Template pages won't update

Hi,
I am making a website for somebody and for now I am looking
at it in a folder on my site. I am having trouble with the template
pages not updating when I make changes to the template. Would it be
because I have a folder named Template in my site and another one
within the folder where the other site is? If so, how can I fix it?
Thank you,
Charley

Here are six ways to make changes not propagate from Template
to child -
1. Rename the Templates folder
2. Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in
the site other
than root level
3. Move a template out of the Templates folder.
4. Make changes to an editable region of the template (which
will not
propagate)
5. Assume that template changes can be uploaded to the server
without also
uploading the changed local files
6. Corrupt the site cache so that the link between template
and child page
is broken
The latter problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced
> Recreate Site
Cache, and the five others can be fixed by just not doing
them. Have you
done any of those?

  • Pages won't update to 5.1, refuses to open documents

    First of all, pardon me while I scream. AAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!
    iWork! I've stood by you all these years and this is what you do to me!!!!!
    OK. So - Keynote and Numbers recently updated in late January, but not Pages. Today (18 February), I tried to open a Pages file and it won't open. The error message says that I need a newer version of Pages to open this document. I check and my version of Pages is 5.0. The app store says the latest version is 5.1 but it also tells me I have no updates available and I can't update or reinstall it because the button in the App Store just says "installed" for Pages.
    Can anyone help please??
    First off, why does Pages refuse to update? And, how can a simple upgrade from 5.0 to 5.1 immediately and automatically render my old documents UNOPENABLE? This is so ridiculous. I want to cry/scream because I'm wasting hours and hours now trying to open this one document.
    Please help? Thank you.

    That is not a "button" that is the icon and it is for the older version of Pages.
    You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
    Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
    Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
    You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
    Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
    Pages 5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
    Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
    Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
    Once opened and saved in Pages 5.1 files can not be opened in Pages 5.
    Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
    All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
    Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
    Apple has removed over 95 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

    Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

  • Template page won't display on the web.

    One of my web pages was saved as a template and won't display graphics when uploaded, just code.  It has the extension dwt.  I thought probably what I should do is make
    an html page copy and use that.  I don't know how that is done, or if that would be the best solution.  Any help would be appreciated.

    You should never publish your Template.dwt file to the web except to have as a backup in case your Template ever becomes corrupted or lost.
    Templates are a proprietary DW file type used to create the rest of your site pages.  Go to File > New Page from Template.  Select your .dwt file and hit create.   The resulting new page is a child page based on that main template.  Save as index.html (your home page).  Repeat with other site pages.
    Add editable content to each of your child pages.  Everything outside Editable Regions in the template will be populated to all child pages -- very handy for site wide menus, headers, footers and sidebars.
    When you edit a template, you must re-publish all child pages based on that template to your server.
    For more details on the use of DW Templates, use F1 Help in DW.

  • Child pages won't update

    I have a template "main.dwt.php" that has a spry menu, I updated a link on the spry menu to another page in the site, but the child page does not update.
    I'm having weird results with templates in DWCS3, don't know if it's worth it for a 20 page site. Sometimes it updates other pages and sometimes not.
    Now on the other hand, I updated some text on the main template on a side bar and after I saved the template DW did ask me if I wanted to update the other pages.
    Any recomendations for this problem??
    Have a good holiday weekend!
    Kevin

    Is the Spry menu in an editable region?  A 20-page site is ideal for Templates.....
    Here are seven common mistakes that will result in changes not propagating from Template to child -
    1.  Rename the Templates folder
    2.  Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in the site other than root level
    3.  Move a template out of the Templates folder.
    4.  Make changes to an editable region of the template (which will not propagate)
    5.  Assume that template changes can be uploaded to the server without also uploading the changed local files
    6.  Corrupt the site cache so that the link between template and child page is broken
    7,  Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the template, adding page specific content, and resaving the template with an *.html extension rather that its *.dwt extension. (you can tell if this is the case by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything like <!-- TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done)
    The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced > Recreate Site Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing them.  Have you done any of those?

  • First page won't update

    I just updates my site, which contains a fait amount of photo pages, a blog, a welcome page and an «about me» page. The update works fine, but the welcome page will not change from what it was. The «topics» lines will not change, so there is a lot missing. All the other pages are fine though.
    I rebuild a page that looked exactly the same as the page I wanted to put up as the welcome page, then erased the old one... Still, it publishes the old one first (which was erased from iWeb...) and then, if I click, lets say, on the blog, and then, on the welcome page, it will put my new one...
    Is there a way that I don't know to make my new opening page the official/working page that shows up when a person loads on my site?
    if you want to check it out: web.mac.com/fremilie
    It's all in french though.
    Thanks for the help!

