Template for users without Adobe

I have a fairly complicated design challenge I'm trying to work out. I work as the inhouse designer for a small dental office and they present "before" and "after" photos to their patients with braces. I've been asked to create a fun background image to frame the photos that can then be saved as a template that the general office staff can use to drop the photos into themselves. The problem I'm facing is that the general office staff doesn't have any layout or photo editing software.
Has anyone faced a problem like this before, or have any ideas on how to solve it? They first presented this problem to me on Friday and I only had a few hours to put something together, so I just created a PDF of the background image for them to print. When the patient came in for his "after" photo (which was after I had left for the day), they resized the photo in Word, printed it along with his "before" photo and then cut and pasted the two photos onto the printed background by hand. I've wondered if I could save the background template as a Word document, but I don't think the staff could also use Word to crop and place the photos within the larger design. The only other idea that comes to mind is some kind of dummy-proof Web template, similar to what Mac provides for iPhoto albums, but I'm afraid such a project would not only be beyond my current skill set but also beyond the time and money the client would be willing to commit.

Do open fonts work in Word for users without the font on their machine?

Our team creates documents in Word and we would like to use an Open Font (Adobe Jenson Pro)--there is quite a bit of internal file-sharing and I don't want the font to switch to something ugly when it is reviewed in Word (because Word users do not have this font installed by default). I know that there is some cross-compatibility. We would like to apply this font to the template and don't want to introduce a font issue. anyone with experience know how if this works with the Open Font in word documents for users without it installed?

Nope. OTF's are made by many different companies. Adobe DOES have many of them yes but they don't rule the market on them.

Alternative for HLS HTML streaming trough JW player for users without Flash?

I will just summarize myself...
Adobe media server supports rtmp and HTTP(HLS and HDS)..
for rtmp streaming the swf running in a Flash player is the standard interface...that flash player may be an activeX control/plugin in your browser or may be a standalone player downloaded from adobe website...Chrome web browser however users a slightly different( PPAPI based) flash player(which is different from Adobe flash player) and is developed and maintained by google.
For HLS and HDS, you can either use special players(i.e swfs)(Flash based) developed Adobe by Adobe e.g Strobe meida player(Open Source Media Framework Blog | Adobe’s free and open source media playback system) or you can use players like jwplayer(Video Player Download | JW Player Online Video Player)... Incidentally jwplayer has added simultaneous support for playing rtmp streams too(which is reallly good), but i do not have much insight into workings of jwplayer...

Designing Java Apps for Users Without a JRE Installed Yet

Hi, sorry if this post is in the wrong place, but here goes:
I'm designing a Swing Java application for a client. My client intends to distribute/sell this application.
I'm concerned because, chances are that at least one of the people he distributes this application to will not have the JRE installed and will thus be unable to run the application.
Can anyone give me some suggestions on ways I can make my application more convenient for users without the JRE currently installed? Even some kind of error message that would direct the user to the JRE download site would be okay.

Use NSIS and package your application with JRE.
Add your jar files to lib/ext of the JRE package.
NSIS can create a short cut (desktop/start menu) to launch java class/jar file
I would not use webstart unless you are sure that clients will have access to the internet, the bandwidth is not an issue and installing the new JRE is allowed (permissions, SLA, etc.)

How to Lock particular template for user editing.

Hi Gurus,
we have some templates created on top of infoset querrys to display the output in specific format. I want to lock particular templates for user modification. That means when the user is trying to change the template layout and try to save with the same name it should not allow to do that. if the user wants in another name then it must allow the user to do that.
How can i achieve that.

Use a naming convention on templates with a particular prefix, ie ZCORP***. Then create an authorization object that specifies that templates with the prefix ZCORP cannot be changed or deleted. The user will be able to changed and save under a different name, but not the same one.

Automatic Adobe Update for users without admin privileges

Hi there,
I have a PC with Windows 7 Professional (32bits) and Adobe Reader (9.4.6)
I have selected "Automatically install updates" in Preferences --> Updater:
The problem is: when a normal user (without admin privileges) is using the system, it turns up an Adobe Box which asks the user to install the Update:
But when the user tries to update, it asks to insert the admin password.
How can I solve this? I would like Adobe Reader updates to be downloaded and automatically installed for users in my PC without admin privileges. Is this possible?

Anyone have any further insight into this? Is there a way to simply give the user admin creds but only for Adobe Reader that would permit users to do thier own updates?
I don't want to have to constantly update the MSI I am deploying with GP/LUP if possible.

Adding Adobe Content Viewer to Desktop for users without InDesign 5, 5.5, 6

We are starting to sell digital advertising and it would be nice if Adobe Content Viewer could be downloaded to the desktop for these advertisers who do not have tablet devices nor have InDesign 5, 5.5 and 6 on their machine. They are wanting to proof their ads in an interactive format on their desktop.

I also would like to see a Content Viewer for people without InDesign.
Better yet would be the ability to embed a viewer into a Folio, like a flash with a projector.

