Template pages shift slight to left when uploaded

Hello,
I'm fairly new to dreamweaver and i'm having difficulty trying to get my template page to open correctly. On my index page i created editable regions and saved the page as a template. I open new template choosing the one i just created. I add text to it and save it. When i upload all the files and  click on the tab to connect to my template page the template opens but it shifts sligtly to the left. What am i doing that might be causing this. Thanks, Owen

I understand now that once you select a region to be editable the rest of the areas are locked.
That's not correct.  A given template page can have many editable regions on it, as well as the non-editable regions.
I'm trying to get the spry menu at the top to be editable.
Honestly, you would never want to have your menu in an editable region, without making it a Library item or a server-side include first.  What is it you were hoping to accomplish by doing that?
if i go into the template i can't insert widget as it is locked.
A template file is always completely editable - there are no locked areas.  It's on the child pages where you might get this message.
The home page and the second link (private lessons) seem to be working,
Add this to your CSS in the Template page -
html, :root { overflow-y:scroll; }
Now all of your pages will work.

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
    Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
    Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
    Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
    Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
    After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Page shifting (or bouncing) left to right?

    Hello,
    I just completed a revision of my website:  http://www.sharibeaubien.com.
    There's something odd happening that I can't understand how to fix...
    When the site loads in Firefox and the viewer is paging through the main navigation (index, portfolio, bio, and galleries pages) the page jumps slightly either left or right when navigating to/from the "Galleries" page.
    I notice in Safari and Opera that the shift happens differently.  In these two browsers, the "Portfolio" page and the "Bio" page are consistent with one another while the "Galleries" page and "Index" page are consistent with one another.  Navigate between those two groups, however, and the jump happens.
    My husband checked the site on Internet Explorer at work and he says there is no shift anywhere.
    I've poured over the code and I just can't come up with a reason why this is ocurring.
    Any help you can provide would be most appreciated!
    Thank you,
    Shari

    To get the most out of DW, you need to be able to work with HTML and CSS code.  That's something you can learn on your own in a few hours and it will make things so much easier for you.
    Start here:  HTML & CSS Tutorials - http://w3schools.com/
    To make an external style sheet in DW:
         1) hit File > New > Basic page: CSS.
         2) Paste your CSS rules into the new page and SaveAs Basic.css.
         3) Then follow the instructions below to link HTML documents to your newly created style sheet.
         http://alt-web.com/DEMOS/DW-Link-Stylesheet.shtml
         4) Repeat Step 3 for each HTML page in your site (including portfolio pages).  If you make changes to your style sheet it will be reflected in all your HTML pages.

  • Template content shifting slightly from page to page?

    Hi folks,
    I am using Dreamweaver MX (yeah, I know) on OSX 10.6.8 and I am having problems with the navigation content in templates shifting slightly left and right between nearly identically created pages.
    See example at http://www.darrylvance.com/design_print.html and notice the shift when going from the sub-pages (which are in one position) back to the print, motion, other, etc. pages.
    The top tier pages were created using one template (for the navigation) and the Print sub-pages were created using a new template which is identical to the first one, except there is the navigation links added below.
    Another example is at http://www.darrylvance.com/art_painting.html where the same template was used for ALL the pages, but the Other and About pages have a similar horizontal shift as in the first example.
    I am assuming the different widths of the various pages content is causing these particular shifts, which are never noticable in DW but appear when in the browser.  I have rebuilt and rebuilt the offenders from identical correct pages and changed the widths of the content, but I'm still getting the same problem.
    I'd guess there is some kind of anomaly in the table settings, but for the life of me I can't find it.
    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks, John.  However, I can't figure out where to insert the code on the pages.  The tutorial you referenced is using a CSS style, but I am not (as far as I can tell), and frankly am not experienced enough with CSS to understand where it might go, if at all, on my pages.
    Do I edit the code on the templates and then let DW update the pages, or edit all the pages in the editable area of the code on each page.
    Here is the code from the template:
    <html>
    <head>

      else if (innerWidth!=document.MM_pgW || innerHeight!=document.MM_pgH) location.reload();

  • Pages shift to the left

    When printing to an HP 3550 in Windows 7 a single page document prints 9 separate pages each slight shifted to the left until the last document only has about a 1/2" of the document on the right side of the page.  This does not happen all of the time but most of the time.