    Hello Em
    It sounds like a caching issue, the first thing to do is clear your browser cache, in Safari, go to Safari>Empty Cache..
    You could also try putting a ? at the end of the url in the address bar, this forces your browser to call the most recent version of the page that it can find.
    Thirdly, the .mac servers sometimes seem to take a little while to reflect your changes, again I think that this is a caching issue, at their end not yours. I normally find that by the next day all is well.
    It looks OK to me, but then I dont know what it is supposed to look like!!

  • SCRIPT calls inside a template - these won't update

    OK, no more \\ talk... Please!  you say...  and I agree!
    Well I may have committed another faux pas, this time in a .dwt.  The following code is found inside my "master template" for this bike shop.
    <html>
    <head>
      <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
      <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="doctitle" -->
      <title>Exeter Cycles, Exeter New Hampshire - Specializing in NH Seacoast Cycling!</title>
      <!-- TemplateEndEditable -->
      <META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="new hampshire, exeter, cycles, cycling, bicycle, shop, new, hampshire, seacoast, mountain, road, bmx, kids, kid's, bike, bikes, riding, rides, tires, chains, cogs, wheels, handlebars, tubes, brakes, pedals, pedalling">
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE = "JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="../mouse_over1.js"></SCRIPT>
    <!-- removed embedded styles completely 5/12/11 - HS -->
    <!-- removed table based constructs top six pgs HS 4/28/11-->
    <!-- Used Absolute positioning for Right Nav sections HS 4/3/11 -->
    <!-- Created EC page master template for ease of management HS 4/27/11-->
    <link href="../css/site_wide.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
    </head>
    <body>
    Note the 8th text line where I use src="../mouse_over1.js" and in the .js we change colors on some click buttons as the person rolls over.  This is inherited code and I take no credit for having created it - but now I'm dealing with it and trying to learn a little about what this does and how it does it.  However, if I look in, say index.html (which is built and updated on this template) this is what I get after an Update as well as after a File >Save All:
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE = "JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="mouse_over1.js"></SCRIPT>
    No ../mouse_over1.js and so the mouse_over feature fails when index.html is first called to a browser.  The result is the infamous "red-X" syndrome - the graphic is not being found.  I think it's because the template has ../ but somehow is not applying it to index.html.  Strangely, when updated, all other pages (except this one) get template changes applied and any of the other buttons are clicked the links work and the color changes also work.  It's only when the page (index.html) is first called.
    Now as an experiment, I commened out the above line in the .dwt to see what the results were.  And in index.html this is what I see in idex.html:
    <!--<SCRIPT LANGUAGE = "JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="../mouse_over1.js"></SCRIPT>-->
    Note that in the commented section here, the template imposed ../.  I then go back, un-comment the template at that line and I get:
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE = "JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="mouse_over1.js"></SCRIPT>
    No dot-dot-slash again!  So, what do I have?  Maybe I don't know that a <SCRIPT> item should not be included in a template and maybe this should not be included in a template.  Or maybe it positioned incorrectly in the template.
    What do you good folks think?
    H

