Template & File Deletion

In iWork '08, how do I completely delete items in "My Templates" and "Existing Files"?

As in every app in AppleLand, you quit the application, you navigate to the folder with the Finder and you delete the useless files.
Applications are made to edit or read documents, not to trash them.
I assume that it's a design choice introduced for safety.
I really don't know where is the folder "Existing Files" and I don't know what is a file which doesn't exist

  • Using dotx files opens the template file instead of instantiating a new docx file

    When I save Word documents as templates (dotx) in a SharePoint document library I noticed that they always open up as the template file (dotx) and not as a new Word document (docx). I expect that this happens because SharePoint simply opens up
    the document "as-is" - disregarding the logic which would normally create a docx document in offline mode. But strangely this works fine when opening the file in explorer view.
    Does anyone know if it is possible to use dotx files as intended in SharePoint? Was this behavior introduced when SharePoint 2007 was launched or was it perhaps included with a CU or SP?

    You can create a central hub containing content types (called the Content Type Hub).  Timer jobs run throughout the day to copy content types from the Hub to other site collections. Once the content types have been replicated to your site collection
    you would change your library settings to allow management of Content Types (Advanced in Library Settings).  Now you can select "Add from Existing content types" (Library settings) and add the content types to your library.  When you are
    done you can train your users to create new documents from your standard templates by selecting the content type by clicking the tiny triangle under the New Document button.
    Reference
    About Content Types:

    I did this on an Intranet I setup. When I created a new Project Site (not on Project Server), I added the content types to the document library (e.g. Charter, Plan, Status Reports, Project Document). I then took an additional step and I deleted the default
    "Document" content type. and moved "Project Document" to the  top of the list.  I then set the column "project name" (which I added to the project document content type) default value to the name of the project.  This
    way when people upload new docs to the library they are "Project Documents" and the Project Name column is populated with the name of the project by default.  - I hope this is helpful - Greg

  • Template file creates duplicates when opened

    Appleworks 6.2.9, running on intel iMac in Leopard.
    Created a template, saved it to the desktop. In the finder, double click the template and it makes a copy of the template file, as it opens. I type in the file and Save, now I have three files on my desktop -- the original template, the copy of the template, and the actual file.
    Has anyone seen this? Solved this?

    AppleWorks template files are intended to be opened from Starting Points (they contain information that AW uses to organize your template files). It doesn't hurt anything, but is just a matter of self-preservation. AppleWorks has indexed those template files so you can find them easily from within AppleWorks. If your Mac has multiple user accounts, it keeps each user's templates separate from the others, while allowing all users access to the common templates. When you try to open them from the Finder, AW immediately makes a copy of it to make it harder for you to make an inadvertent change to the original indexed version.
    If you want to be able to double-click a template, you can use my solution to delete the original template after a "copy" was created, then remove "(space)copy" from the name of the copy created. I found that this copy (now named as the original template) will not create copies.

  • Viewing iwork template files with Lion.

    How do I find and view the template files I have created in Pages (or Keynote)? I am using iWork 09 and Lion. When I create and save them in Pages it puts them in Application Support>Pages>Templates, but, according to Finder, this folder does not exist! I have tried viewing 'invisible' files but that didn't help.

    b) Why on earth did the Lion developers decide to hide access to files that I have created on my own computer?!! What possible reason is there for doing this?!
    My own guesses :
    They were tired to receive messages from users ranting because their machine behaved wrongly because they have deleted an important item without any knowledge about what they did.
    They forgot the case of custom templates because these files aren't stored in a logical area.
    Custom templates are documents whose logical location would be in the Documents folder

  • Which template file is used for DITA 1.2 publishing?