    Hi,
    It seems there are navigation arrows placed to the far right (beyond page) on the pages/master in the Phone layout.
    Please check: https://grabb.worldsecuresystems.com/2013-09-20_0115.png
    Removing these should alight the pages correctly.
    Hope that helps.

  • Some pages shift to the left on iOS mobile platform

    This  persistent problem is driving me nuts. Some pages of my mobile sites shift to the left. All of the pages are similarly sized: 420 w x 570 h.As recommended in another thread, I inserted <meta name = "viewport" content = "width = XXX" initial-scale = 1.0> in the metadata to no avail. An example can be found here: http://rockandvine.businesscatalyst.com/index.html.

  • Safari won't let me click in text box, page shifts slightly instead

    I am somewhat new to Apple computers having used Windows PCs for the last 25 years.  However, since about Dec we have been an all-Apple household (1 MacBook Pro, 2 iPads, 1 iPhone, 1 iMac, 3 iPods).  As a result, I am still getting up to speed on certain behaviors in Mac apps as well as the OSX Snow Leopard and Lion operating systems.
    One thing I have not been able to figure out:  sometimes in Safari when I try to click in a text box (such as entering a search term in Google), the page will "wiggle" to the right (sort of like it is trying to go back but can't) and the cursor will not change to an I-beam.  Instead, it will persist as an arrow.  When I try to click, the page keeps trying to shift to the right.  However, if I wait a few seconds, the page will nudge itself back into position and I can then click in the text box as normal.  This seems to be a "feature" of Safari, but I can't figure out what it is trying to tell me.  I also have not checked to see if the same behavior occurs with Firefox or Google Chrome, so I don't know if this is a browser-specific behavior, or something common to all browsers and part of the Apple OSX operating system.
    I have a magic mouse, if that makes any difference, and I do realize that swiping left or right will act as a page fwd/bkwd command.  However, the issue above occurs when left-clicking...not when swiping.
    Thanks in advance for any advice!

    Hopefully it's a cache issue not your Magic Mouse.
    Quit Safari.
    Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
    Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari.
    This seems to be a "feature" of Safari
    No.. it's not.

  • How to make a menu at the top of the page move to the left when scrolling?

    I have a menu on the top of the page on a sidebar-sort. I was wondering how you could make it move to the left, not until the scrollbar reaches the end of the page, but when I say so. If i put the key position under the menu, it disappears. If i put it at the top of the page, my only choice is to use the Final motion, but that one moves until the scrollbar ends. So how can I do it?

    Hi Raphael,
    Please refer to this screen shot - http://prntscr.com/42weie
    You need to set the initial motion to zero and specify the key position to the scroll point, where you would like to begin the scrolling from.

  • Page shifting to left beacuse of text column length

    I have encounter a curious problem with a page shifting to the left, when displayed in IE because of the length of a column.  The page has a minimum height of 500px, if the column of red type is longer than 460px, whether the column is filled with type, some type or no type, the page will shift to the left when displayed. if 460px or less, the page will not shift.  When viewed in IOS6 on ipad, the page does not shift.  The shifting page locations is http://www.ldpinc.com/work.html . The location of the photo block at the top of the page is exactly the same on all pages, it is only this page that shifts.
    Thanks for the help.
    Dan

    I expect it's scrollbar related. See http://forums.adobe.com/message/5012449#5012449.

  • Noob: Adding text shifts my page over to the left

    Okay, I've got seven or so pages mocked up with header div, nav div and then a content div. the body tag has a max width of 960px and auto left & right (so centered on the page).
    On all the pages so far, they all line up sweet.
    On one, when I paste some text (roughly an A4 page worth) into the content div, the whole page shifts to the left by about 10 pixels. Header div, nav div and content div.
    The text is just plain, unstyled text with no CSS applied.
    It's doing my head in - that particular page 'jumps' to the left, whereas all the other pages are perfect.
    TIA,
    Simon.