    OK, I am still having trouble with this.  I have tried everything - honestly have - to get the proper code set up in the Template so that it propagates correctly out to my pages.  I've put in the "../" in the Template - updated.  I've left off the "../" in front of each "src=".  That completely fails.  I've moved everything to the root of my C drive (I was desperate!).  The graphic elements (clickable button box links) appear when index.html is called from "Preview in Browser" but as soon as you rollover any other button, that button goes to "red-X" meaning that the reference is bad.  Clicking on the "red-X" button brings you to the proper page so the links work.  But when "About Us" for example is called or clicked, they all work ("rollover effect") fine.
    I must have some sort of structural defect or there must be a setting inside DW that I don't know about that makes this happen.  I have a tendency to think it's a basic structural fault:
    File/Folder
    Location in Tree
    index.html
    C:\My Documents\EC\TodayWork\
    Templates (folder)
    C:\My Documents\EC\TodayWork\
    EC_Master_Template
    C:\My Documents\EC\TodayWork\Templates
    about_us.html
    C:\My Documents\EC\TodayWork\AboutUs\
    services.html
    C:\My Documents\EC\TodayWork\Service\
    15 jpgs for rollovers (varying colors for effects)
    C:\My Documents\EC\TodayWork\graphics\
    mouseover1.js
    C:\My Documents\EC\TodayWork\
    more files with the same basic structure
    Here is a chunk of code from my Template:
    <a HREF="../index.html" onMouseOver="imgOn('holder')" onMouseOut="imgOff('holder')">
    <img name="holder" src="../graphics/home.jpg" alt="" width="100" height="90" border="0">
    <br />
    </a>
    <a HREF="../services/services.html" onMouseOver="imgOn('img3')" onMouseOut="imgOff('img3')">
    <img name="img3" src="../graphics/work_gray.jpg" alt="Services" width="100" height="90" border="0"></a>
    <br />
    Here is the resultant code in index.html:
    <a HREF="index.html" onMouseOver="imgOn('holder')" onMouseOut="imgOff('holder')">
    <img name="holder" src="graphics/home.jpg" alt="" width="100" height="90" border="0">
    <br />
    </a>
    <a HREF="services/services.html" onMouseOver="imgOn('img3')" onMouseOut="imgOff('img3')">
    <img name="img3" src="graphics/work_gray.jpg" alt="Services" width="100" height="90" border="0"></a>
    <br />
    And here a chunk from services.html:
    <a HREF="../index.html" onMouseOver="imgOn('holder')" onMouseOut="imgOff('holder')">
    <img name="holder" src="../graphics/home.jpg" alt="" width="100" height="90" border="0">
    <br />
    </a>
    <a HREF="services.html" onMouseOver="imgOn('img3')" onMouseOut="imgOff('img3')">
    <img name="img3" src="../graphics/work_gray.jpg" alt="Services" width="100" height="90" border="0"></a>
    <br />
    I've looked over the javascript.  I've not touched it in any way from the original because I don't know much about java so I've left it intact.
    if (document.images) {       //if image object is available
    img1on = new Image();  // MouseOver Images
    img1on.src = "../graphics/product_color.jpg";
    img2on = new Image();
    img2on.src = "../graphics/racing_color.jpg";
    img3on = new Image();
    img3on.src = "../graphics/work_color.jpg";
    Again, this has similarities to the case I brought up a couple of weeks ago.  I apparently didn't learn enough from that experience.  Do the inidiv pages have to come out of their folders and be on a peer level with index.html?   I don't understand where I could be wrong with this structure.  DW is doing what it's designed to do.  I'm setting up "Document Root" in the initialization screen.  I just ran into a buzzsaw on this one.
    What should I be looking for to get this done.  Everything else on the site is working fine "locally".
    I don't expect someone else to build this.  If I don't do this on my own, I don't learn.  But here all my self study has left me without a clue.

  • Template page doesn't update the css file location

    I've been using Dreamweaver for years; been using templates for years but can't figure why this now happening.
    I create a new page from a template (that I've used for years) and everything on the page (including image and other links) is fine and updates properly; Links to css files do NOT update.
    The relevant template code is as follows:
    @import url(../p7pm/p7pmh13.css);
    @import url(../tourstyles/tour2fluid.css);
    The page code is as follows:
    @import url(file:///D|/Wine Tour/p7pm/p7pmh13.css);
    @import url(file:///D|/Wine Tour/tourstyles/tour2fluid.css);
    I've switched the links relative from document to site root and back again with no joy.
    Sure would appreciate a pointer on how to fix this.  Thanks.

    It looks as though the site definition is wrong. Have you fallen foul of the problem with the latest versions of Windows not registering the site root folder correctly? See http://forums.adobe.com/thread/478327.

  • Template changes won't update the dependent files

    I am checking out a template file with its dependent files from my FTP server using Dreamweaver. I am making some changes, and saving it. It is supposed to prompt me to update the dependent files. But it doesn't. So none of the changes are applied to any of the files using the template. I also tried to update the pages manually by going to Modify>Templates>Update Pages.. But DW is looking into a different path to find the templates, rather than looking into the folder where the server is set-up. What is the best way to make this work?

    Is your site properly defined in Site > Manage Sites?
    Do you have the Template.dwt file in a Templates folder in your local site?
    Are you sure this is the right template for this project?
    Do you have all the child pages in your local site folder?
    It's important to understand that Templates do nothing on the web server.  They are proprietary to DW and only work on your local site files.
    Nancy O.

