. But today I hope this has finally changed, so I'll start trying to post here and improve my grasp of the essentials. My thanks to all those, especially Rick Quatro, who have replied to earlier postings now sunk beneath the forum's event horizon never to be seen again <g>
First question, leaving myself wide open to correction:
I observe, on opening a DITA file in FM 9.0p237, that FrameMaker has thoughtfully provided a slew of styles related to elements and their position in the document structure. I am aware that really clever people can set up rules so that formatting is applied very cleanly, without using styles; but (certainly at this early stage) should I try updating the style-definitions based on what we're already used to?
"title.0", for instance: from the Element Context Format Rules, it looks as though that's equivalent to a chapter heading where my not-technically-speaking-structured documents would use the style ":h1".
Got to learn somehow! so thanks in advance for pointers along the path to enlightenment.
    Niels Grundtvig Nielsen

    Niels,
I have played only a little with DITA in FrameMaker, but my understanding is that your basic files are XML files, not FrameMaker files. So, yes, read/write rules are always present. They are needed to read the XML file into Frame and again to output the Frame file to XML. BUT read/write rules have to do with the structure, not the formatting. The formatting is in the styles embedded in the template AND in the application of formatting done by the EDD. When Frame reads the XML file, it applies the read/write rules to get certain things (such as tables) into Frame objects. It copies that structure into the template specified in the structure application. The EDD embedded in that template then applies the formatting. When you save the file to XML, only the structure is output, not the formatting. So, if you change a style in a DITA Frame document, it is lost when you save the file to XML. So, if you decide to change a style, then you should change it in the template and/or the EDD, not from within the Frame document itself. Of course, if you DO change the style in your Frame document, you can always import that style into the template; then it will be there the next time you open the XML file. If you want different types of documents to have different style sets, then you will have to create different templates, which of course, can have the same structure definitions, ie, DITA structure definitions.
I do not use the Show element context tab, but I took a look at it. It appears to be showing the formatting rules that will be applied to the element containing the insertion point. If you use it to change a formatting style, then the change is only in the Frame file, which will be lost when the file is saved as XML.
I suppose one could work entirely within a set of Frame files, saving your work as Frame files, not XML. Then your style changes will stay with the document, but that leads to maintenance issues, having different versions of one style in different documents. And I am not sure how that situation would play with the DITA structure application built into Frame.
    Hope this helps,
    Van

  • How do I begin with a template and then import a Word document?

I know I can open a word document in pages (I do this all the time). But I have a specific template and I want the word document I open to take up the designed elements of the template. How do I do that?

    George
You can import the styles from another document:
    +Menu > Format > Import Styles…+
but it will come down to what you need to retain from what.
You can not import layout or elements, so you will have to work out which holds most of what you want and import the styles from one and apply that or copy and paste into the document that contains most of the work.
Don't forget you can use the thumbnails to copy across whole pages/sections.
This is where Pages extremely weak and poorly thought through layout methods fall down. You will not be able to apply the master pages and master page layouts, to existing work, that you can in other DTP software.

  • Question on templates and updating linked files

OK I have a master template file. Let's say it is named
a.dwt. I used a.dwt to create another template (b.dwt) that had
more content on it than a.dwt. I would use b.dwt to create a group
of similar looking pages which still had all the elements of a.dwt
but also the additional content of b.dwt.
Now if I make a change to the a.dwt template, all pages
created from a.dwt change except b.dwt. So either I forgot to
create the b.dwt by going to file->new->page from
template->and then save it as a .dwt OR maybe it's not possible
to have a secondary template that gets updated when the first
template gets updated thus causing all pages from the secondary
    template to get updated?
Is there any way to go back and make b.dwt update
automatically whenever a.dwt gets updated? The scenario I have
right now is that I have to make certain site changes on both a.dwt
and b.dwt instead of just making the change on a.dwt and that
change flowing into b.dwt and its spawned pages.