    Hi all,
    when I save a ditamap as composite document, which template file must I edit to change the layout?
    So far I have modified the topic templates (task.template.fm etc.) but I have not found the template relevant for the output yet.
    Update
    The ditafm_output.ini file contains the line CompositeDocTemplate_1.2=ditabase.template.fm but exchanging all ditabase.template.fm files in the FM directory did not do the job.
    This seems like is a very basic question so I wonder why it is not documented - or am I missing something? The only workaround I found was to manually import the EDD and formatting from my template into the FM document each time after publishing.
    Robert

    Either I'm confused about dates, or there's a harmonic convergence going on.  I am just now grappling with this problem myself and lo, here is a discussion that started yesterday!
    So far I have tried altering the Struct Apps file to specify which template to use in the DITA_1.2_ditabase applicaton, and I have tried editing the template file stored in ...\AdobeFrameMaker11\Structure\xml\DITA_1.2\app\technicalContent\template\ditabase.templ ate.fm...  Neither of these activities makes a difference.  So when Maker saves a DITA map as a composite document, does it use any of the applications in the App Definitions file?  Or is it using hard-coded magic for some unexplicable reason?  If the latter, that should be logged as a bug.
    I'm getting convinced that Maker doesn't use the Struct Apps file at all when saving as a composite doc because I have deleted all app definitions from the file except DITA_1.2_ditabase.  I still get the same results no matter how I define the template.  Then when I use Scott's trick to check which app created the document, it shows DITA_1.2_ditabase -- BUT, the Set Application list shows the full set of apps that I could choose from the default struct apps file.  (Yes, I have loaded my changed struct apps file -- and verified that it has only one app in it by restarting Maker and choosing EDIT struct apps file...  It has a single app as expected.)  So I don't believe I have reduced the set of defined struct apps at all, even though I have only one app in the loaded struct apps file!  Where is this information coming from, and why can't I control it?  In short, this area of the product is unpredictable for my feeble brain, and I can't afford to spend any more time on it.  I have deadlines to meet.
    Bottom line, I can't seem to do ANYTHING that will change Maker's behavior when saving a dita map as a composite document.  This is a real problem, BTW.  It means that my daily work flow always includes the stupid, manual steps of importing formats and EDD from another template after I create the file!  Can this possibly be acceptable behavior?  Note to Adobe...  This is the sort of thing that drives a customer to use a different product.

  • Customising thumbnails of template files

    Hello, I was wondering if there's a way to customise the thumbnail of an antmpl file?
    My department currently use Edge Animate to create e-Learning modules. To speed up the process we've made template files for each of the pages that are used within a course, e.g. chapters, quizzes, but as the templates are mostly white it takes more time to distinguish between them.
    The current thumbnails do have titles underneath them but a graphic would speed things up a little. I could add a graphic as the top layer of the template but then it would be a nuisance for users, having to delete it each time they created a new page.

    Holger, thanks for the screenshot confirming what you are seeing.
    Please click on the broken thumbnail and copy the file link from the browser location bar. Will be something like https://creative.adobe.com/file/40869742-fa53-4dcd-b29c-6962ede2b013.
    No one will be able to view the links (including me) but the the asset ID ("40869742-fa53-4dcd-b29c-6962ede2b013") will allow for further investigation. You can also email them to me at [email protected]
    As a workaround you should be able to download and re-upload the files and have the thumbnails show.

  • Template files display as code in the browser.

    I recently had to reinstall DW and delete my preferences from my machine.   I now have an odd issue.
    When working in a template file (.dwt) If I do a "preview in browser" (Firefox, IE, or Chrome) the browser shows me the template as a text file (code view) not rendering it.
    I have the newest browsers and DW CC 2014.2  - Windows 8.1
    Any ideas?   This worked before I removed and reinstalled DW (except in IE).  Now it does not work in any of the browsers.
    I have tried old sites and files... same for them all.
    Using html5 files.
    I know it is probably something simple... but I cannot seem to find it or and answer in the nets.
    Thanks for your help!

  • In an Excel template file, can I set the Folder Path in the SaveAs Dialog box?