  • Iweb/ pages won't update to add new pics+info.

    Does anyone know why iweb will only update pages when it feels like it?
    I have tried clearing the cache, updating one page at a time, deleting pages...
    but it does't seem to work!

    Remember that this would be the case regardless of what tool you used. iWeb is uploading the information just like an FTP program would upload the information to any other host. Caching is what happens when you view content and it happens to any sites. I think iWeb's ease and quickness is a testament to how many people might not even understand the processes behind creating a web site, but are nonetheless able to turn out some impressive stuff!
    One thing I did to make sure I'm always getting the latest stuff is that I didn't visit my site right before publishing AND I didn't visit it until I'm sure there are no more major changes to make. This way, what gets cached will be the most recent info.
    It's not really a problem for me anymore as it appears that I could make a change now, refresh my browser, and it's there. But for you, wouldn't be a bad idea to pick that up as a habit.

  • Url is correct but page won't update

    i'm having an infrequently re-occuring problem where I get to a webpage and - at some point pulldown to a new bookmark or hit the back button or do something similar and the webpage that Safari is on stays static but the url obviously updates.
    I can run a Reload page and I can keep pulling down to other bookmarks or continue clicking back or forward and it stays on the same page. I feel like I am usually around the Wordpress help website when this happens but that could be totally way off.
    Is there something that I can delete to try and refresh Safari is someway? Is there some other isssue that may be involved here?
    Thanks.

    Alright,
    Here it is, in sequence, starting with deleting the cookies (please note that by clicking on Details, in the window as shown below, you'll get to selectively delete some cookies, but not all of them), then clearing history and cache:
    More to follow in my next post, since obviously, you can't upload more than 5 pictures in any given post...

  • Discover page won't update?

    I use the discover page all the time to find new music, and it usually updates with new recommendations every day or so. But lately it hasn't updated in a while, at least a week. I was wondering what the issue is and if anyone else has been experiencing the same problem.

    Ok, they must've just updated it because I checked when I posted this question and it was still the same, but now it is updated. Hopefully they fixed the issue because it used to update all the time for me.

  • Pages won't update from 4.3 to 5.2

    When I open pages and check the version I see 4.3, when I go to the App Store on my Mac it says the program is installed and up to date even though the current version is 5.2.  How do I force an update? Should I uninstall all together? What is the best way to uninstall? it's been a long time since I had to on a Mac.
    Thanks,
    Merlin

    When you installed Mavericks, the older versions were rounded up and placed in a folder in the Applications folder titled iWork '09. The new iWork apps are scatter4ed alphabetically in the Applications folder with your other apps. If you are opening these apps from the Dock, you still have shortcuts to the old apps there. You will need to find the new apps in the Apps folder and drag and drop each of them to the Dock to get new short cuts to the new apps.

  • FTP Pages won't update

    Getting to the angry side of frustrated, what with all the crazy 'helpful' options they've thrown in there.
    I created a page and uploaded it via ftp to my host company (not Adobe), this upload worked fine.  I then made alterations to the page and uploaded, using ALL PAGES, only CHANGED pages, no matter what the changes are NOT making it through.
    They appear in the 'edit in browser' somehow, but not on my site.
    Yes, I HAVE cleared the cache, and in fact grabbed my ipod and opened it for the first time ever on that machine, and it finds the first version but none of the changes.  It blows my mind because this works gracefully and flawlessly with the bargain tool Sitespinner, and yet Muse happily chugs along and tells me it worked, but no.
    What else is there to try?

    Thanks JT,
    I use www. when uploading. Haven't tried http:// though. It's hard to tell whether that would matter because it's pretty inconsistent. But worth trying.
    Agreed, it can't be caches. I got the same result as you when visiting the site from a new device.
    As far as I understand routers themselves don't hold copies of webpages, the device does. Routers do hold a route table (type of cache), but i don't think we could visit the site at all if these were corrupt? Don't quote me on that. I fixed a different issue with pages not loading by resetting my router last week. (Switch it off for at least 2 minutes). Might be worth a try.
    I'm on a mac, so I don't know how to refresh using f5! haha
    I'm wondering whether it has something to do with this thread: Muse 2014 Crashes During FTP Upload. I've been having this issue as well. In which case we might see and improvement in the upload to live in the couple of days?

    OK - I tried renaming the .swf, but then the index.html that refers to the new named .swf isn't getting refreshed - the browser loads the old index.html with the old .swf reference.