    >I think what possibly happened is that I opened a.dwt and
    then made the
    > addition of the form element to a.dwt but then simply

    Yes, I think that's a possible scenario.
    > There will be about 15 pages that will look the same
    (have the
    > same form) except that at the top it will say "Send mail
    to Person X"
    > where
    > Person X will change.
I see. Are you using "mailto:" on each of those forms? This
    method of
sending form data is notioriously unreliable, you know? It
    depends on a)
your visitor's browser knowing what to do with such a link,
    and b) your
visitor's email client knowing what to do with such a link,
    and c) your
visitor not being put off by the security alert message that
    may pop up when
they click. Nevermind the fact that it fails completely in
    public locations
that do not have an email client installed.
Why not do this the right way with server scripting? In that
    case you could
have a single page with a single form, and let the visitor
    select a name as
the recipient from a list/menu field.

  • Combined logo and navigation bar

Is it considered to be poor layout to combine the company
logo and navigation bar in the same image? I have created this
image in Fireworks 8 as a jpeg to keep the gradients looking good
for both the logo and navbar, but am not sure if it makes the page
load any slower by having them in the same image? I do have
rollover buttons on the navbar so I do have to export it as
‘HTML and images’ w/slices. I do find it easier to
setup in Dreamweaver if they are together but could separate them
with some extra work. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

  • FrameMaker 10: Manage used and unused styles

http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/products/framemaker/pdf/FRAM EMAKER11_UPGRADE_GUIDE.PDF says FM 10 introduced the ability to "Manage used and unused styles: paragraph, character, table" but I am unable to find that information in the (exceedingly unhelpful) help system. Can anyone point me to a discussion of this featue? We are moving to new templates and would like to make the transition as painless as possible.

    Hi, Beverly:
Extendscript was introduced in FrameMaker 10. Perhaps someone's already created a script for this. I'm not sure if Extendscripts can be assigned to a keyboard shortcut. Perhaps soneone on the forum can point to an existing script, and also confirm whether a script can be assigned to a KBSC.
    [EDIT]
I forgot to mention: Search Google for terms like "framemaker 10 extendscript" without quotes for info about Extendscript. Even if you don't want to add scripting to your resume, you might get some useful ideas from this link:
    http://www.rickquatro.com/resources/BeginningFrameMakerScripting.pdf
    [/EDIT]
And, in some future lifetime, your feature request will be incorporated in FM, if you post a formal request here:

  • Exporting a FM template to PTC Styler, or ....

Hi all -- experienced FrameMaker user but XML/XSLT newbie here ...
We want to use PTC Styler to generate a style sheet that looks like our existing FrameMaker template. Ideally we could just export the template directly to Styler and then touch it up in Styler, but if that isn't possible, we'd be happy just being able to document the template from Frame. That is, save all of the paragraph and character tag values to a readable file. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Margaret

    Margaret,
I know about Style, but you can save a blank Frame template file in the MIF format, which is a text format that is a complete description of the Frame file. You can do this with any Frame file, but such a MIF file will contain all the content of the file, which makes it larger. A MIF file of the template file is human readable, that is, it is not difficult figuring out what the various values mean.
Note that a MIF file may look like an XML file (angle brackets) but it is not.
    Hope this helps,

  • Configure Numbered and Bulleted Styles in CSS

I have searched and read a lot of postings re:Numbered and Bulleted styles/lists in the CSS setup and still have no clue how this was changed in the most recent build of RoboHelp HTML or the correct way to apply and get to work.
In X5 of RoboHelp HTML, I had a CSS style sheet with 5 paragraph styles with bullets. I did not create a list - I simply bulleted the style. When I apply one of these styles to a paragraph it adds a bullet.
I upgraded to RoboHelp HTML X8.0.2.208 and my bulleted styles are a total mess. The styles are still in the CSS, but when applied there is no bullet - it adds a number (then I have to click the Bullet icon button on the toolbar to apply a bullet). I have tried to find release notes or some documentation explaining the change and can find none. I have reviewed Peter Grange's site information about lists and multilevel lists, but see no reason why I cannot just apply a bullet directly on a style without using the list or multilevel list.
I guess the issue may be my stupidity on the configuration and use of lists and multilevel lists. Is there any documentation from Adobe that outlines the change that occurred as of this most recent build? I am looking for an explanation of how a list corresponds to a style and how to get the style to work correctly. Ironically, the online help has been no help at all.
As always, thanks to any feedback or direction.
    Michael F Weart