    I have an Excel template file (xltm) and, with help from the forum, I now have a Workbook_BeforeSave subroutine to save the template as a macro enabled file (xlsm).  I’m so thankful for that help from Edward in the forum.
    I also want to set the default folder location to save the file. I really only need it when the template is saved as a new xlsm file, because if they open the xlsm file, it’s usually opened from the default folder path so any save would normally go back
    to where the file was opened.  However, with a template (even if the template is in the default folder) the Saved template reverts back to the user’s documents folder.
    Is there a good way to do this?
    I tried to modify the Workbook_BeforeSave code like this:
    Private Sub Workbook_BeforeSave(ByVal SaveAsUI As Boolean, Cancel As Boolean)
    Dim FolderDir As String
    Dim FileNameVal As String
    FolderDir = "Z:\save\data\place\"
    If SaveAsUI Then
    If Dir(WorkBookFolder, vbDirectory) <> "" Then
    Application.DefaultFilePath = WorkBookFolder
    End If
    FileNameVal = Application.GetSaveAsFilename(, "Excel Macro-Enabled Workbook (*.xlsm), *.xlsm")
    Cancel = True
    If FileNameVal = "False" Then 'User pressed cancel
    Exit Sub
    End If
    ThisWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:=FileNameVal & ".xlsm", FileFormat:=xlOpenXMLWorkbookMacroEnabled
    Application.EnableEvents = True
    End If
    End Sub
    But there are a lot of checks that would need to be done.
    I'm not sure how to only default the folder saved only when they open the template, but not change it when they just open an already saved Excel file created by the template (with all the active content, macros, etc.).
    Alan Edwards

    Hi Alan,
    store the path\filename in the 1st argument:
    FileNameVal = Application.GetSaveAsFilename("C:\*.xlsm", "Excel Macro-Enabled Workbook (*.xlsm), *.xlsm")

  • Pages '09 .template files cannot be opened in pages 5

    I have an older iMac and just bought a new Macbook. I have been having problems (seems like I'm not the only one) with the new Pages. Mostly, even on my iMac, I've had problems opening files. I always get an error that says, "'X file' can't be opened". Somehow I got to some of my older files, I think by converting them to .docx files. Now, I've purchased some resume templates that came in different formats. I can open the .docx files but the formatting gets screwed up. They came with pages .template files (that I assume were created in Pages '09) that I cannot open.
    Do I have any options besides trying to redo all of the formatting (defeating the purpose of buying templates) in Pages 5 which is a ****** application with ****** formatting tools?
    Can I get Pages '09 back
    Can Apple please stop trying to oversimplify things to the point of making them useless?
    Apple has really dropped the ball with this one. My frustration with pages alone is almost enough to make me wish I had purchased a different laptop. Microsoft Word '98 was a better word processor.
    Thanks,
    Jared
    P.S. the text editor in this forum is better than Pages 5

    We largely agree and have been recommending users stick with Pages '09 until a third party replaces Pages with something like Serif's Affinity Publisher next year.
    If you migrated your Mac over from the old one it should have transferred Pages '09.
    Can you reinstall from original installers? Just make sure to update iWork '09 to v4.3.
    Peter
    PS Go to the App Store and add your rating review to the mounting displeasure. Where I am the vast majority is giving it one or two stars. ie We hate it.

    I have an iMac purchased in May 2011.  OSX Lion 10.7.3.  I deleted backup file from the external hard drive which operates from Time Machine.
    Now, the trash can will not empty some of the files deleted from the backup harddrive.
    The trash contains-- File folder: "Core Services" which contains a locked file: "boot.efi".
    It will not delete.
    How do I get the trash can empty of these files?

    Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
    In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

  • File.delete() and File.deleteOnExit() doesn't work consistently..