    The page shift to the left is caused by the appearance of the vertical browser scroll bar on pages where the content is more than a screen deep (therefore requiring scrolling).
    Where the content is less than a screenful, the scrollbar disappears and the page shifts to the right.
    http://css-tricks.com/eliminate-jumps-in-horizontal-centering-by-forcing-a-scroll-bar/
    The usual fix is to add the following rule to your CSS stylesheet
    html {
    overflow-y: scroll;
    This forces a scrollbar to appear on every page (thereby eliminating the page shift) whether it is required by the amount of content or not.

  • Page shift due to vertical scroll bar issue

    I'm working through a vertical scroll bar issue in my design, using a ProjectSeven CSS page template. When testing the site in my browsers (FF/Safari/IE/Opera), and IF the scroll bar is not present, the entire page shifts to the left (the width of the scroll bar) when I click a link in the left column of my design. The page does not shift when the vertical scroll bar is present. Support at P7 suggested the following fix:
    html, body {
    height: 100.1%;
    margin: 0 0 1px;
    I've tried placing this markup in about ten different places but can't seem to find the right location in the code. Is it possible for someone in the forum to take a look at my page source and show me where/how to locate this fix?
    See my test site at:
    http://www.murcal.com/test_curvi_2.html
    Thanks .  .  .  .

    PZ,
    I'd like to place the fix where you've suggested, but that's the whole issue.
    I simply don't know where my CSS ends (duh). Is it possible that you show me exactly where?
    Hopefully this is the right section of my code:
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />

    I've tried placing it in about ten different places, but I'm wrong everytime.
    Obviously, I'm a beginner trying to learn. I just can't seem to place it correctly.

  • Scroll bar moved layout slightly to left

    If content on ALL of my site either did or didn't require a scroll bar, the transitions when clicking from page to page would all look smooth. Unfortunately I have some pages that are short (and so the browser displays no display bar) and other pages that are long, and when the scroll bar appears, my content gets moved slightly to the left.   I suppose I could just keep adding a bunch of new paragraphs at the bottom of my short pages until a scroll bar appears, but this problem is bugging me. I'd like to fix it the real way. To visualize this problem see attached pictures below.
    And here's some of the code that I think is relevant to my issue here.
    body {
        background-attachment: fixed;
        background-image: url(images2/palisades.jpg);
        background-repeat: no-repeat;
        background-color: #000000;
        background-position: center left;
        -webkit-background-size: cover;
        -moz-background-size: cover;
        -o-background-size: cover;
        background-size: cover;
        margin: 0;
        padding: 0;
    .header {
        width: 1000px;
        margin-left: auto;
        margin-right: auto;
        height: 50px;
    Below: the scroll bar pushes content slightly to the left.

    Actually, this one looks pretty simple.
    The first page shown is long enough to need a vertical scrollbar. When that scroll bar kicks on, the actual width of the page changes slightly, so the content (which appears to be centered) will shift to the left when the scroll bar appears.
    If it really bothers you (most visitors would never notice it) you can add a scroll bar to every page on your site (the pages that don't need it will pop up with a grayed out bar that doesn't allow scrolling) and your pages won't shift anymore if you add in overflow-y:scroll to the body tag css....
    body {
         overflow-y:scroll;

    I have set up a site in Dreamweaver and wonder why some of the pages shift slightly (and I don't like that) when you select them on the navigation bar and others do not? (When you click from Retailer to Developer, the page shifts; when you click from Developer to Research, it doesn't.)

    That's often just a matter of some longer pages have a scrollbar and others don't.

  • Template page won't display on the web.

    One of my web pages was saved as a template and won't display graphics when uploaded, just code.  It has the extension dwt.  I thought probably what I should do is make
    an html page copy and use that.  I don't know how that is done, or if that would be the best solution.  Any help would be appreciated.

    You should never publish your Template.dwt file to the web except to have as a backup in case your Template ever becomes corrupted or lost.
    Templates are a proprietary DW file type used to create the rest of your site pages.  Go to File > New Page from Template.  Select your .dwt file and hit create.   The resulting new page is a child page based on that main template.  Save as index.html (your home page).  Repeat with other site pages.
    Add editable content to each of your child pages.  Everything outside Editable Regions in the template will be populated to all child pages -- very handy for site wide menus, headers, footers and sidebars.
    When you edit a template, you must re-publish all child pages based on that template to your server.
    For more details on the use of DW Templates, use F1 Help in DW.