OK - sorry have not posted my solution and it works for me...
This is what I did to create a single level bulleted style using bulleted list:
    (1) Create a MultiLevel List Style called BulletedList
I have only defined Level 1 of the MultiLevel List
For that Level 1 - I DID NOT specify a Paragraph Style
For that Level 1 - I selected List Style of DISC
For that Level 1 - I defined the Edit Style as <x>
Saved this MultiLevel List style with a name of BulletedList
    (2) Created a Paragraph Style called NBullet
Font is set to Arial 10pt
    Spacing/After is set to 6pt
From Indents line - clicked the AutoNumber icon button
This opens the List for Autonumbering dialog and I set the following:
Checked the box for Inherit Numbering Property from Multilevel List
Selected BulletedList from the List Class drop down
    Selected List Level as "1"
Clicked OK to apply and return to Paragraph Style Setup dialog
On Paragraph Style Setup dialog clicked the Format drop down button
    Selected Paragraph formatting
    Defined Left Indentation of .5in
Defined Special Indentation of Hanging .25in
    (3) Clicked OK to save the Paragraph style called NBullet
When I look at the drop down list of styles within a topic, the style name appears as "1 NBullet". Don't let the "1" fool you - when I apply that style the "disc" bullet is applied and NOT a number (it just displays a number in the style name for some reason that escapes me).
I now have my bulleted style back and it works fine.
NOTE:  I do not like to reformat anything, so I set up an NBullet (Spacing After set to 6pt), NBulletSpace (Spacing After set to 12pt) and NBulletLast (Spacing After set to 18pt).
I also set up "bullet continuation" paragraph styles so I can lead with a bulleted line of text and then follow with "additional information" paragraph that aligns to the text in the bulleted lead paragraph line - that paragraph style is NBulletContinue defined with NO autonumber setup and the Format/Paragraph set to Indent/Left .75in (which aligns the text to the text of the bulleted paragraph).
I set up the same paradigm of NBulletContinue, NBulletContinueSpace and NBulletContinueLast.
    =============
Aside from the Style name appearing in the Style list when working in a topic as "1 NBullet", "1 NBulletSpace" and "1 NBulletLast" the formatting works and looks great (and note - the style name when I go into CSS formatting does not have the leading "1").
Also note, if I use the Increase Indent option when working in a topic on the NBullet styled paragraph, the Level 2 bullet list format is applied. I HAVE NEVER and WILL NEVER use the Increase or Decrease Indent functionality (either in Word or RoboHTML).
All of my CSS styles match the naming convention used in my Word template - making it easier to push content back and forth between Word and RoboHTML.
    =============
My approach may be non-standard and may not be within the spirit of this functionality, but it works for me and I get the formatting I need.
One last note on the comment of the "sluggishness of the product" for x8 - I had the same problem and then I applied the two patches that were made available. The difference in the response time was VERY noticeable in a GOOD way. Search for and apply both fixes to RoboHTML x8 and you will see a pronounced difference. I also got my boss to approve ordering a new PC and now there is not sluggishness at all in the performance.
    Thanks to all --

  • Regarding Navigation Style in UWL

    Hi All,
I am using EP7 and SP09 . In this version, UWL iView property <b>Navigation style</b> has only two value as <b>None, Tab</b>. Here I need one more value as <b>icon</b>. When I change Navigation style as icon, it should show icon instead of Tab(For Tasks, Alerts, Notification etc.). How can I achive it?.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Art

    Hi Art,
This isn't a configurable option as far as I know, so your only alternative is to code your own version of UWL... or possibly adapt the current UWL code if you can find the DCs to import to NWDI.
    Cheers,
    Darren

    Hallo Kent,
what do you mean with SAP Presenter? Do you mean my powerpoint diagrams visualizing Web Dnypro component architectures? I just used simple powerpoint techniques without any predefined templates. When using Visio it should be possible to get some UML 2.0 template for the new component diagram type. With this template you should be able to draw Web Dynpro component diagrams.