Crystal Report Templates for User-Defined Objects

Hello Experts,
I am running SAP B1 8.8 PL11. In the current patch SAP has default Crystal Reports that can be used as Layouts for Invoices, Credit Memo's so on. Is it possbile to have layouts for user defined objects ( say for instance i have a customized form under sales module, can i import a crystal template for this customized form?). In the report layout manager i don't see an option to import user-defind objects.

MDX Query much slower for users without administrativ rights

We have a SQL 2012 SP1 with CU9 installed and run a MDX query against a Cube. The Problem is that the query runs very slow for a user without administrativ persmission on the cube. With admin rights it takes 3 seconds and without 30 seconds. I can't find
any error in the query so maybe someone can pin point me in the right direction.The Role has all reading information it needs.

Can you check which build of SSAS you've got installed? It looks similar to this bug:

Apart from that, if you have used cell security in your role, it would be expected that query performance would be slower for users of that role.

Query for users without a primary device assigned (through automatic affinity or manually assigned)

I'm looking for either a way to query or a view of a collection that will show me a list of users who do not have a primary device affinity established. Vise versa might work as well- query for devices that don't have primary users assigned.
Any ideas?

Using SCCM's PowerShell cmdlets, you can run something like this:

Send quiz results for users without Internet access

We have a group of developers in India who do not have internet access. I have created an eLearning course in C4 with a quiz at the end. For most users, they take the course through our LMS and we can report results without a problem. However, we have a group of developers in India who do not have internet access. Is there a way to capture name and quiz results and send them via email? Alternatively, we can open up a port to access Connect, but I still need to report name and quiz results.

Are those users connected in a network? If yes, with the version of Captivate 5 (will be available shortly) it will be possible to have the results send and stored on a server.

Check InDesign data merge template for errors without creating document?

I've got a big InDesign template with hundreds of rows. Producing a full batch takes over an hour, and sometimes crashes. The deadline is fast approaching, and I'm waiting for the final minor amendments to the content spreadsheet, which could virtually land any minute.
I want to check for overset text errors on the current sheet without creating a merged document or PDF, so I can get on with fixing any likely major problems before the final sheet arrives - but I don't want to create a full merged doc, because that will take a very long time and will that doc's content will be obsolete, whereas the overall length of the text will change very little.
When you create a merged document, you have the option to turn "Generate overset text report" off. What I want to do, is ONLY generate the overset text report, without actually storing the merged document in memory.
Is this possible?
The closest I can see is click through the "Next" button in the Data Merge palette with Preview turned on, while watching the "No errors" preflight panel notification at the bottom of the screen. This is probably faster than creating a full merge, but still very slow.

That is what Indesign does when it does a data merge, it creates copies of the document and there's no way to change this. Have you tried exporting to PDF (In CS4 you can do this in one step from the original) and printing? I've never had anyone confirm it definitively but I'm pretty sure that the PDF created will be an 'optimized' one, meaning that when it sends it off to a compatible printer the images will be sent once and cached, with only the text that changes being sent separately.
Definitely worth comparing it to Publisher for speed anyway, Office programs can merge straight to the printer, but in effect they're doing the same thing. There are programs out there for doing far fancier stuff than data merge, probably the best is XM Pie, but unless you've got a printer that recognises their language they're a waste of time in this circumstance anyway.

You can create your own responsibility with required menu/functions to expose to users, they will have only PO inquiry menu.

Boot Camp Alternatives for Users Without a Superdrive?

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro, and want to install Windows. However, my optical drive quit on me months back (I since replaced it with an SSD), and I've tried installing with an external optical drive, and that didn't work, either. (For kicks, I made a USB boot drive as well, though I knew it wouldn't work.) Is there any way around this restriction? Two things come to mind:
Creating an MS-DOS formatted partition on my hard drive without the Boot Camp tool, and installing it in that fashion. (I'm not sure if this would change the issue with my MBP not recognizing the boot drive at all, however; holding down Option did not reveal the drive.) I could then install the Boot Camp tools.
Creating a partition through Boot Camp, then removing the hard drive, hooking it up to a PC, and installing Windows to the drive on that PC, then replacing the HDD.
If I go with #1 (assuming it is possible), are there any downsides to installing without Boot Camp and then installing the tools later? I am supposing that you won't be able to interact with the Boot Camp drive in the same fashion on the OS X partition (for example, having the selection tool in the menu bar for choosing to boot into the Windows partition), but do you miss out on anything drivers–wise doing it that way? I seriously doubt #2 is possible, and I'd like to avoid it just because of the drag of opening up my machine.
Exactly what does the Boot Camp helper do to the OS X boot sequence? I've found that once I started Boot Camp, I have to hold Option or go back to the tool and delete the partition, eslewise my computer keeps on trying to boot to installation media that is not there. (As far as it is concerned, that is.) I am guessing there is no way to make my firmware act as if the computer had never had an optical drive, either.
Edited to Add: I should note that both the DVD and the USB drive were created on a PC using the Windows 7 Download Tool.

virtualbox, wmware and other virtual machines will let you install windows and linux for that matter
and run it in a window or fullscreen