    I am seeing some odd behavior with trying to delete files that were opened. Usually just doing new File("file.txt").delete() would work. However, in this case, I have created an input stream to the file, read it in, saved it to another location (copied it), and now I am trying to delete it.
    The odd thing is, in my simple application, the user can work with one file at a time, but I move "processed" files to a lower pane in a swing app. When they exit it, it then archives all the files in that lower pane. Usually every file but the last one opened deletes. However, I have seen odd behavior where by some files don't delete, sometimes all of them wont delete. I tried the deleteOnExit() call which to me should be done by the JVM after it has released all objects such that they don't matter and the JVM ignores any object refs and directly makes a call (through JNI perhaps) to the underlying OS to delete the file. This doesn't work either.
    I am at a loss as to why sometimes some files delete, and other times they don't. In my processing code, I always close the input stream and set its variable to null. So I am not sure how it is possible a reference could still be held to the object representing the file on disk.

  • XML publisher report with a template file missing

    I get the following error
    Active template file not found in the template definition <TEMPLATE_NAME> for date <EFFDT>. (235,2515)
    PSXP_RPTDEFNMANAGER.TemplateDefn.OnExecute Name:GetActiveTemplateFile PCPC:15872 Statement:346
    but in
    Reporting Tools > XML Publisher > Report Definition > Template tab
    I did have the setting Effective date, what cause the problem?

    Have a look at following post and run the sql in this post to see if your template definition is missing.
    http://peoplesoft.wikidot.com/xml-publisher-template-file-missing
    You could also run Application Engine PSXPCLEAN to clean orphan rows.
    Are you running the report online or through PeopleCode?
    In last case make sure the effdt is set correct in PeopleCode.
    Also have a look if your server time settings are correct.

  • File.delete() not working properly

    Hi Forum!!
    I am trying with the below code :
    File file = new file("path");
    try{
    if(file.exists())
    System.+gc+();
    file.delete();
    System.+out+.println("Control in delete trx file after deletion"+ file.exists());
    }catch(SecurityException se){
    String msg= "Delete trx file if 3gttz file created : IO Problems";
    Log.+error+(msg, se);
    }file.exists() returns false But I when I check file, it still exhists with content 0 bytes .
    Is there a way to remove the entire file from the directory rather than deleting only the
    contents ? Need not to tell I did my initial search to solve the problem.
    Thanks

  • Links to MS Office template files (dotx, potx, xltx, ...)

    Hi every one,
    I'm using Acrobat Pro 7 for an interactive Project Handbook. Meaning there're are steps to acomplish in order to set up and manag a project according to certain guide lines.
    With this handbook I provide an overwiev of the whole document from where
    each chapter and
    each document that has to be filled for project management
    can be reached. To do this I'm using the linking tool of Acrobat.
    I couldn't find any post in this forum that looks like my problem so I opened a new post.
    Problem description:
    As long as I link PDFs together every thing is fine. But as I'm providing Word and Excel template files, thing get messy.
    When linking from a PDF to, lets say a *.dotx (Word template), the link works. But in stead of creating a new "Untitled.doc" from the template, it opens the template to be modified.
    Use case:
    The file "MyTemplate.dotx" is in a sub-directory where the "Overview.pdf" is in. When double clicking in Windows explorer on "MyTemplate.dotx" an new "Untitled.docx" is created.
    When linking from "Overview.pdf" to "MyTemplate.dotx" and using that link, "MyTemplate.dotx" is opened the same way as if a right-click and choosing "Open" under Windows explorer was performed.
    Workaround:
    In order to have an "Untitled.docx" generated from the template I don't link to the template any more. Instead I use a batch file with the following command:
    [start "" "directory\directory\MyTemplate.dotx" exit].
    This command is written in a "Workaround.bat" file to whitch the Overview.pfd is linked to.
    With this solution, the template opens as a new "Untitled.docx" and it's fine.
    New Problem:
    Using a batch file is detected as a thread on certain PCs. When a link to a *.bat file is used on such a PC, a dialog box "Security warning" shows up saying "Un allowed link with file:/path/folder/..../Workaround.bat" leaving only 2 choices: clicking on Help or on OK and not being able to launch the batch.
    Final Question:
    How to tell Acrobat to create a new document from a template fil *.dotx" and not open it to edit the template?
    I want to thank you for your precious help, I'm really stuck at this point.
